The problem I had when naming a new workstation the same as the one I am replacing on the domain was that I noticed the new pc with that same computer name as the previous pc was still trying to use the IP address that was assigned to the workstation before by dhcp, so the new workstation was not showing it assigned an IP address. I would try pinging the computer name but there was no reply because it was still showing the ip address of the computer disconnected that had the same name.
- remove the faulty workstation from the domain to workgroup, then restart
- then from Active Directory do I need to reset the Computer name
- then do a ipconfig /release on faulty workstation that has been removed from the domain to release the leased ip address in dhcp
- then disconnect the faulty PC and connect the PC I am using to replace the previous PC
- Name this workstation the same as the one I just disconnected and removed from the domain
-Add this PC to the domain and restart

But when I was done, the other computer users, and even the new ones were complaining about not being able to access the DEFCON5 (name of our server) folder to get what they needed.
Basically the only workstations that show up when I click Network are the computers I added the other day, and the computer that is used more than any other computer (the CEO's). We can still access the files by typing the location as \DEFCON5****** and find what we need. But not everyone at my office is computer savy (no body is) and I would like to not have to keep running around and showing everyone this.
Is it possible for Windows 7 to host multiple domains? I have seen that it is available for plenty of other OSs and I am sure that it is. I just wanted to make sure.

The server starts fine, ports are forwarded, firewall is down, modem is fine, but when I receive a connection, it shows they have made a connection, but then they drop, as do I. I can't browse or ping anywhere. I have to physically disconnect, then reconnect the ethernet cable to the port, or restart the computer. Upon ipconfig, the adapter is set with the Windows default ip (169.x.x.x) and cannot be /release'd or /renew'd.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are having several workstations that are momentarily losing connection to our Windows Server 2008 machine that hosts their Documents etc.It seems like a momentary disconnection and not everyone has complained although I'm guessing that unless you are trying to locate a file etc at that moment you might not notice.Here is the error message I see in the event logs on the server:

I recently signed up with AT&T U-Verse. They required that I buy a 2Wire 3600 HGV router. I looked up how to forward ports -- and even called an AT&T representative -- and I am sure that I forwarded them correctly. I'm trying to host a Minecraft Server. I forwarded port 25565 in TCP and in UDP. After that wouldn't work, the AT&T representative said that the traffic was being blocked from my side. I then checked my Windows Firewall and allowed all proper applications -- Minecraft and Minecraft Server. When that wouldn't work, I went in an manually added exceptions to Windows Firewall for TCP - 25565 and UDP - 25565 Inbound and the same for Outbound. Nothing.I have tried to check the ports in DMZ mode with Windows Firewall disabled -- they are still timing out. What should I do?

I have also been looking at a Cat6509 with a SUP2-GE Supervisor Engine. At the moment i am getting my connection from a ISP but i am going to get my own BGP AS now.. My question is just, how much will the SUP720 be able to route, and how many routes will i need to get it to route my packets in and out of my AS? I have seen that the full BGP table is over 400,000 and the SUP720 is only capable of 256,000, but do i really need the full table? I
major differences between the SUP720 and SUP2-GE Supervisor Engines?
I have an ASA5505 where vlan1 (inside) and all associated ports (e0/1 - e0/7) are down. Workstations on vlan 1 are online and working. Vlan2 (outside) is up and running normally. I tried to shut/no shut on the vlan. I also rebooted the firewall. No change. Why vlan1 is down?? I've attached some config info and some troubleshooting.

I am setting up a webserver to host our website on our local network. When I'm browsing from an external network, I can pull our website example.com and a sub domain test.example.com. However, when I'm browsing from our internal network, I cannot pull up test.example.com. I am not sure if this is due to propigation issues or what.When I do nslookup from external, it shows my network's main IP address. When I do it from local, it can't find an address and says non-existent domain.Should I have any problems connecting to my website if it is using my external IP address? Will this be a loopback problem? If so, how can I resolve this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had setup 2 servers at home. I'm now in need of hosting 4 websites. I have 4 static public ip's. I'm currently using a router with DD-WRT firmware installed. I have setup up as static NAT. X.X.X.27 to 192.168.0.100, X.X.X.28 to 192.168.0.101. This is my current setup for the existing 2 webservers which host a website each. I notice apache allows for multiple websites per server. One of the server's is a dell 2500 with 2 NIC's and will not be a problem assigning two ip's. The second server only has 1 NIC. Should I buy another NIC card for the second server or could I get by using a virtual NIC? The load on the servers isnt heavy. Only bout 20 clients connect to them daily.

