Replacing Motorola Speedstream With Another Brand?
Jun 1, 2011
My brother's Speedstream has died. Lights don't work, etc. etc. He has ATT DSL in Detroit; Detroit does not have an internet wireless service, so he has to deal with ATT. He's po'd that he's paying $92 a month for service that doesn't work. I told him he needed a new DSL modem.

I fiddled with the configure screens using the admin/admin id/password and using the settings from the modem I was given from YAK I now have the SpeedStream 6250 working! If you enter in all the addresses into the various locations the modem will work. Even though it's the Bell interface"

I am trying to add my Hisense LED42T18GP to my home Siemans Gigaset SE568 WAN. The TV has two modes of setting up access to the Network Neighbourhood DHCP IP (AUTO) and Fix IP (Manual) I can't get either to connect and I suspect I have to change something on the Router.When I select auto setup I get "On: DHCP not ready!" when I set the fixed IP I get "On: Can't get any IP" The TV handbook is no goog, there are 3 things to be set 1) IP address but it does not say IP address of what - Router, Desktop computer or TV. 2) Network mask is no problem. 3) default gateway does not specipy if this should be the IP address of the Router, WAN or desktop computer. I have tried every combination of each and always get the same result. The router has Full internet Gateway Device IGD support enabled.

I had windstreams modem "speedstream 4200" but parents for whatever reason thought the 4300 would change everything. With the 4200 I was open for gaming, could connect. With this 4300 I can't connect to anyone at all. I disabled DHCP server in my rotuer and that aving more fails than succeeds. (in connecting to people).My router doesn't have bridge mode but my modem does, I don't know what it does in the modem. My friend had the exact same problem I did and he put his router in bridge mode which I do not.

I'm trying to hook up a Siemens Speedstream 4100 and a Linksys E2500. The internet works fine when I plug the modem directly into the computer. When I try to run it through the router, though, the router install appears to work right but I get a message saying that my internet connection might not be working. I power-cycled everything - unplugged all the cords and waited 20 minutes before restarting. It sounds like putting my modem in bridge mode might be the move? When I type in 192.168.0.1, I get a message that says "Server says: Linksys E2500." It also wants login information, and I'm not sure what that would be.

I had a new computer delivered today and it will only connect with the ethernet cable, not wirelessly. My housemate's computer still connects fine, my old computer connected fine, the trouble shooting option doesn't work. I'm using windows 7. The computer recognises the wireless strength as 'excellent' but simply informs me that it is unable to connect.

We just purchased a brand new ASA 5505 from EBuyer in the UK. This device only came with the AnyConnect 2.5 software, and actually old firmware too. However, I've discovered that I need a support contract to be able to update the software. We're now stuch with VPN software that doesn't work with Windows 8. This should have been up-to-date out of the box, yet we're being told that we have to pay extra for a support contract just to make it current. This is discusting! Am I missing something, or are other people experiencing the same? Is this a typical Cisco tactic to force people into purchasing support contracts?We paid over £700 for the firewal. I would expect it to have current software bundled with it.

So i recently purchased a new laptop, Lenovo y580, came with win7 home premium, 8gbs ram. But i noticed the downloading speed is around 30-100kb/s, which i have no problem getting 1mb/s on any of my other computers. I'm using comcast and i really doubt its their service, I tried to upgrade my wireless router firmware, reinstalling the wireless adapter, and they didn't seems to work.

I just bought a HP Pavilion h9. I enjoyed surfing and gaming for a few days when my wireless decided to disappear (when my brother was using it. He can't remember what he was doing when the problem occured)There seems to be nothing wrong with the router (an AirPort Extreme) since all the 4 of my households laptops can "see" and connect without problems.I've been trying to update my 802.11n WLAN card and other basic stuff, such as restoring to the day before the issue occurred.

Is it because a spectific folder needed for wired/local connection got lost, .... or Networking card inside got defective?

