How do I setup the LAN connection or use remote desktop? I have a lengthy crossover cable ready (2 sided RJ45 cable). A detailed description so I can follow the procedure to setup at my place. Regarding performance, how good will it be. The CPU has NVidia Graphics card.

I have a Compag Netbook (running Windows XP Home Edition) which will not connect to the internet, however the wireless icon in the tray is telling me that the signal strength is good and that i am connected but i cannot access any webpage. I know it is probably not the modem as we have another netbook in the house which connects no problem, as does our laptop so i'm figuring its something to do with the Compaq netbook??
I've had a look at some of the other queries regarding this on the site and note that you recommend 'ipconfig /all' results so you can gain a better understanding of what the problem might be, so here it is below

I have been trying to connect my laptop (Windows Vista) and my netbook (Windows 7) with a crossover cable, and I have followed every single step of the instructions I have found on the net, including disabling Windows firewall, but it won't do it and when I try to ping the failure seems to be when the netbook tries to ping the laptop (100% loss).

I can only seem to get my laptop on the internet while the wireless router is connected to the modem and then either connecting wirelessly or by connecting my laptop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable.I want to connect to the internet without my wireless router, because someone was hacking our router and was apparently doing illegal downloads. But when I tried to connect my Acer One netbook, the "Cisco Connect" loaded up to 25% & then I couldn't connect to the internet. I've contacted Tech Support & they suggested downloading the latest wireless adapter driver. I contacted Acer & they said it sounded like a security issue on my netbook. I was out of warranty so they'd have to charge $150 for tech support.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like my dcs-930l ip camera to be directly connected to my d-link dsl-321b modem (which has only one rj45 port to connect to), so that I can either access the cam via the internet (watching livestream through webinterface, that would be option 1) or so that the cam sends an email with a picture as soon as the motion sensors activate - that would be option 2 (by the way: the modem / cam get internet access through german telekom / t-online).
I have tried to get option 1 as well as option 2 to work, but I failed... I would be happy if either option 1 or 2 would work for me - I don't really care which one. In both cases, the problem seems to be that the dcs-930l cam cannot access the internet (but the cam itself works - I can view the livestream through the local network).
My gateway net book has always recognized wifi, but since we left home a few weeks ago I have not been able to connect. My computer savvy nephew couldn't even figure it out.

It's been working fine until recently when it suddenly does not see our home wifi connection. It shows a list of all our neighbours routers, just not ours. We have various other devices that can see and connect to it just fine (other PCs & laptops, iPhones & smartphones, MacBook Pro etc) A system restore cured the problem the first couple of times, but now that doesn't work. I've tried resetting & restarting the modem & router dozens of times but it does not appear in the list of available networks for the netbook.
