Netgear Dgn2200 Router Configuration / Disconnecting
Sep 9, 2012
I am having trouble with my modem/router the netgear dgn2200 n300. I bought it to replace my older netgear modem/router (same model v2 to v3).The problem is I just keep getting disconnected say every hour or so when I am using the internet and sometimes it can disconnect me 2-3 times in half an hour. I have removed the filter/splitter and plugged the dsl cord from the netgear straight into the wall bypassing the filter and I still get disconnected. When I am online I receive great connectivity and I consider the bandwidth to be just fine for my needs. My question is what do I have to do in the settings of the router or in my internet properties for it to stop disconnecting me as it gets frustrating. I will take any advice except for "get a new router" or "do an isolation test" blah. Simply because 1. It happened with my old router and with my netcomm modem. 2. I have already done an isolation test and somethings not configured properly I think so, I am no networking wizard.

I currently have a Netgear dgn2200 n300 wireless router (acts as a modem, you know all in one thing), and I have configured the settings on it so I can have an open nat type/port forwarded for gaming and so on. I have my xbox and the desktop connected to it via ethernet and my ipod and laptop connected wireless.
The problem is that the internet just drops out for a couple of mins every hour or so whether I or whoever is on it or not. I have tried changing the cables and filter for the phone line but nothing has seemed to work. Occasionally when the internet drops out it doesn't come back on so I have to unplug the router and so on to get it to work.
It's just starting to get annoying getting disconnected so often especially when the router cost like $200 and is supposed to be good for gaming and stuff, and I can't seem to find out why or isolate the problem. My internet download speed is fairly quick (I can get 1.5mb/s say when downloading a movie/hd youtube) and I get 70 GB a month.

I have a Netgear DGN2200 router/modem and have been having this problem for a while now. Every so often the internet will cut out for roughly 30-60 seconds. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the connection losses and they can happen at any time in the day (overall it seems to occur every hour and a half, although it can vary). When the internet connection is lost, the little "!" triangle appears at the bottom right. I still have wireless access to the router itself. It also occurs on both my wired computer and the wireless computer. On the Netgear itself, the internet light will either flash rapidly green, or sometimes turn red for a short while. The Netgear is plugged via a splitter into the telephone socket. the old neatgear we had did the exact same thing before it finally died and no longer worked at all. Hence why we replaced it with this one. I also rang AOL about the problem, who said that there may be a problem with the line and that we should ring BT about it. We had the line checked and apparently the line was fine and was not the cause of the problem. Things I have tried include changing the router channel and I have tried changing the splitter in case that was faulty. Do you think it could be a DSL problem on AOL's end? It's possible that the drops coincided with a free upgrade they gave us for faster internet, although time-wise I'm not entirely sure.

I have a desktop and a laptop connected to one router, my desktop is connected via ethernet wire and my laptop is connected via wireless.
Here's the problem, on my desktop under "Network" in the Windows Explorer, I can see my laptop's name as well as my desktop's name. But when I want to go into my laptop it says "Windows cannot access \<laptop name>".
But, if I go onto my laptop and do the same thing, it works perfectly, no errors, no problems. Both of them have their IPs automatically assigned as well as the DNS server address. Both have File Sharing enabled and both have Network Discovery enabled.
My desktop has Windows 7 64-bit and my laptop has Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I have tried disabling both firewalls, no luck. I used to be able to connect to my laptop, but now I can't. But I can connect to my desktop through my laptop. My router is a NETGEAR DGN2200

I cant work out how to get my Netgear DGN2200v3 to port forward.Portforward.com describes how to port forward for a Netgear DGN2200 but NOT for the DGN2200v3.The difference between the DGN2200 and the DGN2200v3 is that when I log into the router and go to port forwarding/port triggering there is no box to fill in the server IP address. It just says service name, service type, starting port, ending port.

