Netgear Dgn2200 Unable To Change Idle Timeout?

Oct 30, 2012

Modem is a Netgear dgn2200

On the modem page with all the settings Under basic settings For connection it says Always Connected The box underneath says idle timeout 5 (that's in minutes)

I am unable to change that number or even get a cursor to appear in that box (I want to change it to a 0 - my internet connection has been dropping out when going idle). I can't right click or anything. That is using Firefox. When I say dropping out, I mean, the 3 computers on the network become unuseable - nothing works and things don't appear to be connected to the internet even though my green ADSL light stays on like it's connected - it is not.

I tried the same modem page in IE, and that box with the 5 in it is still showing 5, but this time it's just grayed out - again, can't be changed. The firmware updates are all upto date (apparently - according to it's check)

Cisco Firewall :: Asa5510 Idle TCP Connection Timeout With Flags

May 14, 2012

I have ASA 5510 with 8.2.4 and 8.0.x OS and all seem to have common problem of idle TCP connections not timing out. The host to host connections are coming over VPN tunnels. I have default timeouts on all the firewalls. I have tried changing global timeouts and as well as host specific timeouts using MPF but doesn't work at all ! The problem is when TCP connections are sitting idle in conn table for days and when connection limit of 50,000 conns reach the firewall starts behaving unpredictably dropping packets or unresponsive! I need the unused idle connections to timeout which is NOT happening either by changing global values or MPF.

The idle timeout configured is 900 sec.
Why the behavior is different in this type of devices? Increase the idle timeout is a solution?

Cisco Application :: CSS 11503 Flow Idle Timeout Not Working As Expected?

Jan 20, 2012

I have a CSS 11503 with a basic content rule for TCP 10000 going to a few backend servers. I was looking into the default timeout values for flows and when testing using telnet the flow didn't terminate as expected?
For example, i have no 'timeout multiplier' specified in the config and when i look at the output of 'show flow-timeout default' it tells me the default 16 seconds timeout is in effect for *. With that in mind, i telnet to the content rule vip on TCP 10000 and on the backend server using wireshark i can see the TCP threeway handshake. With no data passing i'd expect the CSS to terminate this flow after 16 seconds.. yet it takes exactly 128 seconds before wireshark shows the RST and the flow is terminated. 128 being 8 times the default 16 second flow timeout.
If i try to force the connection to close early by specifiying 'flow-timeout-multiplier 2' in the content rule, or even a multiplier of 40, it still waits 128 seconds to close the telnet connection.

Cisco Switches :: SG300-20 - Radius Idle And Session Timeout Does Not Work

Jan 25, 2012

I have an SG300-20 here for testing (firmware:, boot version:, language version: English). Everything seems to work on it, except, that if I choose Radius authentication by mac address only, then the switch does not honor the Idle-Timeout and Session-Timeout attributes from the Radius server (freeradius).
The setup is the following: I have a no name access point plugged in to switch port gi1. The port gi1 is set up for Radius authentication by mac address only. The access point itself is authenticated, no problem with that. If I connect through the access point by (say) a mobile phone, it is authenticated, no problem. The radius server does send the Idle-Timeout and Session-Timeout attributes, I checked it by running "freeradius -X", both are set to 30 seconds. Then I turn off the wireless card in my mobile phone and check the dot1x users by "show dot1x users". My mobile phone's mac address remains there for 5-10 minutes, so the Idle-Timeout and Session-Timeout  does not work.
Another way I could resolv this problem is by explicitely asking the switch to reauthenticate the user. Unfortunately there is no CLI command to do just that, I can do however a reauthentication on a port using "dot1x re-authenticate gi1" (for example). But it does not work as it is expected: the switch uses the stored mac-address to reauthenticate the user, so nothing changes on the port (unless something changes in the radius server). I think it should work like the following: remove the authenticated user from the port, and whenever that mac address makes some network traffic, then reauthenticate as if it were a completely new connection. BTW: it would work for me also if I could just remove an authenticated user from a port, but I did not find a command to do that.
As a last resort I can simply shutdown the port, bring it up again ("shutdown" and "no shutdown" in the interface config), then all users are removed from the port and they all mush reauthenticate. But it causes a network outage for a couple of seconds for all users on that port, on a busy access point it is quite disturbing, and it is not an elegant way to do this.
So my actual question is: is there a way to remove an authenticated user either automatically (Idle-Timeout and Session-Timeout) or manually from this switch?
I enclose the relevant part of the running config.

interface range gi1-2
dot1x host-mode multi-sessions
vlan database
vlan 2-4

Netgear Dgn2200 Losing Connection?

Aug 25, 2012

I currently have a Netgear dgn2200 n300 wireless router (acts as a modem, you know all in one thing), and I have configured the settings on it so I can have an open nat type/port forwarded for gaming and so on. I have my xbox and the desktop connected to it via ethernet and my ipod and laptop connected wireless.

The problem is that the internet just drops out for a couple of mins every hour or so whether I or whoever is on it or not. I have tried changing the cables and filter for the phone line but nothing has seemed to work. Occasionally when the internet drops out it doesn't come back on so I have to unplug the router and so on to get it to work.

It's just starting to get annoying getting disconnected so often especially when the router cost like $200 and is supposed to be good for gaming and stuff, and I can't seem to find out why or isolate the problem. My internet download speed is fairly quick (I can get 1.5mb/s say when downloading a movie/hd youtube) and I get 70 GB a month.

