Only Getting 30Mbps From 100Mbps Line?
Dec 26, 2012
So i have the virgin 100Mbps package but am only getting about 30 Mbps of this on my computer. I know that we are getting the full speed, as that i have downstairs (directly connected to router) is able to get 100Mbps.The computer that is only getting 30 Mbps is connected to the router (Virgin superhup) through the use of powerline adapters to give me a wired conenction from my room down to the router as we are unable to find a cable long enough to procide a direct connection (without drilling holes through our house and having it hang places)[CODE]

Okay, I just replaced all my networking components in all my machines this week. I have three desktops 2 have Rosewill 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN PCIe card rated up to 300Mbps, one desktop with a Edimax USB wireless 802.11 b/g/n 150 Mbps, and a new Dlink DIR-615 route rated at 300 Mbps. So why is my transfer rate only 30 Mbps?

I just upgraded my connection from 15Mbps to 30Mbps. And I have the strange problem of not being able to go above 20Mbps. From what I understand a 10/100Mbps is technically able to do up to 100Mbps? (Ethernet connection, not wireless)I just got off customer support and they said it's normal that it's capped at 20Mbps, the lady that was serving, albeit nice, didn't seem to understand what she was saying so I didn't try to push to get more info.

Supervisor Engine 720 options support centralized forwarding rates up to 30Mbps and distributed forwarding rates up to 400Mpps. I never understood the claim of forwarding rate logic in mbps. How i can load the 6509 box to check this forwarding rate? How can the performance increase from 30mbps to 400mbps? is this just because of DFC on all the line cards if yes does it mean i have to add the DFC on SUP as well .

Virgin Media just upgraded my broadband to 100mbps. My main PC is in a place where unfortunately I cannot hard wire it to ethernet, and also the wifi signal is a bit rubbish - therefore I have been using D-Link Powerline AV Homeplugs DHP-307 200Mbps (N.B. I am fully aware that 200mbps doesn't really mean that through homeplugs, please read on)
Ages ago when my I first set this up my connection speed from Virgin Media was 50mbps and, after installing, I tested it a few times and got about 45mbps, which I was happy with.
However, due to the upgrade I thought I would test it again, and now I'm only gettin about 20-25Mbps. I did some diagnistic checks as follows:
A laptop plugged directly into my router via ethernet got 97 Mbps My laptop sitting next to my PC connected via wifi got 54 Mbps My PC connected via wifi with the ethernet/homeplug disconnected got 26 Mbps (I think my wireless card in the PC and the aeriel are both a bit rubbish though anyway)My PC connected via ethernet homeplug with no wifi got 23 Mbps
What I don't understand is:
1 - In the configuration utility for the homeplugs it says that the link speed for this plug is 96 Mbps, so how come that's not coming through?
2 - Why would it have one time been higher and now not? If it wasn't for point 1 above I might put it down to interference in the elecrical circuits, but I thought that's what the link speed would be showing me
I guess the best option would be to try and get VM to install a proper ethernet port in my study, however I can't imagine how they would do this without running cables through the house, which I don't want, so I'm trying to exhaust other options. I'm happy to ditch the homeplugs if there is something better.

It seems that Cisco mentioned, in their data sheet of 2921 ISR, that it can support up to 50Mbps. However, from Google search, it says 2921 can handle 100Mbps with no problem.I am planning on getting 2921 ISR in small office where only ~10 people are connected to it. And we do have two different line of 100Mbps ISP internet line and wish to share them in the office.I am confused why ~$2k router can not support 100Mbps where ~$100 consumer routhers like Linksys has no problem with handling that speed. The reason why I am planning on 2921 is the rich feature like Voip solution (CME) it offeres. I have several remote offices that needs to be connected with Voip phones. and I could go with UC500 series but it seems to me UC500 does not support IP Phone 9900 series.

The reason is i want to know the difference between the leased line and the DSL line. The whole thing behind the confusion is, We plan to have a high speed internet connection in our office. We will don't have a branch office or some thing like that. I preffered to have high speed internet in our office. I found in some website that Lease line will have high speed connectivity(Upto 10Gbps). Can i use the lease line or DSL is enough for our office. Our office contains of 82 user who will use internet.

I have a PC with a Realtek onboard Ethernet controller, running Windows XP. It's connected to an Asus RT-n16 router loaded with TomatoUSB, via a Cat5e cable. When I set it up a month or two ago, I confirmed that I was getting a Gigabit connection to it--the little network connection icon in the Windows XP taskbar indicated "1.0 Gbps." All well and good. I just happened to check it today, and it now says "100Mbps." Nothing, as far as I know, has changed to the configuration. I went into the Device Manager, and saw that under the driver settings, in "Speed", it was set to "Auto-Negotiate." When I tried setting that to "1.0 Gbps" instead, the network connection icon in XP's taskbar once again indicated "1.0Gbps." As an experiment, I then changed it back to Auto-Negotiate, and once again the taskbar icon read "100Mbps."So I guess I have two questions. 1) Should I leave the driver setting on 1Gbps rather than Auto-Negotiate? (2) Why might the speed have switched from 1Gbps to 100Mbps over the past month if nothing's changed?

I have charter cable coming tomorrow to install cable television and internet. I am using my own modem and router instead of renting one because they dont have any available to meet the install date?Should I just rent one from them and wait or should I just buy a different cable modem. I will be getting the Ultra cable package from charter that has speeds up to 100Mbps download and 5Mbps upload. I would say it is going to run around 60. I have a RCA DCM315 modem and a Linksys WRT54G v6 router with DD-WRT firmware. max up and down speed for the RCA DCM315 modem.

We are using Cisco Wireless solution in our network. Using 4400/5500 WLCs and 3500/1130 series APs.
A new requirement has come up and we need to provide connectivity between two buildings (which are within 1 km) using wireless. This link should be able to give >=100Mbps.
As we already have 3500/1130 APs, can a wireless bridge be established using them which can also give >=100Mbps? Can this be done using a WLC based solution? What I mean is: Do I need to have a standalone AP solution or can it be done while both the APs register to WLC? What are the AP models/antennas that can meet my requirement?

I am looking for a simple router recomendation for multihoming dual 100Mbps internet connections with BGP routing. What are the current best practices regarding required resources for the full Internet BGP routing table? We were thinking of specing a 3945 for this application, but is that overkill? The customer has a 2821 that is not in use, I'm thinking this would be too slow for Internet BGP routing combined with the 100Mbps line speed.

Vista 64 Intel Pro 1000 with latest driver Here is a shot of the lagometer in COD Black Ops when all is good. I used to see this with my old WRT54GS and connected at 100Mbps Full Duplex or Half Duplex and I currently see this when connected through the E4200 at 100Mbps full or half duplex AND when connected via Gigabit via one of the 4 ports on the back of my cable modem, a Motorola SBG6580 [URL] This next screen capture is what happens when I try to connect via Gigabit thru the E4200. It either starts out like this right away or within 30 seconds to a minute this will start to occur. I believe the red spikes indicate packet loss. [URL]
