After powering up a WS-C3750-48PS switch, Normal POST LED flashing of lights does not happen, instead the switch is stuck in SYST Mode on the front panel. My attempt to hold down the mode button upon powering up for 15 sec fails to reboot the switch. I cannot console to the switch. Is this switch unrecoverable? Should I RMA with TAC?

I have 2 - WS-C2960-24TT-L switches. Both are experiencing the same issue. Upon booting them up, all lights flash on the mode indicator panel, then it goes directly to a solid green "SYST" light. Nothing registers across the console cable. I have tried different baud rates, cables and computers. None of the ports come up regardless of how long either switch is powered on. Holding the Mode button during boot up produces the same result, nothing. Sounds like they are dead, however, I thought this would be the place to go for ideas. Can I revive these switches?

Everything was working fine a week ago but now, nothing.The problem is only occurring with one computer and I've tried the troubleshooting guide on the website to no avail.When I connect the ethernet cable from my computer to the modem/router, I don't get a light on the front panel on any of the ports. I've changed cables, ports, disabled ZoneAlarm and firewalls and nothing comes up. I've checked the ethernet connection from the computer to another computer and it's working fine.
On a different computer, I have no trouble connecting to the ports and can confirm that 1-4 are working and the lights come up.
I have a new building to add to our campus and I have been encouraged to run single mode fiber. All of my other buildings are connected with multi-mode fiber. I just want to make sure i will not have an issue if I run single mode to the new building with SM SFP's.

I have gone through some of CSC forums like {URL}. The workaround is to "Remove the X2 or SFP from the inactive up link port" which is not in my case.
I have 6509 E. Actually what happen it last 3-4 times it reload its self and got stuck in rommon mode, i tried to boot it with boot by connecting a console cable on supervisor 720 2b. What and where is problem and why is stuck in rommon after reload.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a strange issue yesterday when onsite installing a new access switch.Port capacity full on a two switch stack of 3750 x48 PS switches (WS-C3750- 48PS-E)- New 2960 x48 PS - WS-C2960S-48FPS-L racked, with the plan of using it just as an edge switch via SFP Stacking cable.Setup the two connecting ports with simple initial config: - switchport mode trunk- no encapsulation option on the 2960, default dot1q- dot1q set on 3750 port- no shut on both sides.Connected the SFP Stacking cable but it didnt work:- %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/1 is not supported
This is ok as I had a backup:- Next step tried using 2 x Short Haul SFP SX GBIC's with LC - LC OFNP 50/125 fibre patch lead - no joy- Extra backup of 2 x Long Haul SFP LX GBIC's with the same fibre patch - no joy- Checked the fibre and it was not a cross over so transmit and receive going down the same side, switchedand still would not come up.- Used Fibre as a straight through and still the same.In all cases there was no indication of any life in the connection.It is pointing to a faulty fibre patch lead but I know it has worked in the past. Could it be something to do with the config or device incompatibility? Or any setting I need to activate?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way I can downgrade the firmware on a C3750 v2 switch 24TS-S v07 to 12.2(35) SE5. I have added this new switch to an existing stack but the FW is not compatable. I believe the answer is to upgrade the rest but I cannot afford any down time as they are used to run a CCTV securiy network 24/7. I have included details below to assist with my problem. I have 3 ws-c3750-48ps in a stack and i'd like to enable dot1x on the stack I entered the commands: [code] I also have dot1x enabled on several interface on the 2nd and 3rd switches in the stack with these commands [code] dot1x successfully works on these ports and I see the logs in acs, heres where the problem comes in when i try to enable dot1x using the above commands on any interface on the first switch in the stack it doesn't work its like the switch doesn't support dot1x. I'm assuming that there is a bug in version 3 but after googling I didn't come up with much.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using 802.1x authentication with multi-domain ports; Phone and PC connected to phone. The phones are Nortel (Avaya) and the PCs are Dell/HP Laptops. All are configured for Certificate authentication and this works well. However we sometimes get some ports stuck in Guest mode. when a non certificated laptop connects to a phone port and fails authentication, the data port is placed in the Guest VLAN. However when the laptop disconnects the port isn't reset and remains in the guest state. When a subsequent good laptop connects and attempts to authenticate the switch ignores this and leaves the data port in the Guest VLAN. he switch is a 2960S with Version 12.2(58)SE2 IOS.

I would have expected the auth function to have reacted to the EAP packets sent by the good client when it connected and performed eap authentication but it didn't, all it did was say the ports in Guest mode and left the laptop in this VLAN.

1) Let say our specific 6500 switch's configuration requires 1000 watts. We have two power supplies p1 and p2 ,each with rated power of 500 watts. Both power supplies must operate in combined mode. Will power supplies be able to meet the total load power requirement of 1000 watts?
Here is my understanding :The maximum power delivered by each power supplies is 83 percent of its rated power, assuming power supplies are running in combined mode.
So Maximum power delivered by power supplies
= 83% of p1+ 83% of p2
= 83% of 500 + 83% of 500
= 415 +415
=830 watts
Thus the required load of 1000 watts can not be met by our power supplies in combined mode.
2 )Suppose our switch's switch configuration needs 500 watts. Again our power supplies each rated with 500 watts, are configured for combined mode. How much power is being delivered by each power supply? Is it 83 percent of the total load i.e 500 watts?

The problem is the switches interface never comes up so try to connect to the tftp server. I read on google it can't be done on a switch to copy from tftp to flash in rommon mode on a switch and to use XMODEM. My problem is I do not have access to it, I ssh into a 3640 which is an access server for all devices and that is how I have console to it, how to use XMODEM over ssh.
But I'm fairly certain that there has to be a way to just copy it from tftp? I have a 3550 local and when I put it in rommon mode it stops the port check at port, port 1 goes from green when you plug it in to off then port 2 changes to amber and the rest green. So just by the look of this I would believe tftp would work; you just need to use port 1.
I am in the process of upgrading our stack of 4 switches consist of WS-C3750G-48PS. Upon reading release notes found that there are two versions of release notes 1 day apart, the one 02 Sep 2012 saying that WS-C3750-48PS is not supported in this version. Then in release next day 03 Sep 2012 that note has been removed. Which one is correct. Is it supported with my model of switch or not. Also unable to update boot path in the stack switches, "switch all" is not supported in the current IOS. Any other way to update it. Master switch has new boot path but unable to change in slaves.
