Having a connection problem with Dell Laptop. Can connect to CenturyLink (ISP) provided DSL Modem/router but No internet Access. Other wireless laptop at home and (2) iPads work just fine on internet using same router.
View 11 RepliesI recently purchased a new Dlink DIR-655 router. My motivation was a router with a USB port. I initially purchased a DIR-632. I have 1 desktop without a wireless card so it connects to router thru ethernet cable. I have 2 personal laptops with wireless cards and 1 work computer also with wireless card. With the DIR-632 all computers would connect to router, but my work computer (Dell) would connect but then intermittenly show no internet connection. All other computers had no issues connecting to internet ( wired and wireless) The Dell would connect and have internet connection if I used a wired connection. After talking to DLink Tech support they said that i had an issue with the Dell. I called Dell and they walked me thru several things. Nothing worked. They ultimately sent in a tech who replaced wireless adapter and did a diagnosis before leaving and the Dell was deemed to be in perfect working order. I tried connecting again after Dell's repairs and same issue. DlinK Tech support then said the issue was with router and suggested replacing router. Went back to place of purchase and obtained the DIR-655. Got home and exactly the same issue. Again on the horn with Tech support and issue was determined to be bad router. Went back to place of purchase and got another DIR-655. Got home tried new router same issue. Spent in excess of 4 hrs on the phone with level 3 tech support. We tried many, many possible fixes and it appeared as if we had the problem fixed, but within a hour of hanging up with tech support the issue was unchanged.
As the Dell is a work computer I use it a multiple locations, some with no issues connecting wirelessly and one location the same issue as at my home (interestingly enough this location uses a DIR-655). At this 1 work location it says I'm connected, it says there is internet access, but I cannot do anything on the internet.(I can connect without issue with an ethernet connection) At my home location I can connect to the DIR-655 wirelessly, it initially shows internet access and I might be able to access a single webpage, but then it states no internet connection, but it is still connected to the DIR-655.
My initial DIR-615 and the Dell works perfectly fine. However that defeats the purpose of me buying the DIR-655. Ideally I want only the DIR-655 with all computers connecting thru it.
The ISP is a satellite connection. The modem is a Hughes HN9000. By spending 4 hours online with tech support we have changed the channel used, specified specific DNS locations, IP addresses, renewed DHCP, you name we have probably tried it.
The Dell for some reason just does not like the DIR-655, as it connects to the DIR-615 and 1 other work location router, but it will not connect at my home or other work locations (both DIR-655 routers).
Running an asus WL-520gu router with flashed with DD-WRT. Just got a new DSL modem and now I can connect to the router, but have no internet connection. I've tried turning everything off, deleting network profiles and here is my ipconfig info below. Also i've pinged yahoo and it says "'DNS request time out was 2 seconds". I've tried resetting the router many times, but still nothing.[CODE]

I spent hours with my tech guy setting up the router so that I was getting excellent internet speed and the connection between my computer and my nas was maximized. In the process of setting up the router my laptop (Windows 7) and the basement laptop (Vista) were set up to access the router. Both work perfectly.These are now the only two devices in the house that can get internet access.The other devices that should connect are:
-2 Laptops (both Vista)
-1 iPhone 4
-2 iPhone 3gs
-1 Printer
I can't get them to connect. I spent an hour with a guy at Cisco tonight who just couldn't seem to get past the idea that it was not the laptop that was the problem.
I'm using a SMC2804WBRP-G router connected to my ADSL-modem. Usually there are two computers connected to this router: a win7 ultimate desktop(wired) and a macbook air (wireless). Both working absolutely fine and never caused any connection drops as far as I know.
A new room mate moved in last month and each time she starts up her win7 home laptop the router looses the internet connection. The laptop is on a wired connection.
The first time she connected to my router, the connection dropped every 2 mins. To find out whats wrong with her machine I disabled all unnecessary services etc. besides the anti virus software. That worked to eliminate almost all of those periodic connection drops. But the start up drop remained and I've got the feeling that the router is still loosing connection from time to time.
I have had a problem with my WRT400N wireless Linksys router. Whenever my router restarts or if the DHCP lease expires, I'm unable to connect to internet. During this time I can access the router, but not the internet. Oddly something that seems to "fix" this is if I use my nintendo wii to access my wireless internet at that time, all computers on my network are able to access the internet. However this is annoying to do since this happens once a day from DHCP lease expiring. Using any other computer to attempt to access the internet at this time would be unable to get a connection until I do the "fix" with the Wii. WRT400N

For some reason on my wireless laptop I can only connect to the internet by the Guest connection. When I connect to the regular router SSID I get local only access, no internet.

I use an iMac, a Notebook with Windows 7 and a Netbook with Ubuntu 11.04, besides different devices (iPhone, iPod, PS3, Kindle). Although when I configured the router I connected every devices simultaneasly, with better signal quality than before, after using it for a couple of days I found that it disconnects itself, I can't access internet, and my only solution it's to switch it off and on.
Have an Inspiron 1150 laptop & have excellent wireless connection. Can receive email but IE will not connect. It connected fine in the past but I upgraded files and now it will not. I went to IE 8 but managed to remove it back to IE 6 but still no connection.

Yesterday I uninstalled spyware doctor because it wasn't allowing me to play some games I had bought, as soon as I did this my internet was broken, I have been unable to load any websites, it shows that i have internet connection but it doesn't allow me to connect.I then replaced spyware doctor with Microsoft security essentials and it still won't connect to the internet, however my games work now.

When I tell the tv to connect to the internet it turns off the receive, send and online lights on my Motorola SBG900 router. Sometimes,however it does connect, but this happens very rarely. I checked to see if it was a problem with the firewall settings but we have the firewall switched off in the router. Despite the fact that it shows an active wireless internet connection, I cannot get web pages to open. I have tried both IE and Firefox with no luck. I have tried many different websites including microsoft, msn, google and yahoo and none have connected. Other devices connected to the same wireless network include a laptop running XP, a MacBook pro, an iPhone, an iPad, and several android smart phones and all have been functioning without issue. An XP desktop is also connected to the router with an ethernet cable with no issues. This laptop is the only device running Windows 7.
When I run the windows network diagnostics tool I get the message "Problem found The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". I have tried most of the recommended actions associated with the linkI have successfully pinged www.google.com and www.yahoo.com. I have pretty much the EXACT same issue. Revo 3700, Sky Unlimited Broadband, and a bunch of laptops and phones that can connect to the internet anywhere in the house without a probleI had the Revo connect all day last Friday (for the first time), prior to that it had connected a hand full of times, but only a very slow connection. For the last 4 days it hasn't connected at all, but says the signal strenth is 4 or 5 bars. I'm typing this from right next to the Revo on my laptop without any issue.
