Can't Remote Desktop In From IMac Into Windows Machine

Feb 9, 2012

I have a Win 7 machine with Win SBS 2011 in my office and an iMac. The Win machine is being setup for Exchange 2010. My problem is this: I can't Remote Desktop in from my iMac into the Win machine, but CAN when outside the network. The Win7 machine has a static IP, the iMac a dynamic. When I access the internal part of my router I can only see my iMac. I get a "can't connect to win-based machine" error when I try to Remote Connect. The only thing I can think is that using the same gateway is somehow messing things up? I've had two techs try to figure this out and they're both stumped.I was maybe thinking that since both comps are going out the same gateway that I should try anc configure the iMac to try and RDC on a different port, since maybe the iMac is listening on 3389 and sending the RDC back to itself?

Remote Desktop To Virtual Machine

Feb 7, 2012

I have a PC behind a DSL router. In my PC (WinXP SP3) I have a virtual machine also running WinXP SP3. I would like to access the VM via remote desktop. Since I have a dynamic IP, I use the(url)tool to solve the problem. I installed the no-ip sync tool in the VM. Now when I write my no-ip address in the remote desktop from my office, I will access my host system, and not the hosted VM. Does any knows how I should configure things in order to get access to the virtual machine and not to the host machine

Cisco Routers :: WRSV4400N / Remote Desktop Through Windows VPN?

Mar 24, 2013

We have a WRSV4400N installed as our primary NAT Firewall.  It is configured to allow Windows VPN connections to our server residing on the Internal Network Domain - this works fine.Problem is that even though the remote VPN client can open shares, browse the internal network, and resolve computer names fine with DNS,  but... Remote Desktop will not connect using the VPN tunnel. We need this to work... I spent several hours with your support people when installing this router a year ago and got nowhere.  And everythung else works fine.I am using Windows server-based VPN because your VPN Clint didn't work ata ll either. Can you perhaps give me a list of configuration settings to check?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Utilize RDP (Windows Remote Desktop) Between Two Points

Jun 10, 2013

I recently purchased (2) DIR-655 routers; one for home and one for the office. Both are connected to the 'net through CenturyLink DSL via a Zyxel 660 modem.I am switching from a Cisco/Linksys WRT54G home and a Trendnet TEW432BRP at the office. I wanted to get up to N and consolidate to a single hardware type. The 655 came highly recommended, and the price was right at $75.My goal is to utilize RDP (Windows Remote Desktop) between the two points and from other points inbound to either 655. The first hurdle was that the Xyxel modem, by default, blocks just about everything inbound with no hope of opening the ports. The only viable solution was to bridge the modem and allow the 655 to act as DHCP. Done. The modem now should not even have its own IP address, and should completely bypass all of the built-in firewalls, etc. As soon as I went into bridged and forwarded the ports in the router we were in business (though I still can't seem to log in to RDP, the ports are verified open).

Cisco VPN :: ASA5510 - Windows 7 Connects To It But Not Remote Desktop

Mar 15, 2010

we just got several laptops that came with Windows 7 Pro 32bit installed, and we have installed the VPN Client 5.0.06.0110.  The VPN client appears to connect to our ASA5510, but we are unable to connect to any machines on our network as it does on our XP machines.

Furthermore, we cannot ping any as well.  Also, while connected the Windows 7 machine is still able to access internet site as if split-tunneling was configured, which its not!  I've seen alot of people posting on the internet about the same issue, but I have not run into any resolutions that work.

Cisco Routers :: Windows RDP Remote Desktop Not Working With WRVS4400N

Nov 16, 2010

I use RDP extensively on my LAN to use and manage 4 PCs running Win XP or Win7. My consumer-grade Cisco Linksys WRT610n crapped out after less than 2 years, so I thought I'd try the Cisco WRVS4400N to gain extra features like VPN. I have not enabled anything new on the router except for adding a second wireless SSID for guest use, although no bandwidth management or VLANs have been set up yet. Firmware version is 2.0.0.8.Since installing this router I have been unable to use Windows RDP on ANY of my computers on the LAN, whether I use the machine name or the IP address. I can ping every device on my network - print servers, NAS boxes, PCs, but no RDP. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Severe % Dropped Packets On XP Machine When Windows 7 Machine On Network Not Switch

