TP-Link ADSL2+ Wireless :: TD-W8960N Disconnect Randomly

Feb 14, 2013

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TD-W8968
Hardware Version : V4
Firmware Version : 1.1.1 Build 120912 Rel.67406
ISP : centurylink
Region : UnitedStates
Model : TD-W8960N
Hardware Version : V4
Firmware Version : 1.1.1 Build 120912 Rel.67406
ISP : centurylink

First a bit of background. At the end of December, my centurylink modem finally had enough problems with disconnects(was 6 or 7 years old), and Centurylink sent out a new router/modem. The new modem/router, a Zyxel, worked great, and all was good in my house hold. Then I got the bill and found out that unlike the previous modem they had sent me, this one I was paying a lease payment for. At which point I returned the Zyxel which gave us the best service we'd ever had, and bought this TD-W8960N. The reviews were glowing, setup was easy, but we started rather quickly to have disconnects. A call was made to Centurylink and they confirmed service was working, and since the modem/router was not theirs, referred us back to you. I called and after considerable time on the phone, all I was basically told to do was a hard reset to the modem. When the unit finished booting back up, internet was restored. Of course it was restored everytime we reset it for a while. At that point I was told that since the unit was working, that there was nothing left to be done. Since that time, it has disconnected us from time to time, and then in the last 2 days, sometimes it won't stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. My wife is very unhappy-she is a gamer, and a disconnecting internet is very very bad for an online gamer.

It seems that the further it gets away from a hard reset, the more it disconnects. After 6 soft resets (unplugging) today, I had to do another hard reset to get back on to register here and post this message. Is this a known problem for this unit? Is there a fix for this unit? Or, do I just need to return it to Newegg and try another manufacturer?

Again, the "leased" Zyxel gave us no problems for the month or so that we used it.

Devices Randomly Disconnect From BT Homehub2?

Nov 25, 2011

All my devices (Smart Phone, 2 PC's, a laptop and a Nintendo Wii) connect using my BT Homehub 2.I'm not sure what the cause is but it seems that all my devices randomly get disconnected from the Homehub? The broadband connection seems to be fine and all the lights are normal and the BT Homehub2 option is still displayed in network options. But whenever I try to connect again it just says "Windows was unable to connect to your network".I have to physically restart the router to get the devices to reconnect, and having doing so on a regular basis has meant my IP Profile has been dropped at my exchange as it thinks it'll "keep a stable connection"?Would it be worth changing the channel and security type? (Currently using WPA)

Programs Randomly Disconnect While Others Stay Connected

May 21, 2012

The issue is a odd one, I will be playing a game League of Legends, Star Craft 2, Diablo 3, or Tera and I am in Team speak then about 5 minutes to an hour I get "Connection has been lost". I am either booted from the game or Team speak, never both. It's completely random when this happens and at times it takes a while (10mins at the longest) for me to log back into what ever program I have been disconnected from other times the reconnection is instant. I have gone through forums, talked to support for the games, had my ISP come out and test my lines and replace my modem and network card, Ping tested, Speed tested and the results were stellar, but I still have the problem and so I feel that the problem is on my end. I have a self built machine, My OS is Windows Vista 64-bit, Mobo-EVGA 132-CK-NF79 2, Processor-2.85 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad.

SB 6120 Modem - Internet Disconnect Randomly

Nov 5, 2012

I have a sb 6120 modem and a wireless router that have been randomly dropping and resetting. I thought it was happening with increased bandwidth usage, but it doesn't appear to be linked to when I'm downloading or gaming. Just in case, I set up port forwarding for my games but no change. I have swapped out wireless routers and directly connected to my modem and it still happens. I have spoken with my ISP and they can't see that I have lost connection even while I am currently disconnected. My stats look good with my downstream power stable around 4 or 5 and up around 38. Also, I have pinged my modem and each computer connected wirelessly and show no packet loss.

Dell :: 1395 Wlan Card Randomly Disconnect?

Jul 8, 2012

I have a problem with the 1395 wlan mini-card. Windows would connect to my wireless network automatically, without a hitch. Then, I suddenly disconnect from my network for no reason. when I check the wireless manager, I can't find my own network, but I can still see other people's. About a minute after that, I can't detect any network, and I must restart my laptop to fix the problem. All other computer on my network does not experience this problem. The other computer does not even report being disconnected from the wireless network. Turning the bluetooth and wireless card switch off then on again does not solve it, nor does going into device manager and disabling then enabling the wireless card work. The only way is to restart the computer.

I just finished upgrading my OS on the latitude XT  from Vista to windows 7. I formatted the hard drive before installing windows 7. This problem did not occur when I was using Vista, but it has occurred every time I boot up on windows 7. I have installed all the relevant drivers and my router is up to date on the firmware. The wireless network is encrypted using WPA2 AES, and has mac filter on, only allowing listed mac address to connect. It is broadcasting on channel 11.

