Cantenna Connect To Distant Wifi And Broadcast To Second Location
May 6, 2012
My neighbour and i will share internet costs, we have visibility and about 200m distance. cantenna should be fine to connect us. i can connect to his WIFI with my laptop when close his house. the setup i would like,m but i'm not clear about:
a) i need an access point device to connect the cantenna to it first, then i would like to broadcast that signal via Ethernet to WIFI-N router to connect the 3 computers in my location.
b) what exact AP device should i purchase ? i already have Linksys E3200 wifi router but, so i'm not sure about the AP device or if that's what i really need to what i'm imagining.
My DSL modem/wireless router wont broadcast the wifi signal i need to know if it is just defective or a setting that can be turned off, It was working just fine and just recently stopped broadcasting, it works just fine for a direct connection. (It is a regular windstream wireless modem/router.
im using microsoft network monitor to monitor all traffic in and out (public) and mirrored ports for local traffic, except wireless traffic as its connecting to the router. I want to use a wifi NIC on the server to broadcast, so wireless clients can connect via the server and obtain DNS and DHCP etc from there, therefor, monitoring all traffic.
I am trying to set a wireless connection and it says that the Wifi isn't on, which I believe, because I don't even know where the Wifi button is. And the computer didn't come with an owner's manual with a diagram of where and what every button is. Trying to set up PC for bf for Christmas. I am a mac user :P so I have lost my touch with PC's.
Password has been resent but the connections is always limited and then disconnects shortly after making a connection. My iPhone can connect to the wifi but my computer can not.
I am on the LAN attached to fa0/0 on R1 and I need layer 2 connectivity to a device on fa0/0 on R2. I'm not sure if this is possible with 1841's or not? I made a GRE tunnel between the two and was going to add a BVI and bridge the tunnel at each end with fa0/0 at eah end, but the 1841's don't support BVIs so I'm a bit stumped here! Would L2TP work here?
R2 is a remote router running C1841-SPSERVICESK9-M. R1 is local running C1841-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M. I can't change the remote router so if the answer is not support in C1841-SPSERVICESK9-M I won't be able to do this.
I have been working with a friend set up a brand new laptop with Win-7 Home Premium (64 bit) preinstalled. I did the initial set-up at my home, with the machine connected via broadband internet cable to my router. I had absolutely no problem getting it to connect with the internet. Didn't bother to try getting the thing going wirelessly at my location. During the initial setup, I selected "home" as the network type (as opposed to public, etc.)But, when I took the machine to the owner's home, it wouldn't connect via her broadband modem.
Mousing over the network icon in the tray area brings up a tool-tip baloon, "Unidentified Network, No internet access). Opening the Sharing Center shows the network as "Unidentified Network, Public Network. None of the settings accessible to me from that point seemed useful or relevant.I have not been able to find appropriate settings to redefine the network type, etc. Her old machine, which is in the process of dying, is still able to connect, and I'm using the same cable to connect both machines. To top it off, I very recently upgraded my own laptop to Win-7, so I took it over there and it exhibits the same problem. And, if I bring her machine back to my house it connects right up with no fuss at all.
So you've got broadcast networks - Ethernet, PPP networks such as serial & T1/E1 and then youve got Non-broadcast multi-access links such as Frame relay and ATM. I understand the concepts of each. That's not the problem. My question is, is it possible create a broadcast network (Ethernet) but also connect a router to another router via a PPP connection? Say to a specific branch for example. Just curious if you can use multipule link types.
While trying to connect to WiFi at remote sites APs, the connection is getting time out.User are getting error as 'Unable to connect to <WiFi-SSID>' The APs at corporate office are functioning properly and user are able to connect to the APs.
I can only access a server for my work with the IP I have at home. Is there any way I can be at another location and somehow get to that server with the home IP? I suppose I would have to set up a proxy at home and then connect to it from the other location, so it would make no difference to the server if I'm somewhere else? Am I thinking in the right direction? How would I set that up?
Bell gives my and IP address and if I reset my modem I will get a new one. Take for example I have an IP address at 7:30pm and decided to reset my modem at 8:00pm. I now have a new IP address, will my previous address, the one I had at 7:30pm, will that one be able to be traced back to me in anyway, can any of my previous addresses be traced back to me in anyway?
In my device I am able to browse through & connect to my HOME wifi network ; But after connecting it says 'No Internet Access'.I tried connecting with my SONY Bluray , iphone , ipad , laptops -- everywhere same story.I am able to plug in the ethernet cable directly from modem & able to connect to network.I am not able to open the http://192.168.0.1 -- ( When I am plugged in the modem directly)
Following are my router details
FCCID - KA2DIR601A1 IC : 4216A-IR601 H/W Ver:A1 F.W Ver:1.00 NA
when i connect my sylvania netbook to my wireless internet it says connected, excellent signal but when i try to pull up a web page it says can not connect to server...
