I'm looking to replace a broken Linksys 8-port router that was connected to a D-Link Wi-Fi unit. I'm not sure what hardware to go with for use in a house ~2000 sq. ft. I'll be using an Xbox (currently hardwired), Wii (wifi equipped), iPad, PC laptop along with a desk top PC (currently hardwired) sometimes simultaneously.

He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.
So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.
The laptops and the desktop in my home connect perfectly fine to our wifi, but all other devices like our iPhones, iPads, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and a 2006 hp laptop will either show a connection, but the connection doesn't actually work, or there will be a broken connection shown to our wifi. All these devices (except the Nintendo devices[only because we haven't tried it out]) will connect and perform on wifi elsewhere.We have a d-link router?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2500 and I'm trying to connect it to my ISP provided router (Actiontec V1000H) because I wanted better range and consistent connectivity for my 6+ wireless devices.My problem is that, to make this work, I connected an Ethernet cable from the E2500's yellow internet port to one of my V1000H's LAN ports. This, however, did not give me access to the internet even though the network for my E2500 was available in the network list and selected as the default network. I then had to go the the advanced settings of the E2500, and changed the router IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2. This granted me internet access.However, everyone i've talked to including coworkers and experts at dslreports said that, because of what I've done I've set up a double NAT with 2 potentially conflicting IP addresses, and down the road weird issues will arise because of it. They also suggested I connect the E2500 to a dedicated modem to avoid this problem. However, the dedicated modem I was sent was faulty and did not allow internet access even through the ethernet connection. So, until I get a new dedicated modem, I have to use the router/modem combo.What should I do? Should I set up the E2500 as just a wireless access point for my existing router/modem combo? What do I need to edit in the advanced settings?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the WET610N Wireless Bridge to use with my Samsung BD-P1590 Blu-Ray Player. The player has a few built in apps that include Netflix, Bockbuster, Pandora and YouTube. I successfully setup the bridge and hooked it up to the blu-ray player. It wasn't that hard. All the internet apps on the player work fine except Netflix. The first time I use the netfix app, it is supposed to give me a code that I use to register the device with netflix. However, I get a message that Netflix is temporarily unavailable. I have called netflix and they assure me that this is not the case and that it is most likely my wireless setup. The troubleshooting on Samsungs website points to the same thing. With that said, I disconnected the player from the wireless bridge and wired it directly to my router. Netflix works just fine then. Below is a list of things I have attempted:Disable the firewall on the router to see if it was blocking the app. (had the same results)Checked my firmware on all my devices (they are all current)Powered down all my devices and started them up back up starting with my DSL modem and ending with he blu-ray player (same results)Configured the bridge and player to use a static IP vs using the IPs automatically assigned by the router. (same results)Disabled aggregation on all WMM categories. I don't think the WRV54G router supports aggregation,, so I though this might cause a conflict with my setup. (same results)Enabled the broadcasting of SSID (same results)Chatted with linksys support. They basically checked to see if I had the latest firmware and that the bridge was working. They then recommended that I exchange the bridge for a new one. (I have not exchanged it for a new one yet, just because I am not convinced that there isn't something else wrong with my setup)My Configuration

I am not sure if the problem lies with the routewr or the bridge. I am hoping someone out there can confirm that the WET610N truly does work whne using it with a BD-P1590 blu-ray player. This would lead me to believe that there is something wrong with my configuration or with using it combination with my older router. I would like to note also, that I have had one instance where BD Live didn't work. However, it has worked on other disks.
i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

