Does the 1921/k9 supports trunking and VLANs (I think it should support 16 VLAN, but I am not shure) or I should choose 1921-SEC-k9? Routing performance is the same both on 1921/k9 and 1921-SEC-k9? (I think I'll use static routes or RIP, it is not a large network)

From cisco web portal, CAT 4500 should support PBR as below:"Policies can be based on IP address, port numbers, or protocols. For a simple policy, use any one of these descriptors; for a complicated policy, use all of them." url...
Does 3900 router has the same features on the PBR? if yes, can it support "source tcp port" and/or "destination TCP port"?
Do any of Linksys routers have the recently popular guest network access feature where you can create a password protected or no password secondary network that provides internet-only access to guests and prevents them from accessing your main network (computers, printers, HDDs etc?). Does Linksys's highest end WRT610N have a similar feature that works slightly differently but does the same thing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just picked up an e3000 last night. Set up was performed manually. Flashed to 1.0.04. No issues and I was up in under 10 min.Although I read the user guide, prior to purchase, I admit I did not expect that I would not be able to configure ALL of the router's features and functions from the web based configuration, without using the CISCO Connect CD.Parental Controls and GUEST Access cannot be configured unless you load the Cisco Connect software. While this is not a huge deal, this implementation is clumsy and cumbersome for advanced users. Honestly, I had no disire to install the Cisco Connect software. I was further disappointed to see that it stores the router's password.
My feeling here, let's not ruin a great thing. There are two types of users. One's who need a configuration wizard, and other's who don't. I guess some inroads are being made in the right direction as some GUEST access functions can be made in the web gui on the e4200. I hope this can be further expanded to all "e" series routers in the future. Overall, it works as advertised. Streaming 720p HD video over wireless 2.4Ghz band G only is flawless. This is no different than my wrt54g2, but I'm upgrading to a 1080p player and have read that N on the 5Ghz band is the way to go.
If I plug an 802.11ac USB WiFi adapter into a wireless router like an Apple Airport Extreme, can the wireless router use that WiFi adapter and then be be able to use the 802.11ac WiFi standard in addition to the WiFi standards it can already use?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the Linksys/Cisco router E4200. My question is setting up parental control features as specified in [URL] - specifically the blocking of sites based on certain keywords and/or blocking sites based on age groups (child/teen). I do not see this capability in my Cisco Connect software. Is this feature available for E4200 v1? If so, how can I obtain the software?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor a high end wireless router like the E4200, the parental control features are lacking. The other features and performance of the router are great, but why not provide outstanding router based parental controls? With the latest firmware (1.0.03) no new parental control features were made available. Currently, I can restrict by time, which is useful. I can also restrict 10 websites - which is not useful. I certainly don't want to maintain a list of the 10 most offending websites that I want to block. First of all, 10 is not even close to being enough. Second, and more important, there should be a way to subscribe to some service that automatically updates the list of blocked websites based on content. I would not mind paying for this service if the cost is reasonable. I know that there are software "solutions" for this, but my 6 year old easily found a way around this sort of solution. I have tried many with no success. The only real way to enforce parental controls in a home network is at the router. I would love to this feature available on this high end router. There are a few lower end wireless routers that offer this service, but the other feature set is poor. I want to have my cake and eat it too.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my internet coming from my DSL modem (of course) and running into my wireless router. Once it is in the router I can't get a connection, period. Not even through any of my router's ethernet ports. This wasn't the case until about 3 o'clock yesterday. If I unplug the cable from my wireless router and plug it directly into my computer it runs fine. If I run it through my Micro-Cell tower and into my computer it runs fine. But if I plug it into a router it won't work through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. I have tested the connections of all the ethernet cables I am using. Figuring it had to be a problem with my router (since it was working earlier and the connection only disappears when plugged into it) so I bought another, same problem. What else could it be? PS: I'm using both a MacBook Bro, a PC, a PS3, and a Nintendo 3DS and none get a signal from the wifi. I always keep the PC hardwired through the ethernet ports on the router and use the wireless for everything else
