I'm trying to connect my laptop to w wifi hotspot. It connects but I can't browse the internet. I've tried turning off firewalls and security but no joy. I'm using chrome and get an error message 105 about being unable to resolve DNS?
View 1 Repliesi can connect to my wifi but not the internet...I've connected it to the same network using an ethernet cable and it all works fine, the same can be said for when i connect to any other wireless network.. It only seems to be my wireless network which doesnt work... We recently changed our internet in the house from bt to virgin, and this was when the problem started.

I've got wireless internet which I access on two laptops and an ipod touch.Recently, on the ipod touch I have been able to browse for a while then the internet stops loading pages. It shows I am still connected but I have to turn off the WIFI and then turn it back on again and reconnect and everything is ok for a while.Now it is starting to happen on one of the Windows XP Home laptops.I browse for a while, then pages stop loading. I am still connected. If I turn the WIFI adapter on the laptop off then on again and reconnect I can surf for a while. During the period I cannot surf on the laptop I can on the ipod so there is a live connection beyond the router.

Unable to connect to DNS server/browse internet
i have an existing wifi capable router CDR King LP-8186 originally we use this to network 3 computers (1 Laptop and 2 Desktop) we use wired network and we have no problem until i purchased the Wireless Broadband (USB Dongle) in which i am using to connect to theinternet.The Wireless Broadband is having a DNS error if i am wired to LP-8186 and i can't browse the internet but if i unplug the wire it can connect.I Just want to use the Wireless Broadband (USB Dongle) to have an internet connection while am also wired to CDR King LP-8186 router (without buying new router that can accomodate both)

My wifi is working but it keeps sending me firefox cant find the server at... message. It said that the firewall or proxy could be doing it but i cant find a problem with it. My computer had just updated so i dont know if that could be the issue. My other computer is working just fine so i know its not the router. My computer has done with before but i cant remember how i fix it and if im not mistaken my computer had updated when it happen the last time, but im not 100% sure.

Wireless users can connect to the network, and log on to the domain without any apparent 'issues'. They can access domain resources. However, they cannot browse the domain in Network Neighborhood. Interestingly, they can map a drive to shares on the servers, so long as they manually type in the path. This occurs with desktops running Windows 7 Pro, 32 and 64 bit; XP Pro SP1, 32 and 64 bit; ditto for laptops. The wireless NICs vary as to manufacturer, but do include Trendnet, Intel Centrino, and Intel Pro 100/1000. If I connect any of these machines via by wire, they can access all domain resources and browse the domain in Network Neighborhood in the usual manner.

However, when I try on other laptops, they are able to surf the net. I have tried using my laptop at my friend's place with a different wireless router and it works at his place as I was able to surf the internet through my wireless! I think you dont have the browser inbuilt with these, even if it there then it is genrally cumbersome to browse through their ever evolving interfaces.Additionally you cant view contents on your laptop(obviously you are not routed via a laptop!)2/USB wireless adapters like Warpia where you hook one usb enable device like a pendrive in your laptop and connect a small base to TV which is also wireless enable and then these two transmit A/V signals. Sounds great as then your laptop becomes the source and remote. this is closest to my need but i am not sure of over all practicality of the solution. 3/Nettops where you buy a cheap nettop and hookup the nettop to TV and use wireless keyboards and mouse to browse the contents on TV 4/I saw some gaming consoles like Xbox and PS3 offering the ability of browsing intenert over TV, though for this purpose this may not be the best solution...but this I considered due to price comparision with nettop.

The rest of the time I switch over to a tethered 4G connection, having to change the proxy configuration in my browser(s). I use both IE and Firefox. I know that the laptop connects to both networks simultaneously, but the Ethernet connection is given priority when connected. Is there a way to have say my Firefox browser configured to use the tethered connection using no proxy, while simultaneously having my IE use the Ethernet connection with the proxy configuration?
