View 7 Replies View RelatedNew to working with Wireless and the Cisco Meshing concept so have a few questions to ask.I currently have the majority of the mesh setup and configured. I have a setup with two RAPs with 9 MAPS connecting to each RAP.
First question is how many MAPS can connect to a RAP generally?Secondly how can I block other cisco AP's that are not in my mesh network from trying to connect to my AP's
The below is constantly hammering the logs for 6 devices that are Cisco close to my mesh that are not mine.

Sat Nov 12 23:31:53 2011
Mesh child node '58:35:d9:aa:db:4f' has changed its parent to mesh node '88:f0:77:b7:c6:e0' from mesh node '88:f0:77:b7:c6:c0'.
Mesh Node '58:35:d9:aa:db:4f' failed to join controller, MAC address not in MAC filter list.
I have only added the MAC addresses of my AP's in to my AP Policy under security. Would these other AP's affect the mesh in any way? What I am seeing is the AP's constantly changing the child to parent relationship. I have inherited this network and they have about 20 AP's all within a square mile which is absolutely overkill. Would this close proximity of AP's together be the cause for the constant child parent changes?
How close should I have RAP's together. The network was setup so two raps are about 20 metres apart and the AP's on one side connect to RAP1 and the other to RAP2?How do you deal with Radar? The install is pretty much next to an airfield with radar running and a few times I have seen all the AP's disconnect and change channels.
using a Cisco 5508 controller (code version 7.4.100.0) with an ACS appliance running version 4.1 or 4.2?I've found that the ACS constantly reports a 'Bad request from NAS' (Invalid message authenticator in EAP request). message. This usually indicates a mismatched shared secret but this isn't the case. The controller works fine opposite a Microsoft NPS Radius Server.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know that the recommendation from Cisco for the mobility anchor feature to work well is to use the same IOS version on the anchor WLC and local WLC controller. Now I´ll install on a new site a 5508 local WLC with a newer IOS version which is installed on the other controllers ( Guest and local ). Later I´ve planned to update also the other controllers to the same IOS version. Now my question is, must I upgrade all other controller at the same time ?

We have Cisco 4402 Wireless Lan Controller with Software Version 3.2.171.6 and we want to upgrade it to latest version.
What is the latest version to upgrade the WLC?
Also since WLC is running on very lower version is it possible to upgrade to the latest version directly or we have to move it step by step to upgrade this to latest version?
We are looking to upgrade our 5508 wireless controller from 7.0.98.0 to 7.0.220.0. Reason being, we have experienced a lot of access points disassociating from the controller as well as client authentication issues. Upgraded from 7.0.98.0 to 7.0.220.0 and any issues during the upgrade or after the upgrade?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 which had c1240-k9w8-mx.124-21a.JA loaded, I followed the link below and upgraded with Cisco’s upgrade tool to c1240-rcvk9w8-mx with no problems at all, after the upgrade I could then see the LWAP on the 4402 controller and had it working a treat. Now the problems begin, I brought it into the office where we have 5508 controllers, plug in the LWAP into our management switch and boot it up I get an IP assigned from the DHCP server and the AP goes into discovery mode but never finds the controller.I have logged the boot process but this does not give much away, our other 1100 series AP’s boot fine,

And that is where she sits and does nothing more, I have noticed the DNS problems but the other 1100 series LWAP’s boot up after show that same issue.
I have a 5508 wireless controller running version 6.0.199.4 (the image installed when the device was shipped) and I am trying to install by tftp version 7.3.112.0
The issue is when using tftpd32 gets to 82% transfered then fails with the error "% Error: Code file transfer failed - Error while writing output file"
I have a 5508 controller, just upgraded from 6.0.182 to 7.0.98.0. Also LAG was switched off directly after upgrade.
Since the upgrade none of the 1142 LAPs are associating with the controller. I can see they are being issued IPs by the internal DHCP but putting a console cable and watching I am getting:
Not in Bound state.
*May 4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip !!
*May 4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-5-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
One Ap prior to the upgrade was on a static IP and that connected through without any problem, (it was an 1131 though, but I dont think that is the issue...)
I will install next week at a customers side a new Pair of 5508 Controller. They have at the moment one old 4404 with about 70 APs.So the bought the new 5508 with HA Pair. For the HA i will need 7.3 i read in the High Availability (AP SSO) Deployment Guide. There are now two 7.3 Versions, or i can choose the new 7.4 Version.
AIR-CT5500-K9-7-3-101-0.aes
AIR-CT5500-K9-7-3-112-0.aes
AIR-CT5500-K9-7-4-100-0.aes
So what software version will be the best at the moment?I will install also a Cisco Prime Infrastructure on a ESX host. For the 7.3 in can use the 1.2 , but for the 7.4 i must take the 1.3.
I'm about to upgrade a 5508 controller so I can do the pre-download to the access points, but in every doc I find, it says to disable the WLAN's before upgrading. This makes no sense. I'm just moving code over, why do I have to disrupt my wireless network in order to move code?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC. However, would the following scenario be supported? I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs. I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.

We plan to upgrade the 5508 to 7.3.112.0 and the 4400 is already 7.0.116.0. Will there be any issue if the anchor controller is not the same code as the foreign controller? Do I also have to upgrade the acnhor controller to 7.0.240.0?

I have 2x WLC 5508 running version 7.2. 1st one is setup and running. My questions is: If I want to setup Active-Passive redundancy, do I need to manually setup the 2nd one exactly as the 1st one and put them in the same group? Or is it a way to copy all of the configs I made on the 1st one over to the 2nd one?

WLC Version 7.4.100.0 will need Prime Infrastructure Version 1.3 to be managed, Version 1.3 is not yet available to download at this point of time

My understanding is that for fully WLC 5508 integration with ISE 1.1.2, it needs Version 7.2.103.0. Question is if customer has 5508 with either 7.0.230 or 7.0.98, and ISE 1.1.2, can AAA part work? what part will not work, any potential issue if they don't upgrade 5508 to 7.2.103?

Besides, if we change them to autonomous mode, can Prime Infrastructure manage/monitor these APs?

I have a 5508 controller at our headquarters and am installing some 3502 AP's at a remote branch. Unfortunatly, the remote branch has a different Vlan setup for some reason and the vlan that is used for the WLC (90) is designated for telephony at this branch. Can I put the AP's on a different VLAN (10) without having any issues? I will still use DHCP option 43 to point them back to the controller. Below are the configs for the WLC interfaces and what I am proposing for the AP interfaces:
