I am running Windows XP. The machine used to be on a Domain, but I took it off. Now, when I reboot the machine, the Server service is gone, and I have to get it back buy Uninstalling then Reinstalling Microsoft File and Printer Sharing in the internet connections dialog. Is there some security policy or something that prevent the Server service from running at boot?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with a client/server app: It is a web application that resides in C:inetpubwwwroot (aspx pages) of the server. The client is a Windows app that is installed into Program Files on the clients and when running receives commands from a webservice on the server. When I install it on a PC on our own test environment it communicates with the server perfectly, no matter how many times I re-boot the client, the connection never goes down. When I give the client to someone on a separate domain, they install it and everything is OK. However, once they reboot the PC (Windows XP) the connection to the server fails. The can still ping the server from the PC, they can even see the web service is up and running by typing into a browser but the connection now fails. If I get them to uninstall the client all and re-install, it is fine again. As I say, it is a reboot that breaks it (communication to the web service that is.) My problem is that I am completley blind to the setup on the client-side of those I give it to (I only email it to them, I have only been in the site once). The PC is obviously on a domain (with static ip addresses I assume) but other than that i know nothing. I think it is something similar to the way when you map a drive in Windows and then when you reboot it has lost the connection and you have to re-map it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has experienced a crash with her Toshiba Satellite while watching a vid on the net.It froze completely so she did a battery pull and re-booted the system.After booting up Windows 7 after the password screen the laptop crashed completely.
The same problem occurred once again so she loaded Windows in safe mode with networking. The computer seemed to function normally so she rebooted into normal mode.Since then everything appears to be functioning except the Wifi (that was used in conjunction with an ADSL net connection).The LED where the Wifi switch is no longer lights up and no Wifi connection can be made.I suspect that as a result of the initial crash the connection settings may have been reset but perhaps the Wifi in the laptop itself has just died and needs to be repaired.
I know it could just be corrupted drivers or something - I updated the drivers for something called "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter" using the auto update feature in Windows Device Manager but it didn't solve the problem.
I keep seeing this pop-up on the firewall (from both source & destination hosts) What app/service uses 47727 on Windows 7?
Edit: It shows up as UDP occasionally, too.
System was running fine untill about two days ago. File and print sharing stop working. went to services and tried to restart "Computer Browser". It would not start due to a dependancy. Tried to start "Server Services" Got the following error. "Can not start Server Service on local computer, Error 2:The system cannot find the filed specified". The files srvsvc.dll 95KB 4/14/2008 The file srv.sys 327KB 4/14/2008.If I delete either of these files they are just created again. If I replace them with the new versions they are converted back to these files.I am running XP Pro SP3.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a virus. I think I got rid of it. Avast scans and boot time scans and Super Anti Spyware and TDSS killer report all clear. However, the network shield of Avast and the Internet don't work. Points to note: 1. In services, the DHCP and DNS cannot be started. I get the error 1075: service has been marked for deletion or one of it's dependancies are missing. (close to that)
I've checked the dependancies of both, and reinstated the ADF module in device manager after selecting the 'View Hidden' option.
My modem with single network connectivity (Type I) works fine. I tried to replace with Type II modem (with wifi- and 4 or more ports) for connectivity. I could not establish connection with the server of the service provider. I tried to replace with a different type of typeII modem. Still the same. What could be the reason?I connected the same in a different workplace to a different PC.

I switched to Win. 7, because XP getting slow in general. I've using the brand new Netgear wireless adaptor on Win.7 while the older wireless adaptor is still on XP, but I never use XP after switch to Win.7.
On XP, Wireless connection had no issue at all, however on Win.7, the wireless connection often saying 'not service available' at the right bottom corner.
On XP, Netgear was 150 and Win 7 is 300.
Just wonder whether I should take off the wireless-adaptor from the XP if that would work to boost the wireless connection on Win.7?
How can I tell if the ATT Data Service on my iPad is going through an ATT Carrier Grade NAT router or proxy server? Why I can't tell.
1. iPad does not have an interface that shows the assigned address on the Data Connecton or access to any terminal commands.
2. The reported ATT (Cingular) address is 166.147.103.208 if you use a What-Is-My-IP type of service. On a Verizon (not ATT) iPad I can ping all the way back to the iPad and turning the iPad off stopped the Ping Response . . . but there is no answer when I ping the ATT iPad 166.147.103.208 and Trace Route to the iPad stops answering at the border of the ATT network.
3. If I make a page request on an IIS web server from the ATT iPad, the web server logs 166.147.103.208 (see above) as the source address and logs the iPad as the source device, but 166.147.103.208 could still be an ATT proxy, not the iPad because some NAT routers change the source IP address to themselves.
We want to use an ATT Hotspot as the the permanent always-on home internet service where there is no other option (except satellite). We need dynamic DNS at the home, and that requires a routable public address on the ATT-hotspot. We are guessing the iPad and HotSpot would be using the same ATT network.So how can I tell if the iPad has an ATT address that can be reached from the internet (no proxy's or carrier grade NAT routers)

