adding/removing/re-adding a workstation to a domain and Active Directory. We use DHCP at work for our addressing scheme. The problem I had when naming a new workstation the same as the one I am replacing on the domain was that I noticed the new pc with that same computer name as the previous pc was still trying to use the IP address that was assigned to the workstation before by dhcp, so the new workstation was not showing it assigned an IP address. I would try pinging the computer name but there was no reply because it was still showing the ip address of the computer disconnected that had the same name.
- remove the faulty workstation from the domain to workgroup, then restart
- then from Active Directory do I need to reset the Computer name
- then do a ipconfig /release on faulty workstation that has been removed from the domain to release the leased ip address in dhcp
- then disconnect the faulty PC and connect the PC I am using to replace the previous PC
- Name this workstation the same as the one I just disconnected and removed from the domain

we have 2xNexus model 7010 (let's call them Nexus1 and Nexus2) connected via VPC to a couple of catalyst 6509 switch.Trunking has been enabled on the port-channel defined on both Nexus allowing some vlans.Below the config applied on both port-channel interfaces on both Nexus which are members of the same VPC number: [code]
supposing I'd need to remove some vlans from that trunk (e.g. vlan 100,200 and 300) using command "switchport trunk allowed vlan remove 100,200,300" and that I'll run that command on Nexus at a time (that means there'll be a condition for a short period of time where Nexus1 has removed vlan 100,200 and 300 from the trunk, while Nexus2 is still carrying those 3 vlans on its port-channel which is a VPC member) , could it cause any VPC inconsistency condition suspending VPC interfaces and therefore affecting the service for all remaining Vlans or only Vlan 100, 200 and 300 will be suspended when that condition will be detected?
I have a frustrating issue with a dynamic VPN head end running IOS 15.2 on 2900's. I have existing keyrings, and isakmp profiles (both main and agressive) running. When I add in a new peer, by adding in a keyring prechared statement and a match identity in the isakmp profile, phase 1 biulds but phase 2 only gets right to the end and the Cisco side resets the connection because it did not get back a response to it's Phase 2 proposal.I have tried a number of soft clear commands to remedy this (I do have 16 other production tunnels I do not want to take down) and no avail. This is very consistent. We had this happen last week in the same manner, and the TAC finally said I must reboot the system. So I removed the cmap from the interface, and reapplied it (using notepad to do it all at once). All the tunnels dropped, and after a few manual restarts on the far end for thos etunnels that are tempermental, all tunnels came back up, including my new add.I have a pair of 3900's running 15.1 code in the US that terminate the same tunnels, and I can add and remove PEERS all day long without resetting anything. Could there be a more polite way of resetting what ever it is that removing the CMAP does to allow my new peer to get the full treatment here?
I am a bit confused by the output of 'show run' and 'show run switch-profile' that pertains to a port-channel interface configured in a switch-profile. My main gaol is to find out how can I add/remove the allowed vlans the port-channel (configured as trunk) carries. The setup is like this. I have 2 N5k in vPC domain and Etherner1/11 on both switches is configured as trunk vPC that connects to a core switch. When I issue ‘show run’ for the port-channel and physical interface I get the following output. [code] From above it seems the switch-profile configuration is missing the 'switchport trunk allowed vlan' in the port-channel interface. If want I to remove vlan 30 from the allowed vlan, should I go under the switch-profile mode and remove vlan 30 from the allowed list even though the switch-profile configuration seems to be missing this.
I have a Cisco SG300 switch on which trunks are configured. I have a server which sits on the switch via a trunk link of four network cables (4 Gbps total)on which LACP is enabled. I'm having trouble connecting to the server using VNC from a computer on the network. It doesn't happen all the time though, it's just random.
On looking at the logs of the switch, I saw something unusual. The trunk that connects the switch to the server is constantly removing all the member ports and adding them back again after a few minutes interval. That causes the trunk link to flip on and off all the time. What could be the reason that's causing it to happen? I know it could be the network cable but I'm using brand new cables and the server also is brand new.
I have installed Windows Server 2008R2 on a virtual machine and have setup AD and a domain name called nuggetlab.com and is the first DC. I've created another VM and again installed Windows Server2008r2 and want to add a second DC to the forest root domain. When i run dcpromo and at the option 'Choose deployment conifiguration' wizard i select Existig forest >Add a domain controller to an existing domain > Next, the next screen appears and i type in the domain as nuggetlab.com but when i enter the credentials under 'Alternatate credentials' and enter the admin username and password, i receive an error saying that it cannot be contacted. When i press the details button i can see the description[CODE]

But when I was done, the other computer users, and even the new ones were complaining about not being able to access the DEFCON5 (name of our server) folder to get what they needed.
Basically the only workstations that show up when I click Network are the computers I added the other day, and the computer that is used more than any other computer (the CEO's). We can still access the files by typing the location as \DEFCON5****** and find what we need. But not everyone at my office is computer savy (no body is) and I would like to not have to keep running around and showing everyone this.

