5548P Some Servers Stuck At 100mbit While Switch Says 1Gbit
Jul 17, 2012
We installed some new switches this winter, mostly Dell Powerconnect 5548 and 5548P switches. Everything was working OK, but I have not tested the network with iperf or any other tools since it did not have any important devices on it at the time. I also deployed LAG+LACP between switches. But now that we moved our infrastructure around, 2 of those switches have a bunch of servers on them. Everything looked fine at day 1 (1Gbit link speed everywhere, smooth operations) but the following week, All the nightly backups were slow as a turtle, mostly stuck at 100mbit-ish speeds. I started to have some complaints about database performance too.
So I started doing some iperf testing and I got a lot of throughput problems with some servers, mostly capping around the 100mbit mark. Then I looked around and found a thread where one guy said it's related to the broadcom NIC's on my Dell servers that has issues with those specific Dell Switches (ironic). Before going haywire and invest quite some time in this problem to shuffle servers around and updating firmwares, any problems with Dell switches or Broadcom NICs?

I have new contract for 100mbit instead of 30 and I am confussed a bit.
I have a tp-link 150mbps n router. wr740n model.
On pc I have wireless g adapter usb dongle. 5bars signal.
I can't get more than 22mbits on that pc via dongle. I know it is g and not n, but 54mbps should be achievable right ? If I connect my old notebook to a wall cable just by itself (ip of this notebook is registered with my isp) then i get about 94mbits, so the new internet IS working.
That new tplink 150mbps router is new and set correctly to my knowledge.

I am using 802.1x authentication with multi-domain ports; Phone and PC connected to phone. The phones are Nortel (Avaya) and the PCs are Dell/HP Laptops. All are configured for Certificate authentication and this works well. However we sometimes get some ports stuck in Guest mode. when a non certificated laptop connects to a phone port and fails authentication, the data port is placed in the Guest VLAN. However when the laptop disconnects the port isn't reset and remains in the guest state. When a subsequent good laptop connects and attempts to authenticate the switch ignores this and leaves the data port in the Guest VLAN. he switch is a 2960S with Version 12.2(58)SE2 IOS.
The port is configured as follows:
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/15
description DANS Port
switchport access vlan 1807
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 1855
priority-queue out
[code]....
I placed the AAA, dot1x, eap and auth debug on for all events and then connected a good laptop, the only debug message I got were as follows:
Mar 19 16:17:01.391 GMT: AUTH-EVENT (Gi1/0/15) dot1x_switch_is_restrictive_vlan_open_auth:Multi-Host with Guest Vlan/Auth Fail Vlan or open aut
Mar 19 16:17:01.653 GMT: AUTH-EVENT (Gi1/0/15) dot1x_switch_is_restrictive_vlan_open_auth:Multi-Host with Guest Vlan/Auth Fail Vlan or open aut
Mar 19 16:17:02.654 GMT: AUTH-EVENT (Gi1/0/15) dot1x_switch_is_restrictive_vlan_open_auth:Multi-Host with Guest Vlan/Auth Fail Vlan or open aut
[code]....
I would have expected the auth function to have reacted to the EAP packets sent by the good client when it connected and performed eap authentication but it didn't, all it did was say the ports in Guest mode and left the laptop in this VLAN.

After powering up a WS-C3750-48PS switch, Normal POST LED flashing of lights does not happen, instead the switch is stuck in SYST Mode on the front panel. My attempt to hold down the mode button upon powering up for 15 sec fails to reboot the switch. I cannot console to the switch. Is this switch unrecoverable? Should I RMA with TAC?

there are more than 15 servers which include xen, esx, vmware, also san etc..which are connected to L3 core switch directly. And vlans are created for each.....xen,iscsi,vmware,xen,server. wanted to know is there any other technology other than directly connecting servers to core switch and assigning vlans that can be used in place?

