I am using WLC 5508 version 7.0 facing issue while enabling global multicast mode .
client machine stops DNS resolution after some time once we enable global multicast mode on WLC .websites are opening with IPs but not with DNS names .
DNS resolution starts working immediately after disabling multicast mode on wlc .
Working with wired Cisco equipment for many years, but trying to configure an integrated wireless AP for the first time.
I have a Cisco 891w router with the following software (main and integrated AP801 wireless AP):
1. Cisco IOS Software, C890 Software (C890-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.4(22)YB
License Level: advipservices
2. Cisco IOS Software, AP801 Software (AP801-RCVK9W8-M), Version 12.4(21a)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Opening a connection to integrated AP801 wireless device for performing wireless configuration tasks, the connection is established OK, authentication is passed OK using credentials from main configuration file, gaining level 15 privileges with enable command, but after that... no way to enter "Global Configuration mode" because there are no "configure" family commands present!!! Simply can't say "Conf t" because there is no such command!
I bought a Cisco Wireless AIR-CAP2602i-E-K9 and have some practice on Cisco routers, but can not log in "Global Configuration Mode", not existe the command "Configure". How active configuration?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWe have a pair of 4500s set up as HRSP pair. We have many VLANs set up. In one of the VLANs is a working Red Hat cluster which uses multicast for its heartbeats. The VLAN interface on each switch has ip pim sparse-dense-mode enabled on it. Multicast routing is not enabled.We now need to be able to send multicasts across a few VLAN to allow apple TV to work with our WLC and lightweight access points.
I assume I can just turn on multicast routing and enable ip pim sparse-dense-mode on the VLANs I need.Is this the case and will it have any effect on my current multicast traffic?
I'm seeing the alert "CPU Receive Multicast Queue is full on Controller" on the WCS from one of my controllers. This is during peak hours and on a pretty busy WLC. I can't find any related lines in the logfiles. I'm currently running software version 7.0.220.0 on a WISMs.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI used the wlc 5508 GUI to enable multicast in the CONTROLLER section, AP Multicast mode "Multicast" with a group address 239.1.1.1. Also in the "Multicast" section enabled Global Multicast Mode and IGMP Snooping.
My wired network is using a bsr and pim sparse-mode all around. My wlc is connected to a core 6513 L3 switch and on a neighbor L3 switch I can see a shared tree mroute entry and a source based entry for the wlc multicast group I created,
sh ip mroute
( *, 239.1.1.1 )
( 192.168.0.1, 239.1.1.1 )
I can't ping 239.1.1.1 though from anywhere, even the wlc's gui using the ping tool.I can do an ip igmp join on a loopback and ping from a neighbor device and get a reply.
In the monitor multicast section of the gui I can see some Layer2 MGID entries and one in the Layer3 MGID section but not for the 239.1.1.1 address.How do I verify my multicast over wireless setup is working correctly?
is it possible to multicast between 2 different SSID's that are associated to 2 different VLAN's?

I rebuilt my lab controller and moved the management interface to a new subnet. Somehow, the AP Multicase Mode IP under the General Settings was removed. Afterwards, my AP's radios would reset every 2-3 minutes. After comparing my lab config to production, I noticed the IP was missing from that field. Setting the Multicast IP to 239.232.78.1 fixed the issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was using WAP54G in our company in AP client mode to support "wired" connection to far workstation being part of Windows Domain (it needed network connection before logging to windows). It was working fine for a year, secured with WPA. this AP client was wirelessly connected to another WAP54G unit running regular AP mode.
Today was changing configuration on "AP client" , wanted to cvheck if WPA2 is supported while in AP client mode. well it wasn't, so ireverted the config back to what it was. after power cycle device stays in "bricked mode".
it doesn't boot up, LAN port inactive (like a cable unplugged), no WiFi, only 2 LEDs are lit permamently red POWER and yellow LINK. green ACT is dead. resetting is no luck, tried resetting it multiple times holding it with device powered on or off, tried 30/30/30 method, no luck.
finally took it apart (was out of warranty anyways) and shorted pin 16 (A18) on flash chip (Spansion) while powering up and it worked to the point when LAN interface becomes operational with 192.168.1.245 IP and i get ping response.
I thought that's it, would just re-load firware (original latest 3.04.03) and done. i was wrong. device takes fw via tftp, but immediately after tha it stops responding, green ACT never comes back online, reset still do not work. after power cycle LAN port is dead (as well as device) again. what has happened to it?
I think I have a good handle on PIM dense mode, but some of the output.I think Im actually just overthinking this but I want to validate. When I look at the output of a 'show ip mroute' what does the bolded line. [code] From what I understand, packets that arrive at the RPF interface are flooded through all other interfaces. But what does it mean when it says 'Prune' in that bolded line? Does that mean that the router is sending a prune out of that interface?