I have used this computer for more than two years on Vista without this problem occurring, during which time I did several reinstall of Vista. Now, when I install windows 7 on it, this problem all of the sudden starts happening. I think it could be I forgot a driver or something, but I checked and rechecked, and did numerous reinstall of the mini-card driver to no avail.

Home Network :: Laptop Wireless Causes Router To Disconnect

Jul 25, 2011

I have a HP G62 Laptop that's less then a year old (replacing a Dell we had for several years without problems) and a 2Wire router with ATT DSL that we've also had for years. Ever since we've had the new laptop we've been unable to use the wireless without problems. Periodically, (maybe once an hour or so) if the laptop is connected wirelessly it will make the router disconnect from the internet and cycle off. The router lights all go red, it cycles back on, green lights come on and re-connects.I've had ATT run a line test, had them send technicians here 3 times, they've gone through the house and followed the line to the box, trimming branches on the way. I've gotten a new router and I've tried a USB wireless adapter for the lap top. However, as soon as the wireless is disabled and it's plugged in by ethernet all of the problems go away. This would be fine if it was mostly used at a desktop but it's mostly used on the couch/around the house and the ethernet cables get in the way and keep breaking.

Belkin Wireless G Network Adapter Seems To Disconnect / Remove Another USB Device From PC

Nov 4, 2012

My USB Belkin Wireless G Network Adapter seems to disconnect whenever I remove another USB device (usually a memory stick) from the PC.The problem started when I accidentally updated the driver via Windows. It didn't seem to work at all with this updated driver and I couldn't roll back or do a system restore to fix it. I'd done this before and ended up doing a complete re-install of Win 7. This time I did an upgrade install and the driver problem was cured.I'm running a HP XW8400 with Win 7 64 Pro which has been faultless for the 5 years I've had it.The only other change I've made recently is that I've stopped using a D-Link USB hub and started using the USB connectors on the HP LP2465 monitor. This only affects the wireless and no other USB devices.

When it disconnects, Win troubleshooting goes through the motions and reverts to LAN and doesn't see the wireless USB at all. This also happens if I don't use the troubleshooter.Device manager shows the driver to be working, but the wireless USB doesn't function even if I connect it directly to a USB port. The router is still working as all other devices in the house are connected. The only way around it seems to be a re-boot, but when this fault happens the PC gets stuck at "Shutting Down". Without the fault, re-boot or shut down works fine. When it happens I have to power off and on. This usually works fine but every now and then I notice the device driver for the Belkin is disabled.I've found a workaround in that I can take out the Belkin USB before removing another USB device. After the USB stick or whatever is removed if I then reconnect the wireless USB it reconnects fine.

Wireless D-Link DWA-525 Network Adapter Randomly Stopped Working On Desktop?

The other day I went to a friends house, came back home, booted up my PC, and my wireless network adapter wasn't working. I've tried everything to fix it.It's a D-Link DWA-525 802.11n Wireless PCI netowrk adapter. On device manager it just says 802.11 Wireless LAN Card with a yellow exclamation next to it. And when I check what the error is, it's either error 31 or 52 at different times, depending what I've tried to do to fix it.I tried downloading the driver for it off the D-Link website, nothing happens at all when I install it. I tried taking it out of my computer and plugging it in. I tried enabling it and disabling it on device manager.I noticed one thing, when it's in my computer the green light at the back that says activity next to it isn't on.

Home Network :: Linksys WRT54G With DDWRT Firmware / Network Goes Down Randomly

Aug 16, 2011

I have a crappy router/modem from comcast with two windows machines and a linux web server connected. I also have another router, a Linksys WRT54G with DDWRT firmware with WAN connected to the modem/router. The linux web server has a static IP, configured with /etc/network/interfaces The network goes down randomly. Disconnecting and rebooting the linux web server usually fixes it. It's possible that the WRT54G could be at fault as well. The problem is that I just don't have any information on what is happening on the network. (Well even if I had the information, I'm not sure I would know what to do with it) I installed wireshark, I figure I should just leave it running until the network goes down, then I can go through the packets and see if I see anything weird?

Network Connections Randomly Disabling

Aug 26, 2011

I currently own a Lenovo Thinkpad x201 Tablet Laptop. The issue is that I randomly lose internet access after usage for some time. I've determined [but not limited it to] that the computer heating is causing the computer to automatically disable the connections. I've looked at the Drivers and have found that one of the Drivers disables itself and will not re-enable when I try to enable it again. When I try to reboot, it stalls on the Shutting Down screen indefinitely [I must force restart].

I've checked the BIOS, but I haven't found much of anything. After tampering for a while with it, I received a BSOD. After trying to boot it back up, I got the "a disk read error has occurred" screen and had to send it in... at which point they reinstalled the OS, wiped my hard drive, and sent it back.

