View 1 RepliesI recently updated my firmware for a DIR-601 router and have internet while hardwired, but no wireless. I saved the configuration settings before updating, but this doesn't even matter because my wireless router doesn't even show up in the list of available wireless network connections. Why isn't my router showing up? I tried a few things like unplugging it and resetting it, but nothing seems to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had a WRT54GL ( for about a week now ) with no real issues. Today my wife mentioned that the net's been flaky ( wireless nto hard wired ). I originally noticed what seemed like minutes for my desktop of laptop to connect to any web pages. Loads were extremely slow. According to the computer I had a 1 mbps connection. I did the standard resetting of the modem and router.babble babble babble. Eventually, I ran a wifi analyzer from my phone to determine an ideal channel. However, while running the frequency scanner I also noticed that my broadcasting would continue to drop off the radar for a quick moment then return. This seemed to be true no matter what channel I set. What's interesting is that the signal would read as extremely strong for 45 sec - 1 minute, then completely drop the signal, then another strong broadcast. Other neighboring signals don't exhibit this behavior....well I would see the weaker signals coming in and off the radar from time to time. I'm guessing it's some type of interference? However if that's the case I can't explain why my signal seems so strong. I'm assuming I'd see a lot of fluctuation in my signal before dropping off ( instead of going from 100 to 0 in the blink of an eye ).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had trouble connection to my Linksys WRT54G router. However, in this process I had to create a couple of new profiles/networks/SSID or whatever they are called. I now have one functioning network, but my router is still broadcasting the other two networks. How can I get my router to only broadcast the one network, I am currently using? I erased them from Vista, so that my own computer does not automatically log on to the, but that is clearly not enough. Since one of the networks is not secured with a password (dont ask why), my concern is that my neighbours can access it. BTW, I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satelite A200.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house. Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

The name of my network shows full signal strength and a lock next to the name but I was under the impression if I have disabled the SSID broadcast it shouldn't show up at all and would force a user to manually input the network name when trying to connect to it. I have the router configured to only allow certain MAC addresses wireless access as well. Router is running Firmware Version: 1.0.03.Also, my primary computer my iMac running 10.7.2 boots up or is brought out of sleep mode I constantly need to go up to the top of my screen and re-select my network.

Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy router has been having major problems lately [Well, for a while now]. Before, it would make all my machines [1 PC, 2 Laptops] disconnect from the internet briefly and reconnect. This doesn't impact browsing, video watching, etc. It wouldn't even say I was disconnected. However, I know it was disconnecting because programs like AIM, MSN, and multiple video games would say I lost connection. For example, MSN would disconnect and take me out of any conversations and reconnect a second later. Friends tell me that I keep going offline and then online.
I read somewhere I should change my channel, so I did and still got the same problem. Furthermore, my router/pc are literally right next to each other. Then I read elsewhere I should do a factory reset on my router by holding the reset button for a while. So I did and it reset. It started broadcasting as an unsecured network, so I was going to secure it.
1. Log in via http://192.168.0.1 (default "username: Admin and no pass")
2. Go to setup tab ----> internet ----> internet connection wizard2.1 CHANGE PASSWORD ! click next 2.2 chose time zone (you know where you are) 2.3 Configure your Internet Connection DHCP Connection (Dynamic IP Address)Choose this if your Internet connection automatically provides you with an IP Address. Most Cable Modems use this type of connection. 2.4. press "clone your computer's MAC address" ; hostname: 'your computer name in ubuntu' ( mine is "grobar" yours is ..... )
3. Go to setup tab ----> wireless settings ----> Wireless Network Setup Wizard (after this we're gonna do manual settings)
3.1 give your network a name= SSID (e.g. 'grobar')
3.2.Automatically assign a network key (Recommended) and chose WAP or WAP2
3.3 Write down the network key!!! Or do printscr and save this page.
4. Go to setup tab ----> wireless settings ---->Manual Wireless Network Setup 4.1 Wireless Network SettingsEnable Wireless : ALWAYS Wireless Network Name : (Also called the SSID) the name you gave in 3.1 802.11 Mode : chose "mixed 802.11n,g and b" Enable Auto Channel Scan : YES Wireless Channel : AUTO Transmission Rate : BEST (Mbit/s) Channel Width : AUTO 20/40 MHz Visibility Status : !!!Invisible!!! (so that no outsiders know your SSID except you) So after I finish the Internet Connection Wizard [Setting up Password etc], the http://192.168.0.1/ page asks me to click "Connect" so it can reboot the router with the settings. When I do so, the router turns off with the power icon being orange. After about 15 seconds or so, the broadcasting icon, power icon, and PC1 icon all turn green. However, there is a globe icon on it as well and that is ORANGE.
Regardless of power cycling, redoing the process, etc. it stays orange. None of my machines can connect to it. The only way I can connect again to the router is if I do a reset again (By holding the reset button). But then, I am unsecured and live in an apartment. I would like to add that the above process is the one I did previously and it worked fine. But then I had to reset the router and a similar problem occurred but I managed to fix it somehow and the first problem I talked about started happening (Reconnecting and disconnecting). Furthermore, when I go to "Connect to a Network" one of the old SSIDs I created for the router is still there regardless of the router status (Offline, Not connected, etc). I am typing this by connecting my PC directly to my modem. Router Information: D-Link DIR-615 300N
They currently have three Ambicon WL300N-ARs in their network. They are set up as AP and everything has been running fine till we tried to put a security DVR/camera behind each router. The first one worked without any issues but once we connected the second DVR to the network became unusable, very slow. Someone told the IT guy that it was probably a broadcast storm. I don't know anything about the ambicon routers, but if the wireless is setup as a AP would it forward broadcast? I was under the impression that routers did not forward broadcast. or by setting it up as a AP it no longer performs as a router? The three Ambicons are connected to a unmanaged fiber switch, I asked for a make and model but he didn't know. Also connected to the fiber switch is another unmanaged netgear switch.

I understand the concepts of each. That's not the problem. My question is, is it possible create a broadcast network (Ethernet) but also connect a router to another router via a PPP connection? Say to a specific branch for example. Just curious if you can use multipule link types.

View 6 Replies View Relatedmy question regards to a pair of WLC 4402 with 7.0.98.0 software.Actual, our security policy does not really allow any peer-to-peer communication in a wireless LAN. Therefore we set the 'P2P Blocking Action' to drop, and the 'Broadcast Forwarding' feature to disabled (default). But now there is a special requirement for two mobile endpoints to communicate with each other, because one device controls the other. To test the communication, we first disabled P2P Blocking (without success) and further enabled Broadcast Forwarding to bring the communication up. Now it works, but the configuration disagrees with our policy.
1. Is there an alternative configuration as described possible, so that we do not violate the security policy? To allow only p2p connection between the two devices, ist should also be possible to drop any else by an ACL. But how to fix the problem with the broadcast, because of the needed ARP? My idea was to use a static ARP entry, but as far as i know, one of the both devices is not able for it.
2. Because, I did not find any detailed documentation:
2a. with enabled Broadcast Forwarding, the controller forwards all broadcast for any configured SSID, right?
2b. is the broadcast limited to the source VLAN/SSID?
2c. is the broadcast limited to an AP, to an WLC, or is it broadcasted to every AP on every WLC that has the relevant SSID?
we already have two new 5508 but not in an operational state now, because we plan to implement new 3600 APs.Do these WLCs offer more/another circumstances or possibilities?
I am trying to provision three 1142 AP's so they broadcast multiple SSIDs. I have set the following commands, but I am not able to get more than one SSID to broadcast. As you can see I added the "guest-mode" command to one of the SSIDs which took it without problems. That other SSID does not accept the command.
dot11 ssid Test
vlan 2
authentication open
[Code].....
Which command in the Cisco AP1200 series will you use to broadcast the SSID using VLANs?
