Apr 23, 2011I have just set up a wireless trendnet router. Everything is set up normal and its working correctly, it correctly assigns internal IPs to wireless devices. The problem is though that for some reason we all get disconnected in games for instance and some games more than others. Rift disconnects every 30 seconds to 1 minute, World of Warcraft disconnects often, Live Messenger disconnects as well, Age of Empires Online can sometimes work fine for hours, then sometimes disconnect every now and then. Steam doesn't disconnect. Its more or less the same on any of our laptops. (all running Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium or Professional)

It does connect and work well until there is another modem in the neighborhood coming online.The task bar icon shows I am still connected but the connection is gone. I tried troubleshooting the network, reconnecting from laptop giving the passkey, log off and log on but none of these work, except restarting the modem. This has become a pain and has been so since I purchased this 4 months ago.Is there a setting change that can be done?

Problem Users running various tpyes of wireless cards on windows XP SP3 get disconnected periodically throughout the day whether they roam or not. This disconnect problem started happening after we replaced older 1200 series units running wpa and tkip and replaced with 1141n running wpa2 with aes. Users running windows 7 do not get disconnected. However there are very few W7 users on campus as this point in time.
I set up a single test unit shown below and associated two laptops to see if they would disconnect. Not once did I lose connectivity. Home Network :: Laptop Wireless Causes Router To Disconnect
Jul 25, 2011I have a HP G62 Laptop that's less then a year old (replacing a Dell we had for several years without problems) and a 2Wire router with ATT DSL that we've also had for years. Ever since we've had the new laptop we've been unable to use the wireless without problems. Periodically, (maybe once an hour or so) if the laptop is connected wirelessly it will make the router disconnect from the internet and cycle off. The router lights all go red, it cycles back on, green lights come on and re-connects.I've had ATT run a line test, had them send technicians here 3 times, they've gone through the house and followed the line to the box, trimming branches on the way. I've gotten a new router and I've tried a USB wireless adapter for the lap top. However, as soon as the wireless is disabled and it's plugged in by ethernet all of the problems go away. This would be fine if it was mostly used at a desktop but it's mostly used on the couch/around the house and the ethernet cables get in the way and keep breaking.

Jan 22, 2013I have a WLC 5508 in my datacenter, and 1142s configured with FlexConnect at a remote site.Two issues:Some APs 'die' from time to time where I cannot ping them anymore and they do not service any clients. I can reset them from the WLC after which they work again. I have some clients in the building (same area) who lose connectivity from time to time and are unable to reconnect to the wireless. I am seeing errors that the gateway cannot be found or there is not a valid IP. restarting the AP closest to the clients fixes the issue. I have replaced the AP and connected to a different port on the switch.

First a bit of background. At the end of December, my centurylink modem finally had enough problems with disconnects(was 6 or 7 years old), and Centurylink sent out a new router/modem. The new modem/router, a Zyxel, worked great, and all was good in my house hold. Then I got the bill and found out that unlike the previous modem they had sent me, this one I was paying a lease payment for. At which point I returned the Zyxel which gave us the best service we'd ever had, and bought this TD-W8960N. The reviews were glowing, setup was easy, but we started rather quickly to have disconnects. A call was made to Centurylink and they confirmed service was working, and since the modem/router was not theirs, referred us back to you. I called and after considerable time on the phone, all I was basically told to do was a hard reset to the modem. When the unit finished booting back up, internet was restored. Of course it was restored everytime we reset it for a while. At that point I was told that since the unit was working, that there was nothing left to be done. Since that time, it has disconnected us from time to time, and then in the last 2 days, sometimes it won't stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. My wife is very unhappy-she is a gamer, and a disconnecting internet is very very bad for an online gamer.
It seems that the further it gets away from a hard reset,the more it disconnects. After 6 soft resets (unplugging) today, I had to do another hard reset to get back on to register here and post this message. Is this a known problem for this unit? Is there a fix for this unit? Or, do I just need to return it to Newegg and try another manufacturer?
Again, the "leased" Zyxel gave us no problems for the month or so that we used it.

Nov 4, 2012My USB Belkin Wireless G Network Adapter seems to disconnect whenever I remove another USB device (usually a memory stick) from the PC.The problem started when I accidentally updated the driver via Windows. It didn't seem to work at all with this updated driver and I couldn't roll back or do a system restore to fix it. I'd done this before and ended up doing a complete re-install of Win 7. This time I did an upgrade install and the driver problem was cured.I'm running a HP XW8400 with Win 7 64 Pro which has been faultless for the 5 years I've had it.The only other change I've made recently is that I've stopped using a D-Link USB hub and started using the USB connectors on the HP LP2465 monitor.This only affects the wireless and no other USB devices.
When it disconnects, Win troubleshooting goes through the motions and reverts to LAN and doesn't see the wireless USB at all. This also happens if I don't use the troubleshooter.Device manager shows the driver to be working, but the wireless USB doesn't function even if I connect it directly to a USB port.The router is still working as all other devices in the house are connected.The only way around it seems to be a re-boot, but when this fault happens the PC gets stuck at "Shutting Down". Without the fault, re-boot or shut down works fine.When it happens I have to power off and on. This usually works fine but every now and then I notice the device driver for the Belkin is disabled.I've found a workaround in that I can take out the Belkin USB before removing another USB device. After the USB stick or whatever is removed if I then reconnect the wireless USB it reconnects fine.

