IBM Think Pad / Can't Connect To Internet Wireless Or Plugged In Router
Aug 26, 2011
i have a IBM Think Pad running window xp professional and i can't connect to the internet wireless or plugged in to the router. i have several computers and all can connect to my router.. when i plug in the IBM to the router the PC LINK light on the router turns off and there is no light on the ethernet cable i thought it may have been the cable but it works on the other computers.. I turned off and unplugged the router waited then tuned it back on i also did the same with the computer before connecting them together and still nothing.
I have my internet coming from my DSL modem (of course) and running into my wireless router. Once it is in the router I can't get a connection, period. Not even through any of my router's ethernet ports. This wasn't the case until about 3 o'clock yesterday. If I unplug the cable from my wireless router and plug it directly into my computer it runs fine. If I run it through my Micro-Cell tower and into my computer it runs fine. But if I plug it into a router it won't work through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. I have tested the connections of all the ethernet cables I am using. Figuring it had to be a problem with my router (since it was working earlier and the connection only disappears when plugged into it) so I bought another, same problem. What else could it be? PS: I'm using both a MacBook Bro, a PC, a PS3, and a Nintendo 3DS and none get a signal from the wifi. I always keep the PC hardwired through the ethernet ports on the router and use the wireless for everything else
My router is connected from modem to router to pc.It is a Linksys WRT160N.When it is plugged in that way, my pc doesn't have internet access but when i plug it from modem to pc it works.
I have a D-Link DIR-655 Router with a Motorola SB5101. When the computer is directly plugged into the modem i get 10Mpbs but when it is connected to the modem (either wireless or wired) the max speed is >3Mbps.
I had to move to a remote area in which I can only use a 3G mobile internet connection. The 3G connection is working fine, that is until I plug in my Asus RT-N12 router in order to create a wireless home network between our computers (for file and printer sharing).
For me it seems like firefox is trying to connect to internet trough the router. But that is not possible, since the router has no internet. The only internet is from the 3G mobile internet stick.
How can I tell firefox, that it should look for internet in the 3G connection instead of the router?
Is there any way to access the USB storage I plugged into my router other than using an Internet browser? I was hoping to use it like any other drive on my system.
I have 2 pc's this one is obviously hooked up to the net, the other one works fine, but when i try and plug it into the modem it tells me no internet connection even when i unplug this one and plug the other in.
I think our brand new Belkin router toasted itself after it automatically updated it's firmware. We've had it for three days the first two days we were downloading around 2MB/s, then last night it updated itself and since then it's been crawling around 100kb/s.
I've tried to plug the desktop right into the modem to see if it'd speed back up but it won't give it internet access this way. I've tried rebooting the modem after and before switching cables around but nothing will make it change.
Can a wireless router be plugged into one of the ports on a wired router?I use a wired router and won't use wireless router because of security concerns. However, I am putting a PC in another part of my house. This PC will have limited types of usage - and security concerns will not be an issue for the type of use that machine will have.Running coax across the house will be difficult. My thought was to use a wireless setup for this one machine. But that would work only if I can plug a wireless Router it into a port on my wired router.
1) Can I plug a wireless router into a wired router?
2) If the answer is yes, will that compromise security on the wired ports because the wireless router is connected to it?
Router (wired) = Linksys BEFSR41; Router (wireless) would be "G"
Is there a way that the desktop can get on the internet through the same aircard that is plugged into the laptop? Or will I have to purchase a cell phone card for the desktop too. At the moment both computers are routed thru a satellite modem which I want to get off of.

Just had my line upgraded to 50mbit down, and 10mbit up. Whenever the router is between the PC and the modem, my speeds drop to 30mbit. If i plug directly into the modem, I get the full 50Mbit. Upload speeds are always 10mbit.I've tried power cycling devices, and even replaced all cables with cat6 (which I know isn't the issue, but i'm just trying to eliminate everything)
If I plug an 802.11ac USB WiFi adapter into a wireless router like an Apple Airport Extreme, can the wireless router use that WiFi adapter and then be be able to use the 802.11ac WiFi standard in addition to the WiFi standards it can already use?
For over a year there was no issue with the wireless router, then all of a sudden the connection was lost even though the signal was strong. When trying to figure out what was wrong, I accidentally reset the router. I had not used one before, so I am not too knowledgeable. The router had been my previous roommate's, who had set up the password, etc and I had been using it with that set-up, but now I had no password. I tried to reconfigure and set up a new password through the D-Link administrator, but could not get it to work. It is a D-Link DIR-655 and I am using an iMac. I finally just bought an Ethernet cable and plugged in directly, since I had no password protection. But even with the cable plugged in, I will lose the connection and have to restart the router to get it back - which has even happened while I am using the internet.
I just bought a new router - Medialink wireless-N Broadband Router model: MWN-WAPR150N I had my PC plugged into the router as a direct connection so I can use my Macbook Pro laptop wirelessly. At first, after resetting the modem (Motorola Surfboard model: SB5101), PC was connected properly as internet was working and same for Macbook Pro. However, the PC connection lasted only for a couple of minutes, more or less before it went "dead". I had it diagnosised and repaired but it wouldn't repair the problem. Each time I reset the modem and router, PC connection was fine but again, "dead" after a couple of minutes. Also, I noticed that after Macbook Pro goes to sleep, when it wakes up, it wouldn't connected either and I had to restart it to get it connected. Macbook is the only one that didn't go "dead" after few minutes, only after going to sleep and waking up.Btw, I did reset the router but no luck in resolving the connection for PC.
