Laptop Cannot Access Home Wireless - Can Access Elsewhere And Other Computers Are On It
Jul 27, 2011
I have a new laptop that cannot access my home wireless. There are 3 other computers that can access it so I know it's working. When I work away the new laptop can access other wireless connections. But as soon as I get home it's stuck on 'acquiring network address'. The weird thing is my kindle does the same thing as does my friends iphones & ipads. They all connect wireless no problems elsewhere but cannot at my house.
I've tried switching off the other others computers connections & trying to connect. Resetting the router
I have a CISCO Linksys WRT610N router on my home network which consists of the following 4 computers; Windows Small Business Server 2003, one Windows 7 Ultimate and two Windows XP Professional. How to configure a VPN on the WRT610N router that would allow me to access all of the computers on my home network over the Internet using the "Remote Desktop Connection" component.
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router that I have installed dd-wrt on.My household is overloaded with wireless devices, and living in a home of 6, speeds for everyone seem to slow down drastically later at night when everyone is simultaneously connected and streaming media -- whether it be Netflix, YouTube, etc.. My typical speed wired to the router with no other connections is around 25 mb/s down and 1-2 mb/s up.Obviously, it's going to slow to a crawl when we have an iPad, 3 iPod touches, an iPhone, a Wii (playing Netflix) and 4 PCs all connected simultaneously. What I need to do is give my personal computer priority and throttle all other devices. So that I myself will have decent speeds while hampering all of the other household connections. I rely on those speeds for my job and that should have priority over my brother watching music videos on YouTube.
I am using WRT54G, I have 3 pcs connected to this router, some wired, some wireless.I need to monitor from my PC what my kids are doing on their PCs, including website visited, chat, email etc. Which software to use, or do I need to buy additional hardware?I have downloaded a application, however, it needs hub or switches on top of router. And my kids r connected by wireless and if I ask them to change to wired connection, they may not like it.
My home desk top is set up with D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Router. I have no problems accessing the internet on my desk top computer. I am trying to access my home wireless network through my HP laptop computer. The wireless network status is Limited or no Connectivity. I've tried the "repair" button with no resolution. The wireless connection is set to automatic.
I want share my adsl internet connection to my galaxy tab and use labtop wirless as a access point. in toturials there is settings in wirless newworks tab in wirless propertice, but I cant found this tab. I installed lastest Wirless driver update and start WLAN autoconfige service. also I cant found microsoft virtual wifi in network connetions.
I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.
Stats on Laptop: Toshiba A215-S4747 Atheros AR5007EG
All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver
Ping successful on: 192.168.1.11 (the laptop's IP address) localhost
the site has a private wireless network for which I pay a yearly access fee. This gives me a code I can use to gain access each time I connect. We used to be able to have all our family's laptops, etc., connected at the same time using this code, but the site has recently changed the configuration so that we can't do this. Is there any way we can share the connection made by one computer so that we can all access the Internet at the same time? The site is in a remote location that gets poor mobile data coverage and landlines are not an option. The yearly fee is already high, so I can't afford to pay for multiple subscriptions.
Recently installed an E4200 router to an MacPro following the setup as directed by Cisco Connection (connect Ethernet to router and then computer to router.) The wireless and the hard-wire connectivity works fine with accessing the internet. However, we have lost the ability to connect to other computers on our LAN via the Shared folder connection. This is usually accessed via the Sidebar (see image)
However with the E4200 in the mix, all we see is the router per its "given name" (what it was named on installation). I have tried to follow the advice mentioned in other threads, such as "Can't access network shares with E3000" and nothing worked-- and those threads seemed to apply to Windows and PCs anyway.
I have a linksys wrvs4400n router on which:The wireless computers are connected to the home network (v lan 1)Port 1 is connected to the home network (v lan 1)Port 2 is connected to the office network (v lan 2)And the printers are connected to port 3.Now I'd like to setup the router in such a way that all computers have access to the printers (port 3), but I don't know what v lan settings I have to use on port 3, or if it is even possible...
The facility provides WiFi access. I'd like to configure his router to access the facility's WiFi, as WAN access to the internet while providing DHCP service to the wired ports. The idea is to use the 4 wired ports to provide inter-connectivity to each other and internet access via the router's wireless connection via wireless for internet access by the wired client machines.I'd also like to firewall the wired devices from access by other users of the facility Wireless network. Can I do that? How do I configure the wireless aspect of their Belkin Share 300N? What other settings do I have to set.
I have a WRT54G that has worked fine for years, with some PCs hooked up with Ethernet and various other devices connected wirelessly. I came home this afternoon and nothing going through the router could connect to the internet. I've made no changes to anything recently.
I did troubleshooting with Comcast, and we determined that when their modem was hooked up directly to my computer then that computer could connect to the net. Problem solved as far as they are concerned--my router is busted. But I can still connect to the router, and enter its admin screen, and everything looks fine there. The computers on the router can all see each other. So the router is working.
Once I hooked it back up to the modem my computers all lost their internet, but the router does get an IP successfully from Comcast. And it even assigns IPs to my computers that are hooked up to it. It's just that for some reason they still cannot get past the router.I used the ping function in the router admin site and the router pinged Google no problem. My PCs can ping the router without difficulty. But the computers cannot ping Google.
I've tried every combination of power cycles and reboots you can name. I've tried duplicating the MAC address of the PC that connected to the internet onto my router. None of it has made any difference.
