Connected to the D-Link I have a Windows 7 Pro machine (64-bit, SP1) and an XP (home i think) machine (sp 2 i think). The SmartAX modem is set up to perform DHCP and DNS relaying and the D-Link has DHCP turned off and DNS relay turned off.The Win7 machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet without problems, regardless as to the status of the XP machine. The XP machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet with no problems ONLY of the win7 is powered up. When the win7 machine is off, the XP machine seems to drop about 25% of the ping packets between it and the D-Link router and has no internet access (because of this i assume). [code]
View 8 Replies View RelatedNew Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine. Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print.Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed. No error messages show up.I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it.Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install. On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.I need sorting this all out.Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a network problem. My windows 7 machine is not detecting win xp machine whereas win xp machine is detecting win 7 machine. They are in the same workgroup named Home. And the networking system is set to work. I have left the homegroup I was previously in. I enabled file sharing for devices that use 40 bit and 50 bit encryption. On XP I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP. File sharing is enabled on both computers. I think it's something obvious as both instalations on different computers are really fresh and both windows haven't been tampered with.

I am designing a network internet connection to our 20 apartment block. The WAN is Ultima up to 40mb/s and the take up is expected to be modest in terms of throughput. However I have been told that two apartments want to run their own non commercial web sites which currently operate on adsl with ddns provision from TZO. The netgear vdsl router supplied by the ISP will obviously have port forwarding but how do I cater for more than one LAN destination requiring port 80 traffic??Surely I dont have to have an in-block DNS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently said to hell with wireless and wired my apartment with Cat6. My desktop computer next to the router is running fine at 1Gbps. My media center one room over is only running at 100Mbps, and I cannot figure out why.
The motherboard has a Realtek RTL8168D . I have green ethernet enabled... could that be it? Auto disable gigabit is disabled. I tried changing speed & duplex from Auto to 1Gbps, and that didn't change anything. The latest driver is installed. Their ethernet diagnostic utility shows the link speed at 100.

I am a Malaysian, using Streamyx here, I search some articles shows that the ISP given is 60.49.166.105 or 60.49.166.106. Am I right in the setup? Why I am still unable to online though successful to connect after the setup configuration?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ESW-500, a SPA525G (also tried 504G), Polycom IP330/670 phones, and a Switchvox (Asterisk-based IP-PBX) and CDP causes some issues. Both the SPA5xx and Polycom phones support CDP but it appears to operate differently between the phones. And, surprisingly, worst of all on the SPA's.
In short:
* Switch - CDP enabled (VLAN 100), DHCP disabled (Option 82 enabled) which is basically how it comes out of the box
* Polycom phones - CDP enabled (default)
* Cisco phones - CDP enabled (default)
* DHCP/TFTP server on port 1
* Phones on ports 7,15,19 - default as smartports for Desktop & Phone
* Switchvox on port 17 - port configured as General (not Trunk) with 1U & 100U VLANs. This was required to get Polycom phones to appear in Switchvox config
With that configuration the Polycom phones work perfectly. They appear in the switch web-GUI under CDP, they present in Switchvox and can be configured. But with that configuration although the Cisco phones appear in the CDP screen they do not get DHCP. My DHCP server can see 'DHCP Discover' messages but it just goes around in circles. Disabling CDP on the switch will allow the phone to get an IP but disabling CDP on the phone still has the same problem. When I saw "around in circles" this is what I mean....
Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:27.031]
DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:29.000]
4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:29.062]
Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:30.093]
DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:31.593]
4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:31.656]
[code]....
With the difference being there's a 'DHCP Inform Msg' which there never is from the Cisco.I have tried many options regarding DHCP Relay, DHCP Server addresses, DHCP VLAN Interfaces, smartport settings etc but with CDP enabled the Cisco phone just will not get DHCP.
I have my broadband line feeding into a WAG 320N in an outside room. There are computers in the outside room which are wired to the modem via CAT leads & plugs. Wireless is turned on, but is not currently being used in this room, as the wired connections work fine. From this outside room there is an underground cable (12 metres) to the house, which through a CAT lead is plugged into another WAG 320N, which operates primarily wirelessly, so laptop computers can be used in the house wirelessly. When the outside room modem is turned on AND the house modem is turned on, only one modem OR the other can access the internet, NOT BOTH. Why can't both modems operate wired and wirelessly. What is the problem? Is there a conflict between the two wireless signals? Can/ should I turn off the wireless signal from the outside modem (if so HOW?) . OR is there a way I can have both modems transmitting a wireless signal.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router Model No. WRT160N. I have had it since 2008; therefore, the warranty is expired and Linksys refused to give me tech support over the phone. Here's the problem:
It is not giving off a wireless signal. It works as a router just fine. I have my landline ethernet cable coming into it, and then a cord going to my desktop and a cord going to my laptop and the internet works fine. However, it give off no wireless signal.
I tried resetting to factory settings and that did not work. I've attached a pic of the router when it's turned on. You can see the middle button is Orange and the wireless icon is not lighted at all.
I have a E4200 router. The firmware version is 1.1.02. I am reluctant to upgrade; however, my iMAC is picking up the 5GHz broadcast setting, but the rest of my wireless devices only recognize my lower 2.4GHz setting. I have changed channels, my router address is changed because it conflicted with my Verizon DSL. I do not have FIOS. What can I do to fix this problem. I have an ipad, 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, 2 laptops (PCs), an XBOX, and a PS3 that needs to connect to a higher broadcast. The connections are slow and at times get dropped.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project at my company. In short, there is one PC in the office to which other user must remotely connect to perform certain tasks. The stuff they do must be done from the machine with the specific IP, the IP of that machine, as this is specified in agreements with the companies we work with. So far, we have been using Remote Desktop (our machines are Windows-XP-based PC's), but this is quite annoying when more than one person needs to use the machine at the same time

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to link a Windows 7 machine with a laptop running Windows XP. The workgroup on both computers is the same. On the Win7 machine, I have a couple of folders set to be shared. The first is the C Drive and the share name is C-drive. The second is Quickbooks that I have named Quickbooks. On the XP machine, I went to map network drive and in the blank typed \Remote1C-drive. It asked for username and password and just like that we were connected. But I can't see all of the files on this drive. I don't even see all of the folders - one of which is Quickbooks. So I tried \Remote1Quickbooks and Windows XP couldn't find that path even though I'm positive that folder is shared on Win7. So no matter what I try, I can't see this folder on the XP machine, I even tried copying this folder to other locations around the computer and setting up shares in hope that something would work, but it never did. So I went back to the C Drive share on the XP machine. I tried to go in reverse, creating a file and putting it on the root of the c drive (I did this on the XP machine, but the file should have actually been located on the Win7 machine. When I check Win7, the file didn't exist. So I tried the other way. I right clicked on the c drive in Win7 and created a new bitmap image file. Back to the XP laptop, that file doesn't show. But if I look at the c-drive on Win7 from the xp machine, I see several other folders and some of them like Program Files contains actual files. But some of them are just empty such as \Remote1C.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBasically, I am swapping my Atom/ION nettop (that I use as a file server, game server, torrent server etc. etc.) for one that has no fans and no mechanical HDD. I control it primarily via RDP, so I don't need to plug a keyboard or display into the nettop itself.
The new one I'm getting should be a step up due to the whole no moving parts thing, as well as the much faster CPU. But Intel, in their infinite wisdom, have not provided (and don't plan on providing) a 64bit graphics driver for the GMA 3650.
If I were to install 64bit Windows on this new machine without installing a driver for the graphics, would I have any issues using RDP? I'm not sure if the visuals are generated on the host or the client and whether it would matter either way.