Under Service in Win NT 2008 server, how can I remove the auto-shut down task schedule for all students' computers in the classrooms. It always popup a message box at 5:30pm - "auto shutdown" in all workstations (win xp). How to remove that from "service" and not affecting the server to shutdown? Click where to disable/stop it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a WRV210 router setup with WPA personal-AES encryption...SSID is turned on. The issue is that workstations lose connectivity to the internet and to a mapped network drive on the server. When this happens I find that the wireless status shows "connected", along with excellent signal strength. It never happens when logging on, just after so many minutes. The simple remedy is to repair wireless connection but we would like to not have to resort to this behavior every day. Further, I found that within the repair connection sequence that deleting the address resolution protocol table, brings the internet and the ability to access a mapped network drive back. I even used a program called arpfreeze to assign static ip's to the arp table and I still had to repair wireless connection. It does not matter where the workstations are placed, whether sitting 50 feet away or 5 feet from the router, the workstations lose the ability to access internet and mapped drive while showing "connected" and excellent signal strength. Otherwise, we are looking at running ethernet cables through the building (Not easy).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm completely illiterate with Cisco appliances but I'm taking care of an ASA 5505 that is configured as a firewall and it has been working for the last years. All of the sudden we are experiencing intermittent connection problems from the workstations. You can be browsing the internet and suddently you'll get a server not found error but you refresh it and it works. This is also intermittent, out no apparent reason it will start working normally again.
I am seeing a bunch of errors like this in the logs:

We have a number of sites running Cisco 881 routers. A few of the sites are connected by IPSec VPN tunnels that have been configured using Cisco CCP without any issues until now. On one location I can ping from a workstations on Site1 to Site2, however I cannot ping from the same workstation on Site2 back to Site1.
Here is a strange behavior. If I have a continuous ping going from Site1 - Site2 and then start a continuous ping from Site2 - Site1 then I get a response until I stop the ping from Site1 - Site2. Site 1 has approximately 5 successful tunnels with absolutely no issues.

