Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Computer Sees Network But Can't Connect

Aug 28, 2011

So I have a WRT54G router since a couple of years now.  Laptop (Win7 64bit), ipod, ipad, phones can connect to it without a problem, but new computer (Win7 64bit) can't.  I can connect the PC via ethernet without a problem though.

I powercycled my devices, I changed broadcasting options off and then back on, changed my security mode, tried the MAC Cloning (after doing the MAC Cloning, I lost internet connectivity even through ethernet), resetted my security settings, changed SSID, I'm broadcasting through channel 11 2.462.  I also tried deleting the HomeGroup

Important fact: the network is in the list of available wireless network, but Signal Strength is No Signal and I can't connect to it. My network adapter is ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card, drivers are up to date. I've upgraded to the latest router firmware.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Laptop Doesn't Get Error In School Network

Jul 2, 2011

I've tried looking for solutions on the windows seven forums and all over Google but none of them worked. The problem is, sometimes I get an "Unidentified Network, No Internet Access" error on my laptop (wireless). When this happens, the lan speed drops to 1.0 mbps and I get the "No Data Received" error when I try to load pages. My internet is on fine and my brother can access the internet fine on a desktop which is wired to the router and modem. My mom's notebook sometimes gets this error as well.

Is there any real solution for this problem or known compatibility problems between my WRT54G (version 1.1 I think) and Windows 7? Really need a solution to this, before I had to re-setup my whole connection, I didn't get such a problem. My laptop doesn't get the error in the school network either.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54g Not Connecting To Computer

May 8, 2012

It constantly disconnecting and wouldn't stay connected for a long period of time, so I tried messing with the settings and it no longer connects to the internet. It tells me that the settings for this router is not compatible for the computer settings. I have reset the router to its factory settings, restarted the computer, restarted the router but nothing changed. I have tried plugging my computer to the router via ethernet cord and typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address field of Internet explorer and nothing comes up. I also forgot the password to the router!

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Accessing A Drive On Another Computer

Aug 22, 2011

I am using a LinkSys Model: WRT54G Version: 6 wireless router configured to use WEP.I have two computers, the main desktop and a laptop for mobile operation. How do I configure the LinkSys to allow the laptop to access a external (mapped) USB drive on the desktop?

The laptop can access the mapped drive on the desktop when it is hardwired to the LinkSys (i.e., not wireless) but I cannot find a reference in the Pdf manual or online on how to access the drive on the desktop from the laptop when the laptop is connected via the WiFi.The desktop is running XpSp3 and the laptop is Vista.A second and more important question is should I do this. Can the accessing of the drive via the WiFi be done with adequate security. I would rather err on the side of caution.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - See Signal But Can't Connect With Computer Or Iphones?

Oct 17, 2011

I am having problems connecting to my wireless internet.  We were getting a poor signal so we moved our router to our living room where we always are, but now we can't connect.  We tried resetting everything, turned on and off several times.  Went to the linksys wireless set up page, changed SSID and password.  Still can't connect with the computer or our iphones.  It shows our SSID is there but won't connect.  My internet when plug directly to the computer works fine (I am using it now).  My computer can connect to the router Linksys WRT54G, we just can't get it to connect to the wireless.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G To Transfer Admin Control Panel From Old Computer

Dec 30, 2011

When I first installed my wireless router a few years ago, I did it with my old computer which has Windows XP as its operating system.  It is on this computer that the Linksys "admin control panel" is installed, which allows me see what computers are connected through the router, see what the settings of the router are, etc. I recently purchased a new computer which has Windows 7 as the operating system.  As I transfer programs and documents from my old computer to my new computer, I have run into the problem of how to transfer the Linksys "admin control panel" from my old computer to my new computer. The original installation CD for Linksys won't work with Windows 7 so I don't even have that as a starting point.  I tried going to the web-based admin site, but can't access it from either computer.

Computer Not Accessing Linksys WRT54G Router After New XP Install?

