Cisco :: 3750 - DHCP Server Configuration

Aug 16, 2011

I have a WCS that I use to manage 8 controllers (2 WiSM's totaling 4 controllers, and 4 more controllers at remote locations). All controllers connect to 3750 switches. The layer three interfaces for all V LAN's that are related to the wireless network are created on these switches. Each layer three interface has a helper address that points the devices in the sub net to the correct DHCP server.

When a wireless device requests a DHCP request I believe it gets to that server based on the relay from the layer three interface on the 3750. However, I know that the virtual interface on the controller is also requesting an address because my firewall is flooded with deny statements. The virtual interface is configured for 1.1.1.1 and so it gets blocked. I am starting to question the use of this interface considering the fact that it is getting blocked and the clients are still getting address.

Are both interfaces trying to act as DHCP relays? Could I setup the controllers to be the only relay (without using the virtual interface)?

DHCP Configuration Server Settings?

Oct 24, 2012

I recently reset my Quidway WA1003A modem from Huawei and ever since, the radio button for the server settings under DHCP configuration is at OFF whenever I start up my computer. So if I try accessing the internet via wi-fi on my phone, I'll have to manually change the radio button by opening up 192.168.1.1 through the browser on my computer each time. I never faced this issue prior to the reset. It used to somehow always be saved as ON.

3750 - Craft Helper Addresses So DHCP Requests Go To Proper Server

Dec 15, 2012

Setting up a stand-alone WDS/PXE server.Current we have helper addresses setup to forward the DHCP requests from the different VLAN's to the DHCP server. The WDS/PXE server we are setting up is on its server. How do we craft the helper addresses so DHCP requests go to the proper server hosting DHCP and PXE requests go the WDS server?

Everything I seen on Microsoft Technet, lists using Helper Address as the recommended way, but assume both services are on the same server. Our helper address is as follows on each VLAN interface in router: ip helper-address X.X.X..This is a Cisco 3750.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 2960 / VLAN Configuration Using MS DHCP Server

Jan 28, 2013

I am going to creat VLANs very 1st time therefore for test purpose I have following simple scnerio.I have created 2 VLANs , VLAN2 and VLAN3 on Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. Ports 1-12 is assigned to VLAN2 and Ports 13-24 are assiged to VLAN3. Now I have configured DHCP on Microsoft Server 2003 defining 2 scopes with following configurations.

Scope 1 for VLAN 2--- Range is 172.16.0.17 to 172.16.0.30   with subnet mask=255.255.255.240 . Server IP address 172.16.0.17
( Note: Address 172.16.0.17 is excluded from dhcp server Scope 1 and give to the MS server itself)
 Scope 2 for VLAN 3----Range is  172.16.0.33 to 172.16.0.46 with subnet mask=255.255.255.240 .

Now in Cisco 2960 series switches, under Vlan 2 and Vlan 3, I have following configurations...

interface Vlan2
ip address 172.16.0.30 255.255.255.240
ip helper-address 172.16.0.17
 interface Vlan3
ip address 172.16.0.46 255.255.255.240
ip helper-address 172.16.0.17

Now the problem is when i connect a client computer to any port from 1-12, It gets correct IP address from Scope 1 but when I connect a computer to any port from 13-24, it does not get the ip address.

Further I want to do inter VLAN comunication as well for that purpose i Have an  ISR 2900 series router. What further configuration i will have to do on router for inter vlan communication.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 Switch - Clear IP DHCP Conflict / Binding

May 10, 2013

I configured an DHCP server on cisco 3750 switch . Wher in w3750 gets connected to plain l2 switch 2960 on floor  and machine gets connected to 2960 port. [code] Below is the description of problem:

-> The Cisco 3750 switch is the DHCP server. VLAN 108 is named as internet vlan.

-> Ports in Cisco 2960 switch has been configured with "switchport access vlan 108".

-> There were no problems at all and everything had been working smoothly.

-> 3 days back, users started complaining that they couldn't access the internet. Up on troubleshooting the issue, I found out that there was an issue with the DHCP server as the computer couldn't get any IP address at all. After setting static IP address, the internet started working again.

If I bind IP to MAc address reservation on core 3750 switch for some time of moment it works but after that machine gets unreachable .I restarted the 3750 switch and also all the 2960 switches over the weekend, however, the issue still hasn't been resolved yet. I did issue the command "clear ip dhcp conflict *", clear ip dhcp binding * but no joy at all.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC Integrated 3750 Upgrade DHCP Failure

1. Is it OK to upgrade to SWLC3750K9-5-2-193-0.aes ? or do I need to go through 4.2 first ?
2. Will that code upgrade the bootloader at the same time?
3. How can I make sure there is enough flash space on the WLC?
4. Are there any special considerations to plan/prepare for?

