View 3 RepliesI've been having a problem for a while now wherein my internet connection seems to randomly drop for anywhere from ten seconds to a minute, then come back online. It's been doing this over the lifespan of one router, and continued into the life of this new one I have, which is a WNDR3700v3 Netgear.
I called my ISP and they fiddled around with things on my computer, but the issue is still going on. Rather than slog through another three hours with them, does anyone here have any tips for what I might look into for the cause?
I've been having this issue with my wireless connection for quite a few months now and up until now I've just dealt with it. With the release of Diablo 3 (whoo!) it's become unbearable with this lag spikes. My ping will be fine, steady around 50-90 but then randomly spike upwards of 400. After a few moments (literally a second or two) it'll drop back down to it's normal speed. This happens in all online games I play, WoW, League of Legends, DotA 2 and now Diablo 3, I have roadrunner and pay for 25 download and 1 upload so it should be more than enough to play the games I'd like, I'm also running on windows 7. I think part of the problem could be the fact that the router is in the basement and I'm on the second story. I have a netgear wndr3700v3 router and I set up a repeater in my room to see if that would work (asus rt-n12 router) and although it has increased my speed, I still have these ping spikes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a DIR 615 (firmware 4.0) which I am using as an access point linked to a Netopia router. The Netopia has QoS enabled and needs to keep it, however I was hoping to use the DIR615 without QoS. I am using a ReadyNas Duo as storage for music, videos etc. Now, here are my issues which I think are all linked.
1) I have a very slow connection wireless, between 1'500 and 2'000kbits/sec download. This was not the case with my very old Linksys router
2) When I try to rip a CD from iTunes to the NAS, it brings up error messages of lost connection and impossibility to rip in the middle of the songs. I did not have that problem with the Linksys router neither.
3) I would like to change the QoS parameters to see how it affects this connection issue, as well as change other Wifi parameters, but they show up as greyed out and I can't change them. (I feel that the DIR 615 might inherit some parameters from the main router, since it is used as an Access Point).
I've had my WRT54GL for a few months now and have two computers that are wired and 3 that are wireless. I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe laptop can connect to the internet using the wifi card. However, it cannot connect to the internet when using the wired connection but it can be pinged from other machines at work. The NIC does not pick up a different IP address even after releasing and renewing the IP address through cmd. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the NIC. The NIC is working because when I set a static IP address the machine can connect to the net. Using DHCP it goes back to that same IP address. I have tried a winsock repair as well with no go, as well as taking the machine off the domain and re-joining it. Is there something I can do on my end to get a different IP address through DHCP or do I have to get a Network engineer involved? This is a machine on a corporate LAN?

I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly. But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection droppedThe only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. It says unknown host).
My wireless connection will only let me connect one laptop at a time using the wlan cable connected it wont work without it.I Had no problems previously with it connecting to the wireless without having the cable connected so im stubbed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless connection on my laptop keeps disconnecting. It seems like it disconnects every 5-10 minutes. I know it's not my router because my cousin came over and had zero problems with his wireless connection. I have to reset my laptop at least once a day because it decides there are no wireless connections and I can no longer right click it if this happens. Every once and a while I'll just have to unplug my router and plus it back in to fix the problem if trouble shooting wont work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBut i can still navigate around on a computer. So i have a gateway laptop, and a cisco router in my parent bedroom. They have computer's connected into it with a wired connection. My laptop is a wireless one. The connection will drop roughly 10 times a day. And the odd thing is , to get the connection to show back up on my wireless connection lists, i need to restart the router or it doesnt show. Its not a problem with signal strength, and obviously no problem with the router as my parent's stay connected during this. I called my ISP, they told me to call gateway. I did , and after that, i will never in my life associate with anything gateway ever, ever , again. I'm sure its a setting or software issue
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my boyfriend and I just moved and, after struggling with our old wireless router we haven't used in years (pretty sure it was dead), we bought a whole new one in the hopes that starting from scratch would be simpler. It's a Netgear and we were aiming to hook up three devices through it; my laptop, his computer, and our Xbox 360.
He hooked it up no problem and we were using wifi for our computers and one ethernet cable through the router into the Xbox, peach as pie... Except my Toshiba laptop decided to rebel and allow me to use the internet for about five minutes before claiming there's "no internet." The signal says excellent and the little alert symbol keeps appearing and disappearing, but no pages will load. I tried running troubleshooting, but it couldn't identify the problem. Shutting down my laptop and turning it back on seems to be the only way to get it going again for another five minutes until the cycle continues.
I am using a HP laptop and its wireless connection is coming from my schools Wireless service which requires a ID and password each time you connect. I would like to funnel this wireless connection to my xbox 360 via a ethernet cord.Ive researched this a bit and found plenty guides but nothing has worked for me. I saw this in a previous post"Bridging two network connections:1. Make sure the secondary connection has DHCP enabled.. Open the Network Connections folder from the Start Menu, Settings.3. Select the first connection to be used in the bridge and highlight it by left clicking on it.4. Holding the Ctrl key, select the second connection to be used in the bridge by left clicking on it.5. Right click on one of the two highlighted connections and select Bridge Connections."