Apr 4, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54G to which 2 computers are connected of which one has no problems at all.The other computer just had its hard drive replaced and Windows XP Pro SP1 installed on the new hard drive. With the new operating system, I cannot get the computer to access the router. The connection status reports that the network device is working but IPCONFIG /ALL reports nothing (blank). The NIC is onboard the motherboard (ASUS P5LP-LE). I have swapped out cable ports at the router and tried a different cable to the faulty computer to no avail. If I had a spare NIC I would already have tried that too. FYI, it was working without problems prior to the hard drive crash that prompted the new drive and OS install.I tried a wireless USB network interface (Zonet ZEW2508) and the computer also reports it working. However, the network icon continually cycles between connected and unavailable, about 6 seconds connected and 1 second unavailable. IPCONFIG also reports blank on this.

WRT54G - Wireless Network Very Slow On Laptop?

May 8, 2012

The WRT54G is located upstairs in the game room. The entire house is also wired with Ethernet. I mean every single room except the nook. Well guess where my wife has her laptop set up, yup the nook. She wants wireless. And she insists on staying in the nook.

If I take the laptop in the living room (downstairs and closer to the router) It gets 12Mbs. If I take it upstairs near the router it gets 18Mbs. But in the nook (downstairs) it gets 2Mbs. My wired desktop is currently pulling 19Mbs. I have half a dozen WRT54G's stored in a closet. Should I setup a wrt54g as an AP or should I buy a WAP54G (ebay $20)? I have an Ethernet port in the living room, which is directly across from the nook. I tihnk If I had an AP there then problem would be solved.

Does the signal supposed to degrade that much when passing thru walls?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - How To Broadcast Only One Network

Mar 3, 2010

I recently had trouble connection to my Linksys WRT54G router. However, in this process I had to create a couple of new profiles/networks/SSID or whatever they are called. I now have one functioning network, but my router is still broadcasting the other two networks. How can I get my router to only broadcast the one network, I am currently using? I erased them from Vista, so that my own computer does not automatically log on to the, but that is clearly not enough. Since one of the networks is not secured with a password (dont ask why), my concern is that my neighbours can access it. BTW, I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satelite A200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54g - Setting Up Wifi Network?

Apr 27, 2013

I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)

I am planning to set up a wi-fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet. I have included a diagram that I drew for the person that will install it. Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side) but not well and with a dead spot in the top left because of too many walls to go through.

My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.

1. Is this is a good plan for the size of property? I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly. Hopefully putting them in the attic takes care of this.

2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?

3. What are the main settings I need to know about? What "mode" does each need to be set to?  Do they need different default gateways?

Can I use the same password/security for all of them? Should I use the same SSID for all?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - XBox Can See Network But Will Not Connect To It

Nov 29, 2011

Yesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G / Setting Up E1200 As Extension To Existing Network?

Apr 20, 2012

I have a WRT54G that has served us well for several years, but I needed a network connection in another part of the house, both wired for TV, and wireless for downstairs.  So I ran an ethernet cable through the house and connected it to my new E1200.  It's connected to Port 1, not the Internet port. The TV plugs into Port 2, and my Apple TV to port 3.  So far so good, TV and Apple TV appear to work fine.   Wireless is where I'm having problems, the wireless signals between the two routers appear on Wifi Analyzer I'm using.  Both appear strong in signal for a second, then they disappear, then they appear again for a second, then they disappear.  So the wifi's signals appear, then disappear and this cycle continues.

The WRT54G is setup with DHCP, channel 6.

IP Address:    192.168.1.1              Subnet Mask:    255.255.255.0              DHCP Server:    Enabled              Start IP Address:    192.168.1.100               End IP Address:    192.168.1.149

The E1200 DHCP is disabled, channel 11, 20mhz.

Router IP Address:  192.168.1.2  Subnet Mask:  255.255.255.0   DHCP Server:  Disabled  Start IP Address:  192.168.1.1   (DHCP disabled)  End IP Address:  192.168.1.50  (DHCP is disabled)

I've tried both routers named the same, and then tried 2 different names.  I've rebooted them as well after making changes.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Network Drops Out / Power Reset Immediately?

Nov 25, 2011

Our wireless network has started to drop out periodically.  If we pull power and restore, the network immediately comes back up on all our our devices.  We have the WRT54G, and we have 2 PCs, 2 Macs, and 3 iPhones, and a wired home phone.  Normally there are not this many devices connected, but with everyone home for Thanksgiving and all these devices on the network we have started to see this issue.

Are there simply more devices than the router can handle?  Is one of the devices crashing the network for everyone?  What typically will cause something like this?
