Cisco WAN :: GSR 12000 - Show Commands For Individual Platforms?

How to understand "show sessions" and "show connection" commands? And what is the difference between the two?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently have an ASA 5545. What I want to do is allow our support team to perform ALL show commands (up to and including show run) but not enable them to perform ANY configuration changes on the devices (not get into config t). This is to allow them to check ARP tables, routing protocol status, etc
i don't have access to the ASA at the moment and haven't been able to figure it out in IOS, i'm assuming its not too hard.
I am planning to perform a failover drill between active and standy CSS loadbalancers which are configured in a cluster pair. I am looking for help to know what show commands I can run to validate that the failover occurred successfully from primary to secondary load balancer and that the VIP's have failed over successfuly as well.

After the initial failure and card reseat it has lasted almost 3 weeks, reseated it again today and it fell over again within a minute. Reseated again and it is stil up and passing traffic after an hour.
Trying to power cycle the card from the chassis fails, a remove/insert is required to get the card running.
Is this a memory failure on the SIP (CEF failure??) or some other odd fault with the SIP, that makes it require a card remove/reinsert?
I am doining a flsh upgrade for 12000 router ... I am following this guidelines

when i do show version | i image System image file is "disk0:c12k-os-mbi-3.6.0.CSCsy28524-1.0.0/mbiprp-rp.vm"
but at doc it says : System image file is "disk0:c12k-os-mbi-3.6.0/mbiprp-rp.vm" i think my image has something wrong. what do you say ? actually from step 1 to 16 was going smoothly , but step 17 doesnt go ... and i jump to Flash Disk Upgrade Abort Procedure section and i rollback to old flash disk and now it is working ....
Regarding to step 17, why standby PRP is not ready , it shows no valid partner ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found the following on the link bundling page for the 12000 series router:"In both EtherChannel and POS channel link bundles, the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) for signalling and the 802.3ad protocol for automatic negotiation of the channel are not supported. This means that in order for the channel between two routers to be active, you must disable signaling on switches (such as the Cisco 6500/7600 Series) in the channel, and configure the switches in ON mode."
So, my question is, if lacp isn't supported, is there another way to mimic its functionality on a 12000 series router? I want to connect 2 routers together with a port channel that will pass through our layer 2 network, and I want to make sure that any failures in the path will shut down the affected link on both routers.
What terminal/console server hardware platforms are you using and what do you prefer? I prefer Cisco terminal servers because of the ease and standard use of it.For a new project layout, I was given a opengear IMX4216. The terminal console is web based and I just dont like it(certain key-strokes not going through, terminal window size, etc). The project already has a separate PDU for remote power management, therefore this is simply being used as a remote serial console server. If I had to purchase the device for a similar purpose, I would not mind it, I guess. But to run it in prod, I'm not very fond of it!
View 18 Replies View RelatedI manage Wi-Fi on a college campus, and we have implemented 802.1x with RADIUS authentication running on a Windows server, and that works well. The issue is that the college is looking at removing wired connections in the dorms in favor of just deploying wireless, and the gaming consoles (Xbox, PS3, etc. ) cannot support 802.1x. We use Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN controllers with 1142 and 3602 APs.
I would like to enable MAC address authentication for these gaming consoles, wherein we (IT) would enter the MAC address of the console for a single connection and allow that console to connect to Wi-Fi, but I do not want to use WEP or any other TKIP passwords, because once the students would know the password they would use WEP/WPA instead of authenticating through RADIUS for their PC/tablet connections. .

I would like to define a general policy for our company to set the log buffer ("logging buffered xxx"). Currently, most of our configs use the default value of 4096, which does not store much of the history. I'd like to see more, when logged onto a router. We are using different router platforms (from old 1700 up to 39xx oder 72xx) Can you give me any hints, how large the buffer can be set on a platform? Which checks should I do to determine, how large I can set the buffer?
Here's an example of a Cisco 1720 router:
Cisco1720#sh mem
Head Total(b) Used(b) Free(b) Lowest(b) Largest(b)
Processor 81AECE9C 17803244 5548816 12254428 12010916 11815908
I/O 2B43000 4968448 1560416 3408032 3374144 3396668
Cisco says: "Total = the total amount of memory available after the system image loads and builds its data structures."So, in this example, the total bytes are 17803244, which is ~ 16.9 Mbyte. So, if I allocate 64000 bytes, my total buffer will decrease to ~16,3 Mbyte.
I my calculation above is correct, I see no problem in defining a standard value of "logging buffered 64000" for every router platform - even under high load conditions. Since 64 kbytes is a very small value compared to the total usable memory of a Cisco 1720, newer platforms should not have any problems either.
I have a mac and an android connected to a wireless network and can not open outlook express on both at the same time. Is that just the way it is.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are looking to replace some aging 3560 switches with 100Mb/s interfaces. They service IP phones and workstations.
For having IP phones directly connected to access switches that are also servicing workstations, we don't need L3 routing except in the core, so the question is what would we lose if we used 2960S switches for access switches.
I understand from having spoken with Cisco TAC that a limited subset of QoS is available on the 2960S platform. Does that includes the priority queue that is enabled when you turn on mls qos on a L3 switch?
Yesterday Cisco released IOS 15 code into the wild for the 2960 and 3560/3750 families but the link to the release notes is not working. Because I already have a whole bunch of 4500/Sup7's running IOS 15 I am thinking about taking the plunge with 30 3750-X's I have on order but want to review the release notes first. where they might be hiding?

