Cisco WAN :: 2921 ISR For Routing 100Mbps ISP Internet
Feb 16, 2012It seems that Cisco mentioned, in their data sheet of 2921 ISR, that it can support up to 50Mbps. However, from Google search, it says 2921 can handle 100Mbps with no problem.I am planning on getting 2921 ISR in small office where only ~10 people are connected to it. And we do have two different line of 100Mbps ISP internet line and wish to share them in the office.I am confused why ~$2k router can not support 100Mbps where ~$100 consumer routhers like Linksys has no problem with handling that speed. The reason why I am planning on 2921 is the rich feature like Voip solution (CME) it offeres. I have several remote offices that needs to be connected with Voip phones. and I could go with UC500 series but it seems to me UC500 does not support IP Phone 9900 series.

Jun 28, 2012We are running Sharepoint 2007(sp3 and wss sp3) on a dell pe2950 running Server 2003 std x64 sp2, 4 146gb 15k sas raid 10, 16gb ram, dual xeon 516 3ghz. the network card is a quad port intel 1gb pci-x server nic. Was running broadcom net xtreme dual port onboard, and had the same issue.
We are losing partial network connection, after about 14-15 hours of the machine working correctly. What happens is that it cannot ping, or access, any machines not on the same network segment(this machine is on 192.168.3.* and cannot access machines, or be accessed from 192.168.2.*, 192.168.4.*, etc, etc). what i have found is that when i try to ping 192.168.2.210(our dns, dhcp server). its times out about 20 times and replies 2-3 times, and then repeats the cycle all over again. i have done a winsock reset on the machine, and sometimes it starts back up and works again, sometimes it doesn't.

We know have some new switches C2960-48PST-L that are not supported in CiscoView and Common Services.When trying an update in Software Center | Device Update, we receive an error message:Error while downloading package information from Cisco.com for the selected products. Operate A Website From A Shared Internet Connection?
Mar 26, 2012I am designing a network internet connection to our 20 apartment block. The WAN is Ultima up to 40mb/s and the take up is expected to be modest in terms of throughput. However I have been told that two apartments want to run their own non commercial web sites which currently operate on adsl with ddns provision from TZO. The netgear vdsl router supplied by the ISP will obviously have port forwarding but how do I cater for more than one LAN destination requiring port 80 traffic??Surely I dont have to have an in-block DNS.

When i download games off of steam it downloads its much faster then downing anything from my browser. I know its my network because when i went on steam and changed my download settings to cable and it was fixed.

Feb 8, 2013I have a PC with a Realtek onboard Ethernet controller, running Windows XP. It's connected to an Asus RT-n16 router loaded with TomatoUSB, via a Cat5e cable. When I set it up a month or two ago, I confirmed that I was getting a Gigabit connection to it--the little network connection icon in the Windows XP taskbar indicated "1.0 Gbps." All well and good. I just happened to check it today, and it now says "100Mbps." Nothing, as far as I know, has changed to the configuration. I went into the Device Manager, and saw that under the driver settings, in "Speed", it was set to "Auto-Negotiate." When I tried setting that to "1.0 Gbps" instead, the network connection icon in XP's taskbar once again indicated "1.0Gbps." As an experiment, I then changed it back to Auto-Negotiate, and once again the taskbar icon read "100Mbps."So I guess I have two questions. 1) Should I leave the driver setting on 1Gbps rather than Auto-Negotiate? (2) Why might the speed have switched from 1Gbps to 100Mbps over the past month if nothing's changed?

Apr 28, 2009This is only a small portion of our network but my question is, can these 1841 routers handle a 45Meg connection? I thought these routers were designed for T1/E1 type speeds. I know I saw a router performance document somewhere that showed 1841's could handle 38.4MB of traffic and that is only with routing turned on. If anything else is enabled, like access lists, NetFlow or whatever, that number will decrease because of the capacity of the router. Am I correct in these statements? Any document or anything else that shows performance of these routers?

Jan 22, 2012We are in the process of upgrading the bandwidth at a few offices. Each currently have a 2xT-1 connection but have high utilization on the circuit which is why they are being upgraded. We are trying to decide b/t either a partial DS3 or metro ethernet connection. Are there pros/cons b/t the two in order to decide which to go with? Cost is not an issue. Some say going with a partial DS3 circuit offers benefits over metro ethernet such as network-based failover, end-to-end availability is better with DS-3 and QoS.