View 3 Replies View Related i have an issue with a 2106 WLC. We have a 44xx series WLC and had an issue with Apple devices: they could not print from wireless. The workaround in the 44xx series WLC was that we have enabled Unicast in the Access Point Multicast mode (configued under Controller/General).
The issue now is that the 2106 wlc does not have unicast in AP multicast mode.
New to working with Wireless and the Cisco Meshing concept so have a few questions to ask.I currently have the majority of the mesh setup and configured. I have a setup with two RAPs with 9 MAPS connecting to each RAP.
First question is how many MAPS can connect to a RAP generally?Secondly how can I block other cisco AP's that are not in my mesh network from trying to connect to my AP's
The below is constantly hammering the logs for 6 devices that are Cisco close to my mesh that are not mine.

Mesh Node '58:35:d9:aa:db:4f' failed to join controller, MAC address not in MAC filter list.
I have only added the MAC addresses of my AP's in to my AP Policy under security. Would these other AP's affect the mesh in any way?What I am seeing is the AP's constantly changing the child to parent relationship. I have inherited this network and they have about 20 AP's all within a square mile which is absolutely overkill. Would this close proximity of AP's together be the cause for the constant child parent changes?
How close should I have RAP's together. The network was setup so two raps are about 20 metres apart and the AP's on one side connect to RAP1 and the other to RAP2?How do you deal with Radar? The install is pretty much next to an airfield with radar running and a few times I have seen all the AP's disconnect and change channels.
My understanding is that for fully WLC 5508 integration with ISE 1.1.2, it needs Version 7.2.103.0. Question is if customer has 5508 with either 7.0.230 or 7.0.98, and ISE 1.1.2, can AAA part work? what part will not work, any potential issue if they don't upgrade 5508 to 7.2.103?

This usually indicates a mismatched shared secret but this isn't the case.The controller works fine opposite a Microsoft NPS Radius Server.

Now I´ll install on a new site a 5508 local WLC with a newer IOS version which is installed on the other controllers ( Guest and local ). I attempted to measure the signal quality between the APs by setting one device to repeater mode while all others are in root mode. Then, I execute the following command: dot11 Dot11Radio 0 antenna-alignment
1. The output of "show dot11 antenna-alignment" is incorrect, the % value represents the signal strength in dBm without the - (minus). E.g. "-25 dBm" is displayed as "Signal 25% 0 dBm".Now, I know that is only a display error but still this is not clean. Is this a known issue?
2. Why are the measured signal strength values not displayed on the SSH console during the antenna-alignment test? Is it obligatory to use the console to see these values? Or is it also a known bug which might be fixed in later firmware versions?
A multisite network is currently supporting muticast using PIM dense mode, which is enabled on router/switch LAN and WAN interfaces across all locations. I am about to introduce Nexus switches to the main LAN. How can I make dense and sparse mode coexist to ensure flow of muticast traffic between devices supporting and dense and sparse mode? Eventually, I want to transition to the sparse mode; however, it has to be done gradually, even within a single site. The leacy equipment includes Cat 3750 and 4500s.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to see an error creep up that I havn't seen since 2003/2004 on my brand new 5508 controllers. I'm recieving the following from my WCS: Receive Multicast Queue is full on Controller and then on the controller itself RX Multicast Queue Full. I understand this used to be due to a large influx of ARP requests or CDP packets on older controllers but, this was supposed to be fixed in an update many years ago.
Has seen this on their 5508's. These were advertised as having the horsepower to handle our user loads which arn't really that high at 300 users at any given time max.
is there a support of 1+1 mode (HA mode) at 5508 Controller? If yes Is there a HA bundle or do we have to order two identical 5508 controller ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having an issue with random AP3602I's in HREAP mode disassociating from the 5508 controller. These AP's are in remote offices with 70Mb WAN back to the controller. Randomly one or two AP's disassociate from the controller and I have to bounce the switchport to bring them back online. The WLC is running 7.2. Again this only occurs to one or two AP's not all of the AP's.
