Home Network :: Linksys WRT54G With DDWRT Firmware / Network Goes Down Randomly

Aug 16, 2011

I have a crappy router/modem from comcast with two windows machines and a linux web server connected. I also have another router, a Linksys WRT54G with DDWRT firmware with WAN connected to the modem/router. The linux web server has a static IP, configured with /etc/network/interfaces The network goes down randomly. Disconnecting and rebooting the linux web server usually fixes it. It's possible that the WRT54G could be at fault as well. The problem is that I just don't have any information on what is happening on the network. (Well even if I had the information, I'm not sure I would know what to do with it) I installed wireshark, I figure I should just leave it running until the network goes down, then I can go through the packets and see if I see anything weird?

Dec 1, 2012

I have a WRT54G2 V1 linksys wireless router. I was going to upgrade it to DD-WRT and install it at my mother's house. It was working before upgrading it to dd-wrt. I followed the directions located at:Linksys WRT54G2 v1.0 - DD-WRT WikiAfter following the directions and doing a hard reboot I was able to log into the router but was unable to connect to the internet via WiFi and/or Ethernet. My internet enabled TV and wireless labtop detected the ssid made by the router but could not connect to the internet. I am able to connect to the internet using a old Netgear WGR614 v6 router.

Home Network :: How To Connect WAP54g To WRT54g

Jul 18, 2012

Guys I want to connect most of my home to a single router located in basement.I got the router from ISP and hooked it with one of those devices that transmit Ethernet via electricity and in the ground floor I hooked WRT54g to the other device (electricity transmitter) and configured WRT with the following:Disabled DHCP so it will be done by the router.

SSID: MainHomeWAN
Security: WPA Shared.
Channel: 11

On the first floor I hooked the WAP54g and configured it as wireless bridge with the same as above and entered the MAC address of WRT device. The only difference is the channel is 6.In ground floor the signal is great but on first is not because it doesn't get an IP and even if it gets one it losses is soon. So I turned WAP device and I got stale connection but very poor.

Linksys Access Point :: WRT54G - Unable To Find Access Point In Home Network

Aug 29, 2009

I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1.  My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.

I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390  but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold  from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.

The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.

Home Network :: Cisco Linksys E1500 - Wireless Security Protocol For Guest Network?

Oct 29, 2012

Having an issue with a Cisco Linksys E1500 on a home network. The device has a feature to provide a guest wireless network but the guest network can't get to the internet. A wired connection is fine, as is the normal wireless network but not the guest. The cheesy thing is, that it doesn't list an option for what type of wireless security protocol you want on the guest network. I'm assuming that it uses the same security protocol that the normal wireless network uses, but who knowsEspecially weird is that it asks you what password you want on the guest network but then the guest network show to be insecure when you try to connectthought maybe it was something funky with some of my configurations so I went ahead and factory defaulted it and just set it up with an insecure network for both the normal and guest networks. This didn't solve it. The guest network still couldn't get to the internet. In fact, the guest network can't even ping the router.

Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:

- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface

Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.

- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.

- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.

Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.

Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)

Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

Home Network :: Need Input On Network At Home Newly Wired

Jan 14, 2012

I am a new student in networking, taking the CCNA courses, and now want to rewire my home. I currently have a cable modem and E2500 setup running my network. I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

Linksys WRT54G - Network Keeps Crashing / Disconnecting

Mar 15, 2012

I am on the internet, let's say browsing youtube, or play multiplayer games, sometimes my internet will crash and disconnect me, leaving that familiar yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. and that will stay there for about 1-5 minutes and then will reconnect me in. but sometimes it will just keep doing that repeatedly.I've tried to work it out myself, power cycling and everything but nothing seem to work.

This issue is on my laptop, and I am using wireless connectivity

-My isp is AOL (as long as I know) I live in Quebec and my broadband is from bell, well I think it's DSL or Cable, it uses the phone cable..

-My router is a linksys WRT54G and Modem is Speedstream 4200 ethernet/usb ASDL modem.

-I use AVG9, Malwarebytes. I am intending to switch anti-virus software but do not know which one is the best.

LinkSys WRT54G Router - Available Network Disappear In Windows 7

Jun 16, 2011

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which has an Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter. My router is LinkSys WRT54G. I have configured this router with an SSID and encrypted using WEP.I created a network using 192.168.1.1, saved the configuration and then exited out. This creates a network that Windows "sees" in the list of available networks. However, for reasons I cannot figure out when I shut off my Vaio (I thought it happened when I powered down my router) why my available network does not "see" the network I just created.Under "manage wireless networks" I can see my network, but on the list of available networks it is not there. I then reconfigure the router and the network shows up. I at first thought it was a router configuration problem, but it now appears to happen when I shut off the PC - almost like I am not saving my configuration somewhere

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - How To Broadcast Only One Network

Mar 3, 2010

I recently had trouble connection to my Linksys WRT54G router. However, in this process I had to create a couple of new profiles/networks/SSID or whatever they are called. I now have one functioning network, but my router is still broadcasting the other two networks. How can I get my router to only broadcast the one network, I am currently using? I erased them from Vista, so that my own computer does not automatically log on to the, but that is clearly not enough. Since one of the networks is not secured with a password (dont ask why), my concern is that my neighbours can access it. BTW, I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satelite A200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54g - Setting Up Wifi Network?

Apr 27, 2013

I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)

I am planning to set up a wi-fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet. I have included a diagram that I drew for the person that will install it. Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side) but not well and with a dead spot in the top left because of too many walls to go through.

My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.

1. Is this is a good plan for the size of property? I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly. Hopefully putting them in the attic takes care of this.

2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?

3. What are the main settings I need to know about? What "mode" does each need to be set to?  Do they need different default gateways?

Can I use the same password/security for all of them? Should I use the same SSID for all?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - XBox Can See Network But Will Not Connect To It

Nov 29, 2011

Yesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..