I have a pair of 5548P switches with the L3 daughter cards installed. Using the base license as I just need RIP routing. I have the two switches setup and have the RIP routing feature enabled. When I "turn on" routing using RIP I do not get any routes from my existing L3 switch (3750). I probably don't have routing setup correctly. With the 3750 IOS, I just turned on RIP with the router rip command and added a couple of network statements. On the nexus I have run router rip {instance} and left it at that. I am not getting any routes from my 3750. The 5548s are using the management ports and are connected to my existing network with L2 trunks. Does any know of a setup guide for RIP? I have used the Nexus 7000 RIP guide but still can't get it to work.

I have a setup where two servers are on the same network are plugged into a L3 switch. Off that switch there is a WAN Optimizer device which is inline going to the MPLS cloud. Also off that switch is an ASA firewall which leads to the Internet for the location. When the two servers communicate with each other i would think the traffic would only go through the L3 switch between the two servers. I am seeing traffic between these two servers hitting the WAN optimizer for some reason. I would think being that these two servers are on the same network the traffic between them would stay at Layer 2. routing is enabled on the switch because of other vlans on the network. What would cause the traffic between the two servers to leave the switch and go up to the optimizer? Below is a diagram that shows the basic setup.

Do you have the ability to setup DHCP servers on this layer 3 switch? I know I can with my old 3550 switch. Want to upgrade and make sure this model supports setting up dhcp servers on it.

We are planning to split the Private servers from the DMZ Servers and configure an additional Interface and segment for this purpose.
Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.

The Setup On my home network, I am running Windows Server 2003 as domain controller and file server with a SCSi attached disk array.I have several client PC's. 2 running Windows XP service pack 3, 1 laptop running Windows 7 Service pack 1 and a desktop also running Windows 7 Service Pack 1.These are connected by 2 switches - 1 x Netgear gigabit switch, and a Linksys PSUS4 USB Print server at 100mbps.The PC I use the most is the desktop running Win7 and transfer files to the server. After transferring some large files from the clients to the server, I noticed that the speed was considerably slower than what I was expecting it to be. After investigating, and eliminating elements of the network, I discovered that the Server NIC was running at 10mbps. I tried the usual things like forcing the NIC to run at 100mbps Full Duplex but this had no effect. Strangely, if I reboot the server while the desktop is still switched on the connection goes back to 100mbps. However if I reboot the desktop, or even alter the network settings, it immediatley reverts back to 10mbps.

Can't connect to my own Wireless Network? My Gateway Laptop network key is stuck with an old password? It seems to accept new password but never does connect, and when I retry, there's the old password back again, which I don't remember and was for the other modem. Have tried deleting the Realtec Wireless Adapter and reinstalling but the old password still returns? Tried renaming Wireless Network but old password still returns? Tried accessing Registry with no luck. Only way the Laptop can access is to leave Wireless Network Open/Unsecured, but that's not an option.

Creating an image is almost always a success. However, when restoring, sometimes the process gets stuck somewhere (the client reboots prematurely if that happens) and more than often the clients can't boot into Windows anymore. All clients have the exact same hardware. Now I know the image can't be the problem, as I've restored this exact image to a client two days ago and it booted perfectly fine. Everything worked.I tried to image two clients at the same time. The first thing I noticed was that the method used was NFS and not UDPCAST, which it should be. Now I know it wasn't using multicast because the imaging went asynchronous.

I was connected on wifi and all of a sudden I got disconnected and hasn't been able to connect since. This happened Sunday night and it's now Thursday. I got stuck on acquiring network address. I've been using the same wifi connection for about 7 months now and this never happened before.
All the other laptops at home (Mac and XP) could connect except me. I tried to google over my phone but still wasn't able to fix it.

I just dumped my dsl for cable and when I ran ethernet straight into the modem from my laptop I was pulling 30mbit to speedtests, but when I go wired or wireless through my router, it's capping at around 16mbit. Any decent priced wireless routers that will get me closer to 30mbit? My laptop has 802.11n and I saw someone locally selling a WRT160n but I don't know if that would do it either. Is the cpu speed of the router the limiting factor? The 54gs is 216mhz cpu, depending on the revision the 160n can be 300mhz.
