Cisco :: 3550 Catalyst Not Displaying Fa Ports In Voice VLAN?
Sep 13, 2011Why aren't the fa ports that i assign to a voice vlan showing up when i issue show vlan?
View 2 RepliesWhy aren't the fa ports that i assign to a voice vlan showing up when i issue show vlan?
View 2 RepliesI have two 1252s on ports 1 and 2 off a Catalyst 3550. No other device on the switch except the fiber uplink.
Initially 1252 #2 (on port 2) resets for no reason at no specific time. We did not have a problem with 1252 #1.
The show ver on #2 does indicate that equipment resets due to power. I figured the 3550 is having problems powering two 1252s so had this AP on PWRINJ4 (validated its not drawing power via show power inline).
Today, #2 does not reset. However, now #1, which is the only device using inline power is now resetting. Same thing, reset due to power. Same weird behavior, at no particular time.
I've also have "no cdp enable" out off each port as i understand CDP sometime cause device to not boot up (15w versus 15.4w issue).
Both AP btw are Standalone IOS.
How can I configure Cisco 200 (SG200-08P) to learn Voice VLAN and CoS/DSCP from upstreamCatalyst 2960?
The Cat 2960 is today used together with LLDP-MED to announce config to Aastra IP Telephones. In some cases I need to use a small switch inbetween and plan to use the Cisco SG200-08P for this. However, I would like to avoid manual config of the Cisco 200 switch.
I am trying to write an extended ACL for the voice vlan.My scenario is the following:I have two PBXs with two Catalyst 4505 L3 switches. The C4505 are connected trough a trunk link.I have a VTP domain configured.
Voice VLANs are Vlan 100 and Vlan 101 with networks 10.2.0.0/16 and 10.4.0.0/16 Voip telephones are communicating between them self and everything is working fine.I want to secure both voice VLANs with an ACL to allow only couple of IPs to administer the phones. The PCs are connected trough a integrated switch via VOIP telephone. Here is the sample configuration of the dhcp pool for the PC VLAN:
ip dhcp pool PCs
network 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0
default-router 10.1.1.1
dns-server 10.10.10.1
option 43 hex 010a.5369.656d.656e.7300.0000.0204.0000.0064.0000.0000.00ff
I had to implement the 43 hex option because the PCs did not get the ip from the DHCP because of the vendor specific information. The thing that worries me is will the DHCP forward the ACKs for the PCs if I implement this test ACL:
ip access-list extended VLAN100
permit ip 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 192.168.2.0 0.0.0.255 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 192.168.2.0 0.0.0.255 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit udp host 0.0.0.0 eq bootpc host 255.255.255.255 eq bootps (this I am not sure do I need)
permit udp host 255.255.255.255 eq bootps host 0.0.0.0 eq bootpc (also this)
deny ip any any
I only want to allow the network 192.168.2.0/24 and maybe some other hosts to access the web based http gui to adiminister the IP phones. All PCs are connected trough the VOIP terminals. I do not want to deny the traffic to PCs.
I am attempting to create a mass upgrade server for some of our more standardized equipment since our vender cannot upgrade them pre-shipping for us, we've got to do them on our own. This means using a terribly organized wizard written in what appears to be Java...
I have an aversion to Windows and felt that I could accomplish the same thing using expect scripts and a Gentoo Linux server; now all I need is to set my Cisco 3550 (c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE6.bin) to have each port on it's own VLAN, except for fa0/1 which will be a trunk port to communicate with all ports as well as the server.

I have a Cisco 6509 with IOS "s222-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF16.bin"I need to enable dot1x on user's ports on the switch. each user is connected to the switch through the IP phone.
I just found out that I can not enabled dot1x on trunk port. I have tried to use "switchport voice vlan " but I got:
Switch(config-if)#switchport voice vlan 123
Command rejected: Gi7/20 is Dot1x enabled port.
let me know what should I do to get dot1x working?
Note: I have connected a laptop directly to the port and dot1x is working fine.
Does Catalyst 3550 switch support inter vlan routing ?
View 12 Replies View RelatedWe're looking at implementing a new phone system which will use voice over ip. Currently we have a mixture of Cisco 3750 and Cisco 3550 switches which don't support power over ethernet. Its been suggested we could continue using the current switches and power the new phones using power adapters.
Int terms of implementing qos (we don't have any at the moment) for the voice will a Cisco 3550 be OK and will having a mixture of different models using 3550 and 3750 pose any challenges with the qos policy for the voice. I believe there are differences in that the Cisco 3550 doesn't support srr-queues but having little experience with qos I'm not sure what impact this will have if any?
I am facing Voice Quality issue in Cisco Ip phone. However I don’t have any issue while calling between extension in the same Site. I am facing voice quality issue while traffic flowing through the MPLS over GRE tunnel. Its working fine If I am removing the mls Qos in Cisco 3550 Interface.

