Wireless :: Selective Encryption Algorithm In Wired Network?
Sep 22, 2011
if there is a wireless adhoc network and i want to provide the security to the data which i want to transmitt over this network but i dont want to encrypt the whole data but to apply encryption in a part of data which conatins the important information.
Due to network security audit we are interesded in encryption algorithm used for authentication of administrator and operators in Starent Networks ST40 Intelligent Mobile Gateway. To be more clearly, we need to know what type of hash is used for password storing when "showsecrets" command is omitted.
My computer recently (two months ago) became unable to connect to various websites such as Facebook, various web comics, and Slashdot. The weird part is that I can ping the websites and get returns. Also I can connect to Spotify, YouTube, Netflix fine. This tells me it isn't a bandwidth issue. I also have troubles with Dyn Updater and Drop-box not connecting, this tells me it isn't a chrome problem. My laptop can access everything fine from the same connection.I have reformatted my desktop hard drive and the problem returns.
I have replaced my father's wired modem (he's with [url]... in the UK) with a Belkin Surf+ (F7D2301uk) router running firmware version 1.00.16. When he tries to access the network from his Tosh C660 Win 7 Home Premium, 64bit laptop the network connection between the laptop & router disconnects after a minute or so. The only way to reestablish a connection is to Disconnect and Connect again in the Wireless Network section of Networking panel. But here's the weird bit. My own Mac Book keeps connected fine without any problems as does my Sony Ericsson X10 phone.
I am using Cisco WLC 2504 for provisioning Wireless Connectivity over my Wired Environment. Have deployed 4 Access Points spanning my entire campus as per Customer Requirements. Created 10 SSIDs for Different Networks. Would like to know if there is any possibility of Broadcasting say a particular SSID XYZ on only two or 3 Access Points and keep broadcast disabled on Others.
integrating the authentication on these SSIDs using Active Directory Domain Credentials.
we use LMS 4.2.2 to manage our Cisco devices. At the moment all devices are managed with snmpv2. I´ve picked one Catalyst 2960-24TT-L Version 12.2(25)SEE3 and configured snmpv3
Here´s the output of show snmp user:
User name: ciscoworks Engine ID: 8000000903000022BD29EF40 storage-type: nonvolatile active Authentication Protocol: MD5 Privacy Protocol: DES Group-name: LMS
Now, in LMS under Admin->Network->Device Credentials Settings-> i created a new credential set "snmpv3" with the correct user/password and following settings: AuthPriv (enabled) Auth Algorithm MD5 Privacy Algorithm DES (because the 2960 12.2(25)SEE3 doesn´t support any other alorithm).
I´ve edited the credentials and assigned the new set to that device. Now to test the snmpv3 credentials i´ve started an Device credential verification job an chose snmpv3 only. But every time the job failes with the error
I would like to ask whether SHA1 signature algorithm is available for FWSM. We use FWSM code version 3.2(22) in our production network where only MD5 signature algorithm is available. There is a need to upgrade to stronger algorithm SHA1. From my experience I know that this is possible on ASA firewalls running on 8.4. codes. Certificates generated on code 8.4. automatically use SHA1 with RSA Encryption.
Is it possible to have Signature algorithm SHA1 on FWSM? If so, in which code version?

We have a Cisco ASA 5520, and we're creating an IPSec VPN to another Cisco ASA. We have multiple VPNs on this firewall.
The issue with the latest one is they require a Public IP as the Local Encryption Network. I've seen this question a couple times while searching but never really a definitive answer.
Would using the "Outside-Network" as the local encryption network, then natting the appropriate IPs be sufficient? Or would this not work at all?
Our Public block is X1.X1.X1.64 - X1.X1.X1.79, our Peer IP X1.X1.X1.66. Would using X1.X1.X1.64/28 as the local encryption network make the connection? Then NAT the needed IPs from our DMZ X2.X2.X2.71 as X1.X1.X1.71 to the client?
Would this work or am I way off the mark (I'm by no means an ASA expert, and an ASDM explanation would work over command line).
Edit: Or would I have to create a new Global Pool made up of Public IPs on a different subnet mask than our actual Public IP address pool. And make that our Local Encrypted Network? I think this might be it, but could it cause IP overlapping? Our webserver is part of this and I'm worried about causing connection issues.
I am support one client for, whom falls under Security scans mandatory for new implementation of ASA 5520 device. The client uses Nessus Scan and the test results are attached. The Nessus scanner hit on 1 Medium vulnerabilities.
Will there be some pause in traffic on formed ether channel interfaces (4500E switch), when i will change the default ether channel load balancing method to src-dst-port (or any other non-default method)?
I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?
I have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong. It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines. Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).
I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?
My computer is a 32 bit, Win7 SP1 with Pentium Dual Core 2.6 Ghz and 2Gb of Ram on a wired network. My wife has a similar system using a wireless network. She can ping my IP Address, but I cannot ping hers. We both have full access to the Internet. We are using the same workgroup, and both computers have file and printer sharing enabled and IPv6 addresses and DNS server addresses selected automatically. The problem appears to be with my computer?
Here are my system stats:

I currently have a wired PC connected to a single Ethernet out DSL modem. I am buying a laptop for my daughter and would like to have a wireless connection for it.
We have a WIRED network and a WIRELESS network at work. I start downloading a big file over the wireless network. I realize that it is slow, half way thru the processs there any way, I can set up the network, such that, DURING the file transfer process, I can switch from wireless to wired, without any disruption?...
my work has a wired network. We currently have no wireless access. Some of us have could use a WiFi connection for our mobile phones, to receive emails etc. I have a spare wireless router at home and would like to know if I can connect it at work, to provide wireless access.