My HP laptop was working perfectly using wireless Internet but after an update of the SERVICE PACK 1 it now isn't working. It connects to the Internet but it says 'LIMITED ACCESS'. It's clearly something to do with that update as the Internet works perfectly on all over devices in the house

So, the bottom line is that I can access (and modify) the files across the network if I'm doing so manually, but my Windows service fails when trying to do the same thing. If I run the program through Visual Studio, it works. If I run that same exact code as a Windows service, it fails.

I just upgraded my ACS v4.0 to the latest available version v4.2(1) build 15 patch 2 and I've got some trouble with the CSLog service. I performed a successive upgrade first to v4.2 then to v4.2.1 and finally applied the two patches. Everything is working fine, I'm using both radius and tacacs services and they doing great like they were in v4.0. The only problem I have is with Cslog service which doesn't start. To be accurate, it starts but stops just after. I've uploaded some logs from cslog.log in cslog/logs directory.

EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication
Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.
However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?
When I create a service object or group and add the object to a new rule it never works.I mean the traffic match not the rule. I see not hits.I placed the rule on top of my access list to check if I do somethink wrong but it is not working. When I place only a service for example tcp/23 it is working.

We cannot access the ports from the ACE directly. We can still however acces the VIP on the TCP port (L4 VIP class-map). So we can still telnet to the VIP on the port from thr Client side of the network.This is on ACE 20 Modules deployed in Routed mode. The version of software is A2(3.3).
Tried removing multi-match and loadbalance policies as well as class-map and re-applying then re-appyling the service policy to interface. Same behavior,This is a problem at another level as some services are being monitored by GSS via TCP keep-Alive and this obviuosly causes a problem as the service then never goes off-line.

I'm asking because we're purchasing a new server soon and I want to know if the included backup is going to be good enough. Will be backing up server state as well as data to tape and possibly an off site server (server 2003) if I get my way.
I know the best thing one should do is install an ISA server and an Active Directory Domain Controller on separate servers. But for some reason, I want to configure my Windows Server 2003 as an ISA server as well as an Active Directory Domain Controller. What can happen to my server making it run improperly. For example, my ISA server will function mainly as a Firewall, I wonder if all the rules I create in ISA server determine what I mean it should work or I have to consider any affection from Active Directory DC to those rules?I have to ask this question because I've already installed both ISA and AD DC on my Windows Server 2003, already created an Allow. All rule (just for testing connection) in ISA server but I can't ping from all the clients to my server, all the clients can ping each other and the server itself can ping to all clients. I just think that may be the affection from AD DC to my AllowAll rule in ISA server.
I successfully created some rules that worked greatly as they should work but when I hadn't installed AD DC yet (just installed ISA), however right after installing AD DC, it still worked well (this made me think that AD DC didn't affect to how ISA works). Then I configured a little related to DNS server, and maybe something I don't remember exactly and now I can't ping from my client PC to my server. My network is virtualized using VMware 8 workstation and GNS3, at first there is no need of GNS3 because I just want to test my internal network (some clients connected to the internal interface of ISA server). Depending on VMware that I can't be sure if it is some fault of VMware or any other thing but my configuration on the servers.
My friend and I bought Acer Aspire 5741's about 9 months ago and neither of us has had any problems until now. My friend went to connect to the internet via wireless router yesterday to find that there was limited connectivity (no internet access). We assumed it was a router issue and I gave her a number of things to check but all seemed ok with it. I went to her house to look at it today and when I ran the connection troubleshooter got "windows can't communicate with.......... (DNS server)". I connected my laptop via her router and everything was fine. I brought her laptop back to my house and tried to connect to the internet via my router and got exactly the same 'DNS' message - my laptop again connected without any problem.
I have re-booted the routers, laptops, network adapters etc and also checked the wireless adapter settings on both laptops, which appear to be the same. I have re-set the TCP/IP stack and have also tried ipconfig /release and /renew - none of which seems to have made any difference. The results of ipconfig/all are:-