Not the best model, I know.Went to the server room a few minutes ago and found that "network drives," (P:), (L:) and (M:) seem to be invisible. We are having several workstations that are momentarily losing connection to our Windows Server 2008 machine that hosts their Documents etc.It seems like a momentary disconnection and not everyone has complained although I'm guessing that unless you are trying to locate a file etc at that moment you might not notice.Here is the error message I see in the event logs on the server:

While transmitting or receiving data, the server encountered a network error. Occassional errors are expected, but large amounts of these indicate a possible error in your network configuration. The error status code is contained within the returned data (formatted as Words) and may point you towards the problem.So, where would you guys start with something like this? Either my HP Procurve 1800-24G doesn't have much in the way of error logs, or I don't know where to look.Would you start with changing port on the switch, changing network cable or do you think it's more likely to be something on the server itself?
I have an ASA5505 where vlan1 (inside) and all associated ports (e0/1 - e0/7) are down. Workstations on vlan 1 are online and working. Vlan2 (outside) is up and running normally. I tried to shut/no shut on the vlan. I also rebooted the firewall. No change. Why vlan1 is down?? I've attached some config info and some troubleshooting.
Recommend a low-cost Cisco-branded router/firewall for a clinic with perhaps 10 user workstations? We're looking for something that will support attaching a static VPN to a data center.
Currently we're using a Cisco RV082 in our office, but there might be a device which is more appropriate for the next office we connect to the data center. On the data center side we're using a Juniper SSG5.
Under Service in Win NT 2008 server, how can I remove the auto-shut down task schedule for all students' computers in the classrooms. It always popup a message box at 5:30pm - "auto shutdown" in all workstations (win xp). How to remove that from "service" and not affecting the server to shutdown? Click where to disable/stop it?
I have a WRV210 router setup with WPA personal-AES encryption...SSID is turned on. The issue is that workstations lose connectivity to the internet and to a mapped network drive on the server. When this happens I find that the wireless status shows "connected", along with excellent signal strength. It never happens when logging on, just after so many minutes. The simple remedy is to repair wireless connection but we would like to not have to resort to this behavior every day. Further, I found that within the repair connection sequence that deleting the address resolution protocol table, brings the internet and the ability to access a mapped network drive back. I even used a program called arpfreeze to assign static ip's to the arp table and I still had to repair wireless connection. It does not matter where the workstations are placed, whether sitting 50 feet away or 5 feet from the router, the workstations lose the ability to access internet and mapped drive while showing "connected" and excellent signal strength. Otherwise, we are looking at running ethernet cables through the building (Not easy).
I'm completely illiterate with Cisco appliances but I'm taking care of an ASA 5505 that is configured as a firewall and it has been working for the last years. All of the sudden we are experiencing intermittent connection problems from the workstations. You can be browsing the internet and suddently you'll get a server not found error but you refresh it and it works. This is also intermittent, out no apparent reason it will start working normally again.

We have a number of sites running Cisco 881 routers. A few of the sites are connected by IPSec VPN tunnels that have been configured using Cisco CCP without any issues until now. On one location I can ping from a workstations on Site1 to Site2, however I cannot ping from the same workstation on Site2 back to Site1.
Here is a strange behavior. If I have a continuous ping going from Site1 - Site2 and then start a continuous ping from Site2 - Site1 then I get a response until I stop the ping from Site1 - Site2. Site 1 has approximately 5 successful tunnels with absolutely no issues.

For additional troubleshooting I established a VPN tunnel from Site2 to our office Site3 with no issues at all. Site3 happens to be one of the VPN tunnels that connects to Site1 with no issues. I have seen a number of articles on this on the net and gone through the troubleshooting steps of an article such as [URL]. The tunnel is confirmed as up when I have done all my troubleshooting.
I am in the process of selling my notebook computer. I did a fresh install of Windows XP and connected to my home router using my WPA security key in order to get the latest updates before selling it. For security sake, I feel I should remove my security key before packaging up the notebook for shipment. I guess my question is, how do I go about removing my security key from the notebook? Or is this not even necessary
Desktop running Windows 7 Home Edition and connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear DG834G v2. Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows XP media edition and connected wirelessly and an iMac connected wirelessly.I did not realise until yesterday that even if I shutdown the desktop I can still connect the laptop and Mac wirelessly. I now want to stop using the present desktop and connect a new desktop with an Epson printer which my wife will use on the other side of the room. I will use the present desktop monitor on this new system. Is it easy to set this up? Also I want to remove Windows 7 from the old desktop and install it on the new desktop, will I have to contact Microsoft to do thie?
We have a home network setup. My HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 64 laptop running Vista, shares the printer with an older desktop, AMD Athlon 1600 XP. The printer is hooked up to the older computer that I am getting rid of. I assume I will have to install the software for the printer onto my laptop so I can use it. Is there anything else I should do? Other than removing all the files etc off the old computer.

I just purchased a dell 660 (non slim version) and want to remove the wireless card as it will never be used. Would it be ok to remove the single screw / card + the two antenna wires and then leave it like that?
We have a network of approximately 20 computers, network printers, and one Windows 2003 Server (used simply as a file server). I have an issue with two specific Windows 7 Pro workstations that just will not logon. The username and password details we're using are correct, but the server rejects them. I can logon using the same account from any other Windows 7 Pro workstation, or Windows XP station, so I know the issue is specific to the two workstations communicating with the server.
Both afftected stations show Logon attempted by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_1_0 error 0xC000006A which all searches on Google point towards incorrect login credentials, however I've tried plenty of perfectly valid login credentials and they don't work either.I've tried checking that the 128bit option on the Windows 7 machines is disabled in file sharing etc.
