View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Dimension is no longer connecting to the internet via the wireless router. I have a dlink DI-524 and a dlink wireless USB key but it no longer connects. This just started today. When I try to repair the connection, it fails on "renewing IP".
OS is Windows XP.
P.S. I have tried power cycling the modem/router but nothing works. Other computers can get on the internet via the wireless router fine.
I have a dlink(wireless n-300) router going through a netgear wireless g router, i have an intel wifi link 5100 agn in my acer aspire 6930g laptop & the isp is high speed cable (Shaw cable). My question is, why does my computer have to reset the router every minute or so? It takes forever to get anything on the web which could be Bitdefender 2012 plus security?

I have it configured with a Realtek wireless card and was able to connect it to my office wireless network without a problem.But, when I try to set it up at home, it won't take. I have a dlink router that is working fine with several Mac computers in my home, so I know the router and network are up and running fine.The PC uses Windows XP. The icon in the lower right corner says dlink is connected and there is strong signal strength. However, when I check the dlink status, it shows that 2,573 "packets" are sent, while "0" are received.I've tried to connect to the internet using Mozilla, Safari, and Explorer. Each says the server cannot be found and that the internet is not connected.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwe were happily getting along with our RCN cable Motorola modem and DLink wireless 655 until the last couple of weeks. The internet would intermittently not be available, without warning. First couple of times we power cycled the modem and router, and it worked, but then stopped being available altogether. I got some support from RCN, the cable provider (they own the modem and it's old, so naturally that was my first thought). I now have a new modem and the situation is exactly the same. The error message that I get is that the IP address for the network cannot be found.
I got internet access by bypassing the router, connecting the modem directly to my (Windows XP) PC, releasing and renewing the IP address, and power cycling the modem. However, the internet still intermittently shuts down, and of course turning off the computer necessitates the whole procedure again. And now we have no wireless. Should we assume it's the router, and a new one would solve our problem? Of do we just need to reset the IP address of the router?

Usually, what happens is it says I have no Internet connection. I have to disconnect and reconnect to get the Internet back. My ethernet connected computer never loses connection.
I am running Windows 7 with a Realtek wireless card. I have updated the driver to the latest. The wireless router is a D-Link 615 e1 using DD-WRT. The router is hooked up to a Brighthouse Arris TM402G/110 modem for internet access (note: this is my second modem. I had the same problem with another modem. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name.)
When the router is connected to a U-Verse 2Wire 3800HGV modem/wireless router (with the wireless turned off) I have no Internet disconnections. Everything else is the same (I just move the Ethernet cable between the two modems). Of course, one is just a modem and the other is a NAT router/modem.
I noticed that the wireless connection has a weaker signal when connected to the Brighthouse modem then when connected to the U-Verse modem. I therefore tried to up the TX signal strength on the router. This improved the situation (and the signal strength) but I still get disconnects. I also tried setting the MSS to 1492.
Is there any way to make it so that my computer has two internet connections, so to my router it looks my computer is two separate computers, and would this increase my speed, since my router is made for up to 15 connections and has only 300mb/s to give out, so [would]each computer is[be] only limited to 20mb/s? As of now I have a dlink xtreme-n DWA-552 adapter in my computer.

There isn't a problem with the new computer being wired, but the one that used to be wired won't find my wireless at all. It has been working fine for the past 5 years but today the connection to my netbook computer kept dropping out.I can fix it temporarily by going into Network Connections, right clicking the modem, selecting wireless networks, clicking the modem, going to properties and retyping the network password. I then have to set the firewal to advanced connection settings and typing in my family network password, and changing the Windows firewall settings from On to Off.However, the connection drops out again after just a few minutes. If I then turn the firewall back on, it comes back on again for 5 minutes, but then drops out again. Then I have to repeat the whole process.

I was assisting a friend by trying to set up a wireless password on their network, I have no clue why they didn't have one, and when it did the normal resetting machine protocol after the password setup we lost all internet, we can connect to the wireless network fine but it has no internet. The modem has internet connection as when I link via ethernet I can connect to the internet. DHCP is not enabled on the router, I'm not sure if I have to set that setting on the modem? or frankly how to do that either.
