Setup Of 2 Routers In Line

Dec 28, 2011

We have multiple computers (most Win7), game console, iPad,iPod etc on our network, networking was really never a problem. We switched a few weeks ago to mobile Internet, which uses the Netgear MBR1210 modem/router as network access point for all devices. All network users, except two or three, are wireless. Prior to getting the mobile Internet we were on Satellite ISP and used the Linksys 3200 router as access point/network router for our home network (behind the ISP modem). The Netgear modem/router is too far away from my work area in the home, things like my printer, a desktop tower need to be plugged into a router because they are not wireless. The plan is to have the netgear router set up just as a modem/server, turn the wireless off on it, pull one network cable to my Linksys 3200 and use the Linksys as network access point for all devices. Which settings do I have to have on each router to do this? Where do I plug the network cable in between the routers? Do I go from a Lan port on the Netgear to the Wan port on the Linksys?

Which IP settings do I specify? How do I turn the automatic configuration of the Linksys off? Needless to say, I'm a bit lost here. I had contacted a Netgear forum prior, they gave me a little picture on how everything should be hooked up and the settings, but the Linksys router just did not want to work with these settings at all. Secondly, because of all this screwing around with the settings of the Linksys.I uninstalled the cisco connect program for the linksys and removed the original network we had with the linksys. Now the program refuses to install again, cisco connect that is.

How To Use Two Routers On One Phone Line

Feb 2, 2013

I usually use the router supplied by my ISP in one room in the house which is where I use all my.computer stuff as I am the only one who uses the internet in our house. However, my sister is round at the moment and the crap router cannot reach her room or the lounge.I thought I would be able to connect a spare router to a phone line port in the lounge with the correct settings along with the original router. However, if one router works, the other stops working. Only.one router will connect to the ISP at any time, I want both to so that we can all use the internet.

Broadband :: Connect 2 ADSL Routers On 1 BT Line?

Feb 19, 2011

Our church has 1 phone line, we run BTBusiness Broadband at one of the building where we have a couple of charities based. We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.

Routers / Switches :: Connecting 30 PCs To A T1 Line And 1 Workgroup

Feb 7, 2011

I have a building with 30+ pc's, printers and cameras. I do not have a "server" setup, however I want them to be connected to the T1 line comming into the building for internet as well as file sharing, etc.Currently, I have the T1 line connecting to as Linksys E3000 wireless router. From there I have a cable connected to the wireless router (it has 4 ports also) and then going to a Netgear FS524 (24 Port 10/100 MBPS Fast Ethernet Switch) via port number 24. I then have another CAT5 cable connected to a port on this switch, extending to a D-Link DES-1024D (another 24 Port, 10/100 switch)I then have the 30+ CAT5 cable coming into all three of said devices... No then, I get Internet connection on all units, the problem is that I cannot see all of the devices.

Connecting 2 Routers Through One Phone Line On Different Sockets

Aug 4, 2011

I've seen loads of people connecting 2 routers, but they're usually connecting the routers together (as in connecting 1 router to another, which is connected to both the internet and the PC) to boost the performance of the current router, or connect more devices. What seems to be hard to find is what I want to do.

The situation is, I have a Sky Broadband Router (a specialised Sagem router from Sky Broadband ISP) in the back room of my house, and it's wireless range can't reach the front room of my house (where I want to use my wireless laptop). Moving the router is not an option, so I purchased a Belkin 300N Router and plugged it into another phone socket at the front of the house (the phone line was originally just at the front of the house, but was extended to another socket at the back of the house, the one the Sky Router is connected to).

The router is working, but seems to be clashing with the Sky Router, it can't connect unless I turn the Sky Router off, and the Sky router always overrides the Belkin one. I've seen some posts about syncing routers when they're connected, but these aren't, they're just on the same phone line, how to stop them clashing?

I got told if I changed the IP address of the Belkin Router to one similar to the Sky one, and disabled DCHP it would work, but this just messed the Belkin Router up and I had to give it a factory reset!

Cisco Routers :: Does RV180W Offer Command-line Interface

Apr 15, 2012

12 users, 3 servers, 5 smartphones/tables on the WiFi (existing AP), future VPN server (maybe 5 simultaneous inbound VPN connections at the most with at least one client using a Mac), Cisco Gigabit small business switch.Internet access, VPN connectivity, and firewall (reporting, close/open ports for custom applications as needed)I was originally going to select an ASA5505-50 user device for the above client.  The device is highly regarded on the Internet, offers a command line interface, priced right for the budget and should perform all duties required by the client. However, the addition of the RV180W to the Cisco product line has me questioning my choice.

1)Does the RV180W offer a command-line interface?

2)Is the RV180W limited in the number of users it can support without having to purchase additional user licenses?

3)How are firmware/software upgrades handled with the RV180W?

4)What will the client be giving up if they choose the RV180W vs. the ASA5505?

Adding A 2nd Router To DSL Line?

Dec 3, 2012

I currently have DSL and I have my router connected to the phone line in my home office and have 3 computers (2 business & 1 gaming) connected to the router via ethernet cable, works great. What I want to do is take the gaming computer to the game room in the basement and hook it up to the internet down there. Since it's a gaming computer I want to connect it to a router with ethernet cable for the fastest possible upload and download speeds (I do not want to use WiFi because I play flight sims and FPS and WiFi is too slow/laggy for online play).

1. Can I connect a second router into the phone/DSL line in the basement then hook up the gaming computer to the second router and get internet access like I have in the home office?

2. If I ran an ethernet cable from the home office router to a second router in the basement, would the long length of the ethernet cable adversely affect the connection speed (bit rate) of the second router? (would I get slower internet access in the basement?)
