So we run an internet connection through a DLINK Wirless router. All of our compters connect fine, as soon I try to connect through my ipod touch the connection drops. I think what happens is that my ipod shares the same ip address as my computer and it drops.
View 13 RepliesI have the A1 version. I originally bought it and used it for a few months. I was very disappointed with the performance and went back to my Linksys WRT54G (running DD-WRT).
I recently decided to try it again. I upgraded to firmware 1.13. It worked pretty well for a week or so but now I am considering going back to my Linksys again. I keep losing my internet connectivity. The signal can be strong but internet becomes unavailable. Sometimes, just waiting it out works. Sometimes, disconnecting and re-connecting works. Sometimes, a reboot of the router works. Sometimes, nothing seems to work until it is good and ready to work. Sometimes, I cannot access the internet on my computer but my girlfriend still can. Sometimes, neither of us can connect.
I want to use it because I want the wireless-N speed to transfer files to my media center (and I paid a lot of money for it!) but the aggravation is getting to be too much.
There seems to be some correlation between visibility of my neighbors' networks and the connectivity issues but I could not swear to that. This is amazing to me because my neighbors are pretty far away and I can barely get the DIR-825 signal from my basement to my second floor.
no matter what device is used to connect to our Linksys WRY54G v2.0 Router, whether it be CAT6, internal wireless card (Intel Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n), or USB wireless card (Linksys AE1000), she drops connections at random and frequent times and has to disconnect the device and reconnect to get internet back. She is still connected to the network though. The issue has been becoming more and more frequent the past few days and has been ongoing for a few months. We are at wits end with the issue. I looked on Linksys' website for updated firmware for the router AND the AE1000, no new firmware and same driver that is installed for the AE1000. We have tried to enable Multimedia Environment, Disable 802.11, unchecked "Automatically turn off device to save power", changed router channels from 6 to 1, have uninstalled ALL third party firewalls and AV/Spyware/Malware/Adware removal programs (but not before scanning the system), and lastly tried the DHCP Braodcast Flag Fix.

View 7 Replies View RelatedGot a Linksys E3200, and a gigabit card, even two, Realtec and Intel, have a connection ggbit. If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.
Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?

The router works fine until I plug the 4th wire in the back, which goes to a 2nd desktop computer, then it is only a matter of time until the router drops all internet connections including the direct wire to desktop #1, wireless, and the other two wires.This is my 2nd e2000 router since Amazon replaced the first one after about 4 months as it was having the same problem.

