Access Between Computers Over Wifi Network?
Sep 10, 2011
whether it's possible to access information relating to 1 computer, from another machine that has previously connected to the same wifi network? For the first time I've connected my work computer to my home wireless network to work from home. When I return my computer to work, will they be able to see everything I've done on that home network using my personal laptop arous that time? My wifi network has WPA2 and has a password. I imagine the work computer would need some kind of logging software, how can I tell this?

I'm sort of new to networks so I'm not sure if this is even possible but what I'm trying to do is set up a wired network between computers but leave the wifi on the computer as how it connects to the internet. I'm using two computers connected through a lynksys router(not connected to the internet) and ethernet cable, and one of the computers has a wireless card that connects to another router that is connected to the internet. i can set up a network between the two computers but then the one can't connect to the internet(even though it says it is connected the network with internet),

I have a problem with files sharing via wi-fi. I can not share files over the network using wi-fi connections. While the network is the cable connection sharing is available. The network also acts as one computer is connected by a cable to the router and the other via wifi. But if the two computers are working through wifi network does not work. Are there any settings in the router, which can cause blocking calls via wifi?

I usually access my network computers by typing "\ipaddress" in run command. But sometimes this doesn't work so I have to type the computer name to access it. Similarly, sometimes i could not access with name but could access with ip.

I have a client who has asked me to "optimize" their network. They currently have a few shared folders that everyone can see, but what they want is to restrict access to some of the computers on the network.More specific, they don't want the receptionist and the backroom workers to have access to those shared folders while the rest of the employees (the bosses) do have access to those folders. They have 2 computers with Windows 7, 2 computers with Windows XP, and a mac.

Have a server linked to four computers and a laptop for a business and can't seem to access shared files on server from other computers as it keeps asking for username and password to access it. Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.

I'm on a large network in my office and we recieved new computers(dell optiplex 390) I'm trying to access a mysqlexpress database on my machine from another one and I'm not able to even access the computer using \MYCOMPUTER method with the same user/pass as my machine on the one I'm trying to connect from. But still no one in my office can reach my computer.
My av is OfficeScan.
I've tried:
+ Disabling the firewall(windows no other firewall in place).
+ Checking network settings
+ enabling sharing settings
+ allowing anonymous connections via the regestry value
+ yelling at the machine.
+ adding users to the Aministrators group.

Roughly 10 or so computers and 10 or so printers connected to a server 2003 machine with att dal internet. Upgraded to att uverse and because of our program that we use (hotel management software) we have to keep the gateway / ip's all the same. Well for whatever reason, just so happen that our specific info that we have to use, the uverse modem has reserved for its self and we cant use it on there. We hook up a cisco e1000 router and have it act as the gateway so that we can configure our settings the way we need. Get everything going just perfectly fine. Sometime that night, 2 of the computers lose server/networked files access, but still have internet access. They only lose access to shared files, printers, etc... Logging off/on or restarting the pc's fixes the problem. But then every night almost like clockwork around the same time frame, it all happens again. I've changed ip's on the machines, changed settings here and there, but nothing has fixed the problem. The biggest pain is, I cant replicate the problem, I have to waot until that night to know if what I did worked or not. The last thing I tried was changing the lease expire timer in the router from 24 hours to 7 days. I figured I'd give that a try since it seems that its almost 24 hours exactly between errors.

the site has a private wireless network for which I pay a yearly access fee. This gives me a code I can use to gain access each time I connect. We used to be able to have all our family's laptops, etc., connected at the same time using this code, but the site has recently changed the configuration so that we can't do this. Is there any way we can share the connection made by one computer so that we can all access the Internet at the same time? The site is in a remote location that gets poor mobile data coverage and landlines are not an option. The yearly fee is already high, so I can't afford to pay for multiple subscriptions.

I have 2 Windows 7 desktops that are both connected to seperate vonage boxes and those vonage boxes are connected to my D-Link DIR-655 router. That D-Link router is getting its connection from a Comcast router. I am looking to get one of the desktops to share a printer from the other one which has it hard wired via USB cable. When I first set this up I did not have the vonage boxes and the desktops were connected right into the router and everything worked fine. Now that the vonage boxes are in place it is a mess. I can get internet fine on both machines, but no file/printer sharing. I have followed all the steps to setup the correct workgroup and file and printer sharing options on both windows 7 machines but they cannot see each other at all. My feeling is that now that the vonage boxes are there that instead of the desktops looking at the D-Link router for its sharing option they are looking at the vonage boxes and that is why they cant be seen. Does this make sense? Is there a firewall on the vonage boxes stopping these two desktops from seeing each other? Do I have to change something on the D-Link router options for it to give access to the vonage boxes for these 2 machines to see each other for printer/file sharing?

we have been having problems with our wireless internet connection for a while now and have even changed provider without success.
What happens is that all our computers lose the internet connection from one moment to the next while the signal strength remains unchanged. when you try to sign back into the home network it is basically impossible. When rebooting the BT router it works, sometimes for a few moments only sometimes it lasts.I am wondering if the reason is that the computers are losing their ip address or has it something to do with the security key?

I have a Mac, and my wife has a PC running Windows 7. Since we moved into our new house, our Dlink DIR-601 does not seem to want to send Wi-Fi to both computers at the same time. One of the computers always seems to lag or not have internet connection at all. The Mac also seems to work better and more often than the PC when both are trying to access wi-fi.
I have messed with the channel settings, security, and most other typical settings on the router to no avail. Is there a setting I'm missing or should I enable certain settings that will allow both computers to have the same signal strength and reliability.

But as soon as I get home it's stuck on 'acquiring network address'. The weird thing is my kindle does the same thing as does my friends iphones & ipads. I've tried switching off the other others computers connections & trying to connect. Resetting the router

I think I know what I want, but I just wanted to check before I splashed the cash and made the wrong choiceI have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

I have a seemingly simple desire: to achieve acceptable wifi coverage of my entire house and the ability to use my wireless devices in multiple locations within that house. To achieve this aim I have tried a variety of hardware combinations over the last two months but am now at the point where I'm almost ready to abandon the project. In my current setup I have:Downstairs: A new & working Wireless Router (TP-Link TD-W8961ND) from which I can connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #1. DHCP = On.Upstairs: A new & working Access Point (TP-Link TL-WA801ND).The AP is connected by a physical cable to the downstairs router. The AP is in "Access Point Mode" with the same SSID and security settings as the router.
From the AP I can also connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #11. DHCP = Off.Clearly therefore, parts of my setup are correct and complete. However, I cannot roam between these two devices. Once a device is connected to one of these devices it cannot connect to the other. When downstairs, if I connect any device (iPad, iPhone, Win7 ThinkPad, WinXP Netbook) to the router's Wifi network, it connects to the router as expected and is fine.
When upstairs, it connects to the second router but cannot get to the internet (it gets an IP address beginning with 169.). It reports a "Strong" connection but simply cannot establish a useful connection with the world outside the house. The same is true if I take a machine that is successfully connected to the upstairs network and move downstairs.Have you successfully setup a wifi network with a TP-Link router and a TP-Link Access Point so that roaming works? If so, what's the secret?! Should I use the "Bridge with AP" mode for the AP?

Currently I have a small home network. Two desktops are connected to the router, which is wire-connected to the Time Warner modem. The desktops share folders, and there is a shared printer. Our laptop also accesses the network wirelessly. Yes, the network has a password.
We are students, and our school is installing free wi-fi in our building. I am only too happy to drop Time Warner. How can I maintain my current file sharing and printer sharing functionality without sharing with the entire WiFi network? Is there some way to allow my current router to access the WiFi and still use it for my home network?
