D-Link DIR-655 :: Shareport On Various Platforms Locks Up After Partial Page Printed
Apr 4, 2012
I have an HP OfficeJet J4500 that works fine with shareport on my Win7 x64 computer. the XP and Win2000 ones both have the same "partial page then lockup" problem. when this happens, the only way to disconnect shareport is to reboot the router. It shows connected to the same computer even if I reboot that computer. I started with V1?? from the install disk then tried 3 and finally 4 with no improvement. I have read several posts about this or similar problems. This is the primary reason I switched routers and bought the D-Link DIR-655, for the print server feature...
I have disabled all antivirus and firewall services on my PC and I can't get Shareport icon to turn green and recognize my DIR-655 (Hardware Version A4, 1.21 firmware). I've uninstalled the Shareport software twice. I use AVAST (but all services are disabled). The router setting is set to "USB Network" with a 30 second time out. I'm running WinXP SP3, 802.11G only.
something has changed, and now SharePort is back to its old ... Text prints OK, but photos only print parts then eject the page and print some more psycho garble on the next page....etc...I have done all the uninstall - reinstall drills.... same result.... Just don't understand why it WAS working for a while, and what changed to make it un-work now.... The software looks to be working, but the actual output is foobar....
I have installed a d-link router dir-825. I have already connect a printer with shareport and it's working very well. We have also a laptop wireless connected; The problem is that after installing shareport on the laptop I get the message in shareport: no device connected;
Is there a client mode option for the DIR-655?I just got a nice cable modem/router from my ISP and I'd like to re-purpose my DIR-655.If I could turn a usb webcam, printer, or harddrive into wireless client, that would be cool. I would just rather re-purpose the device versus selling it.
Recently I bought a Windows 8 (64bits) computer, which is now part of my home network, but it has problems with Shareport. The other computers can be easily connected to a USB printer on my DIR-825 (HW B1) router, but the W8 computer refuses to completely install Shareport (both the CD version and the latest download v1.17). I also tried Shareport-Plus v4.11 (found on the DIR 835 page), which did install correctly, but was still unable to see the USB printer. What can be done? Can D-Link provide a new version of Shareport?
I have hardware version B1, firmware version 2.00NA and several computers (wired & wireless) with Vista & Win 7 x64 and a Brother HL1440 printer. When I print something it comes out scrambled, images missing or cut off, empty pages, etc. This same setup worked fine when it was directly into one computer, then shared on the network though windows sharing. The problem was that computer had to be running to print off the network. I got the dir655 since it had printer sharing but so far its not been of any luck.
I realized that when I connect dir825 on bridging mode to my current voip router provided by my ISP (dvg-n5402) ,shareport does not work as it seems to be using the default gateway to find the usb, which in this case default gateway goes to the gateway of my voip router. Is there any way that I can make shareport use the gateway of my dir825 instead?
Shareport recognizes the printer only after resetting the DIR-825 router. I don't know if this is a Shareport issue or an issue with the DIR-825 disabling the USB port. This happens after there is no PC connected to the router for a number of hours such as overnight. I have 1 laptop and 1 desktop running Win 7 64-bit and 1 laptop running Win 7 32-bit. The desktop is connected directly to the router and the laptops connect via wifi. All PCs work perfectly when the DIR-825 is reset. This isn't a big issue but it's extremely annoying and shouldn't happen. I use a Cisco WAG320 in my office that has similar USB functionality and this never happens.
Firmware 2.07NA for version B1 units contains two bugs:
1 - An underscore in the Device Name causes a cryptic "37" error to appear when attempting to save any changes to the network settings. Version 2.03 allowed the underscore character. Other invalid characters, such as a "-", generate a more meaningful "Device name given is invalid" message.
Removing any underscores eliminates the error and allows settings to be saved.
2 - The upgrade breaks SharePort communications; the SharePort client utility cannot see the USB port on the device after upgrading from 2.03 to 2.07. This occurs with the latest 3.1.0 R 1 Utility (SXUPTP Driver: 3.4.6.0).