Since I'm going to be away from where I usually live for about six months due to the location of my Course that I'm going to study, I want to be able to remotely access the router if something were to happen. Up until this point, I've been doing the management through a Teamviewer 6/7 remote access with my home computer and connecting from the inside IP address (Example: 192.168.1.1), but it's going to be taken away so I wouldn't be able to do that this year. Is it possible to set up a secure telnet on a Linksys E3000 Wireless Unit that way I can control it through Command Prompt, or would I have to set up Remote Management Access to use the unit outside the network through programs like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2000 router on my home network. The router has the newest version of firmware. Every once in a while, wireless clients on my network become "isolated". Here's an example of what happens. I set up a new wireless printer. I can print to the printer wirelessly from my phone, PC's, etc. all fine after setup. I'm thinking everything is cool!! Well after 2 weeks to 1 month this device will become "isolated" so I cannot print to it; it has an IP address, it can ping its gateway, but i cannot ping it from other devices on the same subnet. I know it's not the printer because if i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, it works fine.
Another example. I have two windows 7 PC's that are on the same home group and i can share files between them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. I can ping my gateway but they cannot ping each other. I would troubleshoot the issue like crazy from the host end, but the second i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, BINGO they can talk. Something is wrong with how these routers function with hosts in inter-subnet communications.
I live in a new apartment building which means a lot of concrete. The internet (fiber) enters the house at the beginning where the modem is hooked up to my Linksys WRT320N. From there two cables run through the house:1 to the home office, where two computers are connected through a switch.1 to the living room, where the Xbox, blue-ray player are connected through a switch.I also have a wifi network running from my WRT320N, but as it is at the beginning of the house, there are some black spots in other parts of the house. I tried to fix this with a Netgear repeater, but that keeps disconnecting.
What I want to do know is place a second linksys device in the living room at the end of the already existing cable that will also broadcast a wifi network, but I want this to be exactly the same Wi-Fi network as I already have. What I want to achieve is that I can walk from one end of the house with my iPad, streaming a video, to the other end of the house and that I always stay connected to the internet and that my tabled just picks up the strongest broadcaster, basically the same as with a mobile phone.
I purchased a WRT150N in early Dec 07. I had a number of problems with the unit disconnecting from wired and wireless connections erratically anywhere from 1/2 hr to 10 hrs. of operation. Troubleshoot thru Linksys chat. Ended up replacing router. Now I am having the same problem with replacement router. I've updated my windows XP, SP2, updated Ethernet driver and manually reconfigured router per Linksys advise. Wife and my laptops have N adapters, primary PC is wired in. It seems to disconnect all connections at same time, totally random. The only way to reconnect is to power down router for a few seconds and then power up.

Until 2 to days ago, my brother told me that he can't conlnect to the wi-fi. I said that its working just fine and told him to just reset his phone. And then, my sister also told me that she can't connect too. I checked their devices like iPhone 4S and iTouch and it says "Unable to join the network....... Also phones of my friends can't connect also. It was just working fine. I haven't changed anything on the router's configuration. I already reset the router, unplug then plug it and its still not working. The router is connected to my laptop and I can still browse the internet. Its the wireless connection that is not.

I am trying to scan a directv device that is connected on my lan it uses port 8080. My hardwired machine returns the expected data, any call from a device connected via my wireless network returns a page can not be displayed. It appears as if the router is blocking ports 8080 over wifi only.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a TP-Link WR841N router which I replaced with a D-Link DIR-615 today. Before the replacement all my laptops, home desktop and my tablet would connect just fine. After the switch, all machines except the tablet connect to the Internet. My tablet shows that its connected to the router but I cannot access the router admin pages or the Internet. All settings on the DIR-615 are the same as the TP-Link one.

Everything is working great on my wired desktop and 3 wireless laptops except the printer will no longer work from any of the computers. I've checked the printer wireless settings and they are correct (ssid and password) and it says it's connected to the wlan. Each of the computers shows the printer is active and set to default BUT the port light on the back of the new router is not on. I have changed cables and still no light, the printer is set up for sharing and it did work a couple days ago but port light was on then.
I have not added anything that wasn't hooked up on my old router, I"m just trying to get what I had on the old router to work on the new one. Everytime I call support, they have me change something that messes up what a previous agent had me do. Now they want me to pay for a direct connection so they can upgrade my router firmware...they didn't even ask what version I already had which happen to be the same version that is available on [URL] so if I had agreed, I would have paid for nothing. I had already paid $29.99 for additional 14 day support on my old router only to find out I needed a new one.
I've been using Linksys routers for quite awhile but I'm just about ready to change brands. I would really like to give this E-2500 a chance.
I'm moving into a new place pretty quick, and my ISP has just introduced those lovely (read: awful) modem/router combos. I want to use my router running DD-WRT however. If I disable all firewalls, etc. and the DHCP server on the built-in router, and then have that all enabled on my DD-WRT router, everything should work, right? That way the combo unit would basically just be acting as a modem.

I've configured my 655 and I can access the internet through it. Network cable from PC goes to the DLINK, DLINK to the DSL modem, DSL modem to the big scary internet. This all works great. Now for the Wi Fi.I've set up the Wi Fi on the 655 and can both see and connect to my newly configured home network from my laptop, but I can not access the internet from the laptop.