I've got a ASUS AC66 router plugged into my Comcast cable modem (regular dumb modem), it's running the Merlin (OEM-modified) firmware.I've got a Netgear 3400 router flashed with DD-WRT (latest build), it's a replacement for another N router that died on me.
Anyways, I went to set client bridge like always. Main router is 192.168.1.1 so I set DD-WRT router as 192.168.1.2, set the wireless modes to client bridge with matching SSIDs for my 2.4/5GHz radios, input the correct security keys on the security page (AES), then I put the router in router mode (from gateway) Basically, I followed the instructions on DD-WRT's website, which worked perfectly until the other router died.
This time around as soon as the DD-WRT router reboots with its bridge information saved it immediately causes some sort of conflict on my network and kills the internet and all network connections. All devices lose their IP address. It's like the DD-WRT router is somehow shutting down the network and my default router.
I'm having some difficulties with the VLAN setup on the SG-200 and the WiFi access point. The access point (a TP-Link WA801N) is only able to access the internet when it is plugged into a port that is on the default VLAN (PVID 1). If I plug it into one of the other VLANs then any clients connected to the WiFi lose access to the internet and cannot access devices on the VLAN. I have previously used this setup with a first generation Cisco WAP4410N. [code]
this router of my girlfriends only works when iplug the dsl modem into the output ports what could possibly cause this. would a firmware upgrade straighten it out...
I have not been able to figure out the resolution. The basic premise is to have 3 inside vlan networks controlled by a 1900 series router. Then have that primary LAN router connect to the inside of my ASA5505 Basic, then go out to my ISP Gateway. I have tried hundreds of different static route configurations on my router and asa. I have tried equally as many NAT and PAT configurations, but nothing seems to work. I have even tried using all the commands (specific to my topography of course) on this weblink from cisco: url...
My laptops internet connection quality is inconsistent. I constantly have to disconnect and reconnect my LAN connection to speed things up or keep things going. Then one day I discovered that if I keep the computer plugged in, the internet works consistently and just fine, but ONLY if I do this
I have been using a Dell N5110 laptop with a wireless router from my internet provider for years without issues.I recently had the internet connected at my cottage. I am using a TP-Link router model TL-WR740N.All of my wireless devices function perfectly except my laptop.
I have a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller WCL2112 model. It's currently plugged into an HP Procurve switch on a trunk port. That HP switch is plugged into my Cisco stack on a trunk port. I can reach the WCL just fine through the LAN. But when I plug the WCL directly into the Cisco stack on a trunk port, I can't reach the WCL at all, unless I connect to it over wireless. The interface shows it's conneccted and up/up. But no communications are sent across the line. I did a wireshark and can see only ARP request from the WCL. The trunk port on the stack is set to:
The internet at my parents house has recently gone on the fritz..the wireless router is a N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400..The computers of the house are able to connect to it..But it does not allow internet connections..The 3 computers are an HP Laptop running windows 7.a Dell Dimension E521 Running windows 7 & and an older HP Walmart special running XP.They can connect to outside systems and through a wired connection to the Modem from Cable vision. They replaced the wireless router and the problem continues.Internet is capable by plugging directly into the Cable vision router, unfortunately do not have the cables to try through the Netgear router to test that out..
I have a TP-Link WA500G, routers are not allowed but other people have from eighbouring flats have set them up as I can see at least 3 now.I have set up a password and selected it to be a Wireless AP.Each room has it's own ethernet socket and that socket has a unique IP, Like 141.163.180.XXXDo I have to enter the IP that it is plugged into into any of the fields like gateway or in the DHCP settings
I'm at my brothers house for a few months and trying to get my laptop connected wirelessly to his network. They have multiple computers and their laptops all are able to connect wirelessly. My laptop is able to connect via cable. It also gets a local connection wirelessly, just won't connect to the internet so I'm assuming it's a setting on my computer. It's a Linksys E3000 router. I have an HP G60-235DX laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I just got a used wireless router (didn't get any cords yet). I have an old wired modem that connects to my pc to give me internet. It uses a cable (not ethernet cord) that plugs into the wall. My wireless modem is a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router model number WRT54GS and for the internet connection uses ethernet. How can i connect the wireless router to the internet so i have a wireless connection? I tried plugging the ethernet cord into my modem and the other side into the internet port in the router, but it didn't work.
My laptop and desktop connect to the router and they can see eachother and everything but the router won't connect the computers to the internet. When I try to open a webpage in the inter net it says its a DNS error but I don't know. When i connect a computer directly to the modem it works though. They are both HP with Windows Vista.
I want to replace my old DIR-615 v4 d-link router with my new WRT160N v3 linksys router. The thing that I did was I simply disconnected my old one and plugged in my WRT, my Laptop detects it but it wont connect to the internet. Also I'd like to use my old wifi username and password on my new router so I dont confuse all my other family members with the new router.
