Is there a client mode option for the DIR-655?I just got a nice cable modem/router from my ISP and I'd like to re-purpose my DIR-655.If I could turn a usb webcam, printer, or harddrive into wireless client, that would be cool. I would just rather re-purpose the device versus selling it.
View 2 RepliesI realized that when I connect dir825 on bridging mode to my current voip router provided by my ISP (dvg-n5402) ,shareport does not work as it seems to be using the default gateway to find the usb, which in this case default gateway goes to the gateway of my voip router. Is there any way that I can make shareport use the gateway of my dir825 instead?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have disabled all antivirus and firewall services on my PC and I can't get Shareport icon to turn green and recognize my DIR-655 (Hardware Version A4, 1.21 firmware). I've uninstalled the Shareport software twice. I use AVAST (but all services are disabled).The router setting is set to "USB Network" with a 30 second time out. I'm running WinXP SP3, 802.11G only.

Text prints OK, but photos only print parts then eject the page and print some more psycho garble on the next page....etc...I have done all the uninstall - reinstall drills.... same result.... Just don't understand why it WAS working for a while, and what changed to make it un-work now.... The software looks to be working, but the actual output is foobar....

I've setup my nano router in client mode and successfully connected it to my existing wireless network by manually setting it's IP address to 192.168.1.2. The existing router has the IP address 192.168.1.1.
I know this has worked as I'm able to access the web management page from any computer in the house by visiting the IP address 192.168.1.2. So far so good.
However, my problem is that the nano router cannot speak to the internet. If I login to the web management page and go to diagnostics, I can ping every other device on the network fine, but I can't ping anything outside the network (e.g. 8.8.8.8 or [URL].
I've tried in vain to get this setup correctly, all I can assume is that the nano router isn't correctly determining that the existing router (192.168.1.1) is where it should be routing all external requests and they're just getting lost, but there's no configuration for that on the web management pages.
I plugged the printer into the DIR-655 and downloaded Shareport. Nothing. HP Laserjet 1320

View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought a Windows 8 (64bits) computer, which is now part of my home network, but it has problems with Shareport. The other computers can be easily connected to a USB printer on my DIR-825 (HW B1) router, but the W8 computer refuses to completely install Shareport (both the CD version and the latest download v1.17). I also tried Shareport-Plus v4.11 (found on the DIR 835 page), which did install correctly, but was still unable to see the USB printer. What can be done? Can D-Link provide a new version of Shareport?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have hardware version B1, firmware version 2.00NA and several computers (wired & wireless) with Vista & Win 7 x64 and a Brother HL1440 printer.When I print something it comes out scrambled, images missing or cut off, empty pages, etc. This same setup worked fine when it was directly into one computer, then shared on the network though windows sharing. The problem was that computer had to be running to print off the network. I got the dir655 since it had printer sharing but so far its not been of any luck.

I don't know if this is a Shareport issue or an issue with the DIR-825 disabling the USB port.This happens after there is no PC connected to the router for a number of hours such as overnight. I have 1 laptop and 1 desktop running Win 7 64-bit and 1 laptop running Win 7 32-bit. The desktop is connected directly to the router and the laptops connect via wifi. All PCs work perfectly when the DIR-825 is reset.This isn't a big issue but it's extremely annoying and shouldn't happen. I use a Cisco WAG320 in my office that has similar USB functionality and this never happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirmware 2.07NA for version B1 units contains two bugs:
1 - An underscore in the Device Name causes a cryptic "37" error to appear when attempting to save any changes to the network settings. Version 2.03 allowed the underscore character. Other invalid characters, such as a "-", generate a more meaningful "Device name given is invalid" message.
Removing any underscores eliminates the error and allows settings to be saved.
2 - The upgrade breaks SharePort communications; the SharePort client utility cannot see the USB port on the device after upgrading from 2.03 to 2.07. This occurs with the latest 3.1.0 R 1 Utility (SXUPTP Driver: 3.4.6.0).
Downgrading back to 2.03 is a workaround.
I setup sharePort today and attached an external 1 TB hard drive. Seems that All my internet connections are slow now. I have a seperate PC that I use VPN to connect to work with and suddenly its very slow. My wife said her laptop suddenly slowed down too. The PC that I installed SharePort software seems slow too. Is/can SharePort be dragging down the router? I turned off the external HD and it's still slow.

My TL-WR700N does its job to provide wired internet to my desktop computer from another wireless router via client mode. However, when it is connected, the other wireless clients connected to the primary router lose their connections. To restore those connections, the WR700N must be powered down and the primary router must be restarted.