For additional troubleshooting I established a VPN tunnel from Site2 to our office Site3 with no issues at all. Site3 happens to be one of the VPN tunnels that connects to Site1 with no issues. I have seen a number of articles on this on the net and gone through the troubleshooting steps of an article such as [URL]. The tunnel is confirmed as up when I have done all my troubleshooting.
I have set VPN clientr connection in windows 7 . Afetr connecting to the VPN I am not able to connect my intranet company sites, but I am able to connect the internet sites. I have made host entries in host files. All the other sites are working fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe're trying to set up netflow based billing for our hosting environment. We're dual homed to two different ISPs using BGP peering with each (ASN 18817). The drawing below shows the logical setup: The routers are each Cat6506E with Sup32 and PFC3B/MFSC2A running 12.2(33)SXJ. The direct link between is layer 3 (routed ports) for iBGP peering. The dark line is a layer 2 LAN made up of multiple switches (not shown) each connected to both 6500's with spanning-tree for loop protection. These switches also provide a layer-2 path between routers but the configured BGP peering is set to the layer-3 port IP on the link. There is at least one firewall connected directly to a 6500. The firewalls are all ASAs connected to any one of the not-shown mid-span switches. The router interfaces to the layer-2 LAN is a VLAN SVI using GLBP to provde a redundant gateway. There are multiple subnets on this vlan configured as secondary IP addresses on the VLAN interface (and in the GLBP gateway configs).
The question is: how do we collect stats from all traffic to/from the internet without collecting any local traffic (firewall to firewall) and without getting duplicate flows sent to our collector?
I was hoping to just put "ip flow ingress" and "ip flow egress" on the ISP facing L3 ports but that's not actually collecting outgoing flows (appears egress netflow may not be supported on the 6500). I added "ip flow ingress" to the VLAN interface but that didn't seem to fix it so I also addes the global command "ip flow ingress layer2-switched vlan 50". However after a small change to the layer2 LAN some (but not all) of our clients saw a near doubling of bandwidth (according to netflow). We compared the netflow stats to the server port usage stats for one client and it looks like we were under reporting before the change and appear to be over-reporting now. I'm thinking the overage is either because we're counting MLS traffic flowing between subnets on the layer-2 LAN but can't verify. With GLBP moving the default gateway and MSTP blocking at least one uplink from a mid-span switch to a 6500, traffic flows can be difficult to predict. Especially when you don't know exactly when a flow gets accounted. For instance, if a packet comes into one 6500 becase that's the only layer-2 path to the gateway BUT the gateway is currently on the other 6500, does the first 6500 count that flow or does the second one count it or will both? etc etc.
I have been stuck in a strange problems which happens occasionally--but too often to be ignored.I have a Windows 2003 Server running as a virtual machine via MS Virtual PC 2007. The host machine is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This setup used to run fine where I had no issues accessing the guest OS (Win 2003). My development environment is Visual Studio 2005 and 2010 based, both running on the host machine.Some days ago I started working on a ASP .NET application which had a lots of files on the guest OS. That would cause the dreaded 'Network Bios Limit Reached' error in VS. So tweaked a few Registry keys on both host and guest and that problem went away. But then I started to get a new kind of problem: Occasionally, within VS 2010, I could not save files and that would be so bad that the entire guest OS cannot be browsed (but can be seen in the Network Neighborhood and be pinged as well).I have undone all Registry changes in both guest and host but I still see this problem. Only the virtual machine running Win 2003 is occasionally un-browseable but still ping-able by other intranet computers: Win xp, vista, Win 7 but cannot browse until the guest win 2003 is re-started.Is it some kind of network buffer being too full? So far I only see this problem when working inside Visual Studio 2010 but it could be happening elsewhere. The guest win 2003 is assigned a static ip of 192.168.1.7 by the router, btw.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI would like to setup multiple DMZs for our hosting servers. Currently there is a single DMZ in which our reverse proxy servers are connected using a public IP address. The idea is to have the reverse proxy forward the request from the Internet to the hosting servers in another DMZ. The purpose of the hosting DMZ is to protect it from the outside as well as from the inside. There will also be a development DMZ where we can test content prior to going live with the website.
Network: We currently have two Cisco 6509's (Core) with a FWSM in each running active/stanby configuration. There is a 10Gb Fiber connection between each Cisco switch to two Cisco 4948s (Top of Rack Switches). I can either setup OSPF or Trunking between the core and top of rack switches. The Cisco 4948s will support VLAN 7 (hosting DMZ 10.0.7.0/24) and VLAN 8 (development DMZ 10.0.8.0/24). Each webserver is connected to both Cisco 4948 for redundancy.
Question: If I have a single interface connecting both VLANs 7 and 8, either through Layer 2 or 3, then how can pass both DMZ traffic to the appropriate servers? The reason why the servers are in the same rack connected to the same two switches is that we are using Blade Servers and VMWare.

These users save the documents in their department folders, which are only acessible by their department and I.T. (me). Right now I have a .bat file that checks every half hour of the work day to see if it has been updated, if it has it will be moved to a location in the Intranet folder which will update the link on the Intranet. While users can view the Intranet, they do not have access to view the files or folders that house the Intranet html coding etc.This option works but our users are complaining that it isn't instantaneous. Any ideas how I can do this on a network while keeping everyone's security in place and not give them extra rights to the Intranet folders?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just set up a new Cisco 300 Series Switch to replace an old switch on our network. We have probably 6 switches around our facility, all of them working fine (except for this one).
We have Windows SBS 2008. If I plug a PC directly into the switch that is NOT configured for SBS (in other words, it hasn't joined the domain) I have no problems accessing the internet. However if I connect PCs configured for SBS that have joined the domain to the switch, they can only access our intranet and not connect out to the internet.
The switch is currently configured for a static IP address and the client PCs are all dynamic.
