Allow Access To Wifi Network

Apr 11, 2011

I am planning to have a friend visit and she will use her laptop with my wifi network. Is there any threat to my network if by chance she has a virus or other malware on her computer? I assume the only danger would be if I transfer files from her computer, but I just want to confirm that.

Access Between Computers Over Wifi Network?

Sep 10, 2011

whether it's possible to access information relating to 1 computer, from another machine that has previously connected to the same wifi network? For the first time I've connected my work computer to my home wireless network to work from home. When I return my computer to work, will they be able to see everything I've done on that home network using my personal laptop arous that time? My wifi network has WPA2 and has a password. I imagine the work computer would need some kind of logging software, how can I tell this?

Wifi Network Access Point With Switch?

Dec 28, 2011

I think I know what I want, but I just wanted to check before I splashed the cash and made the wrong choiceI have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

Cannot Roam Between Wifi Router And Access Point On Same Network

Jan 5, 2012

I have a seemingly simple desire: to achieve acceptable wifi coverage of my entire house and the ability to use my wireless devices in multiple locations within that house. To achieve this aim I have tried a variety of hardware combinations over the last two months but am now at the point where I'm almost ready to abandon the project. In my current setup I have:Downstairs: A new & working Wireless Router (TP-Link TD-W8961ND) from which I can connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #1. DHCP = On.Upstairs: A new & working Access Point (TP-Link TL-WA801ND).The AP is connected by a physical cable to the downstairs router. The AP is in "Access Point Mode" with the same SSID and security settings as the router.

From the AP I can also connect to (1) the internet, and (2) the internal network devices (NAS, printer, and network shares). Broadcasting on channel #11. DHCP = Off.Clearly therefore, parts of my setup are correct and complete. However, I cannot roam between these two devices. Once a device is connected to one of these devices it cannot connect to the other. When downstairs, if I connect any device (iPad, iPhone, Win7 ThinkPad, WinXP Netbook) to the router's Wifi network, it connects to the router as expected and is fine.

When upstairs, it connects to the second router but cannot get to the internet (it gets an IP address beginning with 169.). It reports a "Strong" connection but simply cannot establish a useful connection with the world outside the house. The same is true if I take a machine that is successfully connected to the upstairs network and move downstairs.Have you successfully setup a wifi network with a TP-Link router and a TP-Link Access Point so that roaming works? If so, what's the secret?! Should I use the "Bridge with AP" mode for the AP?

Allow Current Router To Access The Wifi And Use It For Home Network?

Aug 4, 2011

Currently I have a small home network. Two desktops are connected to the router, which is wire-connected to the Time Warner modem. The desktops share folders, and there is a shared printer. Our laptop also accesses the network wirelessly. Yes, the network has a password.

We are students, and our school is installing free wi-fi in our building. I am only too happy to drop Time Warner. How can I maintain my current file sharing and printer sharing functionality without sharing with the entire WiFi network? Is there some way to allow my current router to access the WiFi and still use it for my home network?

Home Network :: Setting Up Wifi With Multiple Access Points?

Jan 27, 2012

Well this process is self explanatory, setting up the network is easy but im running into trouble with my wireless devices connecting to the strongest signalIm not exactly sure if there is a fix for this yet or if they have not made a protocol to fix it. I have a big house with solid wall in which i have setup 3 wifi's. 1st Modem/wifi Router, 2nd Wifi access point, 3rd wifi access point. Now the problem im having is moving between the access points my devices such as my ipad are changing from one access point to the next whilst moving throughout the house (that is until it loses the first signal I believe or you turn your ipad wifi off/on so it reconnects back to the strongest/closest access point).

Lost Internet Access / But Stay Connected To Wifi Network?

Jun 30, 2012

Over the past few days I've been having a problem with my internet connection.

I connect to my home wifi network and will have excellent signal strength, but after about 20 minutes or so, I will lose internet access, but will stay connected to my wifi network. If I join my neighbor's wifi network I will have the same issue.I will connect to a network, and while still connected, I will suddenly lose internet access (signal strength will remain the same). Switching networks doesn't correct the problem.

When I lose internet, I can disconnect from the network and reconnect mere seconds later and will have the internet access back again.I have reset the modem/router and my computer numerous times but the problem does not go away.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using Wrt300 To Access Another Wifi Network?

Mar 21, 2013

First the situation, Landlord provides a wireless network to us tennants as well as Sat. TV.  So we are not allowed to have cable internet installed and DSL in not available in my area. Due to the positioning of my apt, I can access the 2.4 signal off his router with 2 bars and cannot accessthe 5ghz at all. I even offered to pay for a more powerful router with extended range, but he refused saying he was already familiar with the one he has.   A friend came over with a router with antenna's hooke into his nic card  that was able to get 3 bars on the 5ghz and full 5 bars on the 2.4, by far blowing away the the signal I recieved using USB adaptors and pci cards I had been trying.  In my possession, I have a WRT 300N that  I had picked up as someones birthday gift, then I had to get another gift when they recieved another wireless router.  I kept it  in my possession to hook up NAS and my printer, but would I be able to adapt the wireless portion to recieve signal from the current wireless and connect my computer through it?

Tp-link 150mbps Wireless :: Tl-wr741nd Lan Wifi Network / Can't Access Other Pcs

Feb 7, 2013

Region : Others
Model : TL-WR741ND
Hardware Version : V4.20.0
Firmware Version : 3.12.11

As you can see it's a simple network, I mostly use the network to share itunes library from PC CENTRAL to the other pcs, play games like counter strike and the like, and of course share the internet connection and copy files from one to another. I have to puntualize that all the computers are in the same room.Last week my mom bought a Toshiba Satellite and I bought a TP-LINK TL-WR741ND so she can work in her room (which is pretty far if I want to make a wire connection), so I installed the WiFi but now this is how my network looks like:> The case is that:

a) I can't access my toshiba from any other computer, but the toshiba can access any other using \192.168.1.# command.

b) The PC Central's iTunes library can be played in toshiba's itunes.

c) I can't make an HomeGroup between the two pcs running w7. Actually the only one pc I want to be working in LAN with the toshiba is PC Central, but as I said earlier, PC Central can't access toshiba.

The settings in the TL-WR740N are: WAN working as Dynamic IP (got IP 192.168.1.46 submask 255.255.255.0 and gateway empty), lan 192.168.0.1, (I can't make it to be 192.168.1.#, I think that's impossible cause it always gives me an error 5008). MAC filtering and that's the only thing I changed from default settings.

Wifi Access Points With User Access Control?

We have a small office and already have a firewall in place that uses content filtering. I am looking for a low cost wireless access point that I can place behind my firewall that will allow me to control access by a username and password list, not just the passkey.

Does this exist without having to go to an Aruba or Ruckus type enterprise WIFI product?

D-link Dcs Network Camera :: Netgear Cgd24n - 942l Just Won't Connect To Wifi Network

Sep 2, 2012

I seem to be struggling to connect more than 4 cameras to my (ISP-supplied) modem/router by Netgear CGD24N via WPS. I'm on my 5th camera now (already have 3x 930L and 1x 942L) but the newest 942L just won't connect to the network at the moment and there's definitely no faults here as I swapped cameras today at the local retailer (and got an A3 942L!).I've even tried connecting the camera to my wireless extender (Netgear WN3000RP) but no luck there.

So far it has only worked twice for short periods of time (enough for me to configure the cameras) but since then I can't actually get it working. I've got a couple of spare wireless routers lying around too and should be receiving a DIR-600 soon (from the Netgear promotion in Australia) which could be useful?