I was getting the standard "Network Path Was Not Found" error that I would get from time to time if I tried to access the drive before my network connection was solid on my computer. So I tried using the Easy Search Utility to "reconnect" to the drive. I tried the mapping feature and when I asked to connect, it asked for a username and password (which I don't remember it asking for in the past), so I typed in the username and password that I use to connect to the drive when doing maintenance and I tried the username and password I use to connect to the drive when connecting remotely through DynamicDNS. Both ended up giving me an error that it couldn't connect.
NOW when I try to use the old mapped reference to connect to it, I get the following error... "Z: refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure the disk is properly inserted...."
I'm currently having troubles using my XP laptop (although I have another XP that is still connecting just fine)One strange thing to note... while I was pecking at buttons trying to figure out what it could be, I started using the Wireless Network Setup Wizard and the first option it gave me was to Add Computers to the Network FSHGuest... which is a hospital network I was using. I didn't complete the wizard. Not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with my problem, but I thought it was interesting.and I checked the wireless workgroup and it is still set to the same group that all my computers are. Can you tell I'm not terrible proficient at network stuff?
I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
I usually access my network computers by typing "\ipaddress" in run command. But sometimes this doesn't work so I have to type the computer name to access it. Similarly, sometimes i could not access with name but could access with ip.
I cant seem to access a webpage. I have 2 computer hooked up to a router and the router to a cable modem. One computer works fine and the other all of the sudden stopped being able to access the web. It says I have a connection but internet explorer and firefox can pull anything up. On bottom right it says local area connection is connected but another one says local are connection4 network cable unplugged. all cables are fine and network adapter says its working properly
My home LAN supports 3 Chinese students who spend many hours each day watching movies through either Baidu or QQ. Both these operations seem offer streaming video but in a P-2-P mode. As a result typical daily uploads are running at greater than 6GB. My ISP daily upload limit is 1750 MB; after that I am throttled to 25% of the service I am paying for.I have tried and failed to explain to the students the impact this is having on me. I would like therefore to be able to prevent P2P uploads by suitable settings on my router. Is this possible?
can view other computers but i cannot access them. i have 2 vista machines one xp and one windows 7. ive tried different hubs, switches and routers. wired and wireless.
Computer A: Vista x64 Home - connected to router by LAN<br><br> Computer B: Windows XP Home - connected to router wirelessly<br><br>
Both of these computers are connected to my router's network without problems. Computer B cannot access the internet through the network (but, neither has the multitude of other computers who connect to our network wirelessly)<br><br> Computer A can see Computer B in the Network Places, but attempting to access gives the error "network path not found".
Computer B can only see itself under Workgroup computers.<br><br> I have enabled NETBios on both machines.<br> Both machines are in the same Workgroup.<br> Both machines have a shared folder on the desktop with permissions set to everyone.<br> Both machines not only have firewalls disabled, but I have uninstalled them completely.<br>
BTW the halls are next to each other. The house and the 3 halls are in the vicinity however not attached together(i.e. wall to wall). The distance between the house and the first hall is approx 1 road width distance.ISP is Virgin and the internet was installed this year hence has the latest Virgin Home Hub.I am aware that i probably require 3 wireless access points (1 for each hall). The first wireless access point will need to be connected with a RJ-45 cable running from Home Hub. Can i connect the Wireless access points up together or do they all need to come from the ADSL hub?I am not sure what Wireless access points would be best and how to go about connecting this all up
I have few computers behind the wireless router. All the computers have static private addresses 198.168.1.xxx. The issue is that when I try to access any computer e.g to use FTP. From outside since I can only use the main WAN IP address when I use FTP I can only connect to one computer basically the one running FTP service on port 21. I can access the wireless router and if necessary can do the port assignments. My question is that if multiple computers are running FTP services behind the router how can I connect to each one of them.
whether it's possible to access information relating to 1 computer, from another machine that has previously connected to the same wifi network? For the first time I've connected my work computer to my home wireless network to work from home. When I return my computer to work, will they be able to see everything I've done on that home network using my personal laptop arous that time? My wifi network has WPA2 and has a password. I imagine the work computer would need some kind of logging software, how can I tell this?
I understand we cannot view computers that in different workgroup though in the same network. But when I try to add printer it lists even those local printers that is attached and shared in different workgroup.
Let me start off by saying both computers are running Windows 7 Pro x64, both have file and printer sharing turned on, use 128-bit encryption, password protected sharing is off and Windows manages homegroup connections.
Computer A cannot access its own or others shared network folders through the network icon on the desktop, I get the message "Windows cannot access \Computer-AMy Documents" and if I try to access Computer B it gives me "Windows cannot access \Computer-B". Computer B can access Computer A through the network with no problems. The folders have had the permissions set to Everyone.
I will like to know that i have 3 computer in a router (tplink broadband router n-series) network which has internet access but i don't want to access internet in other 2 computer how can i do that?
I have a wireless OS X 10.7.1 Mac a Windows 7 laptop, also wireless and one Windows 7 desktop, also wireless but close enough to my wireless modem that it can be hard lined in. If I use the "bridging" option in the modem settings, which I assume requires I enter the Mac address all devices:1. do I need to include my network printer?2. can I still access the internet from all computers?3. if I can access the internet, do I need to do so with everything going thru one computer or can they all connect independently?
I've been using "Linksys by Cisco Wireless-N Home ADSL2+ Modem Router WAG120N". I can restrict internet access to only 8 computers using their Mac adresses but there are no ore entry fields for Mac adress than 8. What shall I do when I need to block internet access to more than 8 computers say 20 computers on wired LAN? I don't like the option blocking the internet access via IP address. I found they are not that effective as the option Mac adress
One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....
