I built my first computer yesterday and everything went amazing. Unfortunately, I am having trouble simply connecting to the internet via wired, ethernet, cables. I can connect wirelessly but I need to connect wired as well. My IP when I am only using a wire starts as 169..I know this typically means there is a problem with my router, however, due to the fact that my laptop can use the wire router perfectly fine but my computer doesn't I am at a loss. I have downloaded the ethernet drivers but I don't know what to do.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Scientific Linux 6.2 (Variant of RHEL / CentOS) . Every day at a particular time there is a power outage at my place, and after 1 hour power is restored. My laptop is connected to a network switch, that has no Backup power, and connection is disconnected when power is gone. Laptop keeps running in battery power.
Now when power is restored, the ethernet connection (eth0) is not automatically restored in linux. It only says connection available under wired connection. The same thing happens to the Wireless Network Connections. What can I do to automatically connect to these networks, whenever they are available?
i have 2 laptops (1. Dell 2. IBM) and both of them worked wirelessly with BT until last month when I switched to talktalk. Dell s laptop now works wirelessly but the IBM isnt working either wired/wiressly. When I connect the IBM laptop to the modem through the cable my Dell laptop stops working too, looses the wireless configuration too and in order to make it work again I have to plug it back to the modem andafterwards going wirelessly. I spoke to talktalk support and they confirmed that the line works fine therefore there is a problem with the IBM laptop which also causes problems to the DellLaptop.I domt know from where to start to get the laptops working again fine at the same time.

In both cases i had to move to different housing and internet connection went without a hitch. However i'm now at my new place, and i cant seem to get my desktop computer to connect to the internet. After 8 different campus tech crews came through, they've determined that the connection issue is not caused on their end. The issue as far as i can tell is not caused by the cable either because i got internet access when i bridged the connection using my laptop's wireless connection. I have also used the cable to connect to the internet on my laptop. However, when i try to connect on my desktop it says that that ethernet cable is not connected. No link light comes on, and the connection is not recognized at all.

My partner has got the wireless working perfectly on her laptop and I got wifi working on my phone with no problems, so I think it must be something specific with my computer.

I recently got Fios installed in my home. I believe there is a box the size of a power box in the back room for the Internet.All my other devices (MAC, iPod, Blueray Player) are able to recieve instant and unbelieveable internet connection except for my Dell. I have a Studio XPS Dell computer with windows 7. I plugged in the ethernet cable in the back of my computer and into the "Fios Box" but i didn't recieve any internet. Then i bought a wireless adapter and I do get internet but it disconnects me like every 5 minutes.

Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? View 1 Replies View RelatedLast week I was using my laptop when suddenly it disconnected from the internet. I tried fixing it the next day, and even though there were full bars, it wouldn't connect to the network. I restarted my router multiple times and nothing. So, after a fit of anger and messing with different settings on my computer. For some reason, I was able to connect to the internet 2 or 3 times over the past week for about 10-15 minutes before it would disconnect me for the rest of the day.. So, I'm honestly so stumped. I thought maybe it might have just been my router, but I'm at my dad's house now and I'm not able to connect to his network, either. I might need to go ahead an order a new wireless adapter, but neither of us are that well with computers/networking. I'm hooked up via Ethernet cord which seems to be working fine, but my wireless is only able to read and not actually connect. (On occasion it will actually connect to the internet, but when it does I can't actually access the internet)I've tried uninstalling my wireless adapter, disabling/enabling it, a bunch of weird commands that I don't even know what they do (.. probably shouldn't have messed with those), stopping/restarting services, etc.

Now that the wireless on my Dell XPS 15 Z is fine, I've run into some problems with internet connectivity with Ethernet cable. Since the beginning, I wasn't able to connect to it through cable. When I connect my laptop with the cable, it says that it's connected, and that it has an internet connection. However, I can't get on it... My browsers don't have internet, and other programs can't connect either. (that while it says that it's connected to internet, quite strange)... I was thinking of some security adjustment that might block the internet connection or something, I don't know.
Oh, something that I should mention... I was able to get internet through Ethernet cable when there was a firewall... But when there's no security to the network... It isn't possible to have internet and it gives the situation described above. (any other laptop can connect with the network, so there must be some adjustment issue...)
I have one computer that is unable to connect to the internet. This is a wired desktop running Vista. I have several wireless devices around the house that can connect fine, so I know that it is not the internet. I have tried a system restore, I have reset the router and rebooted the computer. The network diagnostics says there might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer....I have tried all of those solutions as well. When I look at the device manager I see a yellow exclamation point beside "isatap.domain.invalid". Does this mean that my network card is out??? Computer is now out of warranty