I just got a new Lenovo Ideapad y500 a few days ago, and the internet speed has been incredibly slow from the get-go. Loading images on pages takes way longer than it should, I can't watch streaming videos that last 4 minutes without it pausing to buffer every 5-10 seconds. It took about 20 minutes to download a 50mb file. My 4 year old laptop loads everything way faster, especially when downloading files. I did a ping test on both and everything was about the same, except I got a download speed of .75 mb/s on the new laptop, and between 12-17 mb/s on the old laptopI did a few ping tests, and this is what I got:Ping: 25 msDownload speed: .75 mbpsUpload speed: 4.10 mpbs.
And then I tried the same test with the laptop plugged directly in to the router with the ethernet cable and I got a ping of 20 + download speed of 25.12 mbps, and I tried loading a few youtube videos and they ran perfectly. Then I ran the test again over wifi, only this time I ran it sitting right next to the router. Still got download speeds of about 20 mbps. As soon as I got back to my room (which isn't that far from the router) the download speed dropped back to ~.80 and everything went back to loading slow again. The thing is, running the test from the exact same spot in my room on my old laptop, I still was able to get download speeds of around 18 mbps. My network card is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 and the router is Linksys WRT150N wireless-n.I've tried downloading the wireless drivers from Lenovo, and it didn't change anything. So those are up to date. There were no firmware updates available for the router on Linksys' site

I just bought a brand new Linksys Cisco E3200 router. I set almost everything up in my house through the included software and went to port forward for some of my games. I realized I had something wrong with the ports and when I went back to access the ports through the web by typing in 192.168.1.1 which is the way I originally did the ports I could not. I then opened the software that came with the router and it could not detect the wireless network even though that is what I am using to type this now.

But as soon as i plug the cable into the router, the activity lights turn off like its not plugged in on the other end...which it is. So when going through the setup process, both using the cd and inputting the information on the web based setup. It does nothing, the automatic setup says the cable isnt plugged in. When using the browser setup i can click connect as many times as i want and it does nothing but say disconnected.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with the very latest AE1000 driver (3.0.10.0). I have a Netgear WNDR3700 with dual band support. I replaced a D-Link DWA-556 PCIe 2.4 GHz card with this USB unit because I was seeing interference with my keyboard and mouse (Logitech Bluetooth). When the AE1000 works, I can consistently connect at 300 Mbps and the speed is great.Unfortunately, every so often, the connection to the internet drops and Windows 7 must do a wireless adapter reset in order to regain access to my network. During this time no other machines connected on the wireless network report any disruption and neither the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi profiles are connectable with the AE1000.I've tried switching from the built-in USB 2.0 ports on my motherboard to the USB 3.0 daughtercard to no avail. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. However, I started seeing this issue literally the day I installed this thing. The problem happens sometimes a few instances in an hour but then won't happen again for another few hours.In Event Viewer, I'm pretty consistently seeing:The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control. The reason specified was: 0x40030011 [Operating System: Network Connectivity (Planned)]

I saw some other mentions online of intermittent internet connectivity using the factory-installed Intel Centrino wireless-N 1030 card on various new Dell computers running Windows 7, but didn't see any resolution to the problem.
I can connect directly to my router via an ethernet cord, but trying to use the wireless card gives me intermittent connectivity. I will pretty quickly lose the ability to load a new page if I'm browsing with IE or Firefox, and can regain it (temporarily) by disconnecting/reconnecting or letting the wireless manager troubleshoot, during which it resets the wireless adaptor. Doing a continuous ping of my router gives me anywhere from 30-70% data loss and lengthy round trips (I am currently one foot away from the router). Other (ancient!) computers work fine on my router; I have updated the router's firmware/reset it many times, etc). I didn't specifically go download a new driver for the wireless card, but going into its properties and having it search for an updated driver results in it reporting it already has the most up-to-date driver.
I spent a lot of late nights talking to Dell support, and their eventual fix (after a complete reinstall from the factory setting partition) was to set up my home network as a WEP, which I'm not happy with due to it's poor security compared to WPA2/WPA. This appeared to resolve the connectivity issue (why??). But I feel like I should be able to use WPA2 security with a brand-new laptop. So I changed it back to WPA2/WPA and tried installing all the critical updates that Windows Update could find, including SP1, and then looked at some continuous pings of various webpages and of my router itself.
Then I noticed my ping round trip time was awesome and they were 100% successful while my computer was plugged in with the power cord, but this unfailingly changed to reporting unsuccessful pings and having 1000ms round trips as soon as I disconnect the power. Seems like the on-battery power settings are starving the wireless card?
Also, I'm sure my initial intermittent connectivity (before the complete OS reinstall) was still occurring while plugged in with the power cord, so I'm not sure if the reinstall fixed some aspect of the problem, or whether the appearance of success while plugged in now is just temporary. Perhaps my card is just bad and I need a new one? I'm using the factory default power settings and the factory-installed wireless card (and I couldn't choose a different wireless card when I built my laptop)