We are trying to config vlan 10 for data and vlan 20 for voice on the same port - port 1 of swtich SF300-24P to run both data and voice on different vlans.Do I have to add vlan 10 as an untagged vlan to port 1 and add vlan 20 as an tagged vlan to port 1?If I do not want to assign the native vlan 1 to port 1, how can I remove it ? The GUI page - assign VLAN to port does not allow to remove it.Aslo, what mode shall I set up on port 1? General, trunk or access ?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have set up 2 DHCP pools and 2 VLANs (1 *the native* for data / 1 VLAN for voice). When I use the command "switchport voice vlan 20" the port disapear from the show vlan brief list. When I use the "switchport access vlan 20" it shows up in the show vlan brief in the correct VLAN and gives the phone an IP. I assume that using the access instead of the voice is wrong and the phones would not configure correctly. But when I use the access the phone goes to the next step and tells me the TFTP files are not found. Why does the port disapear from the VLAN list?

How is it possible? Make it like a 2 port mini switch. Or make a bridge of these 2 interfaces without any complicated reconfiguration needed?
confirm whether the Catalyst 3550 with IOS Rel. 12.2(44)SE is compliant with POE IEEE 802.3af? I see some conflicting informaiton on Cisco's web site. Before Release 12.1(22)EA2, Catalyst 3550 PoE-capable switches (without intelligent power management support) caused high-power powered devices that supported intelligent power management to operate in low-power mode. Devices in low-power mode are not fully functional.
IEEE 802.3af—The major features of this standard are powered-device discovery, power administration, disconnect detection, and optional powered-device power classification. For more information, see the standard.
I have a customer who is going to host a VOICE services like providing SIP services to its customers. What specific ports required to be opened up for this on ASA 5515X. I would rate it ASAP.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI live in a condo building that uses 3 Cisco Catalyst 3550 switches connected to a Comcast router with 100 Mbps download. Currently we regulate bandwidth by providing each user with 3 Mbps download. Even if only two people are active they still only get 3 Mbps download. I would like to set it up so if two people are using they each get 50 Mbps; a sort of 'dynamic qos. Is this possible with these switches? Would we have to purchase a Cisco router in order to provide this feature?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can assign IP addresses to any of the 24 FastEthernet ports (it is a 24 port switch!). However, I have fitted the WS-G5482 Gigabit adaptor to give me Gig ethernet capability. It does not seem to be possible to assign an IP address to the adaptor.I realise that as it is an 'add on module' (well, a plug in module) this is different to the 24 port in the 'body' of the switch. I also have read that these Gig adaptors will only connect to other Gig adaptors (I found that out by trial and error, and then confirmed it by searching here).it's not possible to assign an IP addy to one of the plug in modules; it is not a big deal but I am planning to assign some IP addresses for remote management etc. I was going to use the Gig port for this but it may not be possible.
AH PS I am using the switch and connecting to the internet via the Gig adaptor, then out from one of the fastethernet ports to another little switch and then on to a router and out to the internet, so the switch and the plug in module are working fine.
correlates the older IOS format naming compared with the newer? I have an older catalyst 3550 that might need an IOS upgrade due to us starting to implement dot1x. The reason that I say this is that some of the commands in the dot1x config guide, such as aaa accounting dot1x, are not valid on this platform. The current IOS is c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-8.EA1c but the newer format is the ipbase, ipservices, etc. format. There is a newer ios but how do I convert from one to the other? I think I need to research the IOS to see if the new commands are there as well as I want to make sure there are no gotchas from a hardware standpoint if I upgrade.

I have a catalyst 3550 and will be using it to run my cisco 7940 and 7960 ip phones with POE. When I plug the phones into the switch they power up just fine but the phones will not dial out as they have little x's by the line. I have also tried going through the set up of the 3550 but get stuck in one place. When I go to the 10.0.0.0, the screen will not allow me to enter the telnet page or allow me to enter any information. In the manual it shows a pic of what the screen should look like when I go to 10.0.0.1, but I am getting an entirely different page.
What I need to do to get everything set up correctly?
I'm planning to separate voice and data traffic with two vlans. I have a COR switch catalyst 3750, a UC560 for VOIP with SIP trunk and SGE2000P as access switches. The thing is i had configured VLAN1 (data vlan) and VLAN8 (voice vlan), i've created the vlan 8 in the database on 3750 and let pass those vlans through a TRUNK port. In the SGE2000P configuration i've created the VLAN8 and the the ports as trunk for letting pass the two vlans for the PC and the IP phone. This works but some phones aren't registering, and for example i've unplugged a register phone and plug and doesn't registering anymore.
View 0 Replies View RelatedWe are about to install a new VoIP system (Allworx, which I did not select) and need to set up a new VLAN with QOS quickly for my SG 300 and SG 200 switches. I have the default VLAN1 at 10.0.0.0/24 and will be setting up VLAN10 at 10.1.0.0/24 for voice. There are a few other VLANS on the switches as well. I really don’t get the particulars of using a Voice VLAN vs. Smartport, but is one better than the other for this and what would be some good default settings to start with. I have command line and VLAN experience; I just haven’t set up a VLAN for voice from scratch.

Is there a way to configure a switch (3550, 3560,3750) to disable a switch port if it has not been used for a specified time period such as weeks or months. Say you want the switch to disable switch ports that have been "abandoned".