Aug 2, 2011

I have a strange error on my home network that I cannot find a solution to.I have an Huawei SmartAX MT882 from TalkTalk acting as a modem connected to a D-Link DSL-G624T acting as a router/switch. Connected to the D-Link I have a Windows 7 Pro machine (64-bit, SP1) and an XP (home i think) machine (sp 2 i think). The SmartAX modem is set up to perform DHCP and DNS relaying and the D-Link has DHCP turned off and DNS relay turned off.The Win7 machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet without problems, regardless as to the status of the XP machine. The XP machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet with no problems ONLY of the win7 is powered up. When the win7 machine is off, the XP machine seems to drop about 25% of the ping packets between it and the D-Link router and has no internet access (because of this i assume). [code]

Installed Network Printer On Windows 7 Machine / Now XP Machine Won't Print To It

Jul 20, 2011

New Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine. Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print.Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed. No error messages show up.I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it.Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install. On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.I need sorting this all out.Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately.

Cisco Routers :: Setup VPN Tunnel Between Linux Machine And RVS4000 At A Remote Site?

Jul 21, 2011

I'm trying to set up a VPN tunnel between a Linux machine and a RVS4000 at a remote site (served via satellite connection). After many efforts, I finally succeeded (based on Openswan). However, while PINGing is OK, big packets (from the RVS4000 LAN to the Linux box) arrive corrupted.

I lowered the WAN MTU, with no success. What finally did the trick is to lower the MTU at the RVS4000 LAN interface. Since this is not possible via the Web I/F, I did it via telnet ("ifconfig eth0 mtu 1400"). However, this change is lost after router reboot. How can I make the LAN MTU setting permanent?

Networking XP With Windows 7 Machine

May 4, 2012

I am trying to link a Windows 7 machine with a laptop running Windows XP. The workgroup on both computers is the same. On the Win7 machine, I have a couple of folders set to be shared. The first is the C Drive and the share name is C-drive. The second is Quickbooks that I have named Quickbooks. On the XP machine, I went to map network drive and in the blank typed \Remote1C-drive. It asked for username and password and just like that we were connected. But I can't see all of the files on this drive. I don't even see all of the folders - one of which is Quickbooks. So I tried \Remote1Quickbooks and Windows XP couldn't find that path even though I'm positive that folder is shared on Win7. So no matter what I try, I can't see this folder on the XP machine, I even tried copying this folder to other locations around the computer and setting up shares in hope that something would work, but it never did. So I went back to the C Drive share on the XP machine. I tried to go in reverse, creating a file and putting it on the root of the c drive (I did this on the XP machine, but the file should have actually been located on the Win7 machine. When I check Win7, the file didn't exist. So I tried the other way. I right clicked on the c drive in Win7 and created a new bitmap image file. Back to the XP laptop, that file doesn't show. But if I look at the c-drive on Win7 from the xp machine, I see several other folders and some of them like Program Files contains actual files. But some of them are just empty such as \Remote1C.

Windows XP Machine Not Visible On The Network?

Oct 8, 2012

My home network, consists of a bunch of Win 7 computers and 2 XP machines. One XP machine is a netbook, it's rarely on and presents no issues. Here's the problem I'm having with the other XP machine:-My Win XP PC does not show up in the list of networked computers on any of the other machines on my home network.-But I can still access the shared folders by going to start and typing in \computer name.Win 7 will open a folder containing all the shared folders and I have no problem accessing (and modifying) any of its contents.-I also can access the PC via a VNC client set up on another machine and even have ports properly configured to access it from out of the house-I use this PC as a server to stream music to my iPhone via subsonic. No problem here either-I can access all the other computers from the XP machine in question.Since I can still get to the files this wouldn't be a big deal, except:-I can't map a network drive to the XP machine from the other PCs and I need to-I have an HTPC computer whose software can't find this XP machine because it's not there

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't Connect A Windows 7 Machine To Internet

Mar 29, 2013

I have a DIR-655 B1 with FW 2.05.I have different computers/phones connected to internet via the router, both via wifi and ethernet. I have Linux/Windows 7/Android and iOS units. Two weeks ago one of my Windows 7 laptops did not connect to internet and I thought it was the computer. I did a lot of troubleshooting the computer, still did not work at home. When I brought the laptop to a friend it work directly. Now I started to think that it was the router that was the problem. On the status page I can see that the machine got an IP address in the "LAN Computers" part. I can confirm in the laptop that it received the same IP address via DHCP.

I have look around in the menus but can not find anything that should make this computer not connect. I can not even login to the router via this computer.
