The network may no longer be in range. refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I refresh the networks and it still shows the network ive been trying to connect to then i retry and same message pops up. I can connect to other networks fine but not my home wifi. View 9 Replies View RelatedI use a Dell 2010 laptop. I have consistently been able to use wifi. On 1 Jan I moved into a new apartment shared with a friend. My friend allows me to use the wifi by sharing the password. My friend's computer is a MacBook. But I cannot access wifi! Why is that? I am able to see the available connections and to see the one that my friend is using. But I am unable to access it. I tried manually adding the new wifi network. It shows up with "limited access" -- it does not enable use of internet.

Until 2 to days ago, my brother told me that he can't conlnect to the wi-fi. I said that its working just fine and told him to just reset his phone. And then, my sister also told me that she can't connect too. I checked their devices like iPhone 4S and iTouch and it says "Unable to join the network....... Also phones of my friends can't connect also. It was just working fine. I haven't changed anything on the router's configuration. I already reset the router, unplug then plug it and its still not working. The router is connected to my laptop and I can still browse the internet. Its the wireless connection that is not.

Laptop A ----- Laptop B ----- Laptop CI created an adhoc connection in laptop A with: Essid: 'ad_hoc', IP address: 10.42.43.1, Subnet: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 0.0.0.0, Now the laptops B and C can see the wireless connection 'ad_hoc' and I can connect to them after setting IP 10.42.43.1 and 10.42.43.2 respectively. So, I created the adhoc connection between 3 laptops. Now, I wanted to check the bandwidth between the different paths. The tool iperf was what I used for TCP bandwidth calculation. The bandwidth between A and B was around 4.5 Mbps , between A and C was around 4.0 Mbps but the bandwidth between B and C (B being server) was 677 kbps whereas C being server was 3.99. I don't understand how can the bandwidth drop so high when B was made the server. The system adapters are identical.

There is NO WPA2 etc security or password on the network.I've checked, double-checked and quadruple-checked the MAC addresses of both laptops (using "ipconfig /all") and they're both right. I entered them correctly and I've quadruple-checked that I've checked "PERMIT" instead of "PREVENT". The funny thing is that I also have a Samsung Galaxy SII and that connected right to the router even WITH MAC address filtering on. It was unbothered the entire time I was enabling and disabling things. It kept streaming web radio the entire time.
One of my laptops is set to use Windows to configure my wireless networks and one uses Intel ProSet/Wireless to manage connections.Neither one can connect when MAC filtering is on... but my phone connects just fine.where someone asks this question ends up in people arguing about why MAC filtering is worthless or perfectly valid or whatever and the anti-MAC filtering person telling the asker to get some "real" security and stop wasting their time.
My wife has a little Dell Mini running Windows 7 Starter. It connects to the network but gets a message that it cannot connect to the internet. Other laptops on the network CAN connect. This issue is new, the laptop has been fine up until a few days ago.
Per a separate thread, I went to the command prompt to try to run the ipconfig all but it comes up as user/owner and I don't know how to get to admin mode. Also, the proxy option is unchecked.
My desktop wont connect to the internet but my laptops will? This has never happened before. I have tried resetting the modem and router by unplugging them and then plugging them back in, with no results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new Dell laptop (Inspiron N5110) and have Windows 7 installed on it. Things happened when my laptop get viruses and I have to re-install everything all over again. After successfully installing Windows, I installed the drivers for my laptop.
The problem is:
I have an internet connection in my house: wired and wireless.
I can connect the wifi zone from my laptop normally. It's ok. But when i plugged in the DSL Cable, the internet connection is always disconnect and then auto-connect again and again :(
The map of internet connection in my house: ISP -> Modem -> Wifi Router -> Wired + Wireless
I have verified that I am set to auto connect however my wireless does not do so upon start. I have to do so manually each time I use my computer. This is a new problem since installing the newest driver update because I could not connect at all or randomly. The update fixed the connection problem and I no longer have dropped connections and wifi connection back to normal. HOWEVER it has left my auto connect nonfunctional.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWireless service on Dell laptop computer had been running fine for 4.5 months until underground Comcast cable failed, presumably due to freezing and thawing in cold New England soil. All Comcast service went out, TV, Internet cable modem, etc. Service was restored with above ground cable, and wireless service returned to other devices in household, but not the Dell laptop. I am wondering if my wireless card itself was damaged in the event, as no software fixes I have tried have worked. However, the device manager says the Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card is working properly and the driver software for the service is up to date.
Some of the messages I have received from various command line and dialogue box attempted fixes:

I saw some other mentions online of intermittent internet connectivity using the factory-installed Intel Centrino wireless-N 1030 card on various new Dell computers running Windows 7, but didn't see any resolution to the problem.
I can connect directly to my router via an ethernet cord, but trying to use the wireless card gives me intermittent connectivity. I will pretty quickly lose the ability to load a new page if I'm browsing with IE or Firefox, and can regain it (temporarily) by disconnecting/reconnecting or letting the wireless manager troubleshoot, during which it resets the wireless adaptor. Doing a continuous ping of my router gives me anywhere from 30-70% data loss and lengthy round trips (I am currently one foot away from the router). Other (ancient!) computers work fine on my router; I have updated the router's firmware/reset it many times, etc). I didn't specifically go download a new driver for the wireless card, but going into its properties and having it search for an updated driver results in it reporting it already has the most up-to-date driver.
I spent a lot of late nights talking to Dell support, and their eventual fix (after a complete reinstall from the factory setting partition) was to set up my home network as a WEP, which I'm not happy with due to it's poor security compared to WPA2/WPA. This appeared to resolve the connectivity issue (why??). But I feel like I should be able to use WPA2 security with a brand-new laptop. So I changed it back to WPA2/WPA and tried installing all the critical updates that Windows Update could find, including SP1, and then looked at some continuous pings of various webpages and of my router itself.
Then I noticed my ping round trip time was awesome and they were 100% successful while my computer was plugged in with the power cord, but this unfailingly changed to reporting unsuccessful pings and having 1000ms round trips as soon as I disconnect the power. Seems like the on-battery power settings are starving the wireless card?
Also, I'm sure my initial intermittent connectivity (before the complete OS reinstall) was still occurring while plugged in with the power cord, so I'm not sure if the reinstall fixed some aspect of the problem, or whether the appearance of success while plugged in now is just temporary. Perhaps my card is just bad and I need a new one? I'm using the factory default power settings and the factory-installed wireless card (and I couldn't choose a different wireless card when I built my laptop)
I've gotten a dir-600 and have been trying to configure it so that it won't auto connect to the internet. Some people in my network prefers to manually connect to the internet from their pppoe dial-up on their PC. I've tried changing it to static or dynamic ip in the LAN config, but everyone connected to the router from LAN couldn't dial out as well. changing it to ap allowed everyone (including wireless) solved the problem. but doing so, i am not able to access the router. the default ip's don't work, nor could i find the ip of the router on the network.
so what i want to do is reset it to factory settings and just use it as a hub/switch w/ wireless. don't want to use it to connect to the net automatically.
I have the D-link DIR-825 router with the dual band, it's never caused me problems, but my wireless laptops can't use it anymore, at first they couldn't even see the SSID even though it was broadcasting. I fixed that and now they connect to the internet but no web pages load. The strange thing is my desktop, itouch and ps3 all connect to it fine. I've tried everything I know how but i'm just stuck now.

I'm using the TL-MR3220 hardware version 2.0. Firmware version 3.13.12 Build 120703 Rel.58323n. I'm using D-Link DWM-156 3.75G HSUPA USB Adapter. The problem I'm encountering is the router does not auto detect the 3G USB adapter when I power up the router. The router will detect the 3G adapter only when I plug out and plug in the 3G USB adapter. I used to have the same router but version 1.2. Version 1.2 does not have this problem.
About six months ago I replaced my old router (some generic 802.11b/g router I got for free with a rebate years ago and which lasted a few years) with a Dir-601 after the old router started intermittently cutting out. Setup of the Dir-601 was straightforward enough and I have WEP enabled. Both my Macbook and my wife's Macbook can connect fine if we choose the router from the drop-down wireless network list, and the router has been consistently reliable in maintaining a connection as long as the OS is running.
HOWEVER, neither computer will remember the wi-fi network and won't auto-connect when waking up from sleep or after a restart. Our iPhone and Android smartphones remember the network just fine and auto-connect every time, zero issues. I've gone through all the typical Mac troubleshooting steps, deleting saved network connections and re-establishing new ones. Never solves the problem. We always have to go to the wireless network menu and manually select the wifi connection to connect to.
It's not the Macbooks. Firstly, both macbooks have the same issue, and they're each running different MacOS versions, so there's no version-specific issue that can be at play here. Secondly, neither macbook had this issue with any previous wifi router. Thirdly, anywhere else we take our macbooks where we've set up a wifi connection, they remember it and auto-connect without us having to manually select the network. The only network where we have to manually select the network every time is the one set up with the Dir-601. In fact, we're at my inlaws for the holidays and our Macbooks have been auto-connecting to their router each and every time.Is there a setting I'm not seeing on the Dir-601 admin page?
My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again
View 3 Replies View RelatedI set up a DIR-655 router for a friend 4 years ago and it's worked reliably with all of their equipment since. They have wireless printers, iMacs, pc laptops and iPhone 4S's, all connecting without any problems. Recently, they got an iPhone5 and it will not connect to their home wireless automatically, they have to re-enter the password each time. They've tested their iPhone 5 on other networks and they do not have to re-enter the password. Apple and ATT are blaming the router. I do not live near them and I'm going to have to facilitate them remotely. At this point, I believe their router is configured with WPA2, but I can't be sure. Which configuration will work with the iPhone 5, as well as their other, older, devices that have worked for 4 years