Longstanding problem with Ethernet connected computer losing connectivity to E3200. Connectivity reestablished by powering down, cutting power to cable modem, computer, and E3200, and restarting. Other wireless connections (iphones, ipad, other dos -based laptops have no problems--never any loss of connectivity. Things I have done to date: removed Linksys E-series software and reloaded, updated drivers, changed all wiring to router, and checked IP addresses and they are different.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was browsing through a blog website (tumblr), and I noticed that several images looked VERY distorted and bizarre.[URL] This started continuing as a scrolled through my dashboard, and even .gifs were affected, also becoming very distorted like flashing white and having broken parts to it. At first I thought it was a problem with just the website, but after asking other people who said they were fine and browsing through other sites, I noticed that the problem wasn't just that. It even looks like it's affecting your website's banner. [URL] The browsers I tried this with are Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, all of them having the same problem. Also on several websites like tumblr, youtube, yahoo, etc. I even get times where it looks like I see bits or large chunks of html on the page, as if those are broken too. Now, the strange part is all of my images that I have saved to my hard drive and all of my gifs, etc. are working completely fine, and I can view them with no problem. Images on the internet, however, are very distorted. This is also happening to several images, not every single one of them. Then I thought that my laptop could be infected with a virus, but I performed multiple virus scans (Windows Defender which I know isn't that good, a Norton antivirus scan, and an Avast scan.) All scans said my computer was completely clean and free of threats. I had also gone through my computer's display settings and all of that just to see, even though I had never touched those. Everything looked to be fine from what I saw. And now starting yesterday, the problem has mysteriously spread to my iPod touch (2nd gen but it still works fine), with images that I view online also having the same distortion problems.
I was only able to rule things out to the internet connection now. Now, what's odd is I was at first trying this on my iPod, but I went and connected to the wireless network of a neighbor, and images on the iPod actually looked restored. Then after trying it on my laptop and going on my browsers, the images were strangely distorted again... I then went and cleared the cache and cookies (not including the history), and that actually managed to do SOMETHING. The images that were distorted on my browser were restored, but then OTHER images and .gifs became distorted. (Also as a side question, is it the end of the world for me if I erase my cache on cookies while on a website? I heard from people that you shouldn't delete your cache if you're on a website, but I didn't know about that at first... Of course, I don't think it made things worse, since the problem was still present before I deleted it.) Clearing the cache on my ipod's internet also seemed to have the same effect as with my laptop and its browsers... Also clearing the cache several times only went only caused the same thing, with some of the restored images from before going back to being distorted.
I am trying to connect my iPod touch to the internet. We have a home wifi network, but it keeps saying i wasn't able to join the network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the same exact problem! pictures in all browsers are distorted but refreshing will sometimes correct them but also will distort them so u can keep refreshing and get dif results every time. it happened on christmas for me as well after i connected a kindle fire dont know if thats the problem but it has to be something with router or internet. all my pics on my pc are fine its only when im online and its on all pcs in house. ran 3 dif scans and nothing more than tracking cookies were found. i also deleted all cache on all browsers and problem still persists. my router is a netgear wgr614v7?

All is well until I try to connect a specific notebook. Connection is estabished for about 30sec and then the router drops ALL connections (including internet and local network!) and I must re-start him by un-plugging from power. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 1801 router connected to a 3550 switch with a regular 802.1q trunk, and I am curious as to what may be causing the unknown protocol drops on the connected router interface.
The switch is without any configuration at all except the following for the trunk configuration on the interface connecting to the router.
Switch:
-interface FastEthernet0/1
-switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
-switchport mode trunk
Router:
-Interface FastEthernet8
-switchport mode trunk
There is nothing connected to the switch other than the router so the dropped traffic must be originating from the switch itself.The unknown protocol drop counter on the router increments by one every 30 seconds, and I tried using a packet sniffer but nothing noticeble showed up.
I read elsewhere on these forums that it might be udld, but that is not enabled by default, and just to be sure I tried disabling it on the interface and as expected it said it was not enabled, so I am ruling that one out.I also read that it could be because the router is recieving traffic from other protocols than IP, but I do not see how it applies in this case.
what does a 3550 send every 30 seconds that my 1801 does not understand?Could it have something to do with STP?
I have 2 routers the first is plugged into the telephone line and has a power-line adapter plugged into it the second router which is downstairs is just to extend the range,unfortunately I have a very poor connection (wireless) and internet often drops out. I want to reset the power-line adapter but but will this mean that the connection will be lost from the second router and it is just my computer that is wrong? My trouble is that I don't think the power-line adapter is working but it might be or... its just that the they both connect between each other wirelessly? Or do they both connect to each other wirelessly? both connections from each router are pretty poor. I have updated my wireless card as well. I am not resetting the power line adapter until I know the internet is going to be fine afterwards as my Dad needs it for his work