I setup sharePort today and attached an external 1 TB hard drive. Seems that All my internet connections are slow now. I have a seperate PC that I use VPN to connect to work with and suddenly its very slow. My wife said her laptop suddenly slowed down too. The PC that I installed SharePort software seems slow too. Is/can SharePort be dragging down the router? I turned off the external HD and it's still slow.
I have a dir-825 connected to Cable modem and a dap-1360 connected I have both wireless and wired clients. If get a ip address conflict and the the dir-825 connection fails from the cable modem and nothing seams to restore that connection, i reboot both route and modem and make sure no client are on. The only way i can figure out how to restore the router is to reset and reinstall from factory state.I can recreate this on 2 different router "825" with factory and updated firmware.I have removed the wireless extender form the picture and this issue has stopped, it might be the extender of a client off the extender. But everything uses DHCP so I'm not sure why ip address conflicts could cause this issue.
This causes massive 3G data to be used. If you don't close the app first it just keeps streaming and eating data + battery. This data screen cap is for 10 minutes after locking the phone with the app open. When the phone locks, the app should kill the video streaming.
We are in the process of upgrading the bandwidth at a few offices. Each currently have a 2xT-1 connection but have high utilization on the circuit which is why they are being upgraded. We are trying to decide b/t either a partial DS3 or metro ethernet connection. Are there pros/cons b/t the two in order to decide which to go with? Cost is not an issue. Some say going with a partial DS3 circuit offers benefits over metro ethernet such as network-based failover, end-to-end availability is better with DS-3 and QoS.
a customer of us asked if C2911 (to be bought) is ok for partial BGP routes. This is the situation: 2 cisco 2911, each peering with 3 other AS (AS1, AS2, AS3), and maybe, in the future, at a small IXP (AS4, AS5, AS6, AS7).They will accept defaults plus partial routes from upstream AS1, AS2, AS3.When deployed at the IXP they also will accept partial routes from AS4-7.So, is 2911 ok for that configuration?the default route is included in the first row of as-path, isn't it?I have no experience with partial routes, only with full (for our datacenter) and default only (for other customers).
I am getting some weir behaviour in my LMS 4.2 setup. I am doing and Archiveupdate job and am receiving a partial success for roughly 1400 devices. Here is some output.
Execution Result: STARTUP CM0057 PRIMARY STARTUP Config fetch SUCCESS, archival failed for xxxxxx Cause: CM0210 Unable to generate processed config Action: Verify that archive exists for device. RUNNING
[code]...
I went on and checked the dcmaservice log file.I found the following entry at the same time of this particulair job
ERROR,[Thread-72920],com.cisco.nm.xms.xdi.pkgs.SharedDcmaIOS.analyzer.IOSConfigletRules,loadRules,42,Could not locate configlet rule file : com/cisco/nm/xms/xdi/pkgs/SharedDcmaIOS/analyzer/IOSConfigletRules.ser [ date taken out ],ERROR,[Thread-72920],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.dcma.configmanager.DeviceArchiveManager,archiveNewVersionIfNeeded,1115,CM0210 Unable to generate processed config
I then searched if I had the IOSConfigletRules.set file on the box. And no it is not there. My question is this the reasson that I have som manny partial sucess archive results?
We are running Sharepoint 2007(sp3 and wss sp3) on a dell pe2950 running Server 2003 std x64 sp2, 4 146gb 15k sas raid 10, 16gb ram, dual xeon 516 3ghz. the network card is a quad port intel 1gb pci-x server nic. Was running broadcom net xtreme dual port onboard, and had the same issue.
We are losing partial network connection, after about 14-15 hours of the machine working correctly. What happens is that it cannot ping, or access, any machines not on the same network segment(this machine is on 192.168.3.* and cannot access machines, or be accessed from 192.168.2.*, 192.168.4.*, etc, etc). what i have found is that when i try to ping 192.168.2.210(our dns, dhcp server). its times out about 20 times and replies 2-3 times, and then repeats the cycle all over again. i have done a winsock reset on the machine, and sometimes it starts back up and works again, sometimes it doesn't.