Modem is a Netgear dgn2200
On the modem page with all the settings Under basic settings For connection it says Always Connected The box underneath says idle timeout 5 (that's in minutes)
I am unable to change that number or even get a cursor to appear in that box (I want to change it to a 0 - my internet connection has been dropping out when going idle). I can't right click or anything. That is using Firefox. When I say dropping out, I mean, the 3 computers on the network become unuseable - nothing works and things don't appear to be connected to the internet even though my green ADSL light stays on like it's connected - it is not.
I tried the same modem page in IE, and that box with the 5 in it is still showing 5, but this time it's just grayed out - again, can't be changed. The firmware updates are all upto date (apparently - according to it's check)

I have a netgear DGN2200 router with a USB port built in. I also have a WD External Hard drive, When using the hard drive plugged directly into my laptop I get transfer speeds of roughly 20 mb/s,However when I plug the hard drive into the router and transfer wireless i only get 1.2 mb/s.Also I'm looking to get a USB > Ethernet adapter, would this increase transfer speeds wirelessly? If not how do I go about increase transfer speeds?

I recently purchased the netgear n300 ADSL2+ modem router. I have tried all day to get it to work, but I have not have any success.
ISP: Verizon (Now frontier I think)
DSL light will be solid green, along with the port, wifi, etc... But the internet one stays solid red.I've tried changing dns settings and things, but to no avail. Though I am able to login to the router, and I can get internet if I directly connect to the modem.

My Netgear DGN2200 (Name NetgearCS) won't check for firmware upgrade because it says no connection to internet so unable to connect to the Netgear Servers - Yet this laptop I am currently using (wireless connection is turned off on laptop but not router) is wire connected to this same Netgear router and I have internet connection because I am able to post this enquiry. Note the Netgear DGN2200 router gets its internet connection from my Sky Router and is connected by wire to this Sky Router. FYI my iPhone is connected wirelessly to this Netgear DGN200 router (NetgearCS) and is able to connect to the internet. Do you know why my Netgear DGN2200 cannot check for firmware updates?

I want to public to the internet a web + ftp server, all running in the same machine that now is a performance pc, in the future will be a qnap nas ts-220. I don't need extreme performance so my ISP gives me only 12 Mb down and 0,8 Mb up. I will use the nas as download station, ftp server and a web server when I'll public a personal site.
this is the config:
-modem/router adsl2+ that connects to the internet. ISP gives me dynamic ip! it has 192.168.0.1 ip and I think it cannot be changed.
-a firewall hardware zyxel usg 100 with all active UTM services. it has default ip 192.168.1.1. the netgear in the "attached devices" see the zyxel as 192.168.0.2, the same ip zyxel says to the wan1 port.
-a pc or, in the future, a nas that now has automatically assigned ip 192.168.1.34.
I must use a free or paied service as dyndns or something else. If the solution to retrieve everytime the dynamic ip is to set the ddns only in the router/modem netgear then it can only use dyndns.org or .com or .it with the dns of the associated ddns service. For example: if I set a dyndns.it account in the netgear I must set also the dns provided by dyndns.it because if I set google dns or something else the service cannot work.At the moment I tested only with a filezilla server running on the pc directly connected to the netgear, no zyxel in this test.
The config is:
netgear with ddns service provided by dyndns.it, activated with the username and password, in the wan I setup the dmz as 192.168.0.2, in the adsl settings setup the dyndns.it IPs. in the services of the netgear also provided a custom service with ports from 60000 to 60050 and created two rules one for outbound and one for inbound where I let data pass from the wan to the server in the lan 192.168.0.2.
filezilla running on the pc with windows 7 x64 with lan ip 192.168.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0 as th3 netgear and gateway of course the netgear 192.168.0.1. dns servers same as provided by dyndns.it. filezilla configured with only one anonym user without password for testing, default listening port is 60000, passive mode active with range 60000-60050 and for retrieving IP I set default, no Dyndns.it host cause it will not work.
So configured it works fine!problem is when I connect the zyxel between the netgear and the server.how change the default ip of zyxel? in configuration - ethernet - lan port is correct to set there the default and static ip to 192.168.0.3? there are many options! same as dmz you can set there the static ip and what ip?also when you want to public a server zyxel don't say nothing about port-forwarding. it says only create two address objects one with ip of the netgear and one with the ip of the dmz port then create a rule in the firewall section where you set wan to dmz and destination and origin ip selecting the two address objects previously created then you are ok...no, really no! and the ip of the firewall rules in the netgear? which ip do you must set? 192.168.0.2? or 192.168.0.5 if you set it up in the dmz port of the zyxel? no, it is a conflict so you must set another ip.to set correctly the server to be visible in the internet with the netgear + zyxel usg 100?