The DHCP issue is failure of associated clients to get an IP address with this message found in WLC debugging:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Not Handing Out DHCP Addresses

Nov 2, 2011

Had a problem with a 3750 this morning not handing out DHCP addresses.  The following is a sanitized config of what the switch is using. [code] The IOS installed on the switch is c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin.  What got my attention was that the sh ip dhcp pool PC showed 180 addresses being excluded.  In doing the math from the dhcp excluded addresses, only 64 should be excluded.

My next step was to remove the second dhcp excluded-address line above.  Doing a clear ip dhcp binding * started letting the DHCP service hand out addresses but the sh ip dhcp pool PC stil showed 180 addresses excluded.

It finally took removing the dhcp pool and putting it back in to drop the number of excluded addresses down to a value that matches the first excluded-address line.  Didnt see a dhcp bug in the bug database that would explain this.

I tried re-entering the second excluded-address line from above and saw the number of excluded addresses rise as expected.  When I negated the line, the number of excluded addresses dropped back to its previous value.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding A New DHCP Scope To 3750 Stack

Apr 2, 2012

The company I work for owns a remote manufacturing facility that houses a stack of five 3750 switches that function as the core switching system for the plant.  DHCP services are configured on the 3750 stack.

There are currently three VLANs configured, one for data and one for voice (144 and 244 respectively) and one for UCM servers (200), with corresponding subnets of 10.44.32.0 /19, 10.44.0.0 /19 and 10.44.100.0 /24.

The current DHCP scope configurations are as follows:

ip dhcp pool Plant-44_DHCP
network 10.44.32.0 255.255.224.0
default-router 10.44.33.254

[Code].....

My question is will the addition of this scope in the manner presented cause any problems with PCs or IP phones outside the targeted recepents receiving the wrong IP information from this scope?

I plan to identify the users that should be members of this VLAN 444 and change the switchport mode access configuration on the corresponding switch ports from VLAN 144 to VLAN 444.  The voice VLAN 244 will remain the same.

Cisco :: QOS Configuration On 3750 L3 Switches?

May 28, 2012

We have PC's that connect through the Siemens IP phones and back to the cisco 3750 which is connected to our core 6500 via L3. The phones use a voice VLAN and the PC's use another VLAN. The whole setup seems to work ok but I was just wondering if the QOS was configured correctly. Our current config on our 3750 switches are mls qos trust dscp on the port that connects to the phone and PC and mls qos trust dscp on the L3 links. The phones are configured for "QOS L2/L3"From the reading I've done so far it seems that any ports connected to a L2 device should be set to cos and not dscp?

Cisco WAN :: 3750 ME Configuration With ES Ports?

Cisco :: 3750 / Configuration Archive Job Times Out (LMS 4.0)?

Oct 13, 2011

I've inherited a server running Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 to manage our plethora of switches. Running 'Configuration > Configuration Archive > Synchronization' against a Catalyst 3750 switch called switch1 successfully retrieved the Running, Startup, and VLAN configs.Running the same command the following day on switch1 failed and returned this in the job execution result:Unable to get results of job execution for device. Retry the job after increasing the job result wait time using the option:Admin > Collection Settings > Config > Config Job Timeout Settings I modified the job result wait time setting to be 600 seconds, tried again and received the same timeout failure. I have also seen this same Failed message on other devices, but have never actually received the configs for them, so I feel switch1 is a better place to start. What are the first things I should check in CiscoWorks for a problem like this? Is there a particular software revision I should be on with LMS 4.0? What timeout value should be used for Archive Synchronization?

The problem appear when I cut the connection to ISE server. Accourding to configuration the switch authorize the new device to VLAN 11 (critical VLAN) That is fine ! When the ISE server is up again I had a configuration which should reauthorize all ports assign in critical VLAN. But why that is not happend ??? 1. each fastethernet port has this option: "no cdp enabled" this entry was no availble on the old switch, is the any possiblity to remove this entry?

2. the same for "no mls qos rewrite ip dscp"

3 and for this one "vlan internal allocation policy ascending"

Cisco WAN :: QoS Configuration For 3750 Switch WAN Port?

We are using 3750 switches as WAN router facing the WAN cloud. To configure QoS for its WAN port, should I use 'auto qos voip trust" or treat it like a router port and configure class-maps, policy-maps, and attact service-policy input or output?

Because switches have different queuing and dropping methods than routers, auto qos can generate QoS configs that are considered most appropriate for 3750 switches. However the switch functions as WAN router. Maybe it should be configured using router type of QoS with policy-maps and service-policy?