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Westell 2110 wired DSL modem for Frontier (formerly Verizon). It's not a modem that has a web interface, so I can't log into it to change any settings. It also, to my knowledge, has no bridge mode (which is a term I know very little about). I had an old D-Link WBR2310 router, and since I knew the wireless and the phones ran on the same frequency, I bought a new Linksys e1200 router. Unfortunately, when I went through the setup of the router, while I know I have a solid internet connection from the modem (I'm hard wired in as I type), and while I can connect to the router, I am unable to connect to the internet. I took down my IP address, DNS servers, subnet mask, and default gateway, and set up the router to run under a Static IP, which it does phenomenally. Unfortunately, when the ISP (via direct line or my modem) changes the IP address after a few hours, my connection drops and I have to go reset up the connection via a hard wire, taking down the information, etc. Why is this the only way I can set up my connection? What could I be doing that I'm not to get it running DHCP correctly? It worked on my WBR 2310.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy BEFSR81 router has never been a problem for over 10 years.All of a sudden I can not connect to the internet..I only use the router for connecting 2 PCs to the internet modem. I have not changed any configuration. tried my IPS COX recommendation to disconnect the power for about 1 minute then try again with no luck. CoX said they tried pinging my router but could not get a reading. While waiting for them to come up with a solution, I hooked one of my PCs directly to the modem. It worked. So I tried it with the other PC. But it didn't work right away. It kept trying to dial up for a connection. I finally got the WIZARD to get it configured correctly. I assume it must be a router problem because either one of my PCs can get an internet connection when hooked to the modem. I did not pusue any further with COX, THEIR AUTOMATED TROUBLE SHOOTER WAS GETTING ON MY NERVES.Should I take the time to resolve the issue with the router or buy a new or refurbished router? If the task isn't too complicatged, I am willing to try and fix it.

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy dad is using a netgear router DG834G V2 and has no problem until recently. He got a new phone and wanted to connect wirelessly but couldn't remember is network key. After playing around with things he's obviuosley changed something and now has no internet what so ever.
I've tried plugging in the eternet cable and accessing 192.168.0.1 but can't see any problems there. When i am able to get a connection it's local only and Internet explorer can't display web pages. And when i unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't always find the wireless connection, and if it does find it, then i have the same problem as when the lead is plugged in.
His ISP is AOL although he doesn't always access the internet via aol, he'll use IE and i'm trying to get him to give firefox a go.
I have tried disabled both windows firewall and AVG firewall and individually but still keep getting the message internet explorer cannot display webpage.

im using linksys broadband router model no WRT54GC firmware version 1.06....im using it since 2005 still now i didn't face any problem, but since 3days im facing a problem all of a sudden. i.e im unable to connect through Ethernet port ( through lan wire) to my PC, but i can access router through wifi.when i connect through wifi it is saying that there is no internet access. but i can access my router administration.i cross checked with another pc and another connecting cable , but same problem, no use i also tried resetting my router, updated my firmware. no use.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR-655 that's wired via 40' of Cat5 Ethernet cable to a bus near my Sony HDTV. I get great reception and speed and all the available HD channels via my Time Warner Cable subscription.
My problem is that since subscribing to NetFlix (streaming only) when I stream a NetFlix movie I get "reloading/pauses" every few minutes. NetFlix says it requires 1.5 Mbps but Internet speed tests show I'm consistently getting between 5 and 10 Mbps.
I also have a Sony 3D DVD Player that is NetFlix enabled and when the pausing gets too bad I switch to it and sometimes it works, at other times it pauses just as frequently as the TV.
I always turn the PC off when watching TV.

I've recently replaced my router with this Belkin (F5D7230uk4) Router, (this one without the wireless reciever Whenever it's used for online gaming, either on my computer, my playstation 3, or my brothers computer the router will lose connection after about 5minutes, then return within about 30 seconds. This happens every single time without exception, and have not been able to play for longer than 10minutes on any occasion since changing the router. I've tried connecting straight to the modem and it all functions correctly with no problems, so I am certain that it is something that needs to be setup with the router. I've searched many forums and posts from people having similar problems, and followed instructions to disable router firewall, disabled UPnP and NAT etc with absolutely no success whatsoever.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the DIR-655, Rev. B running 2.07NA firmware, and have a strange problem with my wired clients. I have my primary computer/desktop PC connected via wired connection. I also have several wireless clients (laptop, iPad, iPhones, etc.). All have been performing normally. However, in December I connected a wired weather internet bridge to another ethernet port on the DIR-655.
It functions as it is supposed to, and all other connected devices do as well. But here's the problem - whenever I use the desktop PC (the only other wired connection) to do anything on the internet (mostly just web browsing ... I don't stream media from the internet on it, I don't do torrents....nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing really of high bandwidth), the wired weather bridge cannot communicate with its associated website. This continues as long as I'm using the desktop PC. When I stop using the desktop, the weather bridge resumes normally.
I have researched the weather bridge, and it is simply doing POST transactions (or so I'm told) to the website listening to it. It doesn't wait for acknowledgements or anything...just keeps POSTing updates. I tried reserving an IP for the weather bridge and the desktop, enabling QoS, and prioritizing the weather bridge (100 vs. desktop at 125), but it didn't work. I've tried moving the weather bridge into the DMZ. I'm totally baffled how just using the desktop to browse the internet could completely block the traffic from the weather bridge.
On the weather bridge support site, they suggested that I insure I'm not connected in gigabit speeds from my computer to the router, because in the past that has been known to cause issues on clients not running that speed, but I don't think my desktop is connected in that fashion. According to the settings, it can do 10 or 100, full or half. I have it set to AUTO.
I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login. I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password. I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected. First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected. But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine. When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported. Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable. I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work.The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

I went into the disk and tried to manually reinstall but it just installed and didn't work. I can't see the network adapter under the device manager it's like it's gone. It's a custom built system on xp.
