Add ASUS N53 Wireless Router To Netgear Switch?

Feb 1, 2013

I recently bought a Netgear switch in order to hook up to wired PCs to my modem. I also have a ASUS n53 wireless router that I am trying to connect to the switch. The problem is I can't seem to get internet access to the wireless router I have tried setting it up as an access point, I have tried disabling the DHCP on it.

ASUS RT-N66U Router - Network Switch

Aug 8, 2012

So my setup is this.

Modem > Router (ASUS RT-N66U) > Printer, Main Rig, Server, Laptop

I switch the ports between my laptop and PS3 whenever I go to my room, but now that I'm setting up another system downstairs, I'll need more Ethernet ports. Everything is running on a Gigabit network, and I'd like to keep it that way. What I'm thinking is adding this:

[URL]

Do I set it up like this? Modem > Router > Switch > Other Stuff. I'm guessing I only connect one port on my router to the switch, but can I use the other 3 ports on the router or do I have to use the ports on the switch? If what I am thinking is correct, any better recommendation for a switch? I'd prefer a square-rack mount- ish type so I can have my modem and router on top of it.

Run An Asus RT-N56u Behind A Netgear CG3000?

Jun 23, 2012

I have had the Asus working with a netgear CVG824G(in unison, not bridged) for some time with IP cam & usb media, but no DNS access as running through the netgear gateway. I just upgraded to Optus premium speed pack & received a netgear CG3000 & now can't find the Asus when plugged into CG3000 ethernet port. I have tried to plug it in the same as it was so I could access the asus routers page & change settings to bridge but find nothing. When I try to connect wirelessly to it, the security key is not accepted. Have tried original key and 'dmin'' all with no use. I want it to run bridged to make use of the DNS service with IP cam & attached media

Using Netgear Gigabit Ethernet Switch Instead Of Router?

Jan 7, 2011

So my old router needed replacement and my dad bought a Netgear gigabit ethernet switch instead of a router. It said that it gets 1Gbps when I look inside the local area connection speed. The problem was we tried to use it like a router but only 2 computers could connect to the internet at one time but it was indeed noticeably faster when it came to video streaming speed. We since returned it and bought a Netgear N600 router that says the speed is 300mbps but like my old router it shows the speed is actually 100mbps and the streaming is good for the most part but every now and then slows down. Would using the ethernet switch with our new router work with streaming speeds and connection stability and of course let more computers connect and also use the routers wireless.

Using Netgear WGR614 Router As Switch? (Wi-Fi Access)

Jan 9, 2012

I have a router TP-Link (without wireless) connected in my modem wich have this subnet : 192.168.0.*, that work fine. But I need a wireless connection too, my wireless router had this ip given by the TP-Link router: 192.168.0.13.

I have a NETGEAR WIRELESS-G ROUTER WGR614 which gain 192.168.0.13 but I need that gives ip's in the same subnet that TP link router. If the person connect to my wi-fi it should receive an ip like 192.168.0.*, I already try to disable the DHCP server in the NETGEAR but it's not working too. How can I do that ?

Asus RT N16 - Would Fast Ethernet Switch Slow Down Gigabit Networking

Nov 4, 2011

I have setup an Asus RT n16 with 3 computers that support gigabit ethernet and a media server on one floor. On the other floor I have set up a fast ethernet switch (connected to my asus router) which is connected to several fast ethernet enabled computers.

Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?

Worse Signal On ASUS RT-N66U Than ASUS E1000

Oct 5, 2012

I recently moved into a larger 2 story house, and for the first few months I was using a Linksys E1000 I've had for about 2 years now. It's a fine single band router, but the people upstairs and the xbox/PS3 in the living room didnt have the strongest connection.

I shopped around and finally got a ASUS RT-N66U for a really good, strong dual band router that would supposedly give better range and performance than my old E1000.

Unfortunately, since I got it everyone is having issues they never had before, namely:Signal dropping all around the house and having to search for the network much slower performance than before the xbox/PS3 cant hold a stable connection even for a few minutes now, when before you could watch Netflix HD programs easily

I've upgraded the Firmware to 3.0.0.3.178 since I heard earlier firmwares had issues, but other than that and opening my ports for qTorrent it is relatively stock settings.