Jun 29, 2011a customer of us asked if C2911 (to be bought) is ok for partial BGP routes.This is the situation: 2 cisco 2911, each peering with 3 other AS (AS1, AS2, AS3), and maybe, in the future, at a small IXP (AS4, AS5, AS6, AS7).They will accept defaults plus partial routes from upstream AS1, AS2, AS3.When deployed at the IXP they also will accept partial routes from AS4-7.So, is 2911 ok for that configuration?the default route is included in the first row of as-path, isn't it?I have no experience with partial routes, only with full (for our datacenter) and default only (for other customers).

Cisco WAN :: 1941 - Dual WAN Failover And Partial Failure
May 10, 2011We had an interesting situation after an electrical storm moved through where a few of our dual WAN clients didn't have any Internet connectivity. Generally speaking, they are on a wireless broadband and something like DSL/cable/T1. One customer in particular has a cisco 1941 router setup for dual WAN which tested fine during install (pull either connection, external IP changes dynamically and no difference is noticed by user). Well, this storm knocked the wireless broadband out enough that it wasn't usable, but would respond to pings randomly. Because the wireless is the fastest of the two connections it has a higher priority but because it was down but still responded to some pings, the traffic didn't go through the DSL that didn't go down. how to make the dual WAN more reliable in these partial-down situations? I thought about playing with the network service detection (we have a customer on an RV042 who experienced the same problem) but am not real sure what I could change that would make the connection more reliable, especially on the 1941 router.

Apr 4, 2012I have an HP OfficeJet J4500 that works fine with shareport on my Win7 x64 computer. the XP and Win2000 ones both have the same "partial page then lockup" problem. when this happens, the only way to disconnect shareport is to reboot the router. It shows connected to the same computer even if I reboot that computer. I started with V1?? from the install disk then tried 3 and finally 4 with no improvement. Aug 8, 2010I have an ESW-500, a SPA525G (also tried 504G), Polycom IP330/670 phones, and a Switchvox (Asterisk-based IP-PBX) and CDP causes some issues.Both the SPA5xx and Polycom phones support CDP but it appears to operate differently between the phones. And, surprisingly, worst of all on the SPA's.
In short:
* Switch - CDP enabled (VLAN 100), DHCP disabled (Option 82 enabled) which is basically how it comes out of the box
* Polycom phones - CDP enabled (default)
* Cisco phones - CDP enabled (default)
* DHCP/TFTP server on port 1
* Phones on ports 7,15,19 - default as smartports for Desktop & Phone
* Switchvox on port 17 - port configured as General (not Trunk) with 1U & 100U VLANs. This was required to get Polycom phones to appear in Switchvox config
With that configuration the Polycom phones work perfectly. They appear in the switch web-GUI under CDP, they present in Switchvox and can be configured.But with that configuration although the Cisco phones appear in the CDP screen they do not get DHCP. My DHCP server can see 'DHCP Discover' messages but it just goes around in circles. Disabling CDP on the switch will allow the phone to get an IP but disabling CDP on the phone still has the same problem. When I saw "around in circles" this is what I mean....

With the difference being there's a 'DHCP Inform Msg' which there never is from the Cisco.I have tried many options regarding DHCP Relay, DHCP Server addresses, DHCP VLAN Interfaces, smartport settings etc but with CDP enabled the Cisco phone just will not get DHCP.

Sep 1, 2011I recently said to hell with wireless and wired my apartment with Cat6. My desktop computer next to the router is running fine at 1Gbps. My media center one room over is only running at 100Mbps, and I cannot figure out why.
The motherboard has a Realtek RTL8168D . I have green ethernet enabled... could that be it? Auto disable gigabit is disabled. I tried changing speed & duplex from Auto to 1Gbps, and that didn't change anything. The latest driver is installed. Their ethernet diagnostic utility shows the link speed at 100.

Nov 6, 2012I have my broadband line feeding into a WAG 320N in an outside room. There are computers in the outside room which are wired to the modem via CAT leads & plugs. Wireless is turned on, but is not currently being used in this room, as the wired connections work fine. From this outside room there is an underground cable (12 metres) to the house, which through a CAT lead is plugged into another WAG 320N, which operates primarily wirelessly, so laptop computers can be used in the house wirelessly. When the outside room modem is turned on AND the house modem is turned on, only one modem OR the other can access the internet, NOT BOTH. Why can't both modems operate wired and wirelessly. What is the problem? Is there a conflict between the two wireless signals? Can/ should I turn off the wireless signal from the outside modem (if so HOW?) . OR is there a way I can have both modems transmitting a wireless signal.
