So i recently purchased a new laptop, Lenovo y580, came with win7 home premium, 8gbs ram. But i noticed the downloading speed is around 30-100kb/s, which i have no problem getting 1mb/s on any of my other computers. I'm using comcast and i really doubt its their service, I tried to upgrade my wireless router firmware, reinstalling the wireless adapter, and they didn't seems to work.
View 8 RepliesI just got a new Lenovo Ideapad y500 a few days ago, and the internet speed has been incredibly slow from the get-go. Loading images on pages takes way longer than it should, I can't watch streaming videos that last 4 minutes without it pausing to buffer every 5-10 seconds. It took about 20 minutes to download a 50mb file. My 4 year old laptop loads everything way faster, especially when downloading files. I did a ping test on both and everything was about the same, except I got a download speed of .75 mb/s on the new laptop, and between 12-17 mb/s on the old laptopI did a few ping tests, and this is what I got:Ping: 25 msDownload speed: .75 mbpsUpload speed: 4.10 mpbs.
And then I tried the same test with the laptop plugged directly in to the router with the ethernet cable and I got a ping of 20 + download speed of 25.12 mbps, and I tried loading a few youtube videos and they ran perfectly. Then I ran the test again over wifi, only this time I ran it sitting right next to the router. Still got download speeds of about 20 mbps. As soon as I got back to my room (which isn't that far from the router) the download speed dropped back to ~.80 and everything went back to loading slow again. The thing is, running the test from the exact same spot in my room on my old laptop, I still was able to get download speeds of around 18 mbps. My network card is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 and the router is Linksys WRT150N wireless-n.I've tried downloading the wireless drivers from Lenovo, and it didn't change anything. So those are up to date. There were no firmware updates available for the router on Linksys' site
I purchased a new laptop (wireless-n). However, the old laptop I have from 6 six years ago (wireless g) has a faster wireless connection than the new one (20-25 mbps vs. 0.50-1.00 mbps). The 2 computers are at the same location in the house in regards to the router.

my internet is being slow. It 'uplink' speed is 7mbps. when downloading or just surfing the internet 'task manager' says that the computer is using below 5% of the internet's speed capasity. it never gets higher than this, is there any way to change this so that i can us the full potential of the internets speed.

The laptop have a wireless card with G standart. On speed test makes 14 - 17 Mbps download, which is normal. When I try to download something on my PC maximum speed is 400 - 600 kbps, on speed test is 2 - 4 Mbps. When I connect my PC with cable to my router speed was 10MB/s (80 - 85 Mbps). I try to change channels on wireless network, but there is no change. I downloaded the latest drivers for this WLAN, but the speed is the same. I change the slot on the mainboard and to flash the firmware on my router, but there is no change.

I even went to an internet testing site to test the speed and got back a result of 17Mbps.Anyway, when I download a file, it's only downloading at 200KB/sec, and that's right after I tested the connection speed of 17Mbps. Although, from my provider, it should be possible to establish a connection at 25'000 kbit/s (download), max speed is at about 800 kbit/s. I'm only about 20 feet away from where the router is located and I don't use any phones (except for a cell phone). I read on this board, that I might have to change the wireless settings on the router and change the radio band but didn't manage to do so. I'm using Mac osx and a wireless connection.

It seems, that after many hours of downloading at full speed (only one torrent at a time) the speed goes down, and up again, and becoming unstable. My max download speed is 1.5 Mb/s, and it can drop from that, to 50 kb/s, and then up again. and i have no internet access when that happens, but it only last 10-20 seconds and then its back again. Sometimes i get that yellow warning sign on the taskbar which says "No Internet Access" but not always.
Seems like its happening after many hours of downloading at full speed. im on the latest firmware, have tried different channels, 20 Mhz only on Channel Width, different names on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels.. i use the 2.4Ghz channel btw. Otherwise its stable, and i have had no problems while gaming online.
I have a Netgear 600 dual band router connected to a DOCIS 3.0 cable modem with a 25mps internet connection from my ISP, should be fast right? When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

Whenever I attempt to download a steam game for example, it will start downloading and after 5-10 seconds the internet will drop out. The wireless connection is still maintained, but the internet is not available. It is fixed by cycling the router, however this is very painful as to download 100 mb of data, it may take 20-50 cycles.

However, I've discovered that I need a support contract to be able to update the software. We're now stuch with VPN software that doesn't work with Windows 8. This should have been up-to-date out of the box, yet we're being told that we have to pay extra for a support contract just to make it current. This is discusting! I recently purchased a new HP ENVY dv6 laptop which runs on Windows 8. I've noticed a significant drop in wireless speed on my network compared to my previous laptop, a Sony VAIO, which runs on Windows Vista. I don't believe that it is my network's problem; when I ran Speedtests on my two laptops, side-by-side, the VAIO had a greater download speed. Both computers are also fully updated, including the drivers; the VAIO laptop is four years old, and the HP ENVY dv6 just came out of the factory two weeks ago.

I just bought a brand new Linksys Cisco E3200 router. I set almost everything up in my house through the included software and went to port forward for some of my games. I realized I had something wrong with the ports and when I went back to access the ports through the web by typing in 192.168.1.1 which is the way I originally did the ports I could not. I then opened the software that came with the router and it could not detect the wireless network even though that is what I am using to type this now.

I am trying to download some stuff and the download speed drops below 10kb/s. The internet speed is very temperamental as it can be fine for a minute and then it will suddenly drop really low. If I disconnect from and reconnect to the network the speed will be high again then it will drop really low again. If I am connected via an ethernet cable the speed is fine and does not drop at all.My ISP is Orange, and I am using an Acer 8930G laptop. Some of my flat mates are experiencing this as well but some aren't. I was wondering whether or not it could just be a laptop thing or a router thing. The speed can drop that low that I can not even browse web pages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEarlier today Comcast came to our house and upgraded our internet from 12 MB/s to 22 mb/s speed.We have a larger house using wifi internet with 3 laptops (2 XP, 1 Win7).Our wifi has always slowed down speeds on the computers.Our laptops were generally getting 3-6 download speed via speedtest.net.Then when we plugged in directly we got full 12 mb/s.So we figured, hey lets upgrade our internet to get faster speeds around the house!Today we are doing speed tests with the new 22mb/s and only my dad's win-7 laptop is getting 21mb/s via wifi. Even when right next to the router the other 2 laptops only max out at 6mb/s and can not go any higher. When directly connected they get the full 22mb/s.
why is it that one computer gets full speed via wifi when the 2 XP computers do not? But as soon as i plug the cable into the router, the activity lights turn off like its not plugged in on the other end...which it is. So when going through the setup process, both using the cd and inputting the information on the web based setup. It does nothing, the automatic setup says the cable isnt plugged in. When using the browser setup i can click connect as many times as i want and it does nothing but say disconnected.