Asus Wireless Router - No Password To Protect Internet?

The computer which all the Internet setting are on went away for repair. When the man brought it back after backing up the computer I asked him to put the password back on the Internet. This he has done. We entered the new passwords on our iPhones and they connected and worked no problem. Then we tried to do it with our laptops but they won't connect. Phoned the bloke back he said we had to get the laptops to forget all the old settings for the router and it would on take five minutes but he never told us how to do it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Asus Infinity Wi-Fi Connects To WRT54G

Jul 18, 2012

I have a WRT54G working throughout our home. It has 4 hardwired ethernet connections, and several wireless connections working without any issues. Currently my Droid phone, iPad tablet and 2 laptops connect and get through to the internet via wireless connection.

Today I purchased a new TF700T Asus Infinity Tablet.  I'm able to get it to connect to the router, see the network, and the router can see the Infinity Tablet (assigns an IP address), but no internet access.

what tools I can use to see where the traffic from the tablet is being blocked.  The log on the router doesn't show me anything. I'm assuming there's a port or ports being blocked by the router, but no idea which ones.

Already tried hard resets and a firmware upgrade to no avail.  In fact the latest firmware upgrade (4.21.5) hosed the entire network so I reverted back to 4.21.1

Using Netgear 814v2 As A Switch?

May 3, 2011

I have an old, old Netgear 814v2 that I'd like to use as a switch to, in effect, extend my wireless range and allow other old hardware that is NOT WPA-capable to connect to my network. From what I've read, it ought to be fairly easy: disable DHCP on the Netgear, and connect the Netgear to the router via a LAN port not the WAN port. This should, I gather, convert the former router to a simple switch.Having done this: if I connect to the Netgear-turned-switch via a LAN port (cable) everything works fine (the computer gets valid IP's, subnet mask, DHCP server and DNS server IPs). Great! It's a switch! But if I connect via wireless it gets an oddball IP address out of range of the normal IP's for a client computer, and no default Gateway or DNS server IP's. Which is to say, hardwired network connection through the Netgear-turned-switch works fine; wireless works not at all.Why would the Netgear-turned-switch fail to pass through for wireless, and work just fine for wired? What am I missing?(For those who are concerned, if I get this to work, I'll provide security on the Netgear by specifying MAC addresses that can connect.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 / Remote Desktop Access With Mac And Asus Transformer Prime?

I have an E2000 router with the most current firmware. I have a Sony VAio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,a Macbook with 10.6.8, and a new Asus Transformer Prime with ICS.My work desktop is a Dell Optiplex 380 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. I frequently work from home and have no issues remoting into to my work PC from by Sony laptop via VPN and RDP.However I have never been able to connect successfully to my work PC with my Macbook(using Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 for Mac OS) or Asus tablet(using WYSE Pocket Cloud RDP app for Android). I can however connect to the VPN itself on the Macbook and tablet without issue same as my Windows laptop. The other interesting part is I can connect via RDP when I am connected to a Mi-Fi 3g hotspot. So it is definitely something in the my Linksys E2000 blocking the connection for some reason. I have even set Port forwarding of 3389 with the ip's of both the Macbook and Asus tablet.I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the router with the same outcome. I cannot ping my work pc from either device as well.In addition the firewall on my work PC is completely disabled and all services related to Remote desktop access are enabled and running.

Mapping Network Drive On Netgear Switch?

Aug 24, 2012

I am running XP Professional 32 bit SP3 on a Dell workstation.I am in a serviced office with internet connection via single ethernet port. This is set up as a VLAN for which I have 4 assigned IP addresses.I am using a Netgear GS605v4 switch to create a small network on my side of the port. Hooked to this is the workstation, the mybook live, and a laptop. All 3 connected components are assigned their IP addresses by DHCP. Both the workstation and the laptop can see the internet without difficulty. The networking of the components is another matter. Focusing on the workstation for the moment:On the workstation, I can ping the mybook. I have always been able to see its upnp logo in My Network Places, and double clicking always takes me to the web browser based dashboard where I can set up the device. I was initially able to see the public folder in My Network Places too, and could map a drive to this in an Explorer window. Typically after some time, the mapping would be lost (even without re-booting the machine), but I would be able to delete the connection and re-map it. After several attempts at this I could no longer map the drive or see the public folder in My Network Places anymore. After much internet searching and playing with lots of the suggested fixes (checking all required services available, matching user names between XP and the drive, playing with 'net view' etc) I was finally able to see and map the public folder yesterday by playing with the 'enable netbios' function in network connections (currently set to 'enable' from 'default' though this had not made any difference previously). I could see the drive in 'net view' though no master browser was listed, and once again map to the public folder, and access files on it.On turning on the workstation this morning I find that the mapping has again been lost. This time net view is back to reporting a system 53 error. I can ping the drive and use the dashboard, and I can see the public folder in My Network Places, but clicking it or mapping to it results in the usual 'network path not found' errors. The laptop is running Windows 7 and has not lost its mapping overnight, and can still access the public files.

