View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a PC with a Realtek onboard Ethernet controller, running Windows XP. It's connected to an Asus RT-n16 router loaded with TomatoUSB, via a Cat5e cable. When I set it up a month or two ago, I confirmed that I was getting a Gigabit connection to it--the little network connection icon in the Windows XP taskbar indicated "1.0 Gbps." All well and good. I just happened to check it today, and it now says "100Mbps." Nothing, as far as I know, has changed to the configuration. I went into the Device Manager, and saw that under the driver settings, in "Speed", it was set to "Auto-Negotiate." When I tried setting that to "1.0 Gbps" instead, the network connection icon in XP's taskbar once again indicated "1.0Gbps." As an experiment, I then changed it back to Auto-Negotiate, and once again the taskbar icon read "100Mbps."So I guess I have two questions. 1) Should I leave the driver setting on 1Gbps rather than Auto-Negotiate? (2) Why might the speed have switched from 1Gbps to 100Mbps over the past month if nothing's changed?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe installed some new switches this winter, mostly Dell Powerconnect 5548 and 5548P switches. Everything was working OK, but I have not tested the network with iperf or any other tools since it did not have any important devices on it at the time. I also deployed LAG+LACP between switches. But now that we moved our infrastructure around, 2 of those switches have a bunch of servers on them. Everything looked fine at day 1 (1Gbit link speed everywhere, smooth operations) but the following week, All the nightly backups were slow as a turtle, mostly stuck at 100mbit-ish speeds. I started to have some complaints about database performance too.
So I started doing some iperf testing and I got a lot of throughput problems with some servers, mostly capping around the 100mbit mark. Then I looked around and found a thread where one guy said it's related to the broadcom NIC's on my Dell servers that has issues with those specific Dell Switches (ironic). Before going haywire and invest quite some time in this problem to shuffle servers around and updating firmwares, any problems with Dell switches or Broadcom NICs?
I'm looking for a good managed (i.e. a unit with stats and troubleshooting capabilities) fiber-to-copper media converter. I know there's plenty of "dumb" media converter choices out there, but was hoping to get one that has a console conn or the like to troubleshoot any possible issues. I'm converting between 50nm multi-mode fiber with an SC connector to 1000-bT copper.

My LAN speed was 100 Mbps but now it is 10 Mbps and too slow when I am using internet. So how can i increase the speed to 100 Mbps from 10Mbps?
View 2 Replies View RelatedVirgin Media just upgraded my broadband to 100mbps. My main PC is in a place where unfortunately I cannot hard wire it to ethernet, and also the wifi signal is a bit rubbish - therefore I have been using D-Link Powerline AV Homeplugs DHP-307 200Mbps (N.B. I am fully aware that 200mbps doesn't really mean that through homeplugs, please read on)
Ages ago when my I first set this up my connection speed from Virgin Media was 50mbps and, after installing, I tested it a few times and got about 45mbps, which I was happy with.
However, due to the upgrade I thought I would test it again, and now I'm only gettin about 20-25Mbps. I did some diagnistic checks as follows:
A laptop plugged directly into my router via ethernet got 97 Mbps My laptop sitting next to my PC connected via wifi got 54 Mbps My PC connected via wifi with the ethernet/homeplug disconnected got 26 Mbps (I think my wireless card in the PC and the aeriel are both a bit rubbish though anyway)My PC connected via ethernet homeplug with no wifi got 23 Mbps
What I don't understand is:
1 - In the configuration utility for the homeplugs it says that the link speed for this plug is 96 Mbps, so how come that's not coming through?
2 - Why would it have one time been higher and now not? If it wasn't for point 1 above I might put it down to interference in the elecrical circuits, but I thought that's what the link speed would be showing me
I guess the best option would be to try and get VM to install a proper ethernet port in my study, however I can't imagine how they would do this without running cables through the house, which I don't want, so I'm trying to exhaust other options. I'm happy to ditch the homeplugs if there is something better.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems that Cisco mentioned, in their data sheet of 2921 ISR, that it can support up to 50Mbps. However, from Google search, it says 2921 can handle 100Mbps with no problem.I am planning on getting 2921 ISR in small office where only ~10 people are connected to it. And we do have two different line of 100Mbps ISP internet line and wish to share them in the office.I am confused why ~$2k router can not support 100Mbps where ~$100 consumer routhers like Linksys has no problem with handling that speed. The reason why I am planning on 2921 is the rich feature like Voip solution (CME) it offeres. I have several remote offices that needs to be connected with Voip phones. and I could go with UC500 series but it seems to me UC500 does not support IP Phone 9900 series.

To do that I would like to be able to sniff the traffic traversing our 7k. However, as the 7k doesn't support remote span we have to span locally. This means that I have to connect a pc to the Nexus and sent the span output to that port. However, our 7K is only equipped with N7K-M108X2-12L modules, which contains X2 10G ports. I found the CVR-X2-SFP10G X2 to SFP+ convertor module, but I wonder whether this supports a 1G copper SFP. If it doesn't it would be wasteful to buy one. On the page concerning the module I only found 10G fiber sfp's which are supported.

I have made a routed port on 3560G Switch and defined a pool 172.28.4.62 255.255.255.192 and connected to E1 converter RAD (4E1 to 4 FE) the E1 media is through Microwave on the other end same E1 converter is connected through layer 2 switch and defined a pool as of routed port configured in 3560G switch.
The port is generating lot of giants and after a while it also distrubs other routes ( Port1 to Port 16), configured with Vlan11 and port 22 as routed port.I have checked the routed port through wireshark the maximum frame size is 1514 and configured the MTU to 1514, giants are not showing any more but after 10 to 12 hours switch gets hang. Either to shut the port or to reload the switch to get switch and other layer routes to be normal.
I have checked speed and duplex settings same as E1 converter. Full duplex. 100 Speed. Why switch is not behaving normal. If I shutdown the routed port it is normal.