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my issue has been going on for a while now a while after I replaced the router from a DIR-535(If I recall) to a DIR-635. Now the problem resides in my computer however as it would seem that I randomly tend to loose internet acces and it only applies to my computer in the form of obviously loss of internet and the horrid warning triangel in the corner. I've tried removing and restarting the connection without any succes, I also tried to do a ipconfig /release /flushdns and /renew but it didnt seem to do anything either, basically been throwing attempts at a wall to see what works.
As far as the actual card goes it's a Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.
It pretty much just stopped working one day. I have reset my router completely. I have tried the netsh commands. I have tried using different dns ip addresses. I have released and renewed ipconfig. I have reset both my cable modem and my wireless router. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless drivers and made sure they were up to date. None of these things worked.
Here is the story. My laptop will not connect to the internet even though it says it is connected and shows the SSID when you hover over the wireless on the bottom. I have an iPad, iPhone, and another laptop connected to this exact wireless connection. The laptop that does not connect (the one i am having problems with) recently connected to another home wireless network this past weekend in another house so it is not the card in the laptop. It seems to be settings in this particular laptop with just this wireless connection as the wired connection using the same router works just fine. It DOES NOT time out when I ping websites in the command prompt. I get returned values. I have tried several browsers and none of them work. It will not connect to AIM either. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what the hell has changed and why this connection won't work. I really need this connection for work.

However when I go to the wireless connection properties it is sending but not receiving and it won't connect to the internet. I went to the CMD and typed in IPCONFIG and get the message saying my "Media Not Connected."
I have pushed the green button on the router so my laptop can pick up the settings but it still won't connect. Also, I took my laptop to my friends house and was able to connect on their wireless.
I am on Windows Vista.
My daughter tells me that the "internet is soooo slooowww" on her laptop with our wireless network. So I go to a couple of speed test sites on her computer and sure enough the speed is abysmal. So I pull out my laptop and the speed is great. So we know its her computer that has the problem.

This is a Sony Vaio E series laptop running Windows 7 that I've had for close to a year now. The problem began about two days ago with the wireless connection getting dropped randomly (no signals found). The first few times it happened I ran Troubleshoot and it fixed itself, and picked the connection back up. Yesterday when it happened again the troubleshoot failed. I check my router connections, reset it a few times, checked my other computer's connections (all fine) then finally tried restarting the laptop. When it came back up it connected to the internet again. This has since happened three times, and each time I have to completely restart the laptop to get the wireless signal back.

View 10 Replies View RelatedIt's been working absolutely fine for me for nearly two years and all of a sudden it doesn't want to connect anymore. When I turn it on it will connect to the wireless network and stay connected for five minutes tops before disconnecting. Sometimes the wireless network is still being detected, sometimes not, but when I click on it to reconnect it rarely does (and when it does, it will sure enough disconnect again in no time). All other devices in the house stay connected and work fine; it is only my laptop that has issues. I took my laptop to another house and it has the exact same issues so it's definitely the laptop itself and not the routers.I live in Pakistan and my broadband provider for this household is Wi-Tribe. I don't know the type of broadband it is. I have no Anti-Virus apart from Microsoft Security Essentials.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I check the strength sometimes it indicates it's good if I'm practically sitting on top of the router, this seems to eventually degrade to low until finally the connection drops.Repairing' with XP repair facility doesn't work. I can forget about getting a connection if I move further away from the router. At the moment I'm relying on using an ethernet cable snaking across the dining room, which isn't really practical with a toddler and a dog racing around. Recently a friend put a bigger HD in and before this it was working fine, so I suspect that it may be due to this. I think it's due to the wirless card in the laptop, as I have a number of other devices in the house which all work fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe wireless connection works perfectly fine nearly all the time - connection strength always says excellent. A couple of times a day, I'm in the middle of doing something online and find I've suddenly lost wireless connection. A couple of seconds later this is reflected in the network connection icon in the taskbar. A couple of seconds after that, I'm connected again. Several seconds later, it's off, then on, then off, then on.. until a few minutes has elapsed, when suddenly everything is back to normal and I have a solid connection again.I'm literally disconnected for a couple of seconds at a time, over a period of a few minutes, but enough for anything I'm working on (loading a page, downloading or uploading something) to cut out. And for a large majority of the day, it is perfectly stable.
The router is not losing connection to the internet (have checked the logs, and when it happens I normally plug in with a cable and have no problems). I've yet to be able to test whether the same thing happens to another computer connected to the same router at the same time. Our microwave used to interfere with wireless but it isn't being used here, unless it is a neighbour's - though that would cause things to slow down / hang for a little while, rather than flick on and off in such a predictable pattern.(Have also scanned for driver updates, but it says I have the latest version - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN, 12.0.0.82).