It is solid as a rock to my wired computers, but the Internet connection (not the wireless signal) to my wireless devices (laptops and smart phones) occasionally drops out for several minutes, many times each day. It is not necessary to reset my router to reconnect; after a while wireless Internet returns on its own. I upgraded from another D-Link router and never had this problem. In my judgment the problem appears to be the router. why the wireless Internet connection might disappear and then reestablish itself?I used an app on my smart phone to select Channel 11. No neighbors have routers close to this channel. My cordless phones are DECT (1.9 MHz). My microwave oven does not cause this dropout.
The DIR-655 wireless settings are pretty standard:
- WPA personal security mode
- WPA mode is Auto (WPA or WPA2)
- Cipher is TKIP and AES
- Group key update interval is 3600 seconds
- 802.11 mode is mixed n and g
When this wireless Internet connection dropout occurs, the router's signal strength does not decrease; the Internet connection just disappears. Time after time I have confirmed that the integrity of the Internet connection remains solid on my wired computers and disappears only from my laptops and smart phones.I have checked the wireless spectrum when the wireless Internet connection disappears. There is no other signal, e.g., no neighbor's router on my channel (11), and the strength remains at 5 bars.
So I have a DIR-655 and my internet connection drops every day. I have replaced the DIR-655 with a linksys just to try it and it works fine. This has happened with more than 1 of these 655''s. Also I have clients calling saying the wireless drops and it will not let them reconnect until I reboot the router. I have updated to the newest firmware with the same issues. I know its not bad cause I have more than 1 655 doing the same thing at a different location as well.

My ipod detects the wifi network but when i select it , it asks for password. now i dont know which password is this bcoz everytime i poer on my computer or laptop i never type a password b4 accessing internet.. it is auto connected. i know the admin password for my router but that is denied by ipod to connect to internet. Is there any other password we have to give for connecting deveices through LINKSYS or some changes i need to do in my connection ?

Whenever I receive or make a call using my iDECT s2i cordless telephone the internet drops and it takes ages to reconnect. I've checked all the connections and every phone socket has an ADSL filter. I understand that some wireless devices can affect a router and that these are usually 2.4ghz devices but I have no idea if my cordless telephones are 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz or indeed if this is the source of the problem at all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Linksys Router WRT54G has recently (yesterday) started dropping the internet after being online for a few hours.The current setup has been in place for several years. I started with the Broadband provider and they verified that the signal and cable modem is working properly. My own tests back this up. At first I simply reset the router. Unplugged it for 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Internet is back. Then I tried resetting the cable modem and the router. This works as well but the problem presists. Resetting the router alone has the same affect.So, something with the router is causing it to drop the internet. The network does not drop however. I can still use my network drive and the computers indicate a network with no internet connection.

Drops connection drops wireless, wired, and the globe internet icon goes Lambert/orange. I've reset the router to default and it still does that. What could be the cause?
I've done a lot of changing around, disabling unicast, changing from WPA Auto to WPA2, etc etc, I just changed the router to Netgear WGR614 v7 and it works perfectly fine now.
Ive had the WRT160Nv3 for a while and its all been great but recently ive had some issues.Im not sure if this is my ISP but the connection to the router drops out or i lose connection to the internet.I thought the firmware was out of date so i updated to 3.03 from 3.02 and it doesnt seem to fix the problem. what it did was create new problem. now when you edit settings it says >> JAVASCRIPT; true or if i try to edit port forwording it wont save the data i enter.This was all brought to my attention when I tried to connect to my wireless and my SSID was not what i set it as, the router had some way been reset. could something of happened to the router for it to be acting all crazy.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWired computer runs XP sp3. Wireless runs Ubuntu 10.04. Hooked to Embarq DSL modem. Setup worked flawlessly for a year or more. Now the router is sporadically dropping the internet connection for both PCs. I haven't discovered how to guarantee an immediate reconnection so the desktop is now connected directly to the modem. The modem is apparently stable as I'm not losing the internet connection. When the router is in the circuit, the internet connection may or may not appear shortly.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.
I have several WAP2000 (Firmware 2.0.0.5), and while they work fine for PC's, iPhones, iPod touches cannot connect to them.Well, they connect briefly, get an IP address from the router, and immediately drop the connection to re-connect again.I have tried changing channels, eliminating all but one of the AP's, and so forth. Any issues with this firmware? I see posts where people are saying their iPhones connect up fine. This happens on versions 3.x and 4.x of the iphone O.S. It's not limited to one iphone or ipod touch; we've tried several.