I have a desktop connected to a wireless network. I have a router that will be used to allow open access to the internet without allowing direct access to the existing network, There is no ethernet connection in the area and this router was ree with limited features. So no Wifi as WAN I want to use the desktop's ethernet NIC to obtain a WAN connection. For now I can not setup a VLAN and must configure the two networks as poorly described. Sadly I am not familiar with bridging connections in XP and am unsure about specifics. Also, as a quick test, I bridged the connections and lost wireless connectivity.
I am having a networking trouble within my work network. I began to noticed the network infrequently dropping a few weeks ago. It was then started working good for 2 weeks and then yesterday it dropped 6 times. I purchased and setup a Linksys e4500 thinking that a more expensive router will take care of the job but it seems to be happening again. Today it worked fine for about 4 hours then dropped twice. I tried pinging the router but that did not work
I want to go from my asus rt-n66u router wirelessly to another device that I can plug an ethernet cord from a desktop computer. I work on computers and my workstation cannot be close to my router. Instead of installing a wireless adapter everytime I work on a computer, I want something that I can plug an ethernet cord into that will connect wirelessly to my router. I just want to get an internet connection to my work computers without having to run an ethernet cord across my front room. I have read so much about bridging and access points but can't really figure out what would be best or what my router is capable of. I have tried in WDS mode and couldn't get to work with another router I have and also read it cuts you bandwidth and also forces you to use WEP securit
I'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.
My wireless connection worked fine until I changed to WPA encryption. I'm running Window XP service pack 3, the wireless adapter is Dell Wireless WLAN 1350 and I downloaded the latest driver version 3.40.73.0. Have I got to buy a new wireless card to use WPA encryption?
I have a dell desktop running windows vista that connects to my wireless router with a cable. I have an HP laptop that is running windows 7 that is wireless. When I look at network computers on the dell I get an error message that says that the computer is not accessible. The same thing happens when I try to log onto the desktop from the laptop. When I try to run the network wizard from the desktop, I see see connect to the internet, connect to a wireless router or access point, setup a dialup connection and connect to a workplace.None of them make sense but I tried connect to a wireless router and got a message that said to set it up manually or set up a flash drive, neither of which makes sense. I tried set it up manually and all that happened is the router setup screen opened up.I tried the same thing on the laptop and the setup the network wizard opened a screen that said choose a wireless router or access point to configure, but nothing ever showed up on that screen.
I have a 2 computer wireless network running usb wireless devices connecting to a wireless router for internet. I need to plug a wired device (cctv dvr system) into one of the computers to get it on the internet. Do I use ICS or a bridge of some sort? I am going to be plugging that system into a computer running Windows 7.
I have been having a heck of a time getting my gigabit network working off of either my new router, or 2 older ones. Since my house is wired with cat5 cables, I was thinking about putting an 8port router in my networking box that is tucked away in the corner of the house, and then using my new Dlink 857 router as just an access point in a more optimal location in the house.
My questions are as follows:
Would be slower for either the wireless internet speed or the speed of file transfers between the wired computers?
Would I be able to transfer files both ways from the NAS that would be hard wired to the 8-port router? Is there any benefit/disadvantage to my idea that I have not thought of? I know it is possible, but do I want to do it?
Internet----->Cable Modem --------->Wired Router --------> Xbox/NAS/PS3/Smart Player/Dlink Router set as Access Point
I have two computers sharing files connected by a wired lan via an Ethernet card. Both are using XP home sp2 OS and neither of them had any Internet connection. I wanted to make one of them connect to a wireless printer so I added an Asus USB (wireless) dongle to that machine only. When first used the dongle sprang into life, connected to a wireless router in another part of the building (also mine, but nothing to do with this network) and downloaded a load of MS updates. Whilst an Internet connection was not really needed on that machine I thought 'all well and good', and proceeded to download MS Security Essentials onto that machine only. Once the printer software was installed on that computer it connected normally with the wireless printer and printed-out fine.It was only when I attempted to connect to the other computer via the hard-wired lan that I found that the connection between them was broken.
I am getting ready to move into new digs and wanting to set up my network. Main house cable internet will come in with modum to a dlink router for both wired and wireless. desktop and a magic jack wired into router wireless for ipad and laptop. then run wire to workshop about 100' from house where a second magic jack and desktop will be set up (small biz out of workshop). I am pretty sure that the range of the router for wireless will reach to workshop fine for ipad but if not I will need to put a wireless up there tooext kids have a laptop running windows 7 but kids being kids and having had problems with self control on net in past I want to be able to make sure that I can turn them off from net when needed because
1. I do not want them running me past the data limits imposed by cable company and 2. keep them from sites such as those which got them in trouble in the past (kids are older and bought laptop for selves and pop will not go along with me confiscating it if they abuse internet privileges
I have a laptop running win xp. It was running fine this morning. I then brought it to a Honda dealer. The problem started there ...At first, I got a strong wi-fi signal but not network connection. I tried to repair (by right clicking on wireless network icon on the lower-right corner). The first time it seemed trying to do something but nothing worked. The 2nd time when I tried to run repair, the process hang and the machine could not be rebooted or shut off. I have to hold the power key for a few seconds to turn it off. Now, I am at home using another computer to post this message, which indicates my home lan and my router are working fine. But my laptop still has no connections - neither wired or wireless
