I recently added a post lately referring to drawing a topology of a large network with a high number of hosts. Now with project itself, I'm designing a network for a large organisation with a different number of hosts at each location. These are, 500,18,52,236 and 12. The location with 500 hosts is the head office, to which every other branch has a wide area network connection through a serial link. How many subnets would I require? I wrote down subnet details, but only for 5 subnets, a subnet for each location. Is that all I need? Or do the WAN connections count as subnets

clients ---asa--3750--cisco ace--- servers behind vip
|
visa card transaction servers
I am able to setup a vip on ace using routing mode on ACE,as the servers need to see the client ip ,so we are not performing SNAT,this part is working fine.
when a request comes from the client ,it goes to the vip and to one of the backend servers ,and the request will be forwaded back to the ace ,as the default gateway on the servers is pointing to the server vlan on ace.
but if the transaction from the servers need to go to the visa card transaction servers ,how can we acheive this ,and after fetching the data from visa servers, does the reply will be fwd to the ACE or ASAs directly.

just have few questions about designing WLC 5508
The scenario is that currently one of the client has a firewall Tie ring T1 internet facing and T2 internal which has multiple DMZ connected.
T2 firewall has a DMZ switch connected which has a router which connects to MPLS cloud to different site across the country. (around 10 sites) all static routing.
Now the client is thinking to deploy wireless at all 10 sites using H-REAP. The issue is that client has only one WLC and they are not willing to buy other as i was thinking to deploy two WLC one for corporate and one for guest users. (one in internal network and on in DMZ)
Now my question is as follow.
1- Keeping in mind that there is only one WLC where should i physically put it?
2- How guest users will work ? How the authentication will be done?
3-There are 8 SFP ports in WLC how physical topology will look like?
4-How many Vlans i have to make for wirless users will that be 10? (1 at each site) ?
my last question is that how these ports work on WLC are they just like switch e.g one port can be assigned to different vlan....just confuse about interfaces and vlans on WLC (interfaces concept)

I have an XP machine that is unable to see any other computer on the network. I disabled the firewall and I can ping any device on the network with no issue. I have set several other computers to the same workgroup which is mshome. Lastly I have read several other post and tried the ideas there including this one...Finally, let's do the stack repair.TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.
Start, ]R[/B]un, CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:
Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot the machine. That did not seem to work. As I am still in the same situation.
another note. This is the only XP on the network. Everyone else is Windows 7. Also on a side note, the reason I am doing this is to install a printer on this one and allow the other computers to print from it and seeing folders is good also.
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Upstairs
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

I have a wireless router which works just fine. I can connect my laptop as well as my iPad to it. I also have a hard wire connection that goes to my computer which works just fine. how can I get my computer to see the other computers in the network? They just don't show up even though I have shared enabled. There is only one router, so I thought it might be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be.

I have two identical computers on the same home network (and a couple of others too). My problem is the even though they are connected to the same wireless router and can each see the internet and the printer that online they cannot see each other. When I ping one from the other I get no response though they both receive responses from the router. I can't transfer files etc. It works a while ago but can't seem to get them connected again.

My home network was made up of a desktop running windows XP home (wired) and a desktop also running XP (wireless). I have recently added a desktop running Windows 7 (wireless) to the system. When I turn on the Windows 7 machine, it sees the other two machines and I use the files from them easily. But after the new machine has been on awhile, it does not see the other computers. (I can, however, still access the shared files on it (the Windows 7 machine) from the other desktop (haven't checked the laptop). If I power down the Windows 7 and then turn it back on, the other machines show up immediately. I've got them all named to the same workgroup and in the network settings in the control panel, I think that it is set to discover the network.

How would I force lag to certain computer(s) on the network? Even better would be to only make certain processes lag. Would closing a port completely restricted traffic through it? How about limiting it? I have DD-WRT firmware installed on my Linksys router. This is my network that I pay for, so i am allowed to do it.I could possibly limit a port that online games would use specifically, or just set a low bandwidth cap for the IP the computer is on?

Am about to set up my new DIR-655. I noticed that the routers default IP is 192.168.0.1 The router it replaces used 192.168.1.1Since I have several devises on the network with fixed IPs 192.168.1.x (printer and Stora) and since I do not want to change them, can I leave them as is?Also, last time I changed the IPs that the router hands out, many computer could no longer see each other on the network, due to firewall issues. So, can I set the router to use a range like 192.168.1.xx even though the routers address is not changed? orshould I just change the router IP to 192.168.1.1 and change the range. Also do I need to change the mask if I do any of this?

1) We have a server running active domain, and it also assign the IP address to domain users.
2) All the server, computers are connected to Cisco ASA5505 for the network.
Currently our VPNs were set up to use DHCP and local IP pools. It seems that I can get into the network, however the IP address the VPN gets was from the internal pool not From SERVER. As a result, the VPN is connected, by VPN is not able to ping to the router or the server. Is there anyway, I can configure the router treats VPN as the physical port. then the active domain server can assign the IP address to VPN.

I seem to have a problem with my new PC build... it's getting connected to the internet, but it isn't finding the network everything else is using, which has left me more than a bit confused. It seems as though my new PC is on a network all its own (simply called "Network"). Meanwhile, my old machine and my housemate's machine (both running Win7 x64), as well as my Playstation 3, are all connected to the main network, which we named "Ostia."
The router is a Netgear WNR2000v2. It's wireless (though all three desktops and the PS3 are all wired), and we've had no problems connecting anything in the past. This is the only machine that can't get access. I've had friends come over with laptops to play games on several occasions and they've always been able to wirelessly connect to my network, or plug in a wired connection and find it as well. But my new PC doesn't see "Ostia." I can go to Control Panel Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center and click "see full map," and that shows me the full network (Internet, the router, and everything connected to said router). But for whatever reason, I can't seem to get my new machine into the Ostia network.
I've had zero problems with the internet on my new machine otherwise. It connects fine in IE9, Firefox, and Chrome. In Battlefield 3 and other online games, this machine is an absolute terminator, running every game I throw at it on max settings without dropping below 60-70 FPS with no lag of any sort. The only reason this is annoying is because I can't move shared files to and from this machine with the other two PCs.

How do I fix my network so that my Windows 7 and XP computers automatically detect each other on the network. Right now, they cannot browse each other by computer name, instead I have to type their IP addresses (for example: \192.168.2.5) in the windows explorer address bar, and then I can browse to their shared folders. And under "Network" (in Windows Explorer) each computer only displays itself, and not the other (unless I have already typed in the other's IP address, in which case it displays the other computer as the IP address).
