View 1 RepliesI'm working on a Gateway LT2016U and it will not connect to the Internet (wired or wireless) to its home modem. I can access the same modem with my Netbook (wired and wireless) so I know the modem is working. I can access the Internet with the Gateway anywhere else ( my home and my work) but it will not connect to the owners modem. I've ran the network trouble shooting software and it doesn't fix anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe netbook was working fine on wireless network; didnt use it for a couple of days - now I cannot conenct wired or wireless; cannot see the wired or wireless modem , only MSN dial up. But the wireless modem light is blinking steadily. Otherwise the netbook is working OK - it even seems to boot up quicker than it used to)(I would reinstall the OS but it didnt come with OS DVD or a DVD drive ; so I didnt create a backup when I bought it. I have since purchased a USB DVD drive; this is one of two identical netbooks I purchased on black Friday - other one works perfectly?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop here that I can't seem to turn wireless off on via the switch. While the obvious choice is hardware failure, it's nearly a brand new Dell Precision M6600 and I hesitate to jump to conclusions.
The physical switch on the system will not toggle wifi on or off; it is always on. I can disable it via Windows (Win 7 Pro), or simply disconnect from the network, but when I do it does not remember the wifi passwords, which may be a separate issue.
I can't figure out why my Gateway ZX 4300 will not detect any wireless networks. Is there a Wi-FI toggle somewhere?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyway, a neighbour is letting us share their broadband by way of a wifi connection (on a very long USB lead into the front garden...) but this only works on one PC.The PC is right next to the Orange router (Brightbox) but so far I've failed to do anything like bridge the connections from wifi to ethernet to the router and beyond. Should I persevere with this? I don't understand how this would work in terms of DHCP and routing IP traffic.I'm prepared to buy new kit if necessary (but not much). Most of my equipment is wifi enabled but due to the signal strength of my neighbour's wifi you have to be on the front lawn to get a signal.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have some unused 10G NIC's and want to see if there's a way to install them into a computer and turn that PC into a switch. I need to run Windows based software for driver support of the NIC's, such as Server 2012. This is a picture of what I am hoping to accomplish:
[PC1] -----10G------[PC2]------10G------< Hardware Switch >
| | | | |
1G 1G 1G 1G 1G
| | | | |
[PC3][PC4][PC5]......
As you can see in the simplified picture above, I have a real switch which has a single 10G link that is connected to PC2. I would like to add the 10G cards to PC2 so that I can create a "switch" of 10G ports on PC2 which I can then hook up other clients (such as PC1 in the above picture).
PC2 needs to provide network access and internet access to PC1 (and other PC's connected to PC2 - not pictured).
The rest of the clients on the network are connected to the regular gigabit ethernet ports of the hardware switch (including my router which is 192.168.1.1).
I looked into Windows Internet Sharing, but for that to work, I need to connect the router to PC2 above and for other considerations not described above, it is not physically possible for me to do that.
Is there software I can run on PC2 that will turn all the NIC ports of PC2 into a "switch"?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought 2 Sylvania netbooks for my kids. I was able to go wireless on my son's netbook since I found a small icon on the task manager, where I clicked and just followed the instructions. However, I can't find that icon on my daughters netbook, I've tried the control panel for internet connections but the "wireless" option is not there...
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy family and I are traveling abroad for a three week vacation (yay!). The hotel we are staying in (and as is probably the case with future hotels) does not have a WiFi connection. However, there is one ethernet port/cable that we have connected an Acer Aspire One netbook to, and it is currently connected with pretty good speeds. What I'm wondering is, is there any way to set up a secured wireless network through the netbook and the hard port connection? It seems that Windows XP Network Set Up Wizard is really not a whole bunch of guidance on this particular subject.