Like I said, it only happens a couple of times per day which wouldn't be so bad except that sometimes I have a Citrix session going or my Great Plains Dynamics program open and I have to go kick myself out of those sessions.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Network Slowdowns Randomly

Nov 18, 2012

A few months ago, I swapped out my venerable D-Link DI-524 router for a newer DIR-655 that I'd had for a bit but had not been using as a router.

From a fresh reboot, everything will be fine. But after a while, where a "while" can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days, my internet connection will slow to the point that it's almost unusable. This applies to wired connections as well as wireless. At that point, I've found that a simple release/renew in the router's "Tools" menu will temporarily correct the issue, but then it bogs down again after the aforementioned "while". And whether I release/renew, or do a full reboot of the router, the cycle basically repeats. Sometimes I'll have to hard reboot it, because if I let the connection get too bad, it will get to a point where any browser will take a half hour just to load the router's page.

I'm pretty sure it's the router and not the ISP, because I hadn't had this issue with the DI-524; and after running a large overnight data transfer with a machine connected directly to the cable modem, Speedtest didn't show any slowdown (at that point, Speedtest will usually show a major slowdown when going through the router, even if the network doesn't "feel" sluggish).

Here's a rundown of my network setup and my current router configuration.Hardware version: B1, Firmware version: 2.03NA,My ISP is RoadRunner (Time Warner), which is a cable modem-based service.

I run an Amahi server that is directly wired to the router. I am running both a DHCP server and a DNS on that machine. As a consequence, I have "Enable DHCP Server" and "Enable DNS Relay" unchecked on the router's Setup->Network Settings page.

Connected directly to the DIR-655 are the Amahi server (Gigabit), a D-Link DGS-2208 switch, a TP-Link 100Mb switch, and a VOIP phone.

Connection Type:      DHCP Client
Cable Status:         Connected
Network Status:       Established
StreamEngine:         Disabled

Network Upload Speed Is Randomly Reduced?

Jan 2, 2013

First discovered this problem because I was unable to connect to a particular web site that was functional according to a friend that I was talking to on the telephone while trying to connect.

Problem: Network UPLOAD speed is randomly reduced from 2Mb to 600Kb while download speed seems unaffected (Abt. 30 to 50Mb). First eliminated the router, modem and cables as suspects working with ISP tech support. CAT 5 cabling to router and cable modem. Then I discovered that another machine on the network did not have this problem. I then discovered that disabling the network and re-enabling the network cured the problem.....temporarily. Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from MB web site. No solution. Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from Realtek web site. No solution. Updated MB BIOS. No solution.

MB= Asus M5A97 EVO
CPU: AMD FX-4100
OS: MS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 (Latest updates)
RAM: 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28
NIC on MB Realtek PCIe GBE

Disabled TCP/IPV6. No solution. I suspect it is one of the "Advanced" settings for the Realtek PCIe GBE, but I don't know what they do. Anytime I disable and re-enable the network adapter my upload speed returns to normal. I haven't been able to isolate a particular action that causes the slow-down. The attached pics show speed test, before and after disable - re-enable network adapter. Same server.

2 Computers On Network Lose Server Access Randomly

Feb 1, 2013

Roughly 10 or so computers and 10 or so printers connected to a server 2003 machine with att dal internet. Upgraded to att uverse and because of our program that we use (hotel management software) we have to keep the gateway / ip's all the same. Well for whatever reason, just so happen that our specific info that we have to use, the uverse modem has reserved for its self and we cant use it on there. We hook up a cisco e1000 router and have it act as the gateway so that we can configure our settings the way we need. Get everything going just perfectly fine. Sometime that night, 2 of the computers lose server/networked files access, but still have internet access. They only lose access to shared files, printers, etc... Logging off/on or restarting the pc's fixes the problem. But then every night almost like clockwork around the same time frame, it all happens again. I've changed ip's on the machines, changed settings here and there, but nothing has fixed the problem. The biggest pain is, I cant replicate the problem, I have to waot until that night to know if what I did worked or not. The last thing I tried was changing the lease expire timer in the router from 24 hours to 7 days. I figured I'd give that a try since it seems that its almost 24 hours exactly between errors.

Wifi Network Adapter Randomly Gets Limited Connectivity And Freezes?

Apr 25, 2013

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. After a while of my laptop being on, my wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", and won't connect to the internet.Disabling and enabling the adapter will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it always occurs again within the hour.Sometimes the entire adapter will randomly just disable itself, and the computer will completely freeze, meaning I have to press the power on/off. Sometimes the adapter will just disappear from Device Manager. Searching for "plug and play" devices will cause it to freeze.

Apart from having to reboot, what also seems to work is disabling the wifi from PC Settings, putting the computer to sleep, then awaking it and turning wifi back on. I've had to do that 6 times whilst typing this post.I've tried flushing my dns, registering it, renewing and releasing. Assigning a static DNS address. All those things. Though I may have done them wrong.Operating system: Originally came with Windows 7 64bit installed, issue began on this.I installed Windows 8 64bit Pro a month ago, did not reset settings. Problem persists[CODE]
