View 1 RepliesIs classic firmware 2.0.37 for the EA4500/E4200v2 vulnerable? I see that the workaround is to use the latest Smart Wifi firmware. How soon can we expect to see a classic firmware update? [URL] Linksys quote taken from a random review that I found on Amazon below......The manufacturer commented on this review(What's this?) Posted on Jul 26, 2012 9:53:51 AM PDT Linksys says: (MANUFACTURER) Jason, Cisco Linksys plans to offer Software Updates to the EA Series router for customers who choose a local management option (including Cisco Connect/Classic). We will continue to provide Customer Care and deliver SW Updates to address Security, Critical Bugs and User Interface issues as required. Customers can comfortably stay with the local management option and Cisco will deliver continued support.

(2 much 2 ask for both)
Main Issues
--Will NAS work with PS3?
--Incase of a computer, i know i will be able to use logmein or gotomypc to Download files directly to that machine even when im not home and when i do get home its ready to go. Can the same be achieved with a NAS?What else should i consider? i.e. pros and cons of both.
Trying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm on windows 7, I was able to view people on the network, able to access their public folders, but all of a sudden when I click on network, it just says at the top "Network Discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible, Click to change..." I click on it and it doesn't do anything at all, same message comes on. SO i thought Ill change the settings, I see that Network Discovery is off so I turn them both on, save changes and then try again, same message appears, I go back to settings and see that they are switched off again, it doesn't stay on.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a PC that connects to a wireless connection. I would like to share this connection with MORE THAN ONE PC. I have read it is possible to share it with ONE other PC via a crossover cable.I would like to share this to a router so that the PCs connected to the router can use this connection. Is this possible? If so, what would I need?(Other than a crossover cable and router)Side note: I'll be sharing this connection to a wireless router - so I'm hoping to basically relay the connection that way.I know it is possible to buy extenders that extend the range of wireless connections, but this is where the restrictions come into play...-We are not able to network these computers on the wireless network, as we do not manage it and have some quite strict privileges.-The router will also be used to share a hard drive via USB.

I have four PCs that connect wirelessly to the router, one with Vista, the others with XP. Is there anyway that I could share drive contents on my PCs over the network whilst ensuring that the tenant couldn't access these files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this may appear to have been asked before but I've scoured the Internet and can't find anything exactly applicable to the setup I'm trying to achieve. I had a sky ADSL connection in my living room that had my tv, ps3, NAS and netbook wired in. I've since changed to a sky fibre connection but this had to be installed in the master phone line which is upstairs. This obviously isn't a problem for all of the wireless devices around the house including the netbook and ps3 in the living room. The NAS and TV are still wired to the old router so can see each other with no problems. Any pc trying to connect to the NAS can just switch to the old router via wifi if desired. The only problem I have is that the TV can no longer access the Internet.
I initially tried to use ICS on the netbook (it's left on permanently) - it's wired to the old router and wirelessly connected to the new one. This appeared to be working for a while but is no longer playing ball. I've tried bridging the connections and the tv and NAS both had Internet access but it's very sporadic. Is this a reasonable setup or should I be looking for another solution? I can specify a manual ip, subnet and default gateway on the tv if necessary - I was going to point it towards the bridge's gateway but I don't know about IP?
I am connected wirelessly on my laptop to my DIR-655 (D-Link) router. There is something weird going on to me in which is shows I am connected to two networks, one my home network clearly identified. The other one a "public network" listed as unidentified, all on one wireless connection. I run Windows 7 SP 1 32-bit. I would like somehow to merge or remove the second one from the listing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using the e4200 for about a week. So far, so good! However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such). Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share. In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less). Regardless of source, the content was not playable. It buffered like crazy. So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
Our previous wireless router (Netgear Rangemax wpn802) died yesterday so I went out and bought a Western Digital My Net N900. The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

I just upgraded from my factory default and found network sharing of my USB HDD was no longer working. It came down to two bugs in the latest firmware:Even though there is now the option to share without a password that option does not work and you still need a password. And that password is the factory default of "admin" even though I have set my own password.
I just purchased an AE2500 today for my desktop computer because my router is in another room. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I tried installing the software from the disk first and it would not detect the adapter. But Windows did detect the device and I was able to manually install the drivers and in the control panel it says the device is working properly. When I go to the network sharing center no network is detected I then go to the netwokr adapters and the device is disabled. I try enabling the device and it will not. So then I go and boot in to Windows 8 RC and the device is detected and works fine and everything seems fine. I downloaded the driver from the website tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it with the downloaded version and still a no go.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried searching google and Cisco Home Community for this answer, but no luck. Maybe I didn't phrase my search correctly. I have an external drive connected to a mac mini which is shared on the network. When transferring folders to or from that external drive, our internet connection stops working until the transfer finishes, then comes back up. I've tested this in a variety of ways. Any transfer of data from shared folders in any combination of devices causes internet to stop working both on wired and wireless devices until the transfer is done, then they all work again. Router firmware: 1.0.03.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection. Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses. When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). And data featching should prefferably be from many hosts, using multiple connections so that speed can be improved..

Other network drives on the same server work. Because it can be fixed by rebooting, the IT person has filed it as low priority / given up on fixing it but I would really like to shut him up but I can't find the answer in google. His computer is Windows 2000 SP4 and the server is Windows NT 4.0.
Edit: It happened again and I was able to get the actual error message. "H:DIST is not accessible The specified network name is no longer available"
i have a mobile card that is shared with my ps3 via ethernet cord so i can go online but one day it stopped working and when i plug in my ethernet cord, in network and sharing center another connection thing pops up and its an unidentified network (which is the ps3) but next to the access, it says limited connectivity and when i go in to status it says ipv4: limited.