Losing Internet Connection Netgear DGN2200?

Jul 9, 2012

I have a Netgear DGN2200 router/modem and have been having this problem for a while now. Every so often the internet will cut out for roughly 30-60 seconds. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the connection losses and they can happen at any time in the day (overall it seems to occur every hour and a half, although it can vary). When the internet connection is lost, the little "!" triangle appears at the bottom right. I still have wireless access to the router itself. It also occurs on both my wired computer and the wireless computer. On the Netgear itself, the internet light will either flash rapidly green, or sometimes turn red for a short while. The Netgear is plugged via a splitter into the telephone socket. the old neatgear we had did the exact same thing before it finally died and no longer worked at all. Hence why we replaced it with this one. I also rang AOL about the problem, who said that there may be a problem with the line and that we should ring BT about it. We had the line checked and apparently the line was fine and was not the cause of the problem. Things I have tried include changing the router channel and I have tried changing the splitter in case that was faulty. Do you think it could be a DSL problem on AOL's end? It's possible that the drops coincided with a free upgrade they gave us for faster internet, although time-wise I'm not entirely sure.

Netgear Dgn2200 Router Configuration / Disconnecting

Sep 9, 2012

I am having trouble with my modem/router the netgear dgn2200 n300. I bought it to replace my older netgear modem/router (same model v2 to v3).The problem is I just keep getting disconnected say every hour or so when I am using the internet and sometimes it can disconnect me 2-3 times in half an hour. I have removed the filter/splitter and plugged the dsl cord from the netgear straight into the wall bypassing the filter and I still get disconnected. When I am online I receive great connectivity and I consider the bandwidth to be just fine for my needs. My question is what do I have to do in the settings of the router or in my internet properties for it to stop disconnecting me as it gets frustrating. I will take any advice except for "get a new router" or "do an isolation test" blah. Simply because 1. It happened with my old router and with my netcomm modem. 2. I have already done an isolation test and somethings not configured properly I think so, I am no networking wizard.

Netgear DGN2200 - Desktop Won't Connect To Laptop?

Nov 19, 2012

I have a desktop and a laptop connected to one router, my desktop is connected via ethernet wire and my laptop is connected via wireless.

Here's the problem, on my desktop under "Network" in the Windows Explorer, I can see my laptop's name as well as my desktop's name. But when I want to go into my laptop it says "Windows cannot access \<laptop name>".

But, if I go onto my laptop and do the same thing, it works perfectly, no errors, no problems. Both of them have their IPs automatically assigned as well as the DNS server address. Both have File Sharing enabled and both have Network Discovery enabled.

My desktop has Windows 7 64-bit and my laptop has Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I have tried disabling both firewalls, no luck. I used to be able to connect to my laptop, but now I can't. But I can connect to my desktop through my laptop. My router is a NETGEAR DGN2200

Setting Web / FTP Home Server With Netgear DGN2200 And Zyxel USG100 With Firewall

Jun 15, 2013

I want to public to the internet a web + ftp server, all running in the same machine that now is a performance pc, in the future will be a qnap nas ts-220. I don't need extreme performance so my ISP gives me only 12 Mb down and 0,8 Mb up. I will use the nas as download station, ftp server and a web server when I'll public a personal site.

this is the config:

-modem/router adsl2+ that connects to the internet. ISP gives me dynamic ip! it has ip and I think it cannot be changed.

-a firewall hardware zyxel usg 100 with all active UTM services. it has default ip the netgear in the "attached devices" see the zyxel as, the same ip zyxel says to the wan1 port.

-a pc or, in the future, a nas that now has automatically assigned ip

I must use a free or paied service as dyndns or something else. If the solution to retrieve everytime the dynamic ip is to set the ddns only in the router/modem netgear then it can only use or .com or .it with the dns of the associated ddns service. For example: if I set a account in the netgear I must set also the dns provided by because if I set google dns or something else the service cannot work.At the moment I tested only with a filezilla server running on the pc directly connected to the netgear, no zyxel in this test.

The config is:

netgear with ddns service provided by, activated with the username and password, in the wan I setup the dmz as, in the adsl settings setup the IPs. in the services of the netgear also provided a custom service with ports from 60000 to 60050 and created two rules one for outbound and one for inbound where I let data pass from the wan to the server in the lan

filezilla running on the pc with windows 7 x64 with lan ip mask as th3 netgear and gateway of course the netgear dns servers same as provided by filezilla configured with only one anonym user without password for testing, default listening port is 60000, passive mode active with range 60000-60050 and for retrieving IP I set default, no host cause it will not work.

So configured it works fine!problem is when I connect the zyxel between the netgear and the change the default ip of zyxel? in configuration - ethernet - lan port is correct to set there the default and static ip to there are many options! same as dmz you can set there the static ip and what ip?also when you want to public a server zyxel don't say nothing about port-forwarding. it says only create two address objects one with ip of the netgear and one with the ip of the dmz port then create a rule in the firewall section where you set wan to dmz and destination and origin ip selecting the two address objects previously created then you are, really no! and the ip of the firewall rules in the netgear? which ip do you must set? or if you set it up in the dmz port of the zyxel? no, it is a conflict so you must set another set correctly the server to be visible in the internet with the netgear + zyxel usg 100?
