Scanning Open Ports On Network

Jan 24, 2012

My company deals in a video conference software which requires certain ports to be open to work correctly, including tcp and udp ports. Clients who want to test / purchase have different kind of network setup. I usually tell them to open those ports require by the software on their end. How do i ensure if the port range required by my software is open once I am at their location. I have installed a few network scan tools but not sure what ip do i scan. Should I scan my server's ip once I am at their location and connected ? or should I scan their gateway ?

Scanning An External Network Through UDP / ARP Scan?

Jun 24, 2011

the setup is as follow: I have two separate network.192.168.90.xx and 10.10.xx.xx the two boxes being connected via an ethernet cable. How would I go about having a 192.(...) machine speak to a 10.(...) box? My boss tells me that via a UDP call the 192.(...) machine can get the IP of a 10.(...) box. Isn't UDP dependant on a subnet mask to limit the # of queries, and in that case would it even be feasable? I was thinking instead of spoofing the 192.(...) IP to an unoccupied 10.(...) IP. Of course to do this would require knowing what IPs are unoccupied on the other network, and I cannot assume the would respond to pings.

D-Link DIR-825 :: 5 Ghz Enabled Doesn't Show Up When Scanning?

Dec 15, 2010

I am running a DIR-825 I believe one of the original's no updates or anything.  I run it mixed mode.  The 2.4 shows up and I can connect to but the 5 ghz (n) speed says it's enabled but I can never see it when I scan on any of my wireless n products (laptops and other computers).  Dlink support told me to change to mixed mode g and n.  I was running it in mixed mode (a, g and n).  D link told me to change to mixed mode g and n and to make sure they stay on channel 6 and 11.  Is this correct.  Which firmware should I upgrade to and is there any easy way to do this?

Cisco Firewall :: 65535 ASA - Port Scanning Protection Through Embryonic Limit Setup

Jul 1, 2011

url...I discovered that it would be possible to be protected from portscan, i mean when someone scan our nework/host from outside, the attacker will see all the 65535 ports as "open" (in that way it will be more difficult for an attacker to perform customized attacks...)So I have follow the setup in that link: policy-map global_policy class class-defaults set connection embryonic-conn-max 15 per-client-embryonic-max 3 service-policy global_policy global . The problem is that I don't have the exepected result..If i do a portscan over Internet from an external host to my hosts the portscan is successfully working and I can view my open ports...I have also tried to set this through a "match" in an access-list but without any sucess.

Set Up Wifi With Lan

Oct 12, 2011

I work in an office which has a network setup with server and wireless broadband router all plugged into a network switch. This all works fine.

Is there anyway this can be achieved, having a traditional LAN using ethernet with wireless to access internet using the adsl router? I tried a small network switch, but all i get is 'unknown network'. I can connect the laptops together using wireless through the router (But no internet connection) and using the Windows 7 Homegroup function (which gives me web access but not a traditional LAN).

How To Know Who Is Using The Wifi

Nov 18, 2011

I wife just got the new Kindle Fire and when I was setting it up for WiFi, I had to choose from 9 different connections. This started me wondering how do I find out if someone is "piggy backing" by WiFi. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on a PC (not MAC).The router was supplied my Brighthouse to give me the internet, a phone, whole house wireless service, and cable TV. The brand name of the router is UBEE. I think I'm using a secure setup because I have to use a password when I want to install a new device to the system.

Can't See Wifi Printer?

Dec 16, 2011

Been using an Epson Artisan 800 for years over a long USB cable. Love the thing to pieces, until it broke printing on it's 800th CD or so. Replaced with an Epson Artisan 835 and wanted to it set it up WiFi this time (new office layout doesn't lend well to a USB cable). But I can't see the damn thing on the network! And I don't think it's the printer's fault either, since it's the second one I've tried.Printer says it's connected to the router. Shows full signal strength on front panel. All network connection tests available on the printer's touch screen pass quickly:SSID checkCommunication Mode checkSecurity Mode checkMAC Address Filtering checkSecurity Key/Password checkIP Address checkDetailed IP Setup checkBut my Win 7 box can't see the printer!Running the Epson connection wizard on my Win 7 box failed, so I assigned both static IPs in the router's DHCP panel ( and .105). The printer's network test page shows the IP stuck. Power cycled both printer and router twice each. No dice. IPconfig shows that the PC's IP stuck too.

Wifi Dropping Only On Xp?

Aug 25, 2012

My router is a Netgear WNDR3400 running the most recent firmware V1.0.0.16_1.0.34). This is a dual band router. The 5ghz band I have setup in WPA2-psk (AES). The 2.4ghz band I have as unprotected. The two computers I have issues on are both running XP-SP3. The first is a Dell Latitude d600 laptop. The 2nd is a box I put together myself, and uses a Trendnet TEW-423pi (Rev A) wireless card. Both are connecting to the 2.4ghz band. The computers will both connect just fine, but will occasionally drop the WIFI connection for a moment or two, and then reconnect again right away. On both computers, if I look in Event Viewer, i see a System listing under source "tcpip" saying:The system detected that network adapter DEVICETCPIP_{1EEC58ED-1570-4219-B200-8EC4F636910C} was disconnected from the network, and the adapter's network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated driversOn the diy-box, I see a slew of events relating to "The Wireless Zero Configuration service" stopping and starting up to 10 times back-and-forth in the same instant as a disconnection.

On the laptop, I do not have that same service listing, but I see a number of updater services (mostly google) doing the same flip-flopping a handful of times within the same second as the tcpip listing. Now, to throw a wrench in the mix, there are a slew of other devices (a printer, a pair of ipod touches, and two windows 7 boxes, plus a number of friends' computers and etc.) that connect regularly and stably on this same network. Both computers have the newest possible drivers.

Can Connect To Wifi

Mar 23, 2013

So recently it just kind of cut out on me. I was connected to both at one point, and now whenever I connect to ethernet, I cannot connect to wifi either as it makes ethernet the main source. Currently in college so I do not have access to the routers/modems/servers. I have done a chkdisc run, tried different ethercords (Glowing), antivirus, reinstalled drivers. Whenever I run a diagnostic on both the wifi/ethernet it blames it on the DNS servers, which I do not understand why since I was connected to them just the other day.

Way To Keep Ad Hoc Wifi Running 24 / 7

Jul 9, 2011

So I was wondering if there is something I can do so that I don't have to personally intervene whenever the hotspot turns off. It would be even nicer if it just stayed on 24/7, but I'm willing to settle for a macro or bat file that's scheduled to do this in the morning right before people wake up to their morning google.

So specifically, how to reconnect to my_hotspot_name via command lines instead of mouseclicks? That way I can make a bat file and schedule it to run at 5AM or something like that.

Can't Disable Wifi?

Jan 23, 2012

I use windows xp and a BT home hub 2.0, i had my wifi set up so i could enable and disable wifi at my leisure. However every now and then i don't get the option to disable the wifi, so i normally have to reset my default admin password and enter my own password to eventually re use the enable/disabled option. But now i can't even do that so i'm stuck with permanent wifi. I did briefly manage to get the disable/enable option back by reset hub to factory settings but now it has gone again. What can i do? On my home network page where it reads devices currently connected to your BT home hub it has no devices detected for wireless.

I have BT infinity connection with modem /router on ground floor. Wireless signal can be picked up easily until second floor. Third and fourth floors have very poor signal so I have run a cable from modem to top floor - completely hidden so no issues there. On the top floor I have a Netgear network switch FS605 running three cables into three rooms. All works fine. What I want now is to replace the Netgear switch with one that also offers a wi-fi connection so that my iPhone / iPad can connect via wi-fi on the top floor. I still need the wired capability.

Lan And Usb Wifi Can't Connect?

Jan 10, 2013

Problem: My USB wireless network adapter gets a limited connectivity message in the notification tray but no packets are being sent or recieved. It does, however, recognize my network on the available connections list - so it's not totally dead. When I switch to a wired connection I get "no connections available". This is the case even on a new PCI ethernet controller.

Details:Problem happened after installing new memory and clearing the CMOS (to troubleshoot a problem). LAN is working on a fresh Windows install on a different hard drive. Therefore, I've rulled out a hardware failure as the source of the problem.

Device Manager does not list any problems. Everything is recognized. In Network Connections, three Local Area Connections are present and Windows recognizes when the ethernet cable is plugged in. The hardware lights on the wired NIC function properly.Windows Network Diagnostis reports that "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter" and pings to IP addresses like or get a "transmit failed. General failure" message.Everything is set to obtain IP addresses and DNS automatically. Also, I haven't knowingly changed any settings from the time it was working until it/they stopped working.

Ipconfig doesn't list any information. It just reads: Windows IP Configuration
Host Name..............: Monolith
Primary Dns Suffix...:
Node Type...............: Hybrid[code]....

Where I'm at: I can't figure out why both NICs would be giving me trouble at the same time. It seems like Windows just can't handle anything trying to use TCP/IP no matter what I throw at it. Despite Windows knowing about the hardware and thinking everything is fine, it seems like it can't access it correctly to connect.