I have a brand new E4200 constantly losing internet connection (both wireless and wired). I have a ADSL connection to the internet, last router I had did not have the same issue. I also have a Cisco ASA 5505 for work connected to the ADSL modem and is not experiencing any disconnect issues. All computers connected to the router is losing internet connection, local lan keeps working. The internet connection gets back again after a 10-15 minutes or when resetting / turning off the router.
I have tried the following;
Changed ethernet cables
Disconnected the ASA 5505
Turned off wireless
Upgraded the firmware
Reseted to factory settings

We have about 70 AIR-1131AG-A-K9 APs that were installed about 5 years ago. The controller we use is a 4404 WLC, with software 4.1.171.0. This provides us our wireless network. We use Cisco switches as access, distribution, and core switches.
We have two guest networks, one for visiting physicians and another for patients and their guests. Each of these guest networks use a 4402 WLC as an anchor controller, with software 4.1.171.0. They use the same APs as our business network.
According to my understanding of the guest networks is that a tunnel (I don't know if it is encrypted or or encapsulated) is created between the APs/Guest WLAN to the anchor controllers, so this guest traffic is isolated from our business traffic. Futhermore, these guest controllers connect directly to our firewall, which only allows them access to the Internet, and not our Internal LAN.
Our Problem
=========================
Well, we've been having problems with our wireless system, specifcally with patient guest access. It has gotten bad enough that they are looking to replace the Cisco APs on the south side of the hospital. We've been told that "you can get better guest access at McDonalds" : ( . I think part of our problem is that our controller code is so very old and we are have a our patient guest network open and "restrict" the number of clients attached to it by limiting our DHCP scope. The biggest complaint we get regarding the patient/guest wireless is people saying "I can't connect to the wireless", which we almost always identify as an issue caused by us running our of DHCP leases (we have about 200). These DHCP lease are used quickly, by an devices that comes into range that is set to automatically connect to any network that is in range. A lot of our staff is connected to our patient guest network and don't even realize it.
We are interested in Meraki APs because they are magaged using a cloud controller (we won't have the added expense of another controller) and they seem really easy to manage. Our biggest concern regarding Mearki is security. They make use of NAT, a Layer 3 firewall, and LAN isolation (a firewall rule that only allows clients Internet access) in each AP as a means of isolating the guest traffic from the business traffic. Does this seem like a secure way to accomplish this or are the Layer 2 tunnels that Cisco and from what I've been told recently Aruba and Juniper make use of a more secure approach?
We've been working with a Meraki vendor, who also happens to sell Aruba and Juniper wireless networks. It seems like don't suggest Meraki if we are concerned with security. They said they are good for situations where you have many geographically seperated sites. They suggested we use Juniper and Aruba, specifically because they use Layer 2 tunnels and that they used technologies like clear air (APs self adjust channels and power, which Meraki claims to do too). I thought that, hey does Cisco that too, why wouldn't we just go with Cisco if those are your selling points for Juniper and Aruba?

I need to replace a failing AG241v2 and I am going to use a WAG160N.I problem is I notice there are two versions of WAG160N, v1 has a RJ45 port for the DSL and v2 a RJ11 port.AG241v2 has a RJ45 so the cable I was using was a Ethernet cable.Now this cable doesn't fit, of course it is bigger, I tried with a RJ11 cable but DSL light doesn't show up, it looks like it is not receiving any signal.Is there any adaptor or any cable to use WAG160Nv2 or should I replace it with a WAG160v1?
I found in several web stores when they talk about WAG160Nv1 they use the code WAG160N-E1 and for the WAG160N-v2 they use the code WAG160N-EW. Can they make it more difficult??