I have a Netgear Wireless USB Adapter (WNA3100) for my PC. The router is in the other room (approx 5-6 meters away) connected to my flatmates laptop. The adapter worked fine for almost two months, but at the past 2 weeks it keeps disconnecting in every 2-15 minutes, for 1-3 minutes. I have Windows 7 and I'm not familiar with networking issues so the only thing I did was to reinstall the driver and update it, but this didn't work.

My PC can't seem to keep the wireless connection for longer than a few seconds without it trying to reconnect and eventually drop again. Other family members' PCs don't seem to have this problem and my laptop also has a stable connection.
I used to have no problem connecting, but this problem arose one day. My house uses Verizon FIoS, the router is a Netgear R3600 and my PC uses AVG.
The picture has the signal showing up, but then it disappears seconds later only to reappear again.

Even though the router has a lease for the computer on 192.168.1.11 it's doesn't work, although it will show that it's connecting, it won't ping anything, including the router... WZC utility is stopped?

Our ISP provided a DSL modem/router (Netopia) that I connected to the Netgear wireless router with dd-wrt flashed. All I've done so far is connected the two. I have a connection, but I want to know if it's possible or advisable to configure everything from the Netgear router. But following the instructions here[URL], it seems I have to configure DNS and such using the Netopia router. I don't have a full grasp on how to use them together the correct way - like using the Netopia as an ethernet bridge.

I am currently experiencing difficulties setting up a Netgear router (WNR834B). The router I had been using previously allowed me to access the internet, but frequently dropped the connection, especially when I connected to it via my laptop. I have the new router set up correctly (I even get a signal from it) but both the desktop computer I set it up through and my laptop cannot access the internet. When I diagnose the connection issue I get the message "The network adapter "Local Area Connection" does not have a valid IP configuration."

I couldn't connect wirelessly to my NETGEAR router because of the "DNS server isn't responding" error.I then eventually made the rather dumb mistake of doing a factory reset, so now the router isn't even in range apparently Therefore I connected to the router with a wired connection and after a "Investigate router or broadband modem issues" error I eventually came to the error in the title.Currently I'm connected directly via my virgin modem with a wired connection, so this is my means of creating this thread.
Below is what i got from ipconfig /all using a wired connection to my router.

I tried a couple things like resetting to factory config, giving myself a static adress (since the logg was spamming the dhcp over my PC) Unfortuantly, none seem to work. so far it does a great job but the connection dropps are really annoying. I have 2 laptop, a Toshiba and a MSi, both wirelessly connected to a Zyxel router. The toshiba laptop worked just fine for me, never disconnect, but the MSi started to act up since I got this router. Sometimes it disconnect from the router every 5 mins, it can still detect the network, but then I have to troubleshoot it to reset the adapter if I want to reconnect it. The problem I got from the troubleshoot is " Problems with adapter or access point". Before I bought this router for the current cable service, I had a DSL service, my laptops can connect wirelessly to the DSL modem, without router and they worked just fine, so I don't know if the problem is from the router or the laptop.I searched for solutions everywhere on the internet, yet they are the same : update firmware, drivers,.I even reinstalled windows so many times yet it remains the same.

This keeps happening, the router keeps disconnecting from the internet every 5 seconds. What can be going on? I have already logged into the dlink admin and changed the RTS Threshold to 2304. After that, it worked for a couple of days, and now its back to disconnecting again. What can be wrong? If you need any additional info. just let me know.

It's a D-Link Wireless N 150.I constantly get an "Excellent" signal from the router, but my HP Mini netbook keeps disconnecting and re-connecting. It happens three to ten times in each hour, and it re-connects quickly, but the hiccup is annoying. Once in a blue moon, it'll disconnect and refuse to re-connect for a while.Other items that use the router--our iPhones, our Nintendo 3DS's, our Wii, our Xbox--don't have an issue. My netbook doesn't have a problem if I use wireless somewhere else, like in a coffee shop or McDonalds or wherever.I've tried updating my drivers, without much luck.