Am trying to use a TP-Link TL-WR702N to connect my Samsung SmartTV to a wireless network, using "client mode".For some reason, the TV refuses to accept it is connected, or even connected to a router. Enabling DHCP on the TP-Link does seem to convince the TV that it is connected to a router, but still not to the internet. Strangely though, I can control the TV via the Android app operating on the local network, so clearly it is connected. I assume the SmartTV is trying to get a response on the local network that the TP-Link is filtering out for some reason, but no idea why.
I have an HP OfficeJet J4500 that works fine with shareport on my Win7 x64 computer. the XP and Win2000 ones both have the same "partial page then lockup" problem. when this happens, the only way to disconnect shareport is to reboot the router. It shows connected to the same computer even if I reboot that computer. I started with V1?? from the install disk then tried 3 and finally 4 with no improvement. I have read several posts about this or similar problems. This is the primary reason I switched routers and bought the D-Link DIR-655, for the print server feature...

I'm trying to connect a non-wireless enabled pc to my virginmedia network by using a tp-link ta-wa500g router in client mode. The pc connects to the router via ethernet fine, and i can access the router admin page etc., but the router doesn't seem talk wirelessly to the virgin box. it finds it and everything, but i can't access the internet at all. i've tried removing the password, resetting everything, I've upgraded to the latest firmware, but have come to a bit of a dead end.

I have purchased 4 of these devices about 2 months ago and have experienced all of the issues reported within this thread. The came with the 2.0.0.5 FW rev installed, so unless the 2.0.0.5 on the cisco DL site is different, nothing I can do with that.I've tried making them work as stand alone AP's, Bridge<-> Bridge, etc... all modes seem to lock up eventually needing a reboot to get any functionality back.Ultimately, I need to make them work in AP<->Client-Repeater mode. I've not been successful in making them work in any mode for a prolonged period of time.

I have replaced my main router WRT300N running dd-wrt with the a stock E4200 and an old WRT54G aslo running dd-wrt configured for wireless client bridge. Now that I'm learning more about 802.11N, I was wondering what client can I use to achieve 5ghz simultaneously radio transmission since my current setup cannot do this in the 5ghz band. Can the E3000 be ran in wireless client bridge mode, if not what product can provide this? On the other thought am I understanding MIMO?

I was using WAP54G in our company in AP client mode to support "wired" connection to far workstation being part of Windows Domain (it needed network connection before logging to windows). It was working fine for a year, secured with WPA. this AP client was wirelessly connected to another WAP54G unit running regular AP mode.
Today was changing configuration on "AP client" , wanted to cvheck if WPA2 is supported while in AP client mode. well it wasn't, so ireverted the config back to what it was. after power cycle device stays in "bricked mode".
it doesn't boot up, LAN port inactive (like a cable unplugged), no WiFi, only 2 LEDs are lit permamently red POWER and yellow LINK. green ACT is dead. resetting is no luck, tried resetting it multiple times holding it with device powered on or off, tried 30/30/30 method, no luck.
finally took it apart (was out of warranty anyways) and shorted pin 16 (A18) on flash chip (Spansion) while powering up and it worked to the point when LAN interface becomes operational with 192.168.1.245 IP and i get ping response.
I thought that's it, would just re-load firware (original latest 3.04.03) and done. i was wrong. device takes fw via tftp, but immediately after tha it stops responding, green ACT never comes back online, reset still do not work. after power cycle LAN port is dead (as well as device) again. what has happened to it?
My current production network is setup using VTP in Client mode, and I am looking to enable VTP Transparent so I can enable the extended VLANs. My main question would be, would enabling VTP Transparent on my 6509 affect all of the access switches it is connected to? And if so, would changing all of the access switches to VTP Transparent allow them to regain connectivity quickly with little downtime? Or is there another way that I should be handling this situation to enable the extended VLANs?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat kind of hardware are people using for mobile bridges? I have not had good luck with Cisco 1242's in bridge mode with mobile-client enabled. The only reason we're using the Cisco access point over standard industrial bridges is because we need to manually forward the mac addresses of the devices behind the bridge. These are being installed on robotic forklifts. They have a generic ethernet scrolling marquee installed that does not maintain any active connections and drops from the fowarding table in the bridge if not staticly configured. I'm looking for an alternative because the roaming is not nearly as smooth as it should be.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP54G v3.1 running firmware version 3.05.01 and a WRT54G v3 running Tomato v1.28. The WAP54G is configured client mode and works perfectly. However, I was not able to get the two to communicate with WPA2 security - maybe, I just didn't try hard enough? Both devices are capable of doing WPA2 with AES but client mode doesn't seem to work with WPA2? I had to drop back to WPA-AES to make it work. Why is this?