Netgear JGS524 - 24 Port GB Switch For Home

Oct 24, 2012

I need to upgrade my switch to something that has 24 ports. This is for home, simply to sling media around the house, etc. So 3-4 computers, boxes, AVR's, HTPC's, blah blah blah - just the usual stuff.

I was looking at the Trendnet TED-S24DG and the Netgear JGS524 (both are under a couple of hundred bucks). The cheaper the better to a degree - rack mount is preferrable. Both are unmanaged. Jumbo frames?

I need to buy a new router for my network (using DIR-655 for last 4-5 yrs). Would like to move to a dual band product. As I live in Canada and would like to purchase VPN to rid the geo tagging and enjoy US media content. I plan to buy a wifi router that supports VPN to accomplish my goal.

So, from modem, to router, then to a 24GB port switch, devices include 3 wired computers, tvs, boxes, players, blah blah blah, etc.
Placement of the router is in my basement (has to be as this is where all my network/modem/server rack). I plan to also purchase an AP and place it on the 2nd floor of my home (2200sq ft) for coverage in the house.

Question is, once I add the VPN to get US content, there will be times when I want my own PC to NOT be on the US VPN.So, based on the above which dual band router under $130 and how much for the AP? And how do I setup it up so that my personal PC and be on and off the VPN?

Right now I can get a E4200v2 refurb for 60 bucks from NC$X? I was looking at Asus N66, but perhaps its too much for my needs?

Netgear FS726T Switch And SMC Cable Modem Connection?

Jan 27, 2012

I am relatively good at installing and troubleshooting smaller sized networks... I am having trouble with one of my customer's networks and I think I have the problem narrowed down. r issues.I have a customer with a FS726T switch and ~20 computers connected to this switch running DHCP assigned addresses. The switch is assigning addresses in the 10.0.0.xx rangehe customer currently has an old T1 line coming into a Cisco router, which then directs traffic to port 20 on the switch. The problem is, we are replacing the old T1 line with a newer 50mbps cable connection. The cable company pre-configured their router with a static IP address the 68.116.xx.xx range. The Subnet is also different than the Netgear's subnet. I would like to keep the old T1 connection in place. I believe they have data that needs to go to their mainframe/backbone server at corporate.

I cannot log in to the cable modem. IT is an SMC SMCD3G with a staic IP. I tried changing my PC's IP address to the same gateway but cannot get into the cable company's modem, even using a static IP with the same gateway as the modem's gateway address. I don't want to reset the modem/router and lose the cable company's settings.I am pretty sure for the devices to communicate, the following has to be true?:1) Cable modem and FS726T must be on the same 10.0.0.xx IP range?2) Cable modem and FS726T must be on the same 255.255.255.0 subnet mask?

Cisco WAN :: Interface Netgear Smart Switch To 881 LAN Port

Dec 16, 2012

we have 100 Cisco 881 routers in our network and they all work fine to Linksys, 3Com, etc switches.  The problem we have encountered is interfacing to Netgear switches.  Netgear switches use autosensing on their ports and it does not seem to be compatible with MDIX autosensing on the Cisco 881 4 port LAN hub that is standard on the 881 router. Would a cross over cable resolve the problem?  Since both run autosensing MDIX they never synch - so likely a cross over would not do much.  I see this with all types of Netgear smartswitches.  If you put a small switch between the Netgear switch and the 881 Cisco router everything works fine except for getting port 9000 traffic through.
