Cannot Receive Wifi Signal In Family Room
Dec 31, 2011
I received three things for Christmas: 1. Linksys WiFi E1200, 2. Pandigital Planet tablet, 3. Roku.My family room is on the same level as my Wifi router but about 70 feet apart, but I cannot get a wifi signal in the family room on the Pandigital tablet, however, the Roku seems to be receiving the wifi signal because the Roku works. Is my tablet not working correctly? Can and should my son increase the signal strength of the Linksys

My question has to do with the low signal strength of my dir-655. I have it set up in the second bedroom of my apartment. When I am sitting in my living room (about 30 feet away) it's really hard to pull in a signal of more than one bar on my phone, or two bars on my wife's kindle fire and will often drop the signal all together. But, if I search for networks, tons of other routers come up with excellent signal strength from our neighbors. Is there something I need to know about expanding the signal strength?

-My landlord has his modem/router connected by a wire that runs downstairs to my desktop computer; and my desktop computer's internet is excellent. -I have a laptop in the other room that is connected wirelessly to my landlord's router with poor internet strength. -I have a spare linksys wireless G broadband router that is not being used.
How can I use this router to increase the signal strength on my laptop in the other room?

i'm setting up a wireless network for a local B&B they currently have a Linksys WAG54GS ADSL router in one of the rooms but need the wireless signal to reach each guest room the house has thick brick walls and an upstairs.i was thinking of using 2 x repeaters, the WRE54G's, and to put one on the ground floor within range of the current ADSL router and to put another on the 1st floor within range of the repeater on the ground floor to receive the bounced signal.I don't know much about these repeaters and how they work exactly and so unsure if this would be a viable solution in my case.

I have a Verizon Actiontec router without N band. I cannot receive the signal in the farthest corner of my home. Apparently using an N band router will solve this problem with the higher output. Verizon refuses to send me a new router with N band, stating that they will merely send me a replacement for the current router w/o N band. Therefore I want to change this router out. I don't know if the Actiontec has a built-in modem, and if so, how and what can I use as a replacement router.

-Region : UnitedKingdom
-Model : TL-WR841N
-Hardware Version : V8
-Firmware Version : 3.13.18 Build 120522 Rel.31564n
-ISP : Virgin
I bought a TL-WR841N to use instead of our Virgin Super-hub which dropped the wifi regularly. It took me a while but I stumbled with the set up and got it working.Super-hub (in modem mode) - cable - TL-WR841N - 2 x cables running to 2 switches for (TV, Sky+, WII) and (PC, X-Box). Everything is spot on apart from the other half's Iphone and Ipad. Neither of them can get on the web in the bedroom. Both apples will join the network, but none will be able to get onto the web. The Wifi bars are on display on both products but they just keep spinning and searching to get on the web. I bought a Huawei repeater plug hoping that would work, but it just slows down everything else that can get on the network.Remembering that this happens only in one room, is there something that I can alter that would let these 2 apples access the web besides walking out on the landing every time she needs to update a web page ?

I just recently bought this router (DIR-615 rev E3) to act as a Access Point for the dead wifi spot in my room downstairs. I set up everything properly (Turned off DCHP, set ports and gateway..subnet blah blah) and it was working fine. My wireless speeds were perfect, and had no issues with that. However, my wired speed was significantly slowed down. I have Verizon Fios and have the wire from that plugged in to LAN port 1 on my DIR-615. I have another wire going from Port 2 to the back of my PC. My normal speeds are about 30mbps down and 25mbps up. When I connect my internet through the second router (DIR-615) I get a maximum of about 3.0mbps up and down, doesn't go much higher than that. The wireless however, gives me about 11mbps both ways, which is fine.
I thought it might have been a firmware issue so I flashed to DD-WRT (build 15778), but the problem persists. I've tried most everything and am getting desperate. There's absolutely no logical reasoning for the slowdown. I have confirmed it's a router issue because I also turned off wireless on my laptop and plugged that directly into the router instead of my desktop and get the same 3mbps.

I can't connect to the internet. I'm currently using a USB internet, but the problem still exists. So it's not working with either cable or USB internet. It just won't connect. I've thought for a long time that there is probably something wrong with my network card, but I've run some tests that I saw on the internet, and it appears as if the network card is fine. I've also thought that there might have been a program or something that I installed that could have caused this problem, but I can't find the problem. When I go to the device manager, I can find one network card called: "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller". I've tried to reinstall the card, but it doesn't work. I can't find any software on the internet for this card either.