When I try to upload one file through FTP client to a server, it shows error similar to "you are disconnected by remote host" or something like that. It happens only in work place. When I try the same from home it connects successfully. What could be the problem?
How do I check IP address of others, when in chatting or playing online game, I could only know that he is Mr. X from YZA country which appears on Screen, But I also know he is using with wrong name and wrong Country name.I would to check his IP as well as his Place?
I know that 255.255.255.255 is the broadcast address to send message to all hosts that are in LAN. what i want here is, i want to send a mail to all hosts using this address.
Is it normal for a pc to send broadcast to ip address that don't really exist? I am using wireshark to sniff my company's network activity and im seeing something like this.who has 192.168.2.102 tell 192.168.2.235
who has 192.168.2.103 tell 192.168.2.235 who has 192.168.2.104 tell 192.168.2.235 who has 192.168.2.105 tell 192.168.2.235 who has 192.168.2.106 tell 192.168.2.235
but ip address 192.168.2.102 - 192.168.2.106 are currently not being in use..
I'm trying to get a wireless N-router and a N-adapter for a room outside the range of a G router. But their are two laptops at the house. They both use g adapters. Can the N router broadcast both N and G signal at the same time? So all adapters in the house can connect to the router. Does broadcasting both signals degree the range of the N broadcast making the an additional N adapter useless?
My router has been having major problems lately [Well, for a while now]. Before, it would make all my machines [1 PC, 2 Laptops] disconnect from the internet briefly and reconnect. This doesn't impact browsing, video watching, etc. It wouldn't even say I was disconnected. However, I know it was disconnecting because programs like AIM, MSN, and multiple video games would say I lost connection. For example, MSN would disconnect and take me out of any conversations and reconnect a second later. Friends tell me that I keep going offline and then online.
I read somewhere I should change my channel, so I did and still got the same problem. Furthermore, my router/pc are literally right next to each other. Then I read elsewhere I should do a factory reset on my router by holding the reset button for a while. So I did and it reset. It started broadcasting as an unsecured network, so I was going to secure it.
1. Log in via http://192.168.0.1 (default "username: Admin and no pass")
2. Go to setup tab ----> internet ----> internet connection wizard2.1 CHANGE PASSWORD ! click next 2.2 chose time zone (you know where you are) 2.3 Configure your Internet Connection DHCP Connection (Dynamic IP Address)Choose this if your Internet connection automatically provides you with an IP Address. Most Cable Modems use this type of connection. 2.4. press "clone your computer's MAC address" ; hostname: 'your computer name in ubuntu' ( mine is "grobar" yours is ..... )
3. Go to setup tab ----> wireless settings ----> Wireless Network Setup Wizard (after this we're gonna do manual settings)
3.1 give your network a name= SSID (e.g. 'grobar') 3.2.Automatically assign a network key (Recommended) and chose WAP or WAP2 3.3 Write down the network key!!! Or do printscr and save this page.
4. Go to setup tab ----> wireless settings ---->Manual Wireless Network Setup 4.1 Wireless Network SettingsEnable Wireless : ALWAYS Wireless Network Name : (Also called the SSID) the name you gave in 3.1 802.11 Mode : chose "mixed 802.11n,g and b" Enable Auto Channel Scan : YES Wireless Channel : AUTO Transmission Rate : BEST (Mbit/s) Channel Width : AUTO 20/40 MHz Visibility Status : !!!Invisible!!! (so that no outsiders know your SSID except you) So after I finish the Internet Connection Wizard [Setting up Password etc], the http://192.168.0.1/ page asks me to click "Connect" so it can reboot the router with the settings. When I do so, the router turns off with the power icon being orange. After about 15 seconds or so, the broadcasting icon, power icon, and PC1 icon all turn green. However, there is a globe icon on it as well and that is ORANGE.
Regardless of power cycling, redoing the process, etc. it stays orange. None of my machines can connect to it. The only way I can connect again to the router is if I do a reset again (By holding the reset button). But then, I am unsecured and live in an apartment. I would like to add that the above process is the one I did previously and it worked fine. But then I had to reset the router and a similar problem occurred but I managed to fix it somehow and the first problem I talked about started happening (Reconnecting and disconnecting). Furthermore, when I go to "Connect to a Network" one of the old SSIDs I created for the router is still there regardless of the router status (Offline, Not connected, etc). I am typing this by connecting my PC directly to my modem. Router Information: D-Link DIR-615 300N
I am having issues recieving UDP response from my smart lighting control, i can here it in the same town but not from overseas..internal ip address 192.168.0.3 port 6000 it hears my commands from overseas i just cant here its response.
My D-Link DIR-655 most of the time does not broadcast wireless signal. I use Windows 7 and XP with same result. I see at least a dozen of broadcasting wireless signal in my network. Even after it worked, then next time I power-on PC, the signal is not there. The Router does not show the status light for wireless usage for these non-broadcasting time. It works and does not work.