We had an interesting situation after an electrical storm moved through where a few of our dual WAN clients didn't have any Internet connectivity. Generally speaking, they are on a wireless broadband and something like DSL/cable/T1. One customer in particular has a cisco 1941 router setup for dual WAN which tested fine during install (pull either connection, external IP changes dynamically and no difference is noticed by user). Well, this storm knocked the wireless broadband out enough that it wasn't usable, but would respond to pings randomly. Because the wireless is the fastest of the two connections it has a higher priority but because it was down but still responded to some pings, the traffic didn't go through the DSL that didn't go down. how to make the dual WAN more reliable in these partial-down situations? I thought about playing with the network service detection (we have a customer on an RV042 who experienced the same problem) but am not real sure what I could change that would make the connection more reliable, especially on the 1941 router.
What terminal/console server hardware platforms are you using and what do you prefer? I prefer Cisco terminal servers because of the ease and standard use of it.For a new project layout, I was given a opengear IMX4216. The terminal console is web based and I just dont like it(certain key-strokes not going through, terminal window size, etc). The project already has a separate PDU for remote power management, therefore this is simply being used as a remote serial console server. If I had to purchase the device for a similar purpose, I would not mind it, I guess. But to run it in prod, I'm not very fond of it!
I manage Wi-Fi on a college campus, and we have implemented 802.1x with RADIUS authentication running on a Windows server, and that works well. The issue is that the college is looking at removing wired connections in the dorms in favor of just deploying wireless, and the gaming consoles (Xbox, PS3, etc. ) cannot support 802.1x. We use Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN controllers with 1142 and 3602 APs.
I would like to enable MAC address authentication for these gaming consoles, wherein we (IT) would enter the MAC address of the console for a single connection and allow that console to connect to Wi-Fi, but I do not want to use WEP or any other TKIP passwords, because once the students would know the password they would use WEP/WPA instead of authenticating through RADIUS for their PC/tablet connections. .
I would like to define a general policy for our company to set the log buffer ("logging buffered xxx"). Currently, most of our configs use the default value of 4096, which does not store much of the history. I'd like to see more, when logged onto a router. We are using different router platforms (from old 1700 up to 39xx oder 72xx) Can you give me any hints, how large the buffer can be set on a platform? Which checks should I do to determine, how large I can set the buffer?
Cisco says: "Total = the total amount of memory available after the system image loads and builds its data structures."So, in this example, the total bytes are 17803244, which is ~ 16.9 Mbyte. So, if I allocate 64000 bytes, my total buffer will decrease to ~16,3 Mbyte.
I my calculation above is correct, I see no problem in defining a standard value of "logging buffered 64000" for every router platform - even under high load conditions. Since 64 kbytes is a very small value compared to the total usable memory of a Cisco 1720, newer platforms should not have any problems either.
We are looking to replace some aging 3560 switches with 100Mb/s interfaces. They service IP phones and workstations.
For having IP phones directly connected to access switches that are also servicing workstations, we don't need L3 routing except in the core, so the question is what would we lose if we used 2960S switches for access switches.
I understand from having spoken with Cisco TAC that a limited subset of QoS is available on the 2960S platform. Does that includes the priority queue that is enabled when you turn on mls qos on a L3 switch?
Yesterday Cisco released IOS 15 code into the wild for the 2960 and 3560/3750 families but the link to the release notes is not working. Because I already have a whole bunch of 4500/Sup7's running IOS 15 I am thinking about taking the plunge with 30 3750-X's I have on order but want to review the release notes first. where they might be hiding?
I'm looking at implementing a new DMZ and wanted Netflow capability for security monitoring. The architectural principles I have to adhere to dictate that the switches within the DMZ are layer 2 however to get Netflow I need a minimum of a 3560/3750X, Network Services module, IP Base IOS with ip routing and CEF enabled. To do this and still keep the switch functioning as a layer 2 device the intention was not to configure SVI's or any static/dynamic routing protocols. Will Netflow still work in that scenario?