Jun 19, 2012I've had an E4200v1 in use as my home's main router for about 3 mos. And while many others have reported disconnect problems (I think), I myself have never seen any. My router and its N & G wifi networks have been rock solid. Until yesterday that is.Now all of a sudden, most of my family is complaining about wifi disconnects, slow speeds, etc. (My primary PC is hard-wired so I don't see any problems whatsoever... the problem apears to be wifi-only)And the Apple devices (OSX & IOS) seem to have the most severe problems. But Windows devices have also seen problems, just not as critical.Also, it's worth noting that I've been running 1.0.04 the whole time, without any problems... it seemed relatively stable to me. That is until yesterday.
I've bounced the router, I've disabled/re-enabled Wireless G network. I've switched mode from "mixed" to "G-only" back to "mixed". I've changed the channel width back to the default of Auto (I had been using 20Mhz), which increased my throughput (as measured by Qcheck) so I'm leaving it "Auto".

On wireless i am set for obtain address from router DHCP (linksys E3200). Both are on the same ip range. Both are on Win XP pro. I have Everyone in all share permissions and also in the security tab. Both machines when at work are on the same domain but one is a local user on the domain. Simple file share is not selected.

Jan 4, 2011My problem: Shared network drive (folder), when accessed over wireless from more than 1 PC (2 or 3) simultaneously, drops everywhere with a "The specified network name is no longer available" (in Windows Explorer), or "File cannot be read" (in a program). And I don't mean accessing the same file; yes, the files I've tried with are in the same folder, but when the connection is lost a)one client is streaming video from one file and b)another client is copying over some other file to the same folder. It even happens, for example, when one client is transferring a file, and another tries to list the folder. The connection for the file transfer is immediately lost.
My setup: Home network. 4 clients (3 laptops - 2 running XP and one running windows 7, and a desktop, running windows XP). 1 server, running windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition, 2Gb RAM, 2.66 Celeron CPU, and with a 1.3 TB Shared drive partition. The idea is to use the server as a NAS. The desktop and the server are connected via 100MBit UTP/Ethernet, to a DLINK DI-604 Router (WAN port of the router used for Internet). To another one of the LAN ports is connected a Wireless router, NETGEAR WGT624 v3. Wireless connection for the laptops is established at 54 Mbits. The share is mainly used for movies and music sharing between the PCs. When using the shared drive from the desktop (or if I use a LAN cable to plug directly to the DI) I have zero connection problems. For the wireless, however, as I mentioned before, the second I do two twings on two different machines that are connected over wireless simultaneously (and I've tried *all* combinations) the connection is lost for 5 seconds, which is not significant, but enough to be annoying if watching a movie or trying to use the "robust" file transfer of Windows.
What I've tried so far: Perfmon was showing that Page Reads were high, so I upgraded the RAM TO 2Gb(previously the server had only 1Gb or RAM). I tried having each client map the drive using its own account, that did not work either. I've been dealing with shared drives a lot (on win 2000-win 2008 servers), but not nearly as bad of behavior. Worst I've had is having to remap the drives every once in a while if not used or a client gets restarted and loses the mapping. However, I've dealt primarily with sharing over Ethernet, and not WiFi. I'm not a rookie by any means (I've covered CCNA and have done quite a bit of sys admin work as a hobby) I've done all of the basic troubleshooting, the problem is very specific and not a general networking problem by any means.
Setup A Wireless AP To Also Access Shared Drives?
Mar 11, 2011My goal is to be able to login with a few laptops and be able to access internet and our file server's hard drive.
However, I purchased a wireless router and simply plugged this into the main router which allows internet access but does not allow access to other wired computers. If I directly plug the server into this wireless router with this router being wired to the main router, then the wired computers cannot access the server. It's as if it creates its own little network. So, I connected this directly to the main router which gives internet access but nothing else.
(Note: I cannot simply install a new main router.)
I believe I need a wireless access point, but I'm not certain.

Can any one tell me what is the issue? Why the internal data rate speed gets shared between users? i think each user should bydefault get any specific data rate speed, but that is what not happening on our end.
Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Cannot Access Shared Computers On Mac
Nov 2, 2011Recently installed an E4200 router to an MacPro following the setup as directed by Cisco Connection (connect Ethernet to router and then computer to router.) The wireless and the hard-wire connectivity works fine with accessing the internet. However, we have lost the ability to connect to other computers on our LAN via the Shared folder connection. This is usually accessed via the Sidebar (see image)
However with the E4200 in the mix, all we see is the router per its "given name" (what it was named on installation). I have tried to follow the advice mentioned in other threads, such as "Can't access network shares with E3000" and nothing worked-- and those threads seemed to apply to Windows and PCs anyway.

Feb 11, 2012I have a 1TB USB hard drive attached to my E3000 (current firmware), I use it for FTP and Shared Media on my network. Recently I have noticed that I have files out there that have 0 KB in size (file names/details are still these), I re-upload the files to the folders and during the upload the correct file size shows but a bit later(within minutes) they all show 0 KB again. I have not seen this type of behavior on an HD before. Additionally, I added some 20 mp3 files to the FTP site, same thing happened but then I zipped up the 20 mp3 files and the zip file uploaded with not problems and is still there with its proper file size, of course this is not a solution when I want to play media files on my TV.

Oct 25, 2012Our previous wireless router (Netgear Rangemax wpn802) died yesterday so I went out and bought a Western Digital My Net N900. The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

Sep 26, 2012I currently have a E3000 router. I have set up a shared USB drive successfully through this router. After a couple of months, I needed to re-locate my router into a different room. After doing so, I plug back in the USB drive and cannot access it. If I go through the GUI, it tells me that the drive type is not supported, and if I just plug it into a computer to obtain the infromation off of it, I get a "drive is corrupted" error