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor over a year there was no issue with the wireless router, then all of a sudden the connection was lost even though the signal was strong. When trying to figure out what was wrong, I accidentally reset the router. I had not used one before, so I am not too knowledgeable. The router had been my previous roommate's, who had set up the password, etc and I had been using it with that set-up, but now I had no password. I tried to reconfigure and set up a new password through the D-Link administrator, but could not get it to work. It is a D-Link DIR-655 and I am using an iMac. I finally just bought an Ethernet cable and plugged in directly, since I had no password protection. But even with the cable plugged in, I will lose the connection and have to restart the router to get it back - which has even happened while I am using the internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new router - Medialink wireless-N Broadband Router model: MWN-WAPR150N I had my PC plugged into the router as a direct connection so I can use my Macbook Pro laptop wirelessly. At first, after resetting the modem (Motorola Surfboard model: SB5101), PC was connected properly as internet was working and same for Macbook Pro. However, the PC connection lasted only for a couple of minutes, more or less before it went "dead". I had it diagnosised and repaired but it wouldn't repair the problem. Each time I reset the modem and router, PC connection was fine but again, "dead" after a couple of minutes. Also, I noticed that after Macbook Pro goes to sleep, when it wakes up, it wouldn't connected either and I had to restart it to get it connected. Macbook is the only one that didn't go "dead" after few minutes, only after going to sleep and waking up.Btw, I did reset the router but no luck in resolving the connection for PC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCan a wireless router be plugged into one of the ports on a wired router?I use a wired router and won't use wireless router because of security concerns. However, I am putting a PC in another part of my house. This PC will have limited types of usage - and security concerns will not be an issue for the type of use that machine will have.Running coax across the house will be difficult. My thought was to use a wireless setup for this one machine. But that would work only if I can plug a wireless Router it into a port on my wired router.
1) Can I plug a wireless router into a wired router?
2) If the answer is yes, will that compromise security on the wired ports because the wireless router is connected to it?
Router (wired) = Linksys BEFSR41; Router (wireless) would be "G"
I had to move to a remote area in which I can only use a 3G mobile internet connection. The 3G connection is working fine, that is until I plug in my Asus RT-N12 router in order to create a wireless home network between our computers (for file and printer sharing).
For me it seems like firefox is trying to connect to internet trough the router. But that is not possible, since the router has no internet. The only internet is from the 3G mobile internet stick.
How can I tell firefox, that it should look for internet in the 3G connection instead of the router?
Is there any way to access the USB storage I plugged into my router other than using an Internet browser? I was hoping to use it like any other drive on my system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a ASUS AC66 router plugged into my Comcast cable modem (regular dumb modem), it's running the Merlin (OEM-modified) firmware.I've got a Netgear 3400 router flashed with DD-WRT (latest build), it's a replacement for another N router that died on me.
Anyways, I went to set client bridge like always. Main router is 192.168.1.1 so I set DD-WRT router as 192.168.1.2, set the wireless modes to client bridge with matching SSIDs for my 2.4/5GHz radios, input the correct security keys on the security page (AES), then I put the router in router mode (from gateway) Basically, I followed the instructions on DD-WRT's website, which worked perfectly until the other router died.
This time around as soon as the DD-WRT router reboots with its bridge information saved it immediately causes some sort of conflict on my network and kills the internet and all network connections. All devices lose their IP address. It's like the DD-WRT router is somehow shutting down the network and my default router.
this router of my girlfriends only works when iplug the dsl modem into the output ports what could possibly cause this. would a firmware upgrade straighten it out...

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am doing a security assessment of an organization that uses 871/881 routers with the firewall features enabled. I see the following commands defining packet inspection done by the firewall software.
-ip inspect name inet-users tcp
-ip inspect name inet-users udp
-ip inspect name inet-users icmp
What I am trying to define is the inspect name "inet-users". It is obviously a constant defined by IOS as it is not defined anywhere in the configuration file like any other "variable" and does not generate an error. What does "inet-users" define? I'm assuming it is all users using the interface(s) where the inspect commands are used, but is that correct? The Cisco IOS manuals do not contain a reference to "inet-users" hence why I'm here asking.
We just replaced a floor swithc, and ended up going with an IOS-XE software, LMS does not seem to like this software, the device is not available in my Identity dashboard, it's abviously running dot1x.
LMS shows it as software version 03.02.01.SG, same as you get when you do a show version, license level is enterprise services.
Actual Image name: cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.02.01.SG.150-2.SG1.bin
Also, the IOS upgrade option does not work for this device, it give an error saying to perform an inventory collection, which I have manually performed, the device is reachable and manageable by LMS, and it does not show up in any of the IOS version reports.
