I have a 1.25 mbps download and .2 upload speed. I have a netgear n600 router and have wireless and cannot change to wired. I have around a 120 ping all most always. My current speed is the best in my area too. Is there any kind of equipment that will give me a lower ping for online gaming? Is there any router settings for this?

I have wireless 25mb internet in my house but the router is not in my room it is about 25 meters away in my parents room. I experience latency with my current set up while gaming online so I have decided to switch to wired. What is my best option for doing so? Running a wire through from the router to my room would be possible but I need to know if the length will effect performance and what type of Ethernet cable I would need (including estimated price). The other option is to move the router from that room to mine but im not familiar with how this would be done and what the costs would be

For example, even if it doesn't, let's assume Playstation Network uses port 250. How would I manually find this out? And once I find this out, how do I find out what ports any particular game uses? This way I can forward all of these ports in my router. Also, am I correct in assuming that I could simply skip all of this port forwarding and just assign my Playstation 3 a static IP address and place it in my router's DMZ, thus forwarding ALL ports to my Playstation 3? my roommate has an Xbox and plays on Xbox Live. Maybe for a minute or less, but there was never any obvious sign of disconnection, IE. my tray icon never says disconnected or limited connectivity. But there are signs of getting disconnected when I am either gaming or watching videos online. The video would buff a bit then get stucked, then loads after a few to 30 sec delay. When gaming, I would lag out or have everyone waiting for me to connect back (warcraft3, starcraft When I am downloading files, this does not ever happened, no matter how big the file size is. This problem started a few days ago. I tried restart the modem but I cannot possible do that every 15 mins. Another problem that could possibly be also be the same is that I am connected but cannot browse websites. If I am downloading anything, it will still keep download, i just can't browse or log on to online games.

I have tried resetting routers and modems, changing channels, moving the the position of my router for better signal. And yet still, inexplicably, my connection continues to be slow and choppy, and extremely unreliable. Greatly varying download speeds, and constant disconnecting. I have run out of things to try, short of calling in a technician. Is there ANYTHING I can try to do?

My problem is that my wireless connection is so slow and I am limited to single player only games, I get bored after awhile and would rather play some online games. While trying to update a patch for League of Legends I was getting a whopping 5-7 Kbps download rate. If I try playing an FPS such as Counter strike, or left 4 dead I can join the game fine, but then my ping skyrockets into the 500+ range.

They have a tiny motorola dsl router. Not sure on the model number as some of the numbers o the sticker have faded away. I hooked it up to my Netgear WGT624 v3 wireless router via the gygabyte 54mbps wireless pci card.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just had Comcast setup my internet and it is really fast. 30 down, 10 up, 40 ping, my connection to my computer (wireless) is very fast and my online gaming (wired) is not laggy at all.The problem lies with the connection dropping when I am online gaming. I connected directly to the modem and there's no problem at all. I connect to my Linksys EA3500 and once I start playing in an online game, I disconnect from Xbox Live and am dropped from the game... anywhere from right away until about 10-15 minutes into the game. This is the only time where my connection falters at all, otherwise it is great. But I play online a lot, and competitively, so I obviously need a stable connection.I have not had this issue with my previous ISP in New York, Time Warner and that connection was much worse. I'm thinking it must be a setting on the router that is causing this, but I can't pinpoint what. I tried automatic AND static connections from my xbox to the router. On the static connection, I even put a DMZ on it, but to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I got 8MB/1MB internet at home and so far I haven't been able to fix the problem I have: if I watch youtube and try to play pretty much any game that uses internet, i go from 70ms ping to 300ms++ instantly. Even if only two computers are on and both have the same game on, just opening a Google Chrome with one youtube tab on causes a HUGE ping. Two computers with youtube and CS 1.6 on shouldn't cause that.My setup is as following: old ZyXel ADSL-modem 660 series with one LAN port and web config (so it has settings to be modify) and a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT v23. All computers I use run either 32-bit Windows 7, Vista or XP. However, it doesn't matter which computers I use; I've tried this with more than 5 computers already. All cables have also been tested and changed.

Every other device I have (blu-ray player, work laptop, iPad, etc) goes online without any problem using the same router and network. I am running windows 7 and a linksys router that is a year old. Its a Dell Inspiron 1545. I was connected wirelessly but have a LAN connected now while I work this. Neither will connect to the Internet. For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: [URL]. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.

View 11 Replies View Relatedabout 4 weeks ago we started experiencing Packet Loss and High Pings while playing games. This affects our 2 PC's and our PlayStation 3 (Since we use them for gaming). We have contacted our ISP several times regarding the issue but each representative we have talked to has had different ideas of what the problem is. They replaced the modem twice which did nothing, so I then purchased 2 new Router's (DIR 601 N150 & DIR 835 N750+). Neither of them solved the issue. my ISP also says it isn't the Internet Cable that is causing the issue. My Download Speeds and Upload Speeds are right where they should be but the ping and the packet loss is the problem. I also contacted DLINK (Router Manufacturer) to see if they had and all we did was upgrade the firmware version and change the Wireless channels which also did nothing. I have plugged this PC into the modem with an Ethernet Cord and played games and all the issues were gone which leads me to believe that Modem and the ISP aren't the issue.
Things I've Tried:
-Resetting the Modem
-Testing each Wireless Channel on my Router
-Enabling and Disabling 802.11n and 802.11g on the router
-Changing the QoS settings
-Installing Software such as Gamebooster and Advanced System Care
-Disabling all Antivirus programs and Firewalls on the PC's
-Using a friends Modem instead of the Cogeco one

I am on BrightHouse cable internet and running a Netgear WGT624 v3 wireless router and WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK. Computer1 is the only computer on the network at present and is connected via CAT5 cable. No wireless computers here are turned on.If I enable wireless radio, my SpeedTest (www.speedtest.net) is consistently 2- to 3 Megs slower than when wireless is turned off. I have run this comparison over a dozen times spread out over about a 14 hour period.

Problem is that after the switch i immediately got around 100 KB lower transfer speeds no matter what source i use or kind of transfer i perform. If i earlier got for example 860KB/sec i now only gets 760KB/sec.I´ve set the modem/router up pretty much using the default values, are there any settings i could change to get a more efficient use of my bandwidth? I am using the provided network cable that came with the WAG320N, but i have also tested with other cat 5 cables. The file transfers are taking place using cable attached devices only.