I read some documents which reads Netflow ver.9 can be enabled on Cisco GSR 12000 Series, but no mention about catalyst switches. Netflow ver 9 can be activated on catalyst 6500 series.. because the point where switch is located already have mpls encapsulated packet ( mpls vpn packet).
I'm looking at implementing a new DMZ and wanted Netflow capability for security monitoring. The architectural principles I have to adhere to dictate that the switches within the DMZ are layer 2 however to get Netflow I need a minimum of a 3560/3750X, Network Services module, IP Base IOS with ip routing and CEF enabled. To do this and still keep the switch functioning as a layer 2 device the intention was not to configure SVI's or any static/dynamic routing protocols. Will Netflow still work in that scenario?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have configured a vlan interface on a 3750 switch. there is aprox 4Mb active traffic flowing through the interface, but when I do a "show interface vlan (vlanid)" the output show zero bits in and zero bits out. Its a typical L3 config with one IP on the vllan interface acting as the gateway for the VLAN devices. Is this a normal behaviur ? and if so is there any way to get the traffic in/out stats. The end PC/devices are connected to this switch via an L2 TRUNK and I dont have access to the L2 switch on which the actual devices connect. so cant get the real time stats of those interfaces.

View 4 Replies View Related how snmp monitoring works when we have WLC in the networking. Before the WLC 5508 instalation, we had the Nagios monitoring each Access Point in the networking. Today, the Nagios still monitoring the networking, but the Nagios cannot get the same information of the APs (CPU, status interface, memory, etc). Now, the WLC controls each AP, the IP address, netmask, community (of all AP) are the same before the WLC instalation. I have tried to configure the SNMP information in Management>>SNMP>>Communities, but these configuration are from WLC and not from each AP.
How can I configure the SNMP setting in my AP to still use the Nagios to monitoring the networking?

View 1 Replies View RelatedBest practices for an ASA5520. I'm currently running a pair of these as internal firewall for my organization, and have about 750 rules dictating traffic. A lot of the rules are for individual ports to specific server(s), some of them having 50+ ports opened. For example, Exchange has about 115 ports opened right now, anywhere from port 25 to 55000.
My question is that would it be better (faster, less strain on the ASA) to open a port range, (ie 52000-55000) or would the individual ports (ie: 52112, 52336, 52698,53441,53495, etc...) be ok?Obviously the individual ports are much more granular for security, but I don't want to take that into consideration now. Just strictly individual ports vs ranges.
A client is thinking of putting in a srp527w. they get assigned a static ip on the adsl interface (165.228.204.x), and then have been assigned another block(203.39.183.x/29).how can i have it so that i am able to forward individual ports from the external ip's, to selected internal ip's.

I have a small office (7) people and I don't have Active Directory setup. I'm wondering what is the best/easiest way to setup a place on a network server for the team to connect and put files that will then be backed up. With Active Directory this used to be a snap but I don't have much experience outside that realm. Here is how I'd like it to work:1) I login to server as admin, create the individual folders that users can map to. Example: Software Downloads, Jason, Robert, Billy, Carol2) I'd like to be able to set the security on the folders to say that everyone can view certain one but Jason can't view Roberts folder etc.

View 17 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if there is a method to redirect particular URLs to individual real servers in a server farm.Scenario: We have an url which is setup on our ACE4710s (A3 2.4) to load balancer to a particular server farm as per standard setup i.e.Customers access [URL] on an external VIP, this is then load balanced to a server farm "SF_WEBSITE" consisting of 2 real servers "Server_A" and "Server_B". Nothing difficult in this set up. However, I have eeen asked if it is possible to redirect certain urls to individual servers within the server farm "SF_WEBSITE": e.g.
Action 1 - Customers access [URL] is redirected to "Server_A" only
Action 2 - Customers access [URL] is redirected to "Server_B" only
Default Action - Customer access [URL] anything else is redirected to server farm "SF_WEBSITE" and is load balanced between "Server_A" and "Server_B"
The Standard Class Maps and Policy would be something like:
policy-map type loadbalance first-match SLB_WEBSITE
class class-default
serverfarm SF_WEBSITE
Where I thought I would need something like:
class-map type http loadbalance match-all CMAP_AREA1
description CMAP used to capture specific URL for area 1
2 match http url /area1
class-map type http loadbalance match-all CMAP_AREA2
description CMAP used to capture specific URL for area 2
2 match http url /area2
[code]...
I think the above method is ok for 1 instance, but if it test successfully, my company would want to to roll this out across dozens of server farm configurations each consisting of numerous real servers, which will make the administration and implementation time overheads massive, not to mention complicating and lengthening the configuration.
I am wondering if this is possible. We have multiple internet connections with fixed IP's coming into the office. We'd like to use one for FTP backup and another to service our websites. From what i have read a 5510 doesn't do policy based routing, but we'd like to configure our ftp server to use one of the internet pipes and our webserver to use another internet pipe. Is that possible?
We'd have two outside fixed IP interfaces and two internal interfaces. I could then use one of the internal interfaces for the web server and the other for the FTP server. consequently if the internal web server and FTP server use the fixed IP"s corresponding DNS server wouldn't that effectively route all FTP traffic out one interface and all web traffic out the other?
Then the FTP traffic would be NAT'ed to an internal interface and the HTTP & HTTPS traffic would be NAT'ed to a separate internal interface.
Then if each of the internal servers used the corresponding internal NIC on the ASA as it's gateway and the fixed IP's that correspond to the external DNS server, then it would affectively only use that gatway out for traffic? Would that work? Does it should route traffic out those pipes correct? Will the asa support two different next hop routers for the two different interfaces?