Just a general concern for privacy, on my NIC card and gateway stock from HP, as well as performance...where should we draw the line and consider ourselves safe? Being disabled and pretty much not able to work no longer with a life threatning illness, and not much in my bank account, I have not much to worry about this. However I dont want my typical neighborhood kid hacking on my connection either, it tends to slow down your bandwidth.

Ive just downloaded wireshark just to mess around and ive noticed that even when ive got nothing open its still capturing packets. It gives me a choice of interfaces i want to choose to monitor and i would of thought it be "Realtek PCIe Family Controller" as this is normally the default one (im using wireless) but its saying no packets are being captured from this interface its the "Microsoft" Interface thats capturing the packets. Ive attached a screenshot, i know this isnt nothing bad but was just wondering 1) why isnt my Realtek PCIe interface capturing anything (even when i have youtube open it doesnt capture anything) and 2) why is Microsoft capturing packets? what is this microsoft interface and why is it capturing packets when nothing is open.

I have a wireless router that rests across the house next to the modem. The signal is too weak to reach to the other side of the house. Is there a way to boost the signal so I can get wifi from across the house or any other way to get an internet connection without several fifty foot wires going across the house?

My parents ditched their Comcast cable last year. Their house association has provided 'Wifi' for everyone in the neighborhood as part of the association fee. However, signal is very weak, even though they are one of the closest to the Wifi Antennas. They have a laptop, two desktops, and one Ipad. Their laptop seems fine. Both of the desktop, however, are very slow. It's slower than 56k. It's almost unbearable. They still have all their modems/router from Comcast. I am wondering a way to get the Wifi signal, and use the Comcast Router to create a Wifi in their house again so they can print wireless and use netflix and things like that. I don't know the exact definition for it. I'm just wondering if it can be done.

I just got a job at a School district that has an extremly old and basic network setup (No Firewall, only 2 accounts on the server Student and Teacher). They have two small buildings that have 1 wireless router on each floor about in the middle of the hallway. I am having a strange issue I haven't seen before with a windows 7 laptop that a few of the teachers in the district are having. They can see the wireless router on the network but everytime they try and connect it says "Windows Cannot Connect or is Denied Access". All the other laptops in the building connect fine.Heres what I have done so far.
-Power cycled the router, nothing.
-ipconfig /release, and renew, nothing.
-Getting closer to the router and connecting, nothing. (Also tried with a differant laptop in the room and it could connect no problem which confused me more)
-Updating the network card.(says it has the latest updates)
-Re-entering the network key, nothing
What I haven't tried is setting up manually a static IP. But do I need to do that? And if so how do I know which IP to give it is there a way I can generate a list of all the IP's on the network?

went to set up ps3 and see that the wifi signal is particularly bad (30%) for online. There is no possible way of getting the router near the ps3.I am think that a pair of tp-link powerlines may play a role here, but may be mistaken. What are peoples experiences. would something like that increase ps3 signal? would 200mbps or 500mbps be better (they do diffferent models). I understand that it would make the connection for the ps3 wired, but am I right in thinking the laptop would just operate over wifi as it does already?

My laptop will pick up the network momentarily then loose the signal. My question is : how to boost reception?I have no access to the modem or router either. Do they make a decent booster that I can plug in my usb that will work with my current wifi card?

I have computers scattered across our home, and in many areas it is not feasible to run ethernet cable. At one location (less than 30 feet away) but through multiple walls, I can barely connect to any POS (I have two). I added a stand alone antenna extension with long antennas on both the router and the WiFi card on the PC, however, this made zero improvement. What should I be looking to purchase to increase the signal strength? I've already tried different routers.

I need to get internet out to my shop computers. The shop is about 1/2 mile away form my house and there is a clear line of sight. I plan on using either a biquad or yagi antenna of some sort.
Can I use something like this?
http:[url]....(I think this would eliminate the need for a router? Also since this is all USB and comes with software designed around it, it should be fairly easy to setup.)Or Would I be better off getting a wrt54g flashed with dd-wrt to act as a repeater?
